24M Brigades claim responsibility for the Bajorok embassy attack, police manhunt underway

Two employees of the Bajorok embassy to Petrovgrad are in critical condition following an RPG attack against the main embassy building two nights ago. The 24th of May Revolutionary Brigades, a notorious Serbovian left-wing terrorist group, claimed responsibility for the incident, stating that the attack had been motivated by the Bajorok police's heavy response to recent protests against the country's anti-abortion laws and their escalation into violence.

The embassy attack represents the most serious act of terrorism in the Greater Petrovgrad region since 2019, when two police officers were shot and killed by a 24M Brigades member in a targeted assassination. The perpetrator of that crime was eventually cornered and killed in a gunfight with police special forces after a large-scale manhunt. It is also the first time the 24M Brigades have targeted a foreign actor, as they have previously restricted their attacks to government or commercial targets and various right-wing organizations.

A joint press conference with Prime Minister Dejan Andelic and Interior Minister Matey Ivanovic took place today in Petrovgrad regarding the attack. Prime Minister Andelic expressed the sympathies of his administration and the Serbovian people to the people of Bajororzsag and to the families of those wounded in the attack, stating that "all possible measures would be exhausted to find and punish those responsible for this crime". Interior Minister Ivanovic updated the press on the progress of the investigation, which is being headed by the Federal Directorate of Internal Security.

According to Ivanovic, the RPG had been fired from the rooftop of a building under construction located 200 meters away from the embassy. Two men wearing work overalls were seen exiting the building after the blast and fleeing in a white Pobeda van, and investigators are urging the public to come forward with any details on the suspects or their escape vehicle. Thousands of policemen from local and federal agencies are currently involved in the manhunt for the suspects in the Greater Petrovgrad area.

Following the attack, the national terrorism threat level has been raised from "moderate" to "critical" - representing an increase to the highest threat level - and security measures increased around foreign representations in Petrovgrad. In addition, the police presence along main highways and in the public transportation system has been increased as the search for the suspects continues.

Serbovian political leaders divided on the continuing unrest in Bajororzsag

Political uproar continues in our neighbor state of Bajororzsag as protests against Prime Minister Janos Csonka's administration are starting to escalate into outbreaks of violence between protesters, counter-protesters and the Bajorok police forces. Though the original spark for the protests came from Csonka's abortion policy, they have now escalated into a general expression of discontent against the Bajorok government

Ripples from the protests are also being felt in Serbovia, especially among the Pannonian ethnic minority which has strong ties with ethnic cousins on the other side of the border, and the events have also been the subject of intense political debate in Serbovia. So far, the Nedic-Andelic administration and the ruling Party of National Renewal have made statements in support of the Csonka administration, condemning violence and calling for swift restoration of order in the country. The current Serbovian administration is on relatively cordial terms with Csonka's government, especially after the signing of the CSEAC Accords by both countries.

Several opposition leaders, on the other hand, have been critical of Csonka and in support of the protestors. The most notable of these has been Socialist Party chairwoman Jana Bukeljovic, who has been vocal in expressing her support for the protests. Today, Socialist representatives in Congress submitted a motion to condemn the actions of the Bajorok police and to demand the resignation of PM Csonka. However, the motion failed to attain support from representatives other than those of the Socialist and Solidarist parties, and some individual Pannonian minority representatives. The Liberal Party, headed by Petar Pavlovic, was more restrained in their statement, which called for cancellation of the new abortion law but refused to make statements on the protests themselves.

Among Serbovia's Pannonian minority, many of whom are staunchly Catholic, the events in Bajororzsag have been highly divisive. The Northern city of Santovo, often considered an informal cultural capital of the Serbovian Pannonians, has seen numerous demonstrations both for and against PM Csonka and his administration. Community leaders have warned that the turmoil might lead to a rift in the community, which so far has been reasonably unified and peaceful.

Meanwhile, women's rights groups and leftist organizations have announced that they would be holding anti-Csonka demonstrations in several Serbovian cities on Friday. The protesters are also calling for a change to Serbovia's abortion laws, which currently permit abortion only in the event of risk to the woman's life or health or if the pregnancy is the result of a rape. Counter-protests by conservative groups have been announced, and police forces are expected to be out in force to prevent any unrest from breaking out.

In addition, a sit-in protest by members of the Serbovian Women's League at the Bajorok embassy was moved out by police following the rocket attack two days ago, citing security concerns. The protesters have since relocated to a position outside of the Petrovgrad Central Railway Station. The Petrovgrad Police has announced a ban on any related demonstrations within a 300-meter radius of the embassy.

Two killed in attack against the Serbovian embassy to Propontis

While Serbovians are still reeling from the impact of last week's terrorist attack in Petrovgrad by Socialist terrorists, another attack has shocked the entire country, this time in Pelasgia against the Serbovian embassy to the country's capital of Propontis. Last thursday, terrorists armed with automatic weapons and rocket launchers attempted to storm the embassy grounds before being beaten back by responding Pelasgian special forces and the embassy's own contingent of security staff from the Serbovian Federal Police.

Two people were killed in the attack, a Pelasgian police sergeant who stood guard outside of the embassy at the time of the attack, and an embassy official who has been identified as one Jakov Marinkovic. Marinkovic, 33 years of age, worked as second press secretary at the embassy and was survived by a wife and two young children. In addition, eight Pelasgians and four Serbovians were wounded in the course of the attack. Two of the wounded Serbovian citizens were members of embassy security staff and two others were civilian employees. The wounded Serbovians have been repatriated and are receiving treatment at the Petrovgrad Central Military Hospital. Mr. Marinkovic is to be buried with military honors in his hometown of Jasikovo next Saturday.

Responsibility for the attack was claimed by a group calling itself the Revolutionary Struggle Brigades, and analysts speculate that the attack was inspired by the earlier 22M Brigades attack against the Bajorok embassy in Petrovgrad. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has increased the security level at Serbovian embassies and representations, including an additional deployment of federal policemen into designated at-risk locations. In addition, Serbovian authorities have forwarded an offer of assistance to the Pelasgian agencies investigating the attack.

Subsequent to the attack, Prime Minister Andelic promised a swift retaliation against the terrorists responsible for both of the recent attacks. In a press conference held at the Prime Minister's offices in Petrovgrad, Andelic said that "every stone would be turned" to punish those responsible. In addition, Andelic called for a nationwide campaign against political extremism and promised that the fight against terrorism and extremism would now become one of the key points in his campaign for this July's presidential elections. He is expected to go into further details on his plans tomorrow, when a major rally of his Party of National Renewal will be held at the Petrovgrad Convention Center.

Investigation of the earlier RPG attack against the Bajorok embassy in Petrovgrad is continuing. Authorities have been tight-lipped about the progress of their inquiries, and have refused to comment on rumors that several arrests have already been made. A residential building in the Tvrđava suburb of Petrovgrad was raided by police special forces yesterday, receiving widespread attention as pictures of the event spread to the social media. However, no comments have been given about the reason of the raid by the authorities.

Left-wing marches over the weekend met with heavy police presence

A series of protest marches organized by left-wing and feminist organizations against both the Serbovian abortion laws and the activities of the Bajorok government took place last Friday in several Serbovian cities. While the marches were eclipsed in both public interest and press attention by the violent events unfolding in Propontis, estimates of the attendees - including both protesters and counter-protesters - ranged in the tens of thousands.

The protests were organized under the banner of the newly founded Solidarity for Bajororzsag Movement, which includes the youth wings of both the Socialist Party and the Party of Democratic Solidarists as well as organizations such as the Serbovian Women's League, the National Civil Rights Union and several minor organizations. While the protests also aimed to call for reforms to Serbovia's own abortion laws, that issue was overshadowed by criticism of the current Bajorok government and the behavior of Bajorok policemen and right-wing groups against local protesters.

Counter-protests were organized by right-wing and Catholic groups, and the police were out in force to prevent any escalation of tensions into violence between the different protesting parties. In several cities, local police forces were assisted by personnel from the federal Special Mobile Units who endeavoured to prevent the protesting groups from coming into contact with each other.

For the most part, heavy police presence managed to ensure peace. However in Petrovgrad, where protests of 10000 protesters and 6000 counterprotesters took place, anarchists and reputed members of the Legion of St. Peter traded blows before their brawl was broken up by riot police using pepper spray and batons. The incident resulted in sixty arrests and charges for assaults and resisting law enforcement. Both groups accused each other of starting the violence, and the reason for the brawl was not immediately apparent.

In Yegra, the second largest city of Serbovia's Bajorok community, counter-protesters apparently representing a small group calling itself the All-Pannonian Nationalist Party threw stones at leftist protesters inflicting several injuries. Six people were arrested and are facing charges.

Two terrorists and a policemen killed, one arrested in a special forces raid at suspected Bajorok embassy attackers

Federal authorities have announced the apparent dismantlement of the terrorist cell believed to be responsible for the recent rocket attack against the Bajorok embassy in Petrovgrad. Two Bajorok employees of the embassy were wounded in the attack when a Pelasgian-made PKCh-7 RPG was fired at the embassy building in a nighttime attack. The infamous 24th of May Revolutionary Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack.

Tonight, heavily armed operators from the Federal Police's elite JSO unit raided a suspected safehouse of the involved 24M Brigades cell, a municipal residential building in the Smrekovo Jezero district of Petrovgrad. The descent of dozens of heavily armed officers into the housing projects attracted widespread public attention, and cell phone videos of the incident were readily available on social media. The JSO entered the target apartment using breaching charges and flash grenades to disorient the occupants.

According to the Federal Directorate of Internal Security, which conducted the investigation into the attack, the occupants had opened fire against the entry team with automatic weapons, prompting the team to return fire. Two of the terrorists were immediately killed, while a third one was taken into custody alive but heavily injured. The apartment and an associated basement storage unit were searched by investigators, who recovered automatic weapons, bombmaking materials and three RPGs similar to that used in the embassy attack.

Following the attack, Prime Minister Dejan Andelic went on air on NRK TV congratulating the special forces involved in the arrests. "We have delivered a strong message to any extremist forces that would attempt to upset the foundations of our democracy, and to use terror as a vehicle of politics", Andelic said, "Rest assured that Serbovia will continue to oppose these forces of terror with enduring vigilance". Andelic is expected to announce a new anti-terror platform as part of his Presidential campaign later this week.

Internal Security sources are not ruling out the involvement of additional terrorists in the attack, and Petrovgrad remains in a high state of alert. No details have been released on the identity of the arrested terrorist, who has been hospitalized under heavy police guard and has not been interrogated so far. If he'll survive his wounds, he will face charges for terrorism and acting as an accessory to the murder of a police officer, and could face the death penalty.

The killed JSO officer has not been named pending notification to his family members. Flags will be flown half-mast in all federal offices tomorrow in honor of his sacrifice.

Andelic names national security as main election theme, declares Plesic as successor as PM

Incumbent Prime Minister Dejan Andelic has held his first public election rally of his campaign in the upcoming presidential elections. A crowd of several thousand invitees, mostly national and regional activists of his Party of National Renewal but also major Serbovian and international press, gathered at the Petrovgrad Convention Center on Friday to take part in the event.

The most anticipated part of the event was Andelic's speech outlining his key themes for the commencing presidential campaign. While Andelic was expected to campaign on a pro-business, pro-CSEAC platform, national security has also been raised as a main election theme in apparent response to recent unrest at home and abroad. "Serbovians deserve safety above all. We will not tolerate terrorism on our home soil, and neither will we tolerate extremist groups of any kind which would use crime and chaos as tools of politics", Andelic declared and received a standing ovation from the gathered crowd.

Andelic made specific references to the recent attacks by left-wing terrorists, as well as growing instances of violent protest by both left and right-wing extremist groups. "Events such as those unfolding right now in our northern neighbor cannot be allowed to repeat themselves here", he affirmed in reference to the ongoing unrest in Bajororzsag. His platform of national security would include new legal devices to permit more effective intervention in the activities of extremist groups and in promotion of extremist and terrorist activities, as well as reforms made to federal security and law enforcement agencies. In addition, further resourcing would be given to the battle against home-grown organized crime syndicates.

While foreign policy was not intended to be a particular theme for the speech, reporters were eager to inquire about Andelic's stance to the ongoing international row between Bajororzsag and Remion over the status of the Bajoran Zaran community. In the post-speech press conference, Prime Minister Andelic reaffirmed Serbovia's support to the national sovereignty of Bajororzsag, and said that attempts by foreign governments to interfere in these developments would not be welcomed. Andelic refused to comment if he was referring specifically to Remion, which recently deployed military troops on its border with Bajororzsag.

Furthermore, Andelic has now officially designated current Foreign Minister Aleksandar Plesic, who was in attendance at the rally, as his successor to the role of PM should Andelic be elected as President in this summer's elections. Plesic's designation is thought to be a win for the more security-oriented and nationalist factions of the Party of National Renewal, as he is considered to be an informal leader of these groups.

News in brief

PETROVGRAD - The Federal Border Guard is ramping up security along the Bajorok-Serbovian border in response to continuing unrest in Serbovia's northern neighbor state. Recent weeks have seen an escalation of violence in the Zara region of Bajororzsag, leading to concerns that the general security situation in the country might be deteriorating and that the situation might also reflect on cross-border crime as Bajorok security resources are transferred to deal with internal unrest. In addition, unnamed sources within the Serbovian security services say that the authorities are preparing for a possible influx of refugees should the unrest escalate into inter-ethnic conflict.

Both the Border Guard and the Customs Service are deploying additional manpower into the border zone, ostensibly to detect possible attempts of smuggling which are feared to increase as organized crime groups attempt to take advantage of the instability along the border. In addition, personnel from the Federal Police and the Serbovian Army are being deployed in a support capacity. The Ministry of Defense has stated that the operation remains a law enforcement mission headed by the Border Guard, and that Army personnel would only be present to provide enhanced surveillance capabilities by sensor crews and UAV systems.

President Dejan Andelic, PM Plesic sworn in, a more proactive foreign policy promised

Dejan Andelic has taken his oath of office for his new role as Federal President, subsequent to his narrow victory in the presidential elections that were held over a month ago. President Andelic was officially sworn in today at the Federal Congress in front of a crowd of Congressmen and dignitaries including still-living former Presidents and Prime Ministers of the Federal State as well as foreign ambassadors to Serbovia.

The same event also saw the swearing in of Prime Minister Aleksandar Plesic and his cabinet of ministers. Plesic ascends to his post from his previous role as Foreign Minister and will be replaced by current Federal Congressman Milorad Milosevic. In addition, Interior Minister Matey Ivanovic will be retiring from his role due to health reasons and will be replaced by Milan Markovic. Markovic has previously served as the head of the Federal Directorate of Internal Security and is a veteran of Serbovian security services with a career dating back to the former Social-Nationalist government.

President Andelic made his first official address as President tonight, saying that he would fulfill his main election promise of creating a "safer, stabler Serbovia ruled by law and order for all Serbovians". The new administration faces the challenge of increased organized crime and public dissatisfaction related to alleged corruption in local administrative structures, as well as growing regional unrest in the ethnic Bajorok regions resulting from the ongoing Bajorok Civil War. Fighting these threats to Serbovian internal security is expected to be high on the agenda of the new administration in its first months.

In addition, the new administration has promised to raise Serbovia's international profile after several months of relative inactivity resulting from serious health issues that have affected outgoing President Nedic during the last months of his administration. It is expected that Andelic and Plesic will lead Serbovia into taking a more proactive stance in relation to the ongoing Bajorok conflict to answer to popular demands to preserve the rights and security of ethnic Serboves in Pannonian rump states. The new administration is also expected to steer Serbovian foreign policy in a pro-Tarusan direction, resulting from Prime Minister Plesic's long-standing reputation as an advocate of closer Serbovian-Tarusan relations.

The Pressburg Pact ratified in Federal Congress, Plesic vows to work against threats to Serbovia

In its today's session, the Federal Congress officially ratified the newly established Pressburg Pact, the negotiation of which has been the first major diplomatic move made by President Andelic and Prime Minister Plesic since last August's elections. The Pressburg Pact, negotiated in the eponymous Csengian city last month, establishes a partnership between the Serbovian, Tarusan and Csengian governments. At the same time, Serbovia has formally recognized Csengia as a sovereign polity, being the first and so far the only Pannonian successor state being allowed formal recognition by Petrovgrad.

The Pact provides a broad framework for cooperation between its member states in military, political, economic and cultural spheres, and marks the establishment of a new power bloc in Central Europe. The decision also marks the official Serbovian withdrawal from the Central and Southern Economic Advancement Co-operative, which has largely become irrelevant with the collapse of the Pannonian state.

Speaking to Congressmen before the ratification vote, Prime Minister Plesic justified the establishment of the Pact with growing concerns over Serbovia's security, and the radical geopolitical changes in Serbovia's vicinity. Plesic accused the Remionese and Eiffellandian governments of using the Pannonian civil war as a pretext for expanding their own political power in the region, stating that an alliance with Tarusa and Csengia was the proper course of action to guarantee Serbovian security.

"An alliance between Tarusa, Serbovia and Csengia will guarantee the security of our homeland and the stability of our immediate near-region, and will improve our ability to counteract threats to the Serbovian people", Plesic continued. In particular, Plesic cited the recent Socialist takeover of the so-called Zara region, saying that Serbovia considered its current regime an illegitimate terrorist organization which would not be recogized by the Federal State.

Plesic also vowed that the administration would work to safeguard the rights of ethnic Serboves living in the territories of former Pannonia. Former Foreign Minister Dragan Kovacevic has been appointed as the Serbovian Special Representative to Former Pannonia, and a particular focus for his new role will be to counteract any human rights violations affecting ethnic Serboves. Rumors of ethnic cleansing against Serbovic communities in Zara have been spread in the recent weeks, and they are being investigated by Serbovian intelligence services. President Andelic and Prime Minister Plesic have both vowed that Serboves living outside of the Federal State's borders would be under Serbovian protection, and that offenses against them would be considered offenses against the Serbovian state.

Serbovian-Remionese relations hit an all-time low, Plesic names Remion "No. 1 threat to Serbovia"

Relations between Serbovia and its neighbor Remion are at an historical low after the Remionese delegate to the European Forum submitted a motion to expel Serbovia and Tarusa from the international organ. The two member states of the Pressburg Pact are being accused of illegal partition and military occupation of the Mandate of Thrakia, presided over by the two countries for the last decade, an accusation which has been sternly denied by Serbovian and Tarusan governments.

Prime Minister Aleksandar Plesic spoke to the Federal Congress today, denying the Remionese accusations of abuses in Thrakia and in turn accusing Remion of attempting to threaten Serbovian security. "Our achievements in Thrakia and our commitment to peace cannot be disputed by anyone. We have been the guarantors of peace for Thrakia for twenty years, and are now being painted as occupiers by Remion, which in turn under its previous administration invaded Pannonia in a failed attempt to seize territory for itself, and under this new administration continues to threaten European peace by trying to engineer instability in Thrakia.", Prime Minister Plesic said, continuing that Remion was now the primary threat to Serbovian security.

"The Remionese attempts to have our voice silenced from the international stage speak for themselves, as do these attempts against our presence in Thrakia. Undoubtedly the true motive of this initiative of theirs is to open Thrakia for Remionese influence, enabling them to threaten the security of our Fatherland from two fronts at once", Plesic continued.

Plesic's speech caused an uproar in the Federal Congress, where delegates from the ruling Party of National Renewal gave speeches condemning the Remionese campaign with patriotic fervor. Opposition politicians, on the other hand, have called for calm and a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

The Ministry of Defense has announced a temporary increase to the state of readiness of the Serbovian Armed Forces.

The Serbovian Center for Human Rights and Reconciliation officially founded

The Federal Congress has officially passed a motion establishing a new government-funded center for human rights monitoring and the promotion of international peace and conflict-solving. The newly founded Serbovian Center for Human Rights and Reconciliation will be jointly funded by the federal government as well as Serbovian universities and private benefactors, but will operate free of political supervision as an independent agency of the federal administration.

The new human rights center will be kickstarted with personnel seconded from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice, as well as partner NGOs and universities, but the eventual aim of the center will be to recruit their own base of personnel for its various roles. Ilja Pavlovic, a veteran diplomat who last served as the 2015-2020 Serbovian High Representative to North Thrakia, has been appointed to head the organization.

A main focus for the human rights center will be collecting information about the status of human rights in European countries and publishing regular human rights reports for both Serbovian and international consumption. In addition, the human rights center will concentrate on certain currently relevant focus topics as determined by the center's board of directors. Human rights assessments related to the recent Pannonian civil war and investigation of rumors of war crimes were specifically mentioned as a focus topic for the new center.

In addition, the human rights center will provide mediation and consultation on peace-building projects and crisis negotiation throughout the globe. This part of the human rights center's work would be largely modelled on Serbovian experiences of nation-building in North Thrakia during the recent decades.

International tensions run high, Serbovian Armed Forces at high readiness

International tensions are running at a record high with the recent invasion of Bourdignie by the Holy Frankish Empire, leading to many European states mobilizing their militaries and even the mentions of an emerging world war being spoken among the global political circles. States that have ordered their militaries in full or partial mobilization include at least Remion, Tarusa, Solléga, Ebria and San Jose.

The invasion comes in the wake of several concurrent international crises, including the ongoing diplomatic showdown between memberstates of the Pressburg Pact and its opponents. Many analysts fear that a full-scale open war is now closer than ever.

The Serbovian Armed Forces have been ordered to increase their readiness to the highest possible level preceding full military mobilization. In a press conference held today in Petrovgrad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' chief press spokesperson Katerina Markovic underlined that the heightened readiness was a response to growing international tensions and intended to make sure that Serbovian territorial sovereignity was not violated by any party. "Naturally, our desire is for calm heads to prevail and we are concerned that the ongoing situation in Bourdignie will escalate into a broader conflict. However, preparing for any eventuality is a necessity in the present situation", Markovic stated.

Serbovian responsibility for Thrakia increases, talks on the future to be held

The Serbovian government is moving on to assume broader responsibility for affairs in the European Forum Mandate of Thrakia, long divided between Serbovian and Tarusan-backed territories in the absence of an unified national government subsequent to the Thrakian Civil War of 2002-2003. The move follows a Tarusan announcement that it would make significant reductions to its presence in South Thrakia, drawing down most of its military assets in the region.

Elements of Serbovian military forces deployed in North Thrakia moved into South Thrakia earlier this week, taking over the territories that had been vacated by retreating Tarusan military forces. To back up existing Serbovian forces as well as the Thrakian-led North Thrakia Security Corps (KSST), Serbovia has deployed the 22nd Airborne Brigade and the 15th Light Brigade, as well as paramilitary elements from the Federal Police, to take over security in the new South Thrakian territories. Martial law has been declared in South Thrakia until the security situation there stabilizes to a sufficient degree. However, the Serbovian government has announced that its intent is to Thrakianize the civil administration in South Thrakia as soon as possible. The Provisional Authority of North Thrakia has reportedly requested to increase the manpower of the KSST as the force prepares to take over security in South Thrakia as well.

With the line of partition between North and South Thrakia now gone, many are speculating on the future of the region. Officials in the Provisional Authority are said to be in Serbovian-mediated talks with community leaders from South Thrakia regarding the future Thrakian administration. Both elected and appointed seats in the Provisional Authority were distributed through a heavy system of balances intended to guarantee equal representation of ethnicities and faiths, and the inclusion of the South Thrakians into the PA could possibly tip the scales.

In addition, North Thrakian political movements are experiencing an upheaval. Opposition parties which have advocated for Thrakian independence have increased their demands to end foreign involvement in Thrakian affairs. While protests are temporarily banned in South Thrakia due to the ongoing martial law, pro-independence protests have been held in some South Thrakian cities. At the same time, members of the Serbovic National Movement are demanding guaranteed autonomy for Serbovic areas in any future Thrakian polity. Some radical SNM members have even called for Thrakia's Serbovic communities to secede and apply for membership in the Federal State of Serbovia.

The role of the European Forum, which maintains a civil assistance mission and an oft-forgotten peacekeeping force in the region, has also been called into question. Commentators have raised questions about the need for a peacekeeping force enforcing an internal boundary, when that internal boundary no longer exists. Even more importantly, ongoing debates in EF about the future of the entire mandatory system might also have an effect on Thrakia's future.

An end to the mandate era at hand, Thrakians preparing for a new future

The system of European Forum Mandates appears to be nearing an end, with a Pelasgian-submitted motion currently on the way to replace the mandatory system in all mandatory territories. While results of the vote are yet to be announced, support for the motion has been overwhelming and near universal. Analysts believe that an abolition of the mandatory system is almost inevitable. Recent political events, such as the peaceful reunification of Thrakia and unrest in Iphilistines have led to increased criticism of the mandate system, seen as old-fashioned and an obstacle to the continued development of the current mandatory territories.

Under the Pelasgian proposal, the mandates system and the European Forum supervision of the mandates would be abolished. All mandatory territories would undergo a plebiscite on their future with the options of independence or various levels of association between each mandate and its former protecting power. The motion comes at a time when Thrakians are celebrating an end to the 20-year partition of their country and preparing to decide on its future. The partition of Thrakia was recently ended with Serbovia assuming responsibility for the protection of South Thrakia in an agreement with Tarusa.

An All-Thrakian Government Congress has been convened to start its work next week in Veliko Tarnovgrad and will decide on the future administration of the territory. The Congress, chaired by chairman Matey Todorov of the North Thrakia Provisional Authority, will include North and South Thrakian political and social leaders as well as Serbovian mediators.

Its original charter was to decide on the integration of North and South Thrakia and the establishment of new ethnoreligious quotas for administrative roles, but it appears that the organ will now find itself with the responsibility of steering Thrakia through an end of its mandatory period. Balancing the interests of various ethnic and religious factions in the country is considered to be a challenging task only twenty years after the country's destructive civil war.

Large public assemblies remain banned in South Thrakia, with martial law still in force. However, there have been extensive informal and private celebrations among South Thrakian citizens on Thrakia's reunification. In North Thrakia, celebrations and street parties have taken place throughout the territory. Most political groups have pledged to avoid partisan protests and to grant the Government Congress the ability to work in peace. However, the Thrakian Patriotic Front has marched in Veliko Tarnovgrad demanding for an end to Serbovian presence in the country.

Meanwhile in Crnograd, capital of the Serbovian-dominated Krajina region, members of Serbovian nationalist groups marched in favor of annexation of the Krajina into the Federal State of Serbovia. The traditional slogan of Serbovic nationalists in the region, "Krajina je Srbovija" (Krajina is Serbovia), was shown on banners and signs carried by the protesters. The Serbovian National Movement (SNP), currently in governing coalition with the Thrakian People's Party, said that the protestors were private citizens and members of smaller factions and that the party remained committed to the work of the Government Congress. However, SNP representatives refused to comment on the party's stance of the proposed annexation of the Krajina into Serbovia.

The concept of a Greater Serbovia rejuvenated in Serbovian politics

As Gallogermanian borders are being redrawn, most notably with the disintegration of former Bajororzsag into various rival successor states, the old idea that all ethnic Serboves should live within the borders of a single nationstate has been rejuvenated in Serbovian politics. The idea of a Greater Serbovia originally dates back to the 19th century and the birth of nationalism, and was a major theme in Serbovian politics up until the collapse of the Social-Nationalist regime in 1997.

Since then, mainstream parties avoided discussion of the subject for diplomatic reasons and to disassociate themselves from the old regime. Now, however, more and more politicians, thinkers and other notables are calling for the revival of the idea. Much of the current impetus for the idea comes from the chaos of the Pannonian Civil War, with many Serbovians suggesting that the protection of our ethnic cousins demands their incorporation into the Federal State. At the same time, the replacement of President Radovan Nedic - who notably blocked a Serbovian intervention in Pannonia - with Dejan Andelic has led to Serbovia adopting a more assertive foreign policy, including promises to protect ethnic Serboves outside of Serbovian borders.

In the Federal Congress, numerous representatives of the Party of National Renewal have proclaimed their support for the idea, even to a point where the PNR appears to be seeking a rapprochement with the Legion of St. Peter, formerly kept at an arm's length.

Indeed, the concept of a Greater Serbovia appears to be growing in influence within the ruling party. Neither President Andelic or Prime Minister Plesic have addressed issue. Recently, Plesic commented that Serbovia "would not deny the idea of a Serbovic territory seeking incorporation in the Federal State if it came on their own accord, but we remain committed to the instruments of diplomacy." His statements on Thrakia were more direct, stating that "the option for the Krajina and other Serbovic territories to join Serbovia is a necessity in any referendum on the region's future."

With the Serbovian assumption of control over the entire Thrakian territory and the looming end of the European Forum Mandates, nationalists on both sides of the Serbovian-Thrakian border have resumed calls for the incorporation of the Serbovian Krajina and other Serbovic territories into Serbovia. The Krajina has historically been a source of contention between Serbovian and Thrakian states, changing hands numerous times in wars throughout hundreds of years.

The question of other Serbovic territories is more complicated. Three Serbovic territories in former Pannonia are currently in the hands of the Zaran Socialist government: Vela Luka, Novigrad and Stankovici. Territories known in Serbovian discourse as Greater Severia are, on the other hand, held by the Csengan-aligned Kingdom of Pojazerna.

Both questions are controversial for diplomatic reasons and Petrovgrad has been more cautious with them as opposed to its rather direct policies in Thrakia. Zara is considered to be a contentious issue with Remion and other neighboring states, while Pojazerna is currently aligned with the Pressburg Pact with Serbovia.

Andelic steps down as President after wife diagnosed with throat cancer, Plesic named as successor

Serbovians everywhere in the country were shocked today as President Dejan Andelic gave a surprise announcement that he would be stepping down from his role with immediate effect. Andelic delivered an emotional address to assembled members of the Federal Congress announcing that Magdalena Andelic, his wife for fifteen years, had been diagnosed with a serious form of throat cancer and that her prognosis was overwhelmingly negative.

Magdalena Andelic was recently rushed to hospital and remains in medical care. Anonymous sources in the Presidential Chancellery claim that her illness is at an advanced stage, and that the First Lady had neglected to attend several previous medical examinations. The entire team of military physicians seconded to the Chancellery has reportedly resigned.

"It brings me no joy to abandon the Serbovian people in such a manner in these trying times, in a period of international tension. However, I must fulfill the holy vows that I have sworn as a husband before God Almighty. I have elected to resign the Presidency so that I will be there for my wife and partner of life to provide her all the support that she needs to fight this terrible, terrible disease. I will apologize to the voters who gave their trust in me, and can only hope that they will understand this sacrifice that I have made", the outgoing President spoke to the Federal Congress in one of the most emotional addresses seen in Congressional floors.

Current Prime Minister Aleksandar Plesic has assumed the role of the President of Serbovia in accordance with the constitutional line of succession. He was sworn in as President immediately after Andelic had left the podium in the Congressional Hall. In a surprise move that elicited applause from governing party Congressmen and outcry from the opposition, Plesic announced that he would be assuming the roles of both President and Prime Minister for the remainder of the current Presidential term. Opposition politicians have threatened to challenge the decision in Federal courts.

"My heartfelt sympathies go out to Dejan and Magdalena Andelic as they confront this tragedy. No one can judge him for this decision. I take no pleasure for assuming the mantle of the President of Serbovia under such circumstances. However, I will endeavor to serve the Serbovian people to the best of my ability and to honor the political legacy of Dejan Andelic", the newly inaugurated President Plesic spoke in a relatively brief address.

President Plesic announces the Serbovian annexation of Vela Luka, Novigrad and Stankovici as first act in office

Another surprise followed as Plesic continued with his speech announcing that the Serbovian Armed Forces had been ordered to occupy the territories of Novigrad (known as Bregogna by the city's Zaran residents), Vela Luka and Stankovici, formerly held by the dissolved state of Bajororzsag. A motion to annex the three territories was subsequently approved in Federal Congress. The move follows an immediate announcement made by the Socialist Republic of Zara, which had remained unrecognized by Serbovia for its existence, that the Socialist junta would dissolve itself as part of an agreement made with Remion and the Pressburg Pact.

"A hundred years of injustice will now be corrected and the Serbovian flag will once again fly high over the Castle of Novigrad. Serboves in the lost territories may now rejoice as they face reunification with the Fatherland. The promises made by this administration that all Serboves would be under our protection will now be honored, and Serbovia will be made whole", Plesic proclaimed, drawing standing ovation from Congressmen. At the same time, Plesic promised that the civil rights of non-Serboves in the regions would be honored and that they would be free to choose their place of residence and citizenship.

Plesic also gave his thanks to the Tarusan government, which played a vital role in negotiating a settlement to the Zaran Question. Plesic emphasized the continued importance of Serbovian-Tarusan relations and the existence of the Pressburg Pact.

The All-Thrakian Constitutional Congress commences work, EF resolution to abolish the Mandates passed
Catholic priest slain overnight in Tauresium, other flare-ups reported

The Pelasgian-submitted proposal to abolish the system of European Forum Mandates has been approved by an overwhelming majority. For the most part, the result did not cause a major surprise, as the proposal had already been supported by multiple notable EF members, including San Jose, Serbovia and Tarusa and its approval was seen as inevitable. The resolution obliges all former mandates and their protecting states to hold a referendum on the regions' future within six months.

The resolution comes at a time when the Thrakians are already making history, and the first joint assembly of North and South Thrakian representatives for the last twenty years is underway in Veliko Tarnovgrad. The All-Thrakian Constitutional Congress has been convened to come up with options for the future form of government in a newly unified Thrakia, which will then be put to a popular vote. Its North Thrakian members are representatives of the Territorial Assembly - the North Thrakian legislature - while the South Thrakians have been selected out of key community leaders, scholars and social, economic, religious and political activists.

The first week of the Constitutional Congress has seen intense political debates on rival proposals for the country's future constitution. The Todorov Plan, designed by the region's provisional head administrator Matey Todorov and championed by his People's Party of Thrakia, would organize Thrakia as an unified republic with guaranteed minority autonomy. Its main rival is the liberal-leftist Tarasov Plan, which in turn calls for a loosely organized federation. Smaller opposition parties are considered split between the two plans, while the Serbovian National Movement is demanding the annexation of Thrakia's Serbovic regions into the Federal State of Serbovia.

The fierce political debate on Thrakia's future is also reflected on the streets. Local branches of the Serbovian National Movement have organized regular protest marches calling for the so-called Serbovian Krajina to be incorporated into Serbovia, while other political groups have also been active in various street events. These events have remained mostly peaceful, even if heated. South Thrakia, however, continues to remain under martial law with a ban on all public gatherings. The Serbovian High Command, responsible for security in South Thrakia, has promised to lift the martial law by the end of the month if conditions in South Thrakia continue to improve.

The threat of ethnoreligious violence continues to cast a dark shadow over the Thrakian reunification. Numerous smaller militant groups remain active in the country, and authorities are warning hat they might ramp up their activities as the unification process continues. Last night, an ethnic Serbovic Tiburan Catholic priest was gunned down outside of Tauresium's Our Lady of Sorrows Church. No claims of responsibility were issued, but ethnic Thrakian nationalists are believed to be behind the attack. The Thrakian Provisional Authority has stated that those responsible for the killing would be found and punished.

In Thrakia, the Tiburan Catholic Church is commonly seen associated with Serbovians and the local Serbovic communities, and they were heavily targeted by Thrakian forces during the country's Civil War. It is feared that remaining Thrakian extremists might seek to target Catholic churches and other institutions associated with Serbovic culture. Numerous incidents of vandalism have already been reported.

News in brief

PETROVGRAD - The Ministry of National Defense has appointed a dedicated planning committee tasked with drafting plans for the development of the Serbovian Armed Forces for the following ten years. The committee, headed by Field Marshal (ret.) Milan Stankovic, will also draft a proposition for a new framework of defense expenditures to go with the forthcoming 2022 Federal Budget. President Aleksandar Plesic has indicated that he will seek to increase Serbovia's defense budget and the size of the Armed Forces. "Though the immediate threat of war has passed, we cannot be unprepared. A strong national defense is a necessity for this nation, and a necessity for our very survival", Plesic stated to reporters recently.

It has been rumored that Serbovia might be seeking to acquire a fifth-generation fighter jet which would eventually replace the current JBA-90 multi-role fighters that form the core of our Air Force's fighting capabilities. It is not known to the public whether a ready foreign model would be purchased or if Serbovia would develop such an aircraft either alone or with allied states. In addition, expansions and quality upgrades of the Serbovian Navy are believed to be on the agenda, as well as a concerted effort to develop greater offensive missile capabilities to counter-attack against potential Serbovian adversaries.

At least 800 arrested after opposition protests turn violent
Plesic says foreign-sponsored extremists are behind the unrest, promises action

Chaos ensued today in downtown Petrovgrad when large protests organized by the main opposition parties turned violent. Police spokesman say that violence started when elements in the opposition group, which was to march from the Grand Central Railway Station into Vukovic Park, attempted to break away from the main protest group to attack a counter-protest of nationalist activists.

Colonel Jasmina Gisic, the chief press spokesperson of the Greater Petrovgrad Metropolitan Police, said that elements in the protest group had attempted to force their way through police lines and had pelted both police and nationalist counterprotestors with stones, firecrackers and even fire bottles. The police responded with their batons and by firing flashbang and teargas rounds into the rioting crowd, and eventually even water cannons were brought in to subdue the riot. The entire protest was subsequently cancelled by order of the Metropolitan Police, and the crowd of estimated twenty thousand people was dispersed over the course of several hours.

At the same time on Antic Boulevard, Central Petrovgrad's popular commercial street which houses many high street department stores and smaller outlets, a smaller crowd of suspected anarchists accompanied by youth gang members went on a looting rampage. Several storefronts were ransacked and parked cars set alight, and even responding ambulances and fire engines reportedly attacked.

According to Colonel Gisic, the evening resulted in eight hundred arrests of protesters suspected of involvement in violence. She stated that those arrested included numerous members of known radical Solidarist organisations with extensive criminal histories and known extremist ties. Police booking facilities in Petrovgrad were reportedly filled to capacity at one point, and arrestees were transported into neighboring jurisdictions. Hospital sources have claimed that over three hundred civilians sustained various injuries in the rioting, while almost a hundred police officers were also injured. Material damages over the incidents are said to number in the millions.

President Aleksandar Plesic has condemned the violence, saying that foreign-sponsored extremists were behind the events and that the Serbovian government would pursue swift action against the extremist groups responsible for the incident. "We will not tolerate extremism and urban terrorism in our capital, and we will not tolerate the globalist conspirators bankrolling the groups responsible for this rampant violence", Plesic said to NRK reporters, also saying that he had ordered the Federal Directorate of Internal Security to take charge of the investigation into the events. President Plesic also said that the administration would consider if new anti-extremism measures were needed.
