Will MAYC Airline Consortium be forced to break up?
Redondo

Consular judges met in committee today to determine if the MCAV Consortium was an operating monopoly. The Consortium says it is a union of airlines which have a "common directorate". Camara member Jose Azevedo brought fourth an inquiry last year as MCAV (Madurja Companhia Aerea Vinhais) owns approximately 95% of regional airlines in Madurja and a large stake in the national airline Restauração. The inquiry was conducted over the past year and accepted by the Consular Court in October. Judges will spend the next several weeks of the new year deciding if MCAV poses a significant threat to competition under the monopoly laws.

Doctors warn of Encephalitis Lethargica Tempus

Colos

Doctors at Colos Medical Institute have warned that a new form of Encephalitis Lethargica has been discovered and had been occurring with frequency. The original sickness appears to be related to Parkinsons and causes a catatonic-like state for years or even decades. In some cases, death is a result. Doctors at the institute note the new form is far more temporary. "It can last from minutes to hours" says the Institute. More research is needed says the doctors but they are deeply concerned with the instances in which it has been found.

Camara upholds abortion ban by 14 votes
Redondo

On Friday, the fourth vote in the last decade on abortion has upheld a ban on abortions in Madurja. While abortions in the case of rape and when the mother's life are threatened have been legal since 1988, general abortions remain banned. The vote is the closest yet as public support for reform grows. Cardinal Alvares celebrated the vote, calling it a "victory for traditional Maduran values which are anchored in the Catholic faith". Protests over the last month in support of legalizing abortion have swept Maduran cities while counter-protests have seen far fewer numbers. "What we see is a real change in the perception of what Madurja can be" began an Orange Party spokesman. "It is a vital issue but a clear indicator that Madurja is ready to join the modern world. We can transform or remain tethered to the past" he said. The Camara, Madurja's legislature, will adjourn for Christmas break beginning on December 18th.

Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Asuntos Eclesiásticos

Esteemed colleagues and friends,

The government of the Confederation of Entre Rios wishes to congratulate the representatives of the people of Madurja and the members of the Camara for upholding the right to live and defending the dignity of unborn children and their to be mothers.

The Civic Process fights daily to protect human dignity and the health of mothers and their babies and with this fights against such foul practices, which are nothing more and nothing less than state sponsored murder, a vicious consequence of the dehumanisation that comes with the process of liberalism.

We hope that the Camara and the Orange Party will remain steadfast in this war against human spirit and they cement their beliefs by furthering the resistance against such indignities. The Confederation of Entre Rios, together with the Tiburan Catholic Church and probably the Vaquero Free State, Tapenaga and the whole North Tiburan Empire stand beside you and are ready to support you in defending your natural and traditional values and the respect and dignity for human life that Jesus himself thought us.

Signed and sealed,
Mateo Costa y Galan
Minister of Foreign Relations and Ecclesiastical Affairs

Camara Speaker Eca Lopes dies
Redondo
You must be registered for see images

Eca Lopes, Camara member since 1981 and Speaker since 2015, has died at age 84 at his home outside Redondo. Known as a charismatic member, Lopes was a giant in Maduran politics and was the one of the key drivers of the dissolution of the monarchy. His 29 year career spanned three party memberships and the sponsorship, authoring, and passing of countless bills. Lopes is best remember for his intervention in the Sojz Crisis and his crusade for women's equality. While Lopes does not qualify for a State Funeral, a State Mass is expected to be held this weekend in Redondo.

Madurja to end conscription after 2022
Redondo

Madurja will cease conscription after the year 2022. The Military Reform Structure of 2005 created a 20 year plan to modernize part of Madurja's military forces. Part of that plan was the ultimate transition to a much smaller and fully professional force. Despite frequent changes in the military budget, the plan will trim the Maduran military down to between 40,000 and 50,000 active personnel and less than 2,000 reservists (primarily support staff such as clergy, dentists, musicians) by 2028. The plan was hailed by both conservatives and liberals upon its adoption in 2005 and has been a largely successful transition. The navy plans to retire most of its surface vessels by 2030 while the air force is planning no changes in strength. The debate to abandon conscription has been ongoing despite the plan's 2005 popularity.

The Ulkoministeriö of the Commonwealth of Pohjanmaa wishes to submit its formal condolences in regards the death of Camara Speaker Eca Lopes. His work ending the monarchy and advocating for the rights of women are inspirational stories for any person around the world.

Our ambassador Eveliina Rinne will be in attendance at the State Mass for this titan of Madurjan democracy. It is our hope that in death his long shadow can only serve as an example for the future leaders of Madurja.

Consul Dimasio to visit Serenierre
Redondo

Consul Dimasio has announced that he will accept the Serenierre's invitation to meet in Villesen to discuss regional cooperation and bilateral ties. Though the invitation was extended to Maduran legislators, the Consul noted that the Camara has little say in Madurja's foreign affairs under the constitution and that he believes the invitation was a courtesy. However, Dimasio went on to note that he will bring members of the Camara as part of the delegation. The Counsul noted previous agreements and collaboration with Serenierre on international issues and noted the positive relationship between the countries despite their political polarity.

First of 5 off-shore wind farms planned for 2020 begins construction

Redondo

Off of Madurja's East coast, a transformation has begun as the first of 5 off-shore wind farms begins its construction. The Energy Minister noted that construction of the first wind farm will take several months as the season is "not advantageous to nautical construction". The construction of wind farms has remained a priority of the Dimasio government for several years. However, delays have repeatedly pushed back construction. Many opposed the move as there was an argument that jobs in Madurja's natural gas industry would be under threat. In response, Dimasio has pledged to increase exports over the next 2 years and to offer incentives for the gas industry after the 2 year period.

First school nutritional standards to be introduced for 2021

The Ministry of Education and Camara have created new standards for publicly run schools in Madurja. While the new standards will not specifically detail menu items, caloric intake and sugar will have specific targets. The standards will enforce the new guidelines starting in January of 2021 and will restrict sugar intake on a weekly basis. The standards were to be applied to parochial schools originally, however resistance in the Camara has resulted in the application to only public schools.

Madurja inks deal to buy used tanks from Pelasgia

With the upcoming transition from a conscript army to a professional one, Maduran military leaders are looking to the future and have agreed to purchase 100 Type 24 Main Battle Tanks. The current inventory of tanks is largely comprised of tanks purchased in the late 1970's. Despite major upgrade programs in the mid 1990's and mid 2000's, the Defense Minister acknowledged that Maduran procurement has been "woefully inadequate".

Parochial schools come under fire
Redondo

A heated exchange between conservatives and liberals took over the Camara today as the legislature debated the amount of public funding directed at parochial schools in Madurja. Approximately 30% of primary schools (grades 1-7) are parochial in nature. Of those, nearly 95% are Tiburan Catholic in nature. Liberals have accused the right of blocking debate on the issue. "Approximately 9% of the total education budget goes to these schools with no direction or oversight on how it is spent" said a Camara member who spoke with O Globo and wished to remain anonymous. The debate is expected to dominate discussion tomorrow as the session was adjourned due to "Unparliamentary and unruly chamber procedure". Despite being one of the most religious nations in terms of practicing citizens, many have pushed back in recent years on the amount of public funding directed to religious entities.

Major police operation tracks illegal arms entering from Auraria

Police on Sunday tracked an illegal arms shipment of rifles which entered Madurja's northern region via the AurJA Express Highway. Police have stated that some 30 military rifles were tracked and were intercepted 15 miles south of the border. Investigators believe the shipment was intended for a "criminal organization. Maduran and Aurarian police are currently working together to further investigate. Police have seized several shipments in 2019 but this is the first from Auraria.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT
The Aurarine Republic congratulates law enforcement services in the Madurjan Republic for their success operation to stop the spread of illegal guns across international borders. The work of these officers will undoubtedly result in saved lives and continued peace.

It is critical that our two countries continue to collaborate in meaningful ways to ensure that illegal fire arms, those who supply them, and those who purchase them, are brought to justice and that this trafficking ends quickly and safely.

Madurja to mull raising retirement age
Redondo

The Maduran government is set to consider raising the retirement age from 53 to 60 this week. Thousands protested the discussion on Monday with mass protests expected on Friday and throughout the weekend. The government has stated that the current retirement age is "not tenable in the current era of pensions. Companies and local governments are being bled dry". Critics argue that the leap will seriously harm the workforce and significantly impact the medical infrastructure of Madurja. There has been no indication as of Thursday of which route the government will take. Many are expecting a compromise. However, many unions have stated that any raise in retirement age will spark walk outs.

Ship collision blocks Cartaxo port
Cartaxo

A Johnston Isles flagged ship collided with a Maduran tanker today in the primary shipping channel in the Port of Cartaxo. The empty tanker, is partially submerged. 6 crewmen total were injured. The investigation is set to begin Monday and salvage experts and the Maduran Life Saving Service (formerly Royal Coastal Force) are on scene to attempt to re-float the Maduran ship. Officials refused to release the names of the ships. However, the tanker is reportedly owned by Maduran Petroleum Concern. The ships have blocked the primary channel since around noon and experts promise to have the channel open by Thursday- leaving numerous ships waiting to enter the port and dock as the secondary lane can handle only a few vessels. In 2006, Cartaxo was the 7th busiest port in terms of tonnage in the world. However, it has fallen in recent years to 13th.

Report: Madurja to break up MCAV Airline Consortium

National Carrier Restauração Airlines is to be separated from the MCAV Airline Consortium by June 1 according to reports that on Tuesday, Consular Courts will find that MCAV is operating as a monopoly. The decision, debated for months, is set to force the national carrier to establish itself as independent and force MCAV to sell one regional airline. MCAV is reportedly set to appeal the decision.

Consul Dimasio under intense political pressure. Some requesting recall vote
Redondo

Consul Dimasio is facing what one anonymous source has called "extreme political pressure". The pressure has stemmed from his refusal to pass any laws which outlaw homosexual marriage. Additionally, many on the left have noted he will not legalize homosexual marriage. Instead, Dimasio is standing by his "status quo" approach. Another issue that the Consul is facing is the current negotiations with neighboring nations on a mutual defense pact and possible league or union. Many in the nation's legislature, the Camara, have spoken out against Dimasio's actions- warning that such an agreement will put Madurja in a difficult international situation. Some members have even publicly called for a recall vote. As the pressure mounts on these topics, Dimasio also faces a stagnant economy which shrank by 120 Billion Escudi last year. Despite removing many business obstacles, the nation has failed to attract a large number of employers. The ruling Conservative Party has noted that it is examining all options to work with other parties. In a statement Monarchy Madurja, the monarchist party, stated that "partisan politics are once again threatening Madurja's fabric". Consul Dimasio is expected to speak to the Camara sometime this month.

A talk with Consul Jao Dimasio
Redondo

Consul Dimasio conducted a Cype interview with O Globo reporter Carmona Gutteres on Friday to discuss his plans for Madurja, the future of his time in office, and the issues facing Madurja. O Globo has provided this trascript for those without access to the video on .

Gutteres: Thank you for visiting with me Consul, I know you are quite busy

Consul Dimasio: Of course. Thank you for the invitation to speak frankly.

Gutteres: So, without wasting your time, allow me to begin. Your party, the Conservative Party, has dominated Maduran politics since 2000. Your party seems to be under enormous pressure for the upcoming election. Why has your party started to struggle after 20 years of success?

Consul Dimasio: I think it is important to note that our projections show the party still winning the election handily. We will likely lose several seats. However, the Conservative Party still best represents the values of the Maduran people. Now uh, as to why we are facing more opposition than ever before. I will admit. We have failed to deliver on promises. However, we are still working towards that deliverance. We have frankly failed to meet the high standard we have set for ourselves.

Gutteres: Meaning?

Consul Dimasio: Look, there are a thousand ways to spin this. Or paint a pretty picture. Let us be transparent. We set unrealistic goals for ourselves in the last two elections. The Orange Party and others have far more unrealistic goals. We are the best option for Madurja to continue transforming back toward a dynamic and successful economy as well to uphold the moral values we stand by.

Gutteres: Some have said that 15 years in power should be enough. Many think you should relinquish your office should your party win in the upcoming election. How do respond to that and what is the future of the Conservative Party?

Dimasio: I will tackle the second question first....if that is ok. I think there needs to be a clear delineation for our party. The Conservative Party is the most adept to meeting the needs of Maduran citizens. It has a lot of potential in the form of younger members and politicians. The future is rather bright. Now, I have not decided if I will seek another Consulship if my party wins the election. Frankly, a lot of discussions need to happen with family and the party. Neither have taken place.

Gutteres: You have not discussed this with the party?

Dimasio: Not in definitive terms. That discussion will happen soon. For now, my focus is elsewhere.

Gutteres: Madurja recently has been invited to join a regional cooperative in terms of tariff-free trade and defense. A lot of Madurans are standing against such a move. Why does Madurja stand to benefit from such an agreement.

Dimasio: It is vital to understand that Madurja sees this as a process. Madurja, first and foremost, has an obligation to hear out our regional partners. Second, we have an obligation to respond to their ideas. Nothing has been decided yet. I have brought my concerns to the table and they were well received. Madurja's economy would certainly benefit from an economic zone agreement. The question would be- by how much? It is a simple weighing of a cost-benefit analysis.

Gutteres: And on defense?

Dimasio: There is a building tension in the world. Tribalism could drive wedges between key nations, friends, and even allies. It is not simple ideology. Some of it is. The other part is simply the question of power. Madurja has a unique position. We are at the entrance to the Long Sea. This makes Madurja a particularly important place economically speaking and from a military standpoint. We need to ask ourselves 'do we face clear and fatal threats?'.

Gutteres: Do we?

Dimasio: I think many nations do. It is all perspective. We stay out of the way of other nations as much as possible. We offer ourselves as peacekeepers, negotiators, and mediators. The question of how long this can last in a very quickly changing world........well, it is a real question. One we must face and discuss.

Gutteres: Who are these threads from?

Dimasio: I think it unwise to go down such a road. There are nations who wish to spread their ideology by means of force. Or rather, spread their ideology at the ultimate cost. These ideologies and imperialistic behaviors clash with Madurja's values.

Gutteres: So....are we talking about Kadikistan? Post-Delegationists?

Dimasio: Look. Kadikistan and Madurja do not see eye-to-eye on most things. That does not mean that Madurja and our friends in Ivar do not have any common interests. Our nations are global partners as far as I am concerned. We may not agree with them, but I do not appreciate this baiting. Post-Delegationist nations are also friends to Madurja. We are partners in many ways. We again do not see eye-to-eye with them on many things. We are world partners. Just as we are with Kadikistan. Maybe 10 years from now this will not be the case. I do not know the future. I do know that yesterday and today and tomorrow we will still be friends.

Gutteres: So, from who does this threat originate?

Dimasio: Which threat?

Gutteres: The fatal threat to Madurja.

Dimasio: I never said Madurja is under any real threat and especially not a fatal one. We are listening to our regional partners and friends and hearing their concerns. The proposed defensive agreement is that- a defensive one. We have made no decisions and are far from any.

Gutteres: Lets turn to the debate on gay marriage. Recently you took a lot of criticism from your own party and others by refusing to make any move in favor of or against gay marriage. Some have accused Madurja of violating basic human rights. Why have you chosen not to take action?

Dimasio: I do not think action is needed. The current status quo is fine as I see it. Discrimination against homosexuals remains strongly against the law. We, the government, have a responsibility to best reflect the values of our nation. We remain a very Catholic nation. Simply put, if the people are divided on the issue. The legislature is divided on the issue. Who am I to make such a sweeping decision? If it is a question of leadership; I would respond that I first must find a consensus and take the bottom line. Applying leadership to such things is what the Consulship is for.

Gutteres: Well thank you for your time, Consul.

Dimasio: It was a pleasure.

Dimasio hotmic: oof

Saturday session of the Camara schedules surprise No Confidence for Consul Dimasio.
Redondo

The national legislature has scheduled a Vote of Confidence for Monday. The surprise move came during a special Saturday session of the Camara. The move has taken many aback as the Consul has held his position for nearly 15 years. Many see the surprise vote as an attempt to revitalize the Conservative Party which is facing heightened opposition in the coming election. If the vote passes, Dimasio will be the first Consul ever removed from the position since the dissolution of the constitutional monarchy. Many, including Conservative Party members, have openly called the move a blunder. The Saturday session was initially a setting for minor housekeeping- including voting in of transcripts and affirmation of party membership. These sessions customarily do not include any policy or procedure making. However, no rule specifically bans the action. Many Madurans remain opposed to recent actions of Dimasio to bring the nation closer to a regional alliance or league.

Many claim Dimasio has failed to meet promises or has exaggerated the Conservative Party's abilities to revamp the economy. Despite a bustling tourism sector and growing energy sector, many areas of the economy have remained stagnant. "We are seeing slow growth. The last 20 years have been the slowest for industrial growth since 1900. Madurja is falling behind in key areas" said Antonio Amarante, Professor of Economics at Cartaxo University. "We have seen only growth in two or three areas rather than widespread elevation" Amarante continued. "The question will remain if a dramatic change in direction and leadership will be sufficient or if Madurja will remain in economic decline".

Many expect the Conservative Party to again retain leadership of the government. However, the Orange Party has surged in popularity since 2015 and is expected to win 30-35 Camara seats. "The Orange Party is the only party that can fix the mistakes of the Conservative Party who have spent the past 10 years flattening growth and growing economic inequality" said Orange Party leader Teresea Zacuto.

Madurja to make ports available to foreign naval exercise
Redondo

Following the announcement by the Navy of Pohjanmaa and the Continental Navy to conduct freedom of navigation exercises in the Long Sea, Madurja has announced that several ports will be made available to the naval forces. The government has stated that it expects the forces to abide by customary maritime laws but also stated that it will almost surely not be an issue. The government stated that it viewed the move positively- citing its own operations to ensure Long Sea security and freedom. Some opponents have called the move "insensitive" and have noted that such action will result in a negative response from Long Sea partners. Madurja has increased Long Sea patrols over the past several years and has additionally provided a sizable contribution to regional maritime search and rescue operations.

The Continental Republic of Sylvania wishes to thank the Madurjan people for opening their ports to our ships operating in the Long Sea. Consul Dimasio out as Consul
Redondo

In an overwhelming vote, Jao Dimasio has been removed from office- effective Thursday at noon. The surprise vote of no confidence shocked many in the public and media. Dimasio, Consul for nearly 15 years, has recently been criticized for entertaining the possibility of joining a Gallian Union. Several key Camara members rallied opposition to the move. Now, as the Conservative Party faces a tough election, Dimasio has been seen as a liability rather than a form of stability. Mystery swirls over who will be the new leader as the Conservative Party leadership meets behind closed doors. Consul Dimasio says he will comment on the vote when he leaves office on Thursday.

There seem few front runners for the position in the Conservative Party which only recently replaced much of its leadership. Many believe the choice will be Alfonso Spinola. Despite being 79, Spinola has remained popular among the party and has been seen as a model of traditional Maduran values. However, many of the newer leadership seems opposed to Spinola taking over the position. The announcement is expected sometime tomorrow.

Assistant Interior Minister Judite Teixeira chosen as next Consul. To be sworn in Saturday.

You must be registered for see images

Few expected Conservative Party Minister Judite Teixeira to be chosen as the next Consul. The 45 year old Minister, hailing from Almancil, is to be the first female Consul in Madurja's history. Known to be a Conservative Party hardliner, Teixeira is expected to bolster Conservative Party voting turnout and to reinforce the Party's narrative. Many have accused her of "blatant and dangerous nationalism". Teixeira will be sworn in during a special Camara session Saturday and will officially take office Sunday morning at 9:00. Consul Dimasio will be given until Sunday to complete transition duties as well as to prepare his final acts as Consul. The selection seemed to unite the Conservative Party, signifying that the party truly saw Dimasio's term to be at an end. Before entering politics, Teixeira practiced international law as an attorney, specializing in health law. Teixeira received her undergraduate education in Auraria with a degree in economics before attending law school at Cartaxo University.
