OCCITANIA JOINS TRIER AXIS

In what can only be described as the ultimate slap in the face, Occitania has proceeded to join the Trier Concord, an alliance which is wholly opposed to Serenierre. The reaction in Villesen has been that of shock and immense displeasure. The Government announced that in an emergency cabinet session, Madame Premier announced that the Republique Populaire would not be going forward with plans to invest 12.5 billion livres in the Occitanian economy and further that the Central Bank has begun offloading 65% of Occitanian Government bonds and securities held by it - and in exchange would be shoring up the domestic gold reserve to combat any market volatility. The economic impact of such a sudden move by the Serenien Government remains to be seen. However, the minds in the Commissariat for Economic Affairs seem to be moving in a manner to take a bite out of the Occitanian economy.

Others still, have called for an immediate breaking of diplomatic ties with all the members of the Trier Concord and for Serenierre to seal its border with the heretical Cathar kingdom to the south. Premier Martinique has stated that through the corruption of Trier, the just cause of a neutral Retalian Sea would be dashed. The Premier further stated in her speech that if the situation in the region was allowed to be dictated to by the Trier Concord, a day will come where the peace of the land was indeed to be in danger. However, the Government has stated that diplomatic ties remain unchanged at the moment, however, the status of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness between Occitania and Serenierre is most probably in its terminal phase, according to sources in Villesen.

The Trier Concord will do everything it can to make the impact of the Serenien measures against Occitania remain limited. Eiffelland will do everything it can to keep the Retalian Sea open for commercial and recreational vessels. However, please be adviced that Eiffelland will stand for its obligations dictated by treaties.

As always the People's Republic of Serenierre can count on the Kadikistani Union. It is regrettable that the Trier Concordat has once again shown themselves to be completely unreliable international partners. Backchannel dealings, betraying existing diplomatic friendships was meant to keep the international community from finding out about the secret meetings that preceded Occitania's membership. The sudden and unexpected membership of Occitania and the secrecy surrounding it indicates nothing less than a diplomatic assault. Occitania's membership also places the Trier Concordat on both sides of the Serenierrese border, a clear act of aggression.

The Grand Duchy of Retalia wishes to make the following clear to the People's Republic of Serenierre.

Point one. That the Grand Duchy of Retalia has no territorial, economic or diplomatic designs on Serenierre, in whole or in part.

Point two. That the Grand Duchy of Retalia, despite continued provocations by the People's Republic of Serenirre, does not build her foreign policies around a desire to damage or undermine Serenierre.

Point three. That it is the People's Republic of Serenierre which elevated hostility and opposition to Retalia into a cornerstone of her foreign diplomatic policy and guided all her foreign diplomatic relations over the past period with the sole goal of undermining Retalia.

The Grand Duchy of Retalia continues to be ready to talk and discuss mutually agreeable understandings with the People's Republic of Serenierre. However, it is clearly, factually and without any semblance of a doubt the hostile foreign policy of the People's Republic of Serenierre that is the blocking point which prevents this from proceeding.

We shall be patiently waiting for a day when Villesen starts talking the language of peace, rather than hostility.

SERENIEN-OCCITANIAN TREATY SUSPENDED!

The Commissariat of People's Deputies has voted unanimously to suspend and withdraw from the Treaty of Good Neighbourliness that had been signed with the Kingdom of Occitania in the earlier half of the year. The Commissariat which serves as the supreme legislative body in the Republique Populaire passed an additional motion in which it criticized the conduct of the Trier Government and the hostile expansion of the nefarious Trier Concord. The Commissariat further called on the Politburo to act decisively in ensuring that Serenierre and the ideological sanctity of Marxist Serazinism remained unscathed in these dangerous times as reactionary vultures circle around the Motherland.

Premier Martinique, upon addressing the People's Deputies at the Commissariat, said that Villesen was astonished at the ease with which the Occitanians have chosen to adopt a foreign policy which was so diametrically opposed to the true spirit of the Treaty signed between Villesen and Marsilia. She said that the Trier Concord was an offensive military alliance which sought to enforce the illegitimate claims of the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein-cum-Retalia over the Retalian Sea by use of force, to the detriment of nations such as Serenierre and Carinthia-Harkany. In the past, she said, Occitania too was of the view that the claims pursued by Altburg were unjust and illegal, but it seemed that reactionaries in Marsilia have lost all sense.

The Premier went on to outline that if any Germanic military forces were to enter or be deployed to Occitania, as a result of its membership in the Trier Concord, the Republique Populaire would view it as a direct threat to its territorial integrity and would respond in the appropriate manner. Members from the hard-line minority Renaudiere Bloc were enthusiastically heard proclaiming that if Trier continues to behave in the manner that it has, there was every motivation for Villesen to throw its full military and political weight into an official membership bid of the Ruriksgrad Pact. Other Blocs within the Communist Party have, however, been more restrained and have urged the Government to move with tact so as to not jeopardize the important progress made in Burgo-Serenien bilateral relations in recent years.

It is to be noted that the Government of Bourgogne has remained silent on the irresponsible actions of their friends in Trier, which was also noted on the floor of the Commissariat. When questioned, Premier Martinique, however, believed that enough maturity reigned in Chagny for them to realise that to throw their lot in with the Germanic reactionary states was not in their larger interest. The Premier added that unlike Occitania, the Burgundians have "played fair and we have always responded in kind".

We can only repeat what the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Retalia said. Furthermore, we want to make clear that Occitania is an independent country; therefore, it can freely choose whom to ally with. It is up to the government of Occitania to decide which foreign military troops it will allow in its country, not up to the government of Serenierre.
From our point of view, Serenierre and the Rurikgrad Pact can always contact us to discuss matters out.

There is a mistake in the last news headlines. We did not threaten to send troops to Occitania. What we will do, however, is defending Occitania in case of an invasion. In any case, the recent behaviour of Serenierre on the international stage clearly shows why Occitania needs allies.

THE PREMIER'S SPEECH​

Chairman Leopold Millerand: The People's Deputies welcome Premier Elisabeth Martinique to the floor.

Premier Elisabeth Martinique: Mr. Chairman, I welcome the opportunity to address the People's Deputies. As the new year arrives, the Republique Populaire stands much safer than it did this time the year before. The Grand Duchy of Retalia, once threatening us with invasion and with brutal rhetoric, now stands fallen and broken, a mere province in the effete Trier regime. Occitania, once mighty and proud, stands divided and a mighty crack having split the Crown off the head of the fallen King. The Trier Concord, an alliance which once stood to proclaim itself as a leader for monarchism has bent its knee to the will of Serazinism. The previous year has significantly strengthened the cause of Serazinism and proletarian rights across the Gallian continent.

But, we must at this moment of great victory for Serazinism and for Serenierre, must remember the profound misery that was wrought on Gallia by the missteps of the fallen Trier Concord. The many innocent civilians who have lost their lives and the brave men and women of the Serenien military. For them we are silent in respect. [...]

And yet, with great victory, we must also face the risk of comfort in complacency. Often enough, nations have found themselves after defeating mighty titans in a state of calm which renders them unable to contend with the new fight that lurks off on the horizon. And to ensure that our nation remains strong in the face of any opposition or threat we must remain vigilant!

As my Government looks to establish a strong and prosperous State in liberated Occitania, the first step for which has been the passage of the Basic Law and the re-constitution of the Aristocracy under the 2019 Regulations, we are mindful of the fact that the journey ahead is marked by considerable trials, both, for us and for the people of the Protectorate of Occitania. But we assure them that we shall stand in solidarity with them as we have with the other liberated peoples of Gallia, such as Borovanger, which stands as a shining beacon of what Villesen's protective sphere can do for people's oppressed under the yolk of ideological fanatics.

And as we move forward, we must remain mindful of our bilateral ties across our wider neighbourhood. While apprehensions may prevail as a result of recent history, I believe that it is absolutely of utmost important to reinforce my Government's commitment to the ideals of diplomacy and partnerships. It is my fervent belief that the call to arms is an abhorrent one, reserved only for the very worst situation where all diplomatic means have broken down. And Serenierre is committed to peace in all its forms.

During the course of war, there was some disquiet expressed about certain actions on part of Serenierre, however, I must state that not enough recognition exists of the war crimes which were perpetuated by the Kingdom of Occitania, which used child soldiers and militarized the civilian population in breach of all modern understandings of human rights. This august chamber has supported several resolutions against the fallen Kingdom's actions and I believe that other houses of legislature across the world should take note of the same excesses.

However, now, as peace has come thanks to the Camp Hill Accords, I look forward to dedicating our efforts on helping the Military Government and the nascent Protectorate's administrative set up establish a fully functional state which can stand strong, free of influence from the Trier alliance. To that effect, the nation has been mobilized to volunteer donations and labour unions have been deployed to the Occitanian territories to assist in the reconstruction efforts. The sooner we bring normalcy to the people of liberated Occitania, the easier it shall be for the Protectorate to take hold.

Over the course of the next legislative year, I believe it would be essential that my Government shall focus on three primary responsibilities: first, shoring up the economy and defensive capabilities of Serenierre to match the role that we find ourselves in with respect to Gallia; second, build bridges across the world with nations and establish strong friendships; and third, to get the Protectorate of Occitania standing strong on its feet.

I now look to my comrade commissars and call on them to engage with our proposals and for the new session of the Commissariat to commence the legislative business of the year.

The Committee has commenced discussions to revitalize the National Military Policy and shall be discussing the strategic scope of the Eiffellander military presence in the Retalian Sea. The Committee has condemned the Eiffellander annexation of Retalian islands through the illegal and forced annexation of the erstwhile Grand Duchy of Retalia. The Committee is focused on enhancing the national military after the glorious military victory over the Trier Concord and to effectively meet the challenges facing the country in the new strategic equation.
