THE WEST IS REJECTED, SCANIA SAYS THANKS BUT NO THANKS, IN WOTO DISCUSSION — FUTURE TALKS UNCLEAR

GØTHEHAVN. The Lagting gathered to discuss the potential of joining the Westernesse-Occidentia Treaty Organization (WOTO), which has additionally referred to itself as the Western Brotherhood. The argument was clear in that the common defense of western minded nations and those associated should be protected under the auspices and guidance of the Herrera-Constanza Doctrine. —The same family Constanza which recently won the Queen Louise Peace Prize. The Herrera-Constanza Doctrine is a backbone arrangement in which the Old and New Worlds are seen as divided by the Thaumantic Ocean and accordingly should respect each other's boundaries. An inherent difficulty lies in the fact that Skånskelag and the nations that comprise it are based in the derogatorily referred "Old World" which should respect the divide. Skånskelagen is perhaps already in violation of the Herrera-Constanza Doctrine, but additionally has seen to it as a defender of the doctrine historically. Traditionally the Herrera-Constanza Doctrine can be used as a tool in which Skånskelag has been able to urge or prevent in encroachment upon far-western nations.

There are other considerations in which Skånskelag must consider, and these issues ultimately provided the largest hold up in debate, where the Prime Minister deferred the question of membership to the larger body. While Scania is well known for its large naval forces which eagerly can and do support the Herrera-Constanza Doctrine from time to time, the crux of the debate also meant the application of larger military force into a greater military alliance with a larger hierarchy and "Continental Congress" which aimed to operate akin the European Forum. This point bothered many post-delegationist Members of Parliament and they ultimately rejected the idea on the basis of delegation.

Another key problem is that many Members of Parliament savvy with foreign policy circles acknowledged the fact that the Tsar in Tarusa was keeping an ear on proceedings on the WOTO. "The Tsar is believed to be adamant that the far-western socialistic nations are not to be aligned with, and he would be keen to isolate Gallo-Germanian nations which were to engage so closely with the far-west," said professor of International Relations at the University of Gothenhagen, Mikkel Jespersen. The Lagting in fact has traditionally preferred to coordinate with the Federation when considering Trans-Thaumantic arrangements, and if the Federation was not party to WOTO, it was always going to be difficult to get approval in Parliament.

Instead, Prime Minister Sophie Amalie Tordenskiold must now navigate discussions on how associate membership or affiliate status might look. Tordenskiold's Office has not actively answered any questions on the issue only responding, "once an amicable position has been negotiated Madam Prime Minister will hold a press conference immediately." Currently there is a negotiator at Camp Hill, but there is not rumored to be much progress as WOTO expansion with more readily available nations has taken priority. Already, membership has been extended to Mompracem the small island nation in the Silk Seas, and an affiliate status has been awarded to Solléga in southwestern Gallo-Germania and mother country of many of the Occidentian nations.

It is likely that Tordenskiold will want to hold discussions with the Tsar as well; however, with the recent difficulties and disagreements in the former Pannonia, it is unknown how successful such talks would be. Although it is worth considering the Tordenskiold Government has not advanced similar foreign policy as Eiffelland, Skånskelag has been traditionally vocal on maintaining a "balance of powers" in Gallo-Germania and wars are often loathed in the far-north for their disruption of trade and the likelihood to swing power balances. Either way, until firmer terms are negotiated in Camp Hill, Scanians must wait until any firmer foreign commitments are realized.

We would definitely like to have talks on more cooperation between our two countries. Our region is going through a very unstable period of time, and it will help if we discuss things out.

PRIME MINISTER TORDENSKIOLD DEAD, THE UNION MOURNS AND CRITICIZES COVER UP – NEW GOVERNMENT TALKS ONGOING

GØTHEHAVN. It has been several days since a shooting at a movie theatre on the outskirts of the capital occurred. Much of the nation had no idea what really occurred until this morning when Prime Minister Sophie Amalie Tordenskiold, who was seeing a movie there was finally pronounced dead. While everyone knew that something bad had happened to Her Excellency, the Government actively worked to cover up the details for many days trying to control the narrative which was neither controlled, nor covered up. The deficit of leadership and the question of who was really in control has left many wondering if everything that occurred was entirely outside the major guiding principles of Post-Delegationism which are supposed to guide this Parliamentary Union.

The early morning press conference which was handled by Foreign Minister Saga De la Gardie, highlighted how she has been in-charge of the caretaker government as she also held the position of Deputy Prime Minister, which is not so much a separate position but rather an indicator of who should take on the role of Prime Minister when they are not able to maintain their duties.

What happened though? According to the briefing provided by Deputy Prime Minister De la Gardie, an armed deviant walked into movie theatre in a normal fashion and upon seeing the Prime Minister queuing for food when to greet her and shot her four times in the torso. The murderer subsequently ran further into the theatre and escaped via a fire exit. All the more worrying is that the murderer still has not been apprehended. He wore a black hooded pullover and green trousers. Deputy Prime Minister De la Gardie stated that they had committed a huge error in perhaps not immediately releasing the CCTV video from inside the theatre to the public, but the Police did not want give the impression to the killer that he was specifically being hunted, especially as news of the attack upon the Prime Minister was suppressed as well.

The Prime Minister was apparently brought into hospital in critical condition, and surgery was successfully completed, but a lot of blood was lost prior to her arrival and she was finally pronounced dead the previous night. Her family kept her alive on a machine hoping her condition improved, which it did not.

This attack upon the nation has left Parliament startled as a politician has never been assassinated before. There has been a great deal of anger in hindsight as security was relaxed, the Prime Minister only travelled with one security guard which usually stayed out of her sight if possible. The security guard in this instance was outside of the theatre.

Furthermore, the public at large has been a bit outraged at how the entire affair was conducted. Members of the Lagting from Østveg have been especially critical of the entire cover up aspect suggesting it a gross violation of PDist ideals. «We do not delegate, and yet here we delegated, and worse of all we delegated to someone we did not even know for days!» proclaimed Jesper Solheim from the center-left Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

Deputy Prime Minister De la Gardie who comes from a former noble family in Gutarike with history tracing back to the Holy Frankish Empire has no intension to keep the Prime Minister job. «I am only a caretaker, and expect the Lagting, and specifically our Alliance of Liberals and Democrats to find a suitable successor.» The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats represents center-right politics with different political parties from the different nations in the Union all coming together. Although De la Gardie's family history comes from Gutarike, she herself is from Jydsken. Tordenskiold was also from Jydsken, and this was a source of some controversy. The ALD has a majority in Parliament in coalition with the smaller alliance, Nordic People's Party, that is also considered a center-right group; however, further right than the ALD.

It is hoped that a new Prime Minister can be confirmed before the weekend, with what is assumed to largely be the same ministers.

PRIME MINISTER INGER LISE BAKKEN SWORN INTO OFFICE, IMMEDIATELY SIGNALS INTENT TO JOIN WOTO

GØTHEHAVN. Choosing a new leader usually proves to be difficult for any political party, much less an alliance of political parties. Today the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALD), choose their new leader who will also lead the Union, in 37 year old Inger Lise Bakken from Østveg. She secured the votes in the party and navigated the threat made by the Nordic People's Party (NPP) by promising to embark on a Grand Coalition with the center-left Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) if the NPP dropped out due to her appointment.

By deftly navigating the troublesome politics that inhabit the Union of many nations that make up Skånskelag, Inger Lise Bakken appears to have shown that she is indeed ready for the spotlight. So much so, she has immediately signaled to the Westernesse and Occidentia Treaty Organization (WOTO), that Skånskelag plans to join a member, on some level acceptable to WOTO, but with conditions.

Early on in the discussion has been barriers for visas and immigration, something that has proved quite liberal within WOTO. As it stands, this has been an important barrier for Skånskelag because of the nature in which the individual nations often set their own immigration standards separate of the Union's government. Thus, the package deal that comes from the foreign policy jointly managed by the Scanlaw, has problems with large scale integration projects like this.

The Prime Minister also made it clear joining WOTO would likely comes with strings attached. She wanted a monetary union in which WOTO's currencies would be pegged to the Rigsdaler, the Union's currency. This sort of power move might be discouraged by those seeking to harmoniously integrate within WOTO, but it is quite clear that as the only nation that straddles the gap between what is often deemed the new and old world, there are some matters of importance that Prime Minister Bakken wishes to place upon Scanian membership.

«It would seem, that she wants to make sure that Scania is important in WOTO and not just another member, but at the same time, with certain conditions that really make it a member a la carte. I'm not sure the new world nations have an appetite for such things», commented University of Gothenhagen Social Scientist, Mikkel Runeberg.

Matters are further complicated because of the concerns of the previous government do not just go away. It remains to be seen how the Holy Frankish Empire, Eiffelland, and Tarusa understand or interpret such a move. As it stands, membership does not exist yet, but these nations may decide that they do not want such membership to happen and make moves to dissuade Bakken from moving forward with it. Alternatively, it is just as possible they do not care. Gallo-Germanian politics are often difficult to navigate as large personalities are often at work in its core. It is hard to know what exactly is on the mind of the Tsar for example.

Either way, the Government is again at work, and between WOTO membership and the ever evolving crises in the Meridian (both Hajr and Pelasgia), Prime Minister Bakken must act swiftly.

We are shocked to a high extent that an assassination of a politician could happen in Skånskelag. We strongly condemn this heinous assault, and offer all assistance possible to arrest the culprit and any organisation behind the person.

In response to this attack, the flags at the Eiffellandian embassy and all Eiffellandian consulates in Skånskelag will be flown at half-mast with a black banner for the duration of the mourning period, or until Prime-Minister Tordenskiold's funeral. Our condolences to Prime-Minister Tordenskiold's family and friends, as well as to the whole nation of Skånskelag.

We also extend our contratulations to Prime-Minister Bakken for her election. We wish her a calm reign. May the good relations between our countries continue.

NAVAL ARMS RACE IN GOTHIC SEA SPURS ON ECONOMIC GROWTH, BUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF A POTENTIAL WAR LARGELY IGNORED

GØTHEHAVN. An arms race has been building up in the Gothic Sea as the Nordic Parliament has approved a spending package for the creation of a third aircraft carrier and at least six new submarines. This race has been largely seen as an effort to counteract the build up in Tarusa, which likewise has attributed its own build up to actions within Skånskelag's member states. This would appear to be the classic case of a Thucydides trap as the Nords have traditionally seen the Gothic Sea as their naval domain - while at the sometime often ceding the land to Tarusa and the Holy Frankish Empire.

Never before as this been challenged as it has been now, as the Scanlaw extends from the Arctic to down to the mid-Germanics and may now include former-Bourdignie, now referred to in some circles as Walchenland-Dietlinchoven. This potential enlargement of the realm may strike fear in the hearts of many monarchies which have always been loathe see any success from the Post-Delegationist Nordic Republics and their Germanic cousins. Yet expanding further south is not seen as good in the eyes of the Holy Frankish Empire, nor Tarusa and certainly seems to upset the balance of power in that region, albeit nothing compared to the "coup" struck by Tarusa in former-Pannonia as a whole.

The result of all this is that shipbuilders in the Gothic Sea are finding themselves a prosperous 2021 and now 2022. As it stands, the Nords have always been a maritime culture, and the desire for more warships rather than commercial ones may impact the economy in the longer run, but of course there are also dedicated shipyards such as the Marineholmen Iron Works.

Looking south, many in the Germanic parts of the Scanlaw, notably in Thüringäu are quite motivated by both fear of their neighbors and the ideological drive to spread the ideals of the Republic and Post-Delegationism.

The President of Thüringäu-Lethonia, Maximilian Leupolz has been clear in his stance since the end of the Pannonian Crisis, "I see certain realms as unique to the German people and in such places the call to freedom, liberty, and the ideals of post-delegationism and the Republic are necessary." His own rebuttal to the referendum results when asked today were clear as well, "Perhaps the history of Pannonia has tainted their palette for unity with their brothers and sisters, but they as well do not delegate! I admire their spirit for independence. They may not desire to be under the wings of the Scanlaw, but they do deserve our assistance however possible while they navigate the stab-in-the-back from Patois and Frankish people."

Prime Minister Inger-Lise Bakken, and of course the leader of the Scanlaw was far more muted in tone, "I think there is still something to be said for cooperation in Central Germania, and while we'll assist where asked, I believe President Leupolz has clearer goals in mind for the expansion of liberty and freedom to these people that would be considered unprecedented in comparison to their past and their new neighbors."

All of which goes to show that when looking at similar news stories from the Holy Frankish Empire and the Empire of Tarusa, there seems to be a sort of collision course in which the three powers that reside on the Gothic Sea may have to settle their differences at some point. It can only be hoped for all civilians that this happens at an oak desk instead of a battlefield.

FULL BLOWN CRISIS AS LETHONIANS REJECT BAKKEN'S PLEAS TO END MISSILE PROGRAM, BAKKEN RESIGNS.

GØTHEHAVN, Jydsken — A problem with a missile splashing down into the Gothic Sea has amplified into a growing problem far larger than perhaps anyone would've known at the time. While the international ramifications are of course grave, it is the impact on domestic politics that is of course far worse. Prime Minister Bakken has resigned today after the failure to achieve any movement on the issue of the missile program or the question in former-Bourdignie. It had been expected that Bakken would need to achieve noticeable movement or progress on at least one issue to keep the international press at bay, and the inability to achieve either has placed her in a poor position both domestically and internationally.

There are not any formal power structures in place between the Prime Minister of the entirety of the Scanlaw and the traditional leaders of the individuals members of it. Typically member states have work their best to cooperate with the Prime Minister who has a role to keep unity within the Scanlaw, and yet at the same time be the outward policy maker of the entire group. Being unable to achieve that, Bakken's resignation makes sense; however, now that political norms have been crossed it will likely be impossible to keep unity between the members.

Bakken's resignation is a move that is not one that is conjured in disgrace, but also a move of power in itself. With her resignation it is quite clear that the Scanlaw faces a sort of constitutional crisis, as much as any nation without a constitution might see. Thus this creates a problem where any future Prime Minister knows they must also contend with the same scenario and likely with the same results. So either President Leupolz must bend, or he is the reason the entire system must be revisited. Bakken illuminated this in her resignation speech, «the impasse which I have faced will be revisited not only by the international community, but also the next Prime Minister». That is of course if there even is another Prime Minister as she further suggested that the entire system might be dated, «we may find ourselves left in a position where another grand moot must be gathered to set the rules in a modern post-delegationist society».

Naturally the idea of adding rules to a post-delegationist society inherently conflicts with some who portend that rules are delegated limitations and thereby the end of post-delegationist society. Of course a grand moot in itself is not seen as a terrible idea by everyone. The last grand moot that occurred was in 1921 and occurred without representation from anyone from Lethonia or Thüringäu.

Even still, without a grand moot, Bakken could find herself back in the Prime Minister's seat by Monday afternoon. There are not any front runners for the position other than herself and taking the seat again by a vote would suggest that the representatives from the other side of the Gothic Sea still support her and place themselves at odds against President Leupolz. Leupolz himself is in a relatively safe position. He has ignored protests and continued onwards with his ideas of a missile defense system in which any attack upon Lethonia-Thüringäu would result in catastrophe for the invader as well. The threat of a «recall vote» to remove him has not had any traction. Additionally, the public seems to overwhelmingly support his position in former-Bourdignie. This support is not shared in the north.

The next 72 hours will likely answer a lot of questions as to how the inner dynamics in the Scanlaw will develop.

STORTING UNABLE TO DRAMATICALLY CHANGE THE DYNAMICS OF THE SCANLAW — PARTICIPANTS AGREE ON FURTHER DEVOLUTION

TROLLSHJEM, Østveg — The crisis of the prior weeks and the ongoing debate on the Lethonian-Thüringäu missile project prompted the first «grand moot» in a century. Dubbed as the Storting or Large Thing, representatives gathered in Østveg for the proceedings and found themselves in need of establishing new rules for the union and common law.

Against the backdrop of the missile crisis, of which President Leupolz stated publicly in front of the Storting that more tests were planned, the agreement put into place was that further devolution was necessary. As a result Parliament and the Prime Minister role were scrapped, to be replaced by a popular election of a President to represent all within the Scanlaw. The President would assume a multitude of roles, but would not have the powers to control military orders. Instead, these rights would fall to the individual nation-members within the Scanlaw. The President instead would set foreign policy and direct coordination between the members.

The members of the Scanlaw are obliged to assist in all members defensive wars; however, this missile crisis was agreed upon to not fall within the parameters of a defensive conflict thereby giving Jydsken and Østveg, the main opposition to the missile program the ability to opt out of a conflict. Even still, the individual members will have the power to decide where and when to commit themselves.

There was a great deal of talk on trying to split Lethonia-Thüringäu into functionally separate members in order to further dilute power within the Scanlaw, and ultimately the Island nations would also exercise their own individual power thereby reducing the political power of Jydsken. This couldn't be agreed upon because neither of the nations in question could agree to the proposal. This was criticized by the Austwegians as a betrayal to the Post-Delegationist cause.

Removing the Parliament and Prime Minister positions still represent a strengthening for the cause of devolution. Presidential Elections have been agreed upon for March 2nd, thereby beginning election season immediately. The quick turnaround naturally has the largest characters immediately being seen as the frontrunners, immediately pitting Leupolz versus Bakken in a Scanlaw wide popular election.

In a counter to the position of the President, and to replace the old Parliament, the Lagting was created in which two representatives from each nation-member would sit permanently in order to meet in crisis scenarios with the President. This was hoped to be a mechanism which could be utilized should the missile crisis expand.

Not all representatives of the Storting were pleased about the outcome, but no agreement could be arranged between all the members for any other potential solution. They did however agree to meet again a year later.

BAKKEN WINS AGAIN! INAUGURATED AS THE FIRST PRESIDENT OF SKÅNSKELAG

GØTHEHAVN, Jydsken — Inger Lise Bakken has been sworn in as the first President of the Scanlaw in a triumphant victory for the Scanians in the Anti State-like union that encompasses the northern Post-Delegationists. Her victory after appealing to sensible policies and non-military solutions to the problems that faced the region spoke to both Scanians and Germans, leading to her rather sweeping victory carrying nearly two-thirds of the vote.

President Bakken has made it clear that while she would do everything in her powers to shield the Germans of the Scanlaw in the European Forum, she would not violate the decision of the European Forum. She would state in her inaugural address, "it is important to abide to the terms set forth by the international community, because we are a trustworthy and responsible international leader. Those who work explicitly against us must know that we will not submit to coercion or unfairness; however, we will cooperate as all good nations must in the collaborative efforts for the greater narrative of international peace."

A key and interesting component was her appeal to old friends. "I urge that international isolationists such as the Federation and Anti-State awake from their slumber and not allow the international community to bully their oldest friends." The Anti-State of course is the oldest Post-Delegationist entity and a source of inspiration for the Nordic Post-Delegationists, while the Federation has traditionally subscribed to similar politics.

President Bakken however is keenly aware of where her powers are limited, but seems to have managed to get President Leupolz of Lethonia-Thüringäu to submit at least partially to the EF Resolution No. 2/2022. This may avert war with her neighbors at least in the near term. In some respects, this may garner enough time for her to consolidate her new union. As it stands, the Scanians are not interested in helping to defend the Germans should war break out immediately. She wishes to change this in order to reassure the Germans that Scania will help. "I aim to station Scanians in Lethonia starting immediately, in order to help with the common defense and repair perceptions between the peoples of our union."

When her Office was questioned on what that meant, it seems as though the coastal regions would begin to see increased Scanian Naval traffic and that the individual Armies of the Scanian republics would be stationed on those same coastal regions where they could be easily reinforced by their home nations. Meanwhile, Lethonian President Leupolz has called the influx of additional defensive help as the key reason for why he was willing to abide to the terms of the European Forum.

PEACE IN THE GOTHIC IS DECLARED AS PACT IS SIGNED ON TSARIST YACHT, RAMIFICATIONS ACROSS THE GLOBE FROM FORMER PANNONIA TO COLONIAL HOLDINGS

GOTHENHAGEN, Jydsken — A top secret diplomatic meeting aboard a yacht in the Gothic Sea yielded results after blusterous discussions in the European Forum found little progress. The results are the type of statist high-brow political deals that usually like to be avoided, but are often necessary to secure peace when a disastrous war looked all the more necessary. The commercial interests of the Scanian and Germanic dominated Scanlaw took priority in the meetings to some degree as the peace process awarded territory in Bourdignie to both the Holy Frankish Empire and to Tarusa, but these concessions did not come without similar territorial awards, as the remaining territory is now open to Germanic desires to create a post-delegationist Bourdignie. The highlight of the peace conference aboard a yacht was not this. Ordinarily this agreement would signal a normal peace conference, but the Germanic post-delegationists were not content with this arrangement alone.

Negotiated by the Scanlaw's Metsamaan allies, a great Gothic Sea Pact has been arranged in which the fortunes of the three national entities, plus Metsamaa would cooperate on a larger scale.

To be headquartered in Metsamaa, with an associate branch in what is to become Frankish Hajr, the new Pact is designed to "keep the peace in Gallogermania by agreeing to cooperate outside of Gallogermania," according to a spokesman for the Bakken Administration. The new arrangement identifies parts of Northern Himyar for group collective work, where colonial ambitions for the Holy Frankish Empire and Tarusa align with the expansion of post-delegationism. The result is a boon for corporations in the Scanlaw which will have far more unrestrained ability to expand oil and other natural resource opportunities in Himyar for Nordoil, which will be able to expand operations with the aid of the new Gothic Sea Pact.

The result of this is the immediate deployment of further military assets to Hajr, which has apparently included Free Eugenian troops, which have apparently finished their training in Georgia.

Furthermore, the peace agreement is seen as helpful for the naval build up in the Gothic Sea. "Our ship building competition now has a constructive outlet outside of our small pond," stated Mikkel Holmberg an analyst at Postdelegationiska institutet who largely saw the new Pact as a victory. The arrangement between autocracy and post-delegationism will result in likely what is to become a new world order so long as other liberal democracies and libertarian entities have nothing to say about it. Any new world order is not to the detriment of other partners to the nordics however. President Bakken herself has stated that she is interested in a meeting with Tianlong and with Ebria in order to fill in various gaps in policy.

The Holy Frankish Empire cannot completely be considered an autocracy with their elections system, and this Pact is likely to help tie the knot between the two supra-entities as a planned bridge-tunnel project between Jydsken and the northern most provinces of the Holy Frankish Empire will be designed and constructed as part of a deal to harmonize economic ties. Other economic ties are also likely to announced in the coming weeks to months as the fallout from the Gothic Sea Pact is put into place and new details are announced. An official charter document has not been released yet, but is expected to within the next months to formalize the understanding between the government entities.

Peace seems solidified in Gallogermania for the near future, but the balance of power has now heavily skewed northward between the Empires and Post-delegationist which coupled together with their expansionist policies, will look to expand their contradicting ideologies hand-in-hand. How long this marriage can continue is likely to be based on how well the Scanlaw can keep together in unison on policy decisions, and how well the Holy Frankish Empire can manage to keep the more polarized positions being the Tsarist Tarusa and Post-Delegationist Scania, in line. The new organization that will help make the Gothic Sea one of the most important economic waterways in the world will send ripples across the globe and the immediate fallout to such a massive change in global dynamics is almost impossible to predict.

KJELLERUP UNION DEAL DECLARED, SPECIFICS CHANGE THE GAME OF POLITICS IN THE SCANLAW AS MORE INFLUENTIAL ANTI-STATE LOOKED TO AS ROLE MODEL FOR THE UNION

KJELLERUP, Jydsken — A long conference like meeting lasting six days where most of the work was done in private backrooms, hotel lobbies, and coffee shops resulted in an entirely new way into politics will be conducted in the Scanlaw. The main takeaway having been that the Union will now be shaped more in the identity of the Anti-State in effort to return to ideological purity. This 'new deal' aims to improve relationships within the Scanlaw which has frayed at the seams since the new Presidential system left the entire Union at literal blows. The result ultimately will be continued devolution, but also a new position of Arch-President which will be a long term position similar to Akira Hayabusa's Dictator role in the Anti-State.

The Arch-President will serve as President of each national entity within the Scanlaw and thus must be unanimously elected to the position in each nation. This process will start at the capital in Jydsken, where the Parliament of Jydsken will elect a President who will then have to be approved by each nation. Theoretically this gives each nation a veto on the appointment of a President, and it is when the President becomes President of each national entity that they would become Arch-President. The Arch-President in theory will serve until confidence is lost, but due to the extremely difficult nature of appointing one, it very well may mean that an Arch-President owns the title for life.

This new position recognizes the fact that each union member having a different political leader made for a mess in cohesion and uniform policy. Already divisions within the Union have made efforts in Hajr and Al-Magrab difficult with Generals largely having the purview to act in their own strategy and wishes. The result is hardly any progress in Al-Magrab with Generals preferring to commit to the more easily pacified Hajr due to the longevity of administrative links and occupation dating far longer than the invasion.

Arch-President will be commander-in-chief as well as head of state for the Scanlaw, with head of government being a bit more difficult to understand with each national entity having their own Parliamentary system. Naturally, the Arch-President will sign all acts into law and therefore will nominally work like an elected monarch fashioned in the style of the Anti-State.

How this will work with current disagreements is complex. Kahlenburg agreed to the terms by having the Germanic region divided into further smaller elected nation republics composed of multiple counties. These 'republics of counties' are spread across Lethonia, Thüringäu and Bourdignie, effectively eliminating the old nations and creating a complex web of smaller republics. Kahlenberg itself seems promised to propose Akira Hayabusa as President, and thus Arch-President, something which will have considerable traction there, but perhaps not anywhere else. In total, from the three main entities, there will now be 11 Germanic Republics which compose the Scanlaw of Merzien. Lethonia will remain for the native Lethonian population however.

Another area of difficulty is the Austwegian departure from the Scanlaw, which while they have in theory agreed to the new Kjellerup Union Agreement, they are likely to not be cooperative in the Presidential selection, with many suggesting they may not agree to the Arch-President.

The new arrangement therefore does not seem likely to stop the same instability that pre-existed, which is also likely why the delegates from Østveg and Kahlenberg agreed to the terms. However, this new Kjellerup Union Agreement will prevent further degradation of the Union itself as there seemed to be a certain je ne sais quoi in the air in which the Scanlaw will entirely collapse leading to dysfunction in Northern Himyar and the newly agreed to Gothic Sea Pact and Democracy and Defense Forum. Now that can be averted with a more powerful central authority who is supposed to place the Scanlaw back on ideological track and march to the same tune as Hayabusa's Anti-State. However, it is likely that what appears to be a schism between the Anti-State and Scanlaw will continue. There are no indications that the Anti-State will ever approve of the Scanlaw's actions Northern Himyar, and it will be up to the future Arch-President to figure out how to remedy this.

AUSTWEGIANS REJECT ARCH-PRESIDENT PROPOSED, SUGGEST NEW CANDIDATE IN RESPONSE TO ADD CHAOS TO ARCH-PRESIDENT APPOINTMENT

TROLLSHJEM, Østveg — The new Government which will be headed by an Arch-President has still yet to find their man as the position has proven difficult to fill as was expected. The most recent candidate was Jon Mikkelsen from Jydsken and has been rejected by the Austwegians. Mikkelsen was seen as too Unionist by the Austwegian Parliament. This opinion should perhaps not take anyone by surprise, as the Austwegians earlier declared their outright independence from the union after joining the Gothic Sea Pact. Mikkelsen is an experienced politician and was confirmed by Gutarike and Lethonia thus far.

In return, the Austwegians have nominated Bent Sehested, who is interestingly the Jyskish diplomat who represented Jydsken at the CETO meeting and declared the Scanlaw willing to take the steps to sign onto the World Belt Initiative by having the Scanlaw departing Himyar and imperialistic desires in that region. Sehested has immediately refused the offer, "I represent the civil service and the interests of Jydsken, I have no design on political office or anything that should look similar to the role of Akira Hayabusa."

This threw a wrench into the plans made by the Austwegian Parliament who have subsequently recommended Sofie Thott, another political aspirant from Jydsken who has also voiced some dismay with the current atmosphere in the Scanlaw. The strategy seems clear. Divide Jydsken from Gutarike in the election of the Arch-President in order to gain an ally for Østveg within the Scanlaw. The strategy appears to be working, as there seems to be a sudden swell of support for a Thott candidacy.

Gutnish viewpoints have found the entire scenario outrageous. Their political elements have aligned with the Gothic Sea Pact in full and outright rejected any alternative. "Mikkelsen will be Arch-President," proclaimed the Speaker of the Gutnish Parliament.

How this has worked out in the German Lands is another question. It is highly unlikely any German native speaker will be able to grab the support needed to pass in any of the major Scanian nations and therefore their representatives have worked tirelessly to try to find a supportive Scanian. Even still, Akira Hayabusa from the Anti-State has been nominated as Arch-President in three German nations.

Mikkelsen will be voted upon still, but a few German Lands have desired to wait to see if Jydsken will approve Thott or not. If Jydsken does, some of these German Lands might opt for Sofie Thott's candidacy and not even put forward Mikkelsen's. The current President of Lethonia, Maximilian Leupolz has stated that perhaps another candidate should be tried in order to gain broader support. He has floated the name of Gutnish politician Stellan Holmström. Holmström is a center-right hawk that has similar policies as Mikkelsen, and would seem redundant on paper, but perhaps find more support in some of the German Lands.

All of this bargaining has left many dismayed at this process, which may never produce a good compromise. Some worrying that the militias may get involved again if nothing can be figured out before the end of the summer. Also worrying is that the implications of who is appointed. There are possible alliances between CETO and the already existing Gothic Sea Pact. Austwegian officials have also travelled to Metsamaa, leaving some to wonder if Østveg relegating itself to a similar status as Metsamaa might solve the impasse and leave all parties happy with a new type of compromise.

Expect nothing to be at least this week, as everything must first be figured out in regards to Sofie Thott, and her candidate will be voted upon on Thursday.

AUSTWEGIANS AND JYSKISH HAVE CONFIRMED A DIFFERENT ARCH-PRESIDENT THAN GUTARIKE, CHAOS SPARKED AS SEVERAL LEADERS CLAIM ARCH-PRESIDENT ROLE

GOTHENHAGEN, Jydsken — In what was originally seen as a landmark deal to keep the union together under a singular leadership, a Nordic schism now seems more likely than ever with Gutarike having confirmed that Frederik Horn is their their Arch-President. In opposition is the confirmation today from Gothenhagen that Frederik Horn was not recognized as Arch-President and instead Sofie Thott was the rightful Arch-President. The lines have been drawn clearly as each constituent part of the Scanlaw is now claiming one of three individuals as Arch-President, Gutnish Frederik Horn, Jysk Sofie Thott, or Touzenese Akira Hayabusa.

The battle has largely been on paper, with continual combatting statements released to the public. Social media has been awash with memes, trolls, and hatred. If not for the Gothic Sea Pact it is believed that the nations would have come to blows by this point. "The Gothic Sea Pact has make conflict not make much sense to anyone yet. So far, everyone is still on the same side, but in theory one shot could destabilize the entire situation," stated Jannik Beck, Professor at the King Christian VII Institute for International Affairs at the University of Gothenhagen. Thus far the standing militaries of these Nordic nations have coordinated deeply in hopes to avoid such a shot, but social media saw an Austwegian naval ship come dangerously close at high speed to a Gutnish ship that responded to the high speed maneuver with their fire suppression water cannon.

Meanwhile, there are some worries that militia units may decide to take the matter into their own hands. So far this has been avoided, but not without constant orders given by the respective governments to have the militia hold defensive position in key mountain passes.

A further complication is that the Association of Petroleum Producing States (APPS) is awaiting a signature from the Scanlaw; however, there is not a clear indication which Arch-President APPS expects to have sign the document officially. All of the Scanlaw's members have agreed to joining APPS, and so there is a degree of unity on the topic. Even still, there seemed to originally be some questions as to if the different Arch-Presidents would hold different opinions. The Gutnish Frederik Horn enthusiastically approved joining APPS, and there seemed to be some believe that Jyskish Sofie Thott would opt against APPS, but this seemed to be mere speculation as she would state several hours after Mr Horn that she would also approve the Scanlaw's joining of APPS.

In other arenas, the Scanlaw has no current representative at the European Forum, and has a strange delegation that does not meet together between each other in the Gothic Sea Pact's headquarters in Metsamaa. They are only in contact via digital communication and it is unknown how coordinated they are. The diplomats there do seem to understand that the Gothic Sea Pact is the glue holding everything together, so their actions in some ways are an expression of a desire to maintain the peace.

There are some worries that a foreign power may decide to recognize one over the other, principally in the competition between Miss Thott and Mr Horn. Such recognition would further raise the stakes towards shots being fired as placing one party behind the other would likely increase the necessity of such action. Others have suggested that a divorce should just occur in order to avoid any bloodshed. A divorce would significantly weaken both sides and that is not seen as appealing. Even still, a divorce may prove to be the only option.

JYSK-AUSTWEGIAN AMBITIONS TOWARDS HANSEATIC MEMBERSHIP TEMPERED BY DDI STRIKE AT HEART OF SCANIA, CRISIS OF UNION AS AMBITIONS DIFFER

TROLLSHEJM, Østveg — The topic of re-joining the Germanic Post-Delegationists stirred a great deal of enthusiasm in Scania as worries of Tarusan invasion gathered steam, but now after joint Federation-Hanseatic bombardment of major Gutnish ports, there is a sense of unease as opinions differ tugging at the seams of what seemed a solid union that may not be so solid after all. Is another divorce happening in slow motion?

Originally, the key components to all actions in the Gothic Sea seemed to hinge on what threat seemed to preoccupy the region. Usually this thread was that of the revanchist Tarusans which in many ways represented a return to monarchy that did not endear itself to anyone in the Scanian region. However, as the threat from Tarusa seemed to wane as the Scanlaw committed political suicide in allying with Tarusa, the entire union fell apart with various parts doing their best to find the best security situation that they could.

Now, there is a different security threat in that the DDI's Federation and Hanseatics are attacking Gutarike. The shared cultural identity has left mixed emotions. The Jysk feeling more supportive of helping to defend Gutarike, meanwhile the Austwegians feeling more in line with the DDI. Jysk protests in Gothenhagen demanded military aid to the Gutnish, while the scenes in Trollshjem were far more mutes as a regular day seemed to go by. This difference became apparent to politicians in Jysken who have used it as a political ploy to gain power, or an edge. Some perhaps believing the Jysken could stand to gain by reuniting and bringing order back to the Gutnish.

The Austwegians have no budged on their desires to rejoin with the Hanseatics and so the union of Jysken and Østveg would appear to be a crossroads.

Prime Minister Sofie Thott is from Jysken, and seems to hold the keys, but Austwegian politicians in Gothenhagen threaten to walk out if there was even a debate on the issue of joining the war against the DDI. Miss Thott kept the issue off the floor, but there is no assurance she can do so forever, especially as graphic scenes fill television sets across the region.

Would the Jysk go it alone? That much is hard to say, but the regional Parliament for Østveg has expedited their vote on Hanseatic membership to attempt to push the issue forward. Their politicians have urged the overseas departments of the realm to do the same. The question will be what direction the capital decides to go.

POLITICAL REFORM IS AGREED UPON AS TARUSAN INVASION OF HANSEATICS BEGINS, A GRAND THING IS CALLED UPON TO EXPLORE OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO THE PEOPLE

TROLLSHEJM, Østveg — The recent turbulence in the Gothic Sea has prompted the Jysk-Austwegian post-delegationist society to reconsider how things might work. As the post-delegationist Scanlaw floundered and collapsed, so too did union with Metsamaa and the idea of union with the Hanseatics. Jydsken and Østveg battled each other on policy towards the attack upon Gutarike, only for the two sides to have the decision made for them after the Tarusans began their invasion of the Hanseatics in response to the Valls Pact attack upon Gutarike.

The general consensus seems to be that the government will be reformed to something statist, with generally options for a republic or a constitutional monarchy seeming most probably. The option of monarchy is widely disliked, but the precarious position in which the Jysk-Austwegian polity is situated may call for the invitation of a monarch from Tarusa, Rheinbund, or Ebria, in order to hopefully set up a strategic unofficial alliance of sorts.

This option would likely spark fierce debate and could even fracture the dual-nation.

Meanwhile there are some who would like the nation to embrace an older-self and embrace religion more. The example of Thaumantica could prove useful to some at the Grand Thing; however, such an embrace might conflict the more individualistic streak of the Jysk-Austwegians.

The Grand Thing is expected to last at least one week, but could last several more if a decision cannot be come to. It is even possible that the failure to come to a decision would just result in the status quo being maintained. Even still the current position of neutrality is not expected to be up for debate. The precious hydrocarbons produced are likely needed by the entire world, and natural gas from Østveg, combined with petroleum from Jydsken, will only become more and more valuable as Gutnish and Tarusan exports grind to an absolute halt.

JYDSKEN MOVES TOWARDS ENGWAHLIAN COMMUNALISM WITH ITS OWN CHURCH OF JYDSKEN, ØSTVEG MAY FOLLOW IF ALLOWED TO CHOOSE CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCH

TROLLSHEJM, Østveg — As the dust has settled from the Great Thing meeting, no real consensus was found aside from the fact that Austwegian delegates felt blind sided by the unity of Jysk delegates in their pressure for a Communialist state based upon the more Engwahlian merchant tendencies. The Austwegians demands of a Republic or Constitutional Monarchy were not unified enough, but the Jysk may agree to adopt such a structure within the tenets of Communialism. The Austwegians largely remain opposed due to a far less religious population and questions as to whether or not the new nationstate would receive any help or assistance from the Thaumanticans which profess a more Catholic viewpoint upon Communalism.

The Church of Østveg is also not particularly keen on endorsing Communalism and this creates a rift between the two churches. "By default, we believe that the relationship with God is more personal than the communal," spoke an anonymous preacher in Østveg which did not wish to cause a political rift. This divide in the churches and divide in the populous might spark old christian rivalries of past. Not to mention possible anger from the Thaumanticans if they see this movement as a rival cult of some form.

A general animosity between the North and the Thaumanticans due to the differences in Communalism and Post-Delegationism has dictated relationships between the regions for as long as anyone living can remember. Austwegians do not seem keen to try to adopt a rival belief system, at least not so willingly as the Jysk are.

"There seems to be a growing sense of unease and fear in Jydsken, where a regional friend is needed else the same pitfalls upon Gutarike might happen to Jydsken. Austwegians won't backdown without a fight, and won't give into fear", spoke former leader Inger Lise Bakken who seems primed for a political return to the big stage. Herself, a believer in the invitation of a monarch in order to gain support from abroad. "We've been left behind by the DDI in favor of the Hanseatic Republics who now find themselves at the end of sword. We Nords must now blaze our own path beyond the restrictions of the experiment that was Post-Delegationism, and to do that we must invite a head of state that understands us awhile offering the protection their family name provides."

The Jysk don't buy this argument, and believe a new ideology is key, and copying the Thaumantic government style might prove best. However they see themselves willing to let the Austwegians come along, in so far as giving the Austwegians the push they need to come along with the ability to elect a new monarch from Østveg.

Ultimately the debate will continue constitutionally and emotionally over the case between 'we' versus 'I'.

ELEVENTH HOUR AGREEMENT CREATES THE NORTHLAW COMMUNE AS JYDSKEN AND ØSTVEG FINALLY COMMIT TO UNION

TROLLSHJEM, Østveg — When considering that "one is less than zero" one family will be greater than the rest. In a supreme turnabout, a post-delegationist nation will invite via parliamentary election a King or Queen to preside over the Two Kingdoms that will compromise the Northlaw Commune (Nordlagkommune). The cognitive dissonance of placing a royal family on a throne of the north which has not existed since the beginning of the post-delegationist era in the early 20th century, was considered instead a brilliant political maneuver which garnered cheers of "hipp hipp hurrah!" throughout the north. Communalism as an institution will keep the Jyskish military from rebellion, and the demands of the Austwegians being able to select a monarch after the fact will keep the Austwegian clans (ætt) at bay.

However, the new edition of this union is not without immediate questions. While the Austwegians will maintain their parliamentary system, the Jysk have seemingly fallen into some kind of awkward single party democracy which has drawn parallels by some to Ostmark's days of sorrow. It was important for the Austwegians to maintain an open and free press throughout the Northlaw, and this demand was something that has kept the sides at odds apparently for over a week.

The new Northlaw will be unique in the communalist sphere due to the fact that it does not follow similar governance patterns in Thaumantica, but it will elevate the Church of Jydsken and the Church of Østveg which will return to their pre-post-delegationist role as pillars of the state. Flush with new funding, the role of Christianity in the north may change.

Worth considering is the fact that the new Monarch will appoint a Prime Minister that will have to be confirmed by the Jydsken Parliament which is a one party state, and the Austwegian Parliament which will have several political parties. The Austwegians get to control the monarchal invitations as part of allowing for the Jysk Communal Party to dominate, and the Austwegians are expected to offer the role to a young princess in Ebria should she accept the demand to convert to the Lutheran state churches. This is not without some risk, as it is seen by some as a snub to the other regional monarchies. There is a belief that the Ebrians are more moderate compared to the more conservative monarchies in the other European nations. Should the Ebrians decline, it is likely that the crown would go to a member of a prominent clan in Østveg.

Additionally, the new capital city for the union is likely to be in the major trading port of Tyskebryggen, away from the Austwegian power structures in Trollshjem. Furthermore, s
oon the arm with the sword will soon be removed across the north, only now to be seen on the center of the black and white nordic cross of Metsamaa. Tomorrow, the cross will rise and with it an era in which we might be greater than I.

To: Administration of Northlaw Commune
SUBJECT: Congratulations and the future

Esteemed colleagues,

The Crown of Ebria congratulates the nations and the peoples of the polities of Jydsken and Ostveg (Yscónia y Oestia) for reaching a compromise that will manage to keep them united together, managing to find a compromise between two quite different political systems. Finding that compromise might have been difficult, and keeping and respecting it might be even more, but if there is something the Scanian nations have shown to the world, is that the sum of their strengths will always be stronger when they are together, than when they are disunited.

The Casa de Sánchez has responded that they have been honoured by the invite of his majesty King Manuel III's younger sister, Princess Maria and current Duchess of Betica, to be invested as a monarch of the new northern polity. She will renounce her title in Ebria and will convert to Lutheranism, promising to respect the social mores of the new state and make it her new home. Understanding the role she will take in the current political, economical and military environment of the region, we hope that the people of the north will welcome her with open arms and will never regret the decision.

The Crown thus also recognises the Northlaw Commune (whose name will henceforth enter Ebrian language as La Mancomunidad de Septentrionia) and we hope that our nations and yours will begin a fruitful and cordial relationship.

Signed and Sealed
