Himyar
Hanseatics lay claim to former Gutnish North Himyar
23. Mai 2023 | Lesezeit: 3 min

The absence of Gutarike in North Himyar has left the oil rich region hazardously unguarded, the events unfolding in Tarusa and Tarusan Al-Magreb leave the Gutnish Sector in need security - but this is not easy, CETO nations disagreed with the occupation and even Ivanist Tarusa may believe it to be their own as well.

Von Zäzilia Henckell, Bardaq (Al-Magreb)

The news from of the last year in petroleum markets has been nothing but negative as crisis after crisis has hurt global production time and time again. With the most recent problems of piracy and now a Tarusan succession crisis, an oil supply crisis is in full swing. This has ultimately made it to the desk of First Bürgermeister and President Katharina Günther who has spent the last week in debate with close advisers on which route to take in order to first these supply problems. The first and foremost appeared to be an immediate tackling of the problem of piracy, but while this endeavor has proven fairly successful, the risk in the Gothic Sea has not immediately disappeared either. Thus it has fallen upon Günther to find another way to ease the problems of petroleum shortages, Al-Magreb where the Gutnish may not have the ability to maintain their presence with their naval pirates locked up in the Gothic Sea.

First of all, an oil supply crisis presents numerous challenges that have far-reaching consequences on multiple levels. The economic impact is substantial, as oil is the lifeblood of modern industrialized societies. This crisis has not spared a single economy in Europe. A sudden disruption in oil supply leads to soaring fuel prices, which directly affect transportation costs, manufacturing processes, and consumer prices. This, in turn, can trigger inflationary pressures and hinder economic growth. Additionally, countries heavily dependent on oil exports for revenue face significant financial strains, leading to budget deficits and potential social unrest. Geopolitically, an oil supply crisis can exacerbate tensions between oil-producing and oil-consuming nations, potentially leading to conflicts or strained diplomatic relations. Many noted academics have theorized that oil is a main culprit in the relative instability in Pelasgia.

While it seems quite easy to turn on the
spigot, there are more complexities at hand when attempting to expand oil supply. Increasing oil production usually requires drilling new wells or optimizing existing ones. This is because current wells are usually never turned off due to the danger of the oil failing to produce thereafter. Oil reservoirs are complex underground formations with varying geological characteristics. When production is initiated, the pressure in the reservoir is carefully managed to allow oil to flow to the surface. Shutting in a well and then restarting it can impact the reservoir dynamics, including pressure distribution and fluid movement. Restarting production after a shutdown may require measures to restore the desired pressure levels and ensure proper reservoir management, which takes time and careful planning.

Drilling a new well isn't easy either though. Drilling rigs and equipment have limited availability and are often booked in advance. Acquiring new rigs or mobilizing existing ones to specific locations can take time. Additionally, drilling operations are complex and involve meticulous planning, site preparation, and adherence to safety protocols, all of which contribute to the timeline for increasing production.

Thus the conundrum of the current oil supply crisis. Existing infrastructure and wells must be simply utilized as quickly as possible.

Currently in the Al-Magreb there are three powers in focus, as the territory was divided between the Gothic Sea Pact powers in a way in which the Jysk-Austwegians split Hajr with the Holy Frankish Empire, and Al-Magreb was split between the Tarusans, Gutes, and Lethonia. The Tarusans ended up controlling a majority of Al-Magreb, while Gutarike which controls roughly 1/4th, and Lethonia, part of the Hansa, which controls roughly between 1/4th and 1/5th. The idea for the Günther Administration is to annex the remaining Gutnish part of the Magreb in this campaign against Gutnish piracy. This is a combination blow in which both pirates and oil crisis can be handled in tandem. Immediately, as of the publishing of this story, the Lethonians have already between to move into Gutnish held positions to seize oil fields, infrastructure, and attack any Gutnish forces that hold out.

This immediate maneuver is expected to be further condemned by CETO nations which have held a position against the Gothic Sea Pact's annexation of the Himyar region. Additionally, it is also possible the Ivanist Tarusan military positions in Magreb may choose to advance as well, but this could lead to immediate conflict on both the colonial and homefront, which Ivan might be wishing to avoid considering the current succession crisis.

The military maneuver will immediately be looked upon as a gamble. Should it prove successful, some of the world's oil supply will be secured, and it is possible that the Hanseatic Republics which exist in a grey-zone in regards to geopolitics between the Gothic Sea Pact and CETO maybe have their actions recognized. Although when asked on the question, the First Bürgermeister merely responded, "It is not important to the Hanseatics if reality is considered by the international community in the midst of the worst oil supply shock in memory." ✯

So long as Al-Magreb & Hajr are quartered and bled dry for the benefit of colonial powers these bursts of instability will continue. Anarcho-Protestants and despots thrive from this sort of division where once proud nations are divided into fourths and fifths. Nieveland will continue, perhaps fruitlessly, to support European Forum initiatives such as the White Helmets to respond to splinter events such as these.

Peace talks in Zahorie exclude Hanseatics and others
17. Juli 2023 | Lesezeit: 2 min

Tarusa's Civil War has sparked worries of conflict around the world, but the little nation of Zahorie believes it has the answer in the form of a peace conference with a very selective attendance list. So far the conference has high hopes as other nations look on helplessly.

From the panic caused by the mining of shipping lanes in the Gothic Sea and Bonaventura Bay, to the white helmets deployed outside of Csengia, and now the peace talks that open soon in Zahorie, the Tarusan War of Succession has not left open any space for rest. Bearing in mind that these events have all happened relatively close together in the span of about a month. The world is now looking at the latest event with a great deal of skepticism though, as this very exclusive meeting leaves little room for outsiders and a big focus on the more powerful forces in Germania.

The Zahorans, famed for their pilsner beers and cheap cars, the small principality of just under four million people are led by Prime Minister Barbara Bolava. She is a woman which has now potentially placed her Government on the line in the hope that this conference will yield some degree of success. Her efforts have placed Zahorie, which is generally accepted as a neutral country, in the crosshairs of the international press and foreign governments around the world which are none too happy about being snubbed from the gathering. Only the Tsars at war, Ebria, the Federation, Radilo, and the Rheinbund have been formally invited.

Naturally this has left Zahorie's northern neighbor, the Hanseatic Republics feeling a bit puzzled why they did not get an invitation considering the crisis in the Gothic Sea and the fact they are the only nation in attendance at the recent »Vallspakt« meeting actually bordering Tarusa. The list of supposed snubs is larger than attendees, with some legitimate controversy in whether or not the Touyouese nations in the Anti-State or Tianlong should be present, not to mention others like Pelasgia or Thaumantica. There as not been any public outrage, but privately it can be assured that the lack of attendees from many nations has drawn ire to the small principality.

The problem is not lost upon the new Foreign Office in the Hanseatics, an anonymous source stating, "our hopes are left in the Federation or Ebria not forgetting about us at the summit." Another saying, "the real question is that once the parties at Valls are separated, can they stay together at all?" There is a profound lack of trust between the many nations and this conference leaves open the chance for cracks in seams to become chasms. First Bürgermeister and President Katharina Günther remains in Valls for the time being and had little to comment on the issue, "our Hanseatic union is contact with Tarusa, and is in contact with the Federation and Ebria. There is nothing that this summit serves for the Hanseaten." Her analysis is either in terms of damage limitation, or an actual feeling of utility on the summit.

Ultimately the question is what can a peace hope to maintain? Asking this question to the same anonymous staff at the Foreign Office gives different answers. "Nothing can be achieved by this summit other than setting the rules in which the Tarusan War of Succession can expect outsiders to intervene. Apparently the global powers cannot draw these red lines themselves, so they require a tiny principality to draft this kind of deal themselves." This analysis is not so incorrect, but also perhaps suggests a certain lack of initiative on behalf of the Hanseatic Republics. Nothing prevents the Hanseatics from loudly demanding certain lines not be crossed. Most of the actions taken by the Tarusan participants largely fail to have any impact on the Succession War itself, and instead place burden upon foreign nations to clean up the mess left behind.

Therefore the Hanseatic Republics are left between two positions, one in which ire can be sent towards the Zahorans, or perhaps a glance in the mirror to ask what have they accomplished recently. The last question may be answered soon depending upon the public publishing of the results at Valls.✯

Federation approves 3 billion credits towards Hanseatic defense, domestic demands make allocating funds challenging
27. Januar 2024 | Lesezeit: 2 min

The Tarusan invasion of the Hanseatic Republics in late summer of 2023 resulted in a paradigm shift in thinking and action within the Union. Outrage directed at fellow Gallo-Germanian nations when abandoned at the lowest of times has informed a great deal of Hanseatic policy and tightened relations with the Federation. These close relations have further galvanized in more military cooperation and now further investment in Hanseatic defense.

It was a chilly day in late November that Lethonian and Federation military staff met near the hinterlands to discuss improvements needed to help with the future defense from any Tarusan thrust. The weather not withstanding, early snows made the lay of the land look different and compelled certain beliefs in infrastructure and bunker improvements. Although the meeting did not seem to gain much traction within the Hanseatics, the initiative from the Federation side took discussions to the next level as military shortcomings looked obvious to the Westermann planners.

This is largely because the Westermann see the problem from a different vantage point where they will struggle to put further boots on the ground where agreements with the Tarusans in peace created a future problem where Tarusan military assets can grow while the Federation's must stay the same. Thus the difference must be made up for by the Hanseatics, not just by the highly militarized Lethonians. To promote this, the Federation has now approved a 3 million credit funding plan for the Hanseatic Republics with the aim of making those proposed infrastructure and defense improvements a reality, while urging the Hanseatic Republics to modernize the common defense structures.

First Burgermeister and President Katharina Günther has met several times with military staff over the past three months looking for solutions to how the common defense can be improved. Currently, each member of the Union maintains its own Army and Air Force, while the Navy is collectively provided for due the to the nature of inheriting so much from the prior Scanlaw which required more flexible budgeting and provisioning. Simply put, it would have been too difficult and cost prohibitive to have one Republic provide for the entire naval defense. There is one exception, being Metsamaa which maintains all three of its own branches.

President Günther's last meeting with the collective military leaders of the various Republics in early January may have proved to be one that really gained some traction. It was in a cold icy night in Hammaborg, which has seen unusual amounts of snow, that kept leaders in conference later than they might otherwise have wanted as snow infrastructure is lacking at times in Hammaborg which is more accustomed to rain, despite its propensity to flood anyhow.

The great compromise struck seems to be an idea that a common Unionsheer or Union Army of which each Republic must contribute soldiers to, meanwhile the individual Republics could still maintain their own armies. The Unionsheer would be additionally be in control of the common Air Force as well, Luftstreitkräfte der Union. The basis of these forces would be provisional troop requirements from each Republic as well as joint funding requirements. The question has become now how to actually provision the required troop amounts and if that should be left up to the individual republics, or if there should be a Union standard of sorts.

Even still, while the President and the collective Army chiefs have come to some kind of agreement, the Hansatag must also come to agreement to establish these military combat services and they additionally would not be immediately operational. The Office for Katharina Günther has suggested it could take until 2025 to have it be fully operational.

In the meanwhile, these fresh new funds are also being asked for by every Republic to improve existing problems within their own militaries. New weapons, new transport vehicles, and new artillery is most desired from almost each Republic. Some Air Forces such as in Jena are demanding new drone systems which they feel would have been useful in their missions during the Three Weeks War. President Günther has tried to stress that such solutions must be done collectively, but these reassurances may fall on deaf ears. Ultimately the question on the use of the funds falls to the Hansatag and their desires may take a primary role in decision making if President Günther is unable to sway them. ✯
