Pelasgian Empire
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Official Communiqué

Propontis, 12 January 2020
Public Statement

To whom it may concern,

Pelasgia abides by the internationally recognised rules of the customary and conventional international law of the sea in all matters, including maritime claims. As long as Serenierre's maritime claims obey these rules, there is no reason for conflict; however, any attempts to breach these norms for short-sighted posturing or misguided gains will be summarily thwarted. The only "problematic" aspect of this discussion is the Chief Secretary's attitude.

Signed and sealed,

Nikolaos Chrysopoulos
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Government of Pelasgia

Confederation of Montedoro
The Confederation of Montedoro remains a responsible member of the international community, respecting all the norms of international conventions. However, the ad-hoc manner in which the Pelasgian Government has acted in the past, in relation to legitimate concerns from the Montedoran peoples over the issue of exclusive economic zones. We need assurances that the Pelasgian Empire is undertaking a fair and reasonable approach to its maritime claims.

To the attention of the Serenêr Foreign Office

The Furiulian Government is confident that the Serenêr accusations against Pelasgia are made in good faith, nevertheless we advise the Gallian partner not to use this perceived concern as grounds for an expansion of interest in the Claret sea.
The friendly relations between the now Pelasgian Empire and the Grand Duchy of Furlanìe arise from our shared history, but also on the continued peaceful cooperation in the sea region.
The Grand Duchy of Furlanìe will be sure to monitor the situation closely in order to protect its strategic interests.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Official Communiqué

Propontis, 14 January 2020
Public Statement

To whom it may concern,

We challenge the Confederation of Montedoro to provide a single example of our so-called "ad hoc" approach its "legitimate concerns". We are obliged to offer no assurances given that, in so far as we know, there is no dispute whatsoever between our Empire and the Confederation. Pelasgia's maritime claims are always fair and reasonable, being founded in international law. Once more, we ask that the Confederation's administration provides us with a concrete example to the contrary.

The People's Republic of Serenierre is not responsible for the comments of the Confederation of Montedoro. While the Villesen Government acknowledges the close relationship between it and the Confederal Government, on account of the shared history, the Government of Serenierre is not sure what the Government of Furlanie is referring to. The official position of the People's Republic is that we have no position on the issue.

Confederation of Montedoro
The Confederation of Montedoro has remained steadfast a guardian of its waterways. It is curious that the Pelasgian Government acts coy about its undeclared maritime claims. While speaking in the language of international laws and conventions, it has yet to announce even a single instance of a formal map of its claimed waters. Additionally, we reiterate, our concern is premised on the exclusive economic waters and not of territorial waters.

Public Statement

To whom it may concern,

We would like the Confederation's authorities to enlighten us as to how we can simultaneously have claims and not have declared them. Pelasgia follows the international customary law of the sea with respect to its exclusive economic area: 200 nautical miles from our shores. Being a lawyer by trade, I can refer my counterpart from Montedoro to some rather excellent books on the topic, such as Professor Antonios Kakrides' Foundations of International Maritime Law, 9th ed. (Propontis, 2018: Sphoena Publishing S.A.), if he or she wishes to know more. The 2nd edition served me well in my Admiralty Law course over two decades ago and I would highly recommend it.

The Confederation of Montedoro can find our maps of claims on the Foreign Ministry's website: . You will no doubt find that our baselines match the 200 nmi rule I previously mentioned. Unless the nameless proclamator from Montedoro's Government has anything of substance to add to this discussion, we will not be wasting any more of our time on it, though we will be noting the attitude of Montedoro's authorities for future discussions. Indeed, even Montedoro's own protecting power, the People's Republic of Serenierre, has seen fit to disengage from this farce.

We would like to stress that it is also our experience that the Pelasgian Empire has always abided by international customary law regarding the definition of its exclusive economic zone in the Claret Sea. It puzzles us a bit that the government of Montedoro sees a reason for dispute about the definition of the exclusive economic zones in the Claret Sea.

We want to inform the government of Serenierre that, apart from the copyright infringements committed by Folxmashin, we have found severe quality issues in the Folxmashin cars which in themselves, without taking the copyright infringements into account, would be a reason to ban them from the roads of Eiffelland-Retalia. In the few months that the country exists, Polesia has turned copyright infringements into a tradition, but quality is something it has failed to copy up to now. We recommend that Serenierre bans the Folxmashin cars from its streets, and would also like to inform ourselves regarding the possibilities to file complaints against Folxmashin for copyright infringements in Serenierre.

His Majesty King Albrecht thanks for the honorary doctorate of the Université de Villesen bestowed on him. We would like to start communications with the University of Villesen.

Grand Duke Fiorbèrt de Salustri would be honoured to receive President Hortefeux in his diplomatic tour, to discuss about Gallian brotherhood, cultural and economic cooperation, and reflect over the recent worrying military movements in the neighbouring territory of Montedoro.

We are worried about the military build-up in Montedoro. Please note that the Claret Sea is the most important sea strait of Europe. It is essential that peace is maintained here, and that the balance of powers here is not disturbed.

[/div]Ruriksgrad is a threat to Gallia, says Martinique
Serenien Premier lashes out at Kadikistan, the Burgundian People's Republic, and Furlanie

CHRISTOPHE LAGARDE || Report

IN AN EXTRAORDINARY PLENIPOTENTIARY session of the highest body of the Communist Party of Serenierre, Premier Elisabeth Martinique has categorically stated that recent developments in Gallia were categorically unacceptable to the Republique Populaire. Speaking extemporaneously, Premier Martinique thundered in the hall of the legislature, "The devils of Leninovism are on the move and Gallia is falling. This is unacceptable. This ancient continent must not allow foreign masters set to desecrate its noble soil."

Premier Martinique in the Commissariat[/div] Continuing in her speech, Premier Martinique stated that the twin efforts of including the Burgundian People's Republic as a member of the Ruriksgrad Pact and the conclusion of a status-quo treaty with the Grand Duchy of Furlanie were tantamount to a "...slap on the face of Gallian integrity..." by the Ivar Regime. "We have for far too long not taken a firm stance against the evil of Leninovism, which is wholly against the very core of our Sérazinist ideology." Without addressing it directly, Premier Martinique implied that the actions of Kadikistan were a rebuke to the 1957 Treaty signed between Serenierre and the Kadikistani Union to ensure that no ideological incursion occurred in Gallia from Leninovist factions, as a result of the proxy war in Montedoro between the two communist countries, which eventually saw Villesen triumph over the Kadiki-backed insurgent in that country's civil strife of the 1950s. "
We must be firm. We must be clear. Kadikistan and its 'Ruriksgrad Pact' is a threat to this nation. It is a threat to this Party. It is a threat to the glory of the Sérazinist Revolution. I speak now to all Gallian nations... we must abandon our disagreements to face the incursion in our region of this vile and destructive ideology," Martinique continued. "The license to act with impunity in Gallia will be granted to Kadikistan and its puppets if us Gallian nations do not address this gross incursion into our continent." She announced that the diplomatic presence of Serenierre in Kadikistan would be downgraded and similar orders had been passed in relation to the Kadikistani diplomatic corps in Serenierre.

Premier Martinique, a proponent for Gallian unity, has also condemned the Grand Duchy of Furlanie for concluding a Status Quo Treaty with the Kadikistani Union. She announced: "Effective immediately, Serenierre shall withdraw all diplomatic personnel from Furlanie and expel all Furlanie citizens from Serenierre." The news is also likely to affect the flow of Serenien investment in Furlanie and impact that country's economy.

However, Premier Martinique's fury was reserved for the Burgundian People's Republic, "
The nation which we supported through war, through loans and grants, has stabbed us in the back. This proves to me one thing... the Burgundians are true enemies of this Serenien nation. Be they monarchist, republican, or marxist, their hatred and revulsion for us is embedded deep. We cannot trust them. We will not trust them. We will make sure they pay us back penny for penny, with all appropriate interest." As the Premier spoke, the Commissariat of War released a statement announcing that all military bases had been reconstituted and the old policy of a militarized frontier with Bourgogne would be re-instated in light of the BPR's membership of the Ruriksgrad Pact.

To add insult to injury, Premier Martinique also tabled a resolution in the Commissariat of People's Deputies seeking the cancellation of diplomatic recognition extended to the Burgundian People's Republic. It is to be noted, the Republique Populaire de Serenierre was the first country to recognise the BPR and this resolution marks a very sour end of the positive beginning of a new phase in Burgo-Serenien diplomacy.

Premier Martinique concluded her speech by saying: "The Serenien State has taken firm decisions. It has identified a position. It is now on the nations of Gallia to decide the future. Do they seek a Gallia dominated by the evils of Ivar? Or a Gallia united in strength and governed by respect of diversity among its nations and cooperation?"

First Montedoro and now this. For the second time in history our glorious All-Union was cowardly betrayed by the Villesen crypto-catholic regime. Their reasoning for doing so lies within the belief in their own fabricated perceptions of history. The All-Union never broke the agreements reached during the 1956 Pact of Steel. It was Serenierre who approached Crotobaltislavonia and Ostmark in clear violation of said agreements. From that moment on the All-Union has considered the Pact of Steel unilaterally broken by the People's Republic of Serenierre. Our own actions are the consequence your own treacherous ones.

Now Villesen cowards have once again taken a unilateral decision and blew up 70 years of close economic, scientific and even modest military co-operation along with mutual political tolerance. Hundreds of treaties broken without as much as a phone-call. The economic ramifications of these actions will have severe consequences for both the All-Union and Serenierre. These will be difficult to overcome for us, but at least in the short term nearly impossible for you. We find it difficult to understand what madness drove Martinique to curse her own people with such heavy consequences, likely stealing the future of an entire generation.

We have taken note of this act of aggression against the All-Union and the Rurikgrad Pact. We shall take the appropriate action.

The People's Republic of Serenierre has turned its back on its comrades-in-arms and world socialism, preferring instead to align itself with the feudal monarchies of Gallo-Germania in pursuit of domination over the Burgundian People's Republic. This act of betrayal will not be forgotten nor likely forgiven, especially with Serenierre's previous history of ideological sectarianism and backstabbing.

Serenierre
has always had a reputation as a.....smooth international operator. The Continental Empire had previously hoped that the Kadikistani Union would use its red sway for the betterment, peace, stability of Europe. It has sadly elected to do virtually the opposite.

I speak on behalf of the Emperatriz, a fellow female leader. After her initial shock, she applauds your move. God bless you. Viva Justosia.
