Not at 30 RP posts yet but very close so I decided to submit a formal application for a map position.

1. What is the name of your Nation-State, Colony or Expansion?
Eserland

2. What is the year of your foundation, recognition or colonization?
1494 as the Kingdom of Eserland; 1889 as the Eserian Republic; 1927 as the United Provinces of Eserland

3. Who are the leaders of this application? (≈100 words)
Eserland is a federal presidential republic so the HoG/HoS is the President, currently Patrick Macony of the FDP. VP is Estera Portell (also FDP).
Legislative Branch is the Federal Assembly; Leaders are Speaker Roseanne Harting in Popular Assembly and Council President John Argois in Federal Council.
Ruling party: Currently the FDP, but the AEU controls the Federal Council.

4. Please outline the general history of your application: (500 - 600 words)
Was formed by the union of the Kingdoms of Brenna and Lussex in 1494 before going through a period of expansion in the 16th century that saw it conquer almost all of its immediate neighbors as well as the Frankish Kingdom of Varlais. Faced various uprisings in Varlais through the 17th and 18th centuries before it was assimilated when Eserian was enforced as the primary language of education in 19th century. Also conquered the neighboring Kingdom of Gascara in 1794, bringing in a population more culturally akin to the Catamarcans of Auraria than the Frezians. 19th century saw industrialization and a period of liberal reform before that was reversed under the rule the authoritarian King Jacob V in the 1880s. Discontent with his rule led to a revolution that turned Eserland into a unitary parliamentary republic. A period of instability and discontent caused by such centralized rule followed (known as the "Troubled Years") that culminated in the assassination of a PM that was trying to give Gascara more autonomy by a Frezian supremacist. This led Eserland to become a federal presidential republic, which it continues to be to this day, as well as restore stability to the nation.

5. Consider the cultural implications of your application. What does your application bring to the world? Are there other nations of similar culture? • How do you differentiate, or if you are unique, how so?: (200 - 300 words)
It is dominated by an Anglo ethnic group (the Frezians) that is similar to the Engells although it is unique due to its ethnic and cultural diversity which has Franks (Varlesians), Catalans (Gascarans), and what amounts to Welsh (Wynnes) all under one roof as well as some Germans (Tysks). There is no RL analogy to it, I imagine it as some weird amalgamation of Spain, Britain, Germany, and France with the British part dominant culturally and the government more like Germany.

6. How else might this application help RP or contribute to the community? (100 - 200 words)
Adds a liberal democratic republic to a region of Gallia dominated by monarchies and socialist republics, also possibly helps explain any cultural links between Engellex and Gunnland.

Madaray (Madyaraya, though its native name, is also formally used in English)

2. What is the year of your foundation, recognition or colonization?
The territories known as Madaray have been partially under control of both the Azraqi Empire and the Eternal Empire, having gained independence in 1880, with the last territory returned to Madaray in 1954 - see factbook.

3. Who are the leaders of this application? (≈100 words)
Madaray is a constitutional parliamentary democracy and unitary state, with a devolved system of government - including some mixed forms of government on the sub-national level. As a result these entities within Madaray, known as the Regencies, may have hereditary or democratically elected rulers. The head of state, known as the Yang di-Pertuan Agung (literally "He Who is Made Lord") is elected every seven years among these rulers. Current Yang di-Pertuan Agung is Sri Bataranggung of the Mrigalaya Regency.

4. Please outline the general history of your application: (500 - 600 words) - still in the making of course
From the second century BCE onwards the region was heavily influenced by Indian culture and Hindu religion, which spread across the Madaraya Islands through various waves and blended with local animist traditions - which today is known as Hanghal Hinduism. In the first century CE Buddhism arose in today's northern border regions, which gradually spread across eastern Toyou and in most Madaraya areas replaced or even complemented Hanghal Hinduism. Up until the 10th century these Hindu-Buddhist naval kingdoms vied for control in the region. The archipelago and coast regions, with its natural harbours, were ideal for interregional trade throughout history. Also during this period, the Dawamali city states (preceding the Azraqi Empire) had holdfasts in the western part of the archipelago.

During the 10th and 12th centuries the various naval kingdoms came to together under a
system, a period henceforth known as the 'Sister States' or 'Sibling States'. Under a rather confederal model Madaray became a unified thalassocracy. Unified in the sense that it shared religious, cultural and commercial interests which brought forth intense coöperation among these states. During the 13th and 15th century this league gradually evolved into the first 'Kingdom of the Middle Islands' - a multi-ethnic and multi-confessional realm ruled by a Great King (Maharaja or Mahapribhu). By the 15th-16th century this Middle Kingdom no longer had the strong leadership necessary to preserve its integrity and independence.

From the late 17th century up until the late 19th century, Madaray thus fell prey to various foreign powers and colonial enterprises as the region again lacked a strong central organisation. Islamic and Azraqi influence on its western shores increased while the Eternal Empire exercised control in the eastern regions, Gallo-Germanic nations and trade companies forced remaining states to sign disadvantageous agreements and set up
. The remaining independent Madyaraya was basically not more than a mere buffer state between colonial superpowers and for a brief period became a protectorate of the Eternal Empire nonetheless.

During the decolonisation period of the late 19th and early 20th century, Madaray's status as a protectorate is lifted; becoming a free and independent nation. Many former states and concessions are gradually returned to Madaray during the early twentieth century - a period known as the Reformation. Not all territories that historically have been part of the 'Middle Realm' are today part of Madaray, and many of these even no longer have Madaraya peoples as a majority.

Madaray is a multi-ethnic and multi-confessional island nation (aside its peninsular region of course). The three largest ethnicities - and languages - are Hanghali (Balinese), Klawangal (Javanese) and Bangsal (Malay). Lesser minorities include the Kadashi people and diverse groups of Touzense descent. The dominant religion is Navibhuyana ("renewed vehicle") Buddhism, followed by Hanghal Hinduism, Golden Path and Islam (predominantly near the Azraqi Spice Isles). So in terms of culture and politics: imagine a Malaysia or Indonesia which remained much Indianised - and not necessarily islamised. With a strong hint of Buddhism, so it may have some cultural traits/impressions of Myanmar or Thailand.

So far it's rather 'unique' to our current world.

6. How else might this application help RP or contribute to the community? (100 - 200 words)
Basically, it's a true Austronesian nation: much resembling Southeast-Asia (Java, Bali, the Malay world (Nusantara) - with a "Buddhist Bali" forming the majority). It could form a keystone nation in the region, especially as a building block for Toyou - further Asian nations/expansions. Mompracem is a nation in its vicinity, links and history with both the Anti-State and Arzaq are possible; and could also provide colonial storylines for Gallo-Germanic nations. Projects such as are possible thanks to a Austronesian nation such as Madaray.

1961 - This was the year the Anti-State intervened in the civil war and froze the conflict between north and south.

3. Who are the leaders of this application? (≈100 words)
The leader of Dai Minh is Chairman Ngo Ngang Kim Dieu, often simply called Kim Dieu or Chairman No. Kim Dieu is an authoritarian despot with absolute control over his nation, and the military swears an oath of personal fealty to him before doing so to the Party, and then to the Nation. The leader of Minh Hai is Director Quyen Kiet An Son, known either as Director Quyen, or personally as Kiet. Kiet presides over a semi-authoritarian, post-Delegationist Republic, with emergency powers bestowed upon him and the capacity to dissolve the National Assembly. The nation is, for the most part, an otherwise democratic, modern society.

This word vomit is in need of some heavy smithing after finalizing it out with Xen, but here's the basics:

Ancient times, northern Minh was a tributary of Jizhou, but broke away during a dynastic succession crisis, and three independent Kingdoms were in the area, as well as other tribes, including people like Hmong and what not. Three Kingdoms clash back and forth, conquer each other and usurp each other over the years, until being conquered by the Eternal Empire in the 12th century. In the 18-19th century, Auraria who is at war with the Eternal Empire, launches a few raids against Dai Minh, possibly capturing it during the Eternal Empire's weakening phases. Strong sense of identity begins to build in opposition to foreign aggression and failure of Eternal Empire to rise to the defense. Independence wars and anarcho-communist attacks on the Empire's officials cause chaos, and as part of the Young Touyou Movement, Minh breaks away from the Eternal Empire. All does not end well, though, the fledgling Revolutionary Minh's pan-Red and Black rainbow coalition immediately falters as Statist communists come into conflict with post-Delegationist autonomists. The fragile stateless society lasts about 5 years before collapsing, when Marxists organized militias and began to form centralized, hierarchical government, in large part due to a collapse in the gift economy set up by the autonomists due to lack of medical goods and foods during famine and disease. The autonomist collectives form volunteer brigades and push back the Marxists, but the poor level of infrastructure in the region, caused by dense jungle, means that the fighting is intermittent and the Marxist society is able to effectively establish itself, claiming sovereignty over the entire region, as the stateless society refused to do. Some years pass, intermittent war, and the Anti-State has established itself as a serious (stateless) entity with serious military potential, and moves to assist the northern region. The Directorate is established to coordinate the efforts of various independent brigades under the leadership of a Touzen official, and the offensive is on. The war grinds through the jungle for the better part of 8 years before the voluntary soldier associations begin to question the costs and needs of the war, and Touzen largely withdraws from the conflict, Minhizing the conflict as it were. The Directorate loses ground over the course of the next decade, particularly with the rise of Kadikistan in 1955. Arms and volunteers flood in and the Anti-State, fearing an expansion of Kadiki influence, gets involved yet again. Not wanting to risk open conflict, or get embroiled in an unwinnable war, the Anti-State enforces the a ceasefire between the two groups, dividing the country between North and South. Finally, the capital of Anh Kinh, located within Minh Hai, is itself divided in an East/West Berlin situation, with Dai Minh possessing a portion of the city. You are free to name it Ankin.

I feel I have more to add to question #6 and don't want to discuss culture too much for running the risk of stereotyping. Culturally, I do not believe we have had a Vietnamese nation on the forum. I did not want to fall into stereotyping the Vietnamese as impoverished jungle fighters, and so the division is intended to represent a Korean situation, where neither failure nor success by can be inferred as a characteristic of Vietnamese people. The idea to locate it on the West side will also continue to connect the Kadashi culture I created to the Long Sea, ideally as a mountain folk minority similar to the Hmong.

6. How else might this application help RP or contribute to the community? (100 - 200 words)
First, it brings a dual nation concept divided between two major ideological groups to the forum. These groups have always been theoretically at contest, but a lack of interaction has failed to cement that. I hope to bridge the gap, creating a scenario both to allow tensions to exist and yet also prevent open conflict between two "long term builders."
Second, this adds a potential adversary to the Long Sea; not in that there is an intention to destabilize the region per se, but that there are two new elements in the region that can be used as locus' for RP.
Third, introducing the DMH will bring a wealthy nation to a region typically considered peripheral, poor, or otherwise unimportant. The existence of it will, hopefully, help connect the Anti-State Gallo-Germania and Himyar in a similar way Kashtan was intended to, perhaps more by sea, and more by economics than politics.

I have not included city locations, just names. I trust your location judgement.

I just want to note that neither application can be mapped until they are given approval by Xen as per rules state due to their geography. I understand both of you have threads in progress and so it would seem you guys are working on it. I just want to make it clear that if the map were released tomorrow (it won’t) they wouldn’t be mapped in their current state.

Keep working on your histories and make sure to have an open dialogue with the necessary actors/players in order to get your projects mapped! You will need to conform to Touyou’s pre-existing history in order to be mapped. Also be aware that if discussions fall apart due to any irreconcilable differences, the due to the nature of the region you cannot start RP and will not be mapped. (I’ve noticed some RP posts, which should not be happening because unlike other regions, in theory we don’t know if you will be mapped) Thanks!

Think it is BS that they have to wait for Xen to RP at all, they have their own lives and jobs etc why should they work around Xen's? Far I am aware no one has to wait for someone's approval to RP in any other spots. I don't see the problem of them posting RP if Xen doesn't like it he call it non-cannon. No skin off his back it be other players wasting time posting.

Ah, I see. I had no idea Toyou was still (semi) off-limits. Apologies in that case.. I will further work on shaping Madaray, with much regard of the existing canon. Let an evaluation of our projects be fair and transparent, is all I can say. Like Dalriada states, even if we can only develop the country (write a factbook, OOC threads etc.) it is still a time investment. =) But thanks for the heads-up.

The head of state is King Manfred III von Eschenbach (renamed the old Paavo III of Virumaa) but he is only a symbolic ruler, not having any significant power other than being a personification of the state and its sovereignty. The head of government and the most powerful man in the country is the Chancellor, Michael Roth (renamed the old Koit Sokk of Virumaa). He is currently the leader of the centre-right Landespartei, ruling in coalition with the agrarian party known as the Turnip League. While he became Chancellor only two years ago, he has been seen as being extremely influential in the previous administration too.

The land of the Varinians, part of Vaalbara was originally inhabited by Yugrans (the old Virunians) but pushed by the migrating Gunns, the Varinians, a germanic people settle on the northern banks of the Gothic Sea in south Vaalbara. They christianise in the 7th century and by the 9th century, Viking activity is observed with the first urban centres build by them on the coast. The Varinians manage to defeat the Vikings and then push north, by the late 15th century managing to push the Yugrans away too. Following up is a series of conflicts for about two centuries both religious and dynastic as Varinia becomes one of the centres for reformation, but the strong influence of the Tiburan Catholic Church extinguishes it. In 1703 the first Varinian parliament opens up and begins a tradition of guided liberalisation, enough to keep the bourgeoisie, merchants and artisans happy, while also not allowing too much power slip from the king and the nobility. In the 20th century, the country is rocked by crises, as Prometheism, a radical socialist ideology becomes extremely popular and the nation ends up in a cold war with Kadikistan over the Gothic Sea, in Milesia and Calidia. The economy collapse that follows pushes the influence of the MLists in Varinia and they declare a People's Republic, which after 2 years is brought down by continuous revolts, rebellions and the signing of a SQT between the whites and the Kadikistani. From 1957 to 1985 Varinia is ruled by the National Syndicalists, a nationalist, corporatist and clerical fascist movement, and intervenes in trying to extinguish the Post-Delegationist revolution in Pohjanmaa and the socialist one in Dalriada, failing in both. After 1985, the nation liberalises again returning to multi-party democracy. MORE INFO .

I played Virumaa as estonians for quite some time, about 6 years and had an episode of Varinia as a Gothic nation. While playing a Gothic culture could be interesting in literally reviving the Eastern Germanic language group and everything, finding names, creating surnames, and playing around with limited dictionaries is actually quite tiresome. Probably in this form of Varinia, while I may be using High German names here and there, I want to base it quite a lot on the Low German Transyvlanian Saxon dialect and culture. Many of them did use high german, especially in administration, so again stuff might be hard to come by, but I would say it can be interesting.

6. How else might this application help RP or contribute to the community? (100 - 200 words)
Bring Vaalbara to life while having a German nation that isn't a liberal paradise like Eiffelland, but neither the overly conservative and traditionalist Elben. With the Yugran substratum it would still keep most of the history of the Yamalians and Calidians alive with no issue.

Sopra Terra Remurorum volat aquila legionum. Legio aeterno, aeterno victrix. So it's been a while since it was founded and I prefer to avoid setting up a concrete date.
We can settle 1860s as the date the modern Federal Constitution was introduced, which has served as the basis for the country since then.

3. Who are the leaders of this application? (≈100 words)
The Head of State and Government is the Grand Duke (Magnus Dux) or Grand Duchess (Magna Ducessa). In modern days, the Magnus Dux is actually akin to a President in a republic and is elected for five years by a college of Electors after national primaries.
The current Magna Ducessa is Anastasia di Scoppeliti, who is finishing her first term of service and the first RP posts I plan to make is a storyline describing some aspects of the process.

Oh boy.
The exact and general history of the nation is not yet set in stone and subject to change. What matters, however, is that overall the general concept in modern times cannot be impacted by what was in the past.
Remuria used to be a somewhat Greek-cultured little corner of paradise before the Tiburan barbarians invaded with a civilization mission conquering the world.
The Tiburan barbarians then turned into the new pinnacle of civilization. Remuria was part of the Terra Remuriana of the Tiburan Empire since then.
When jolly Germanian barbarians strolled into Tibur, burning it down and collapsing the Tiburan Empire, Remurian provinces were pretty much left with their bureaucracy intact, but no capital to report to. So the local Dux decided they were now the power.
After some hundreds of years of internal warfare, external warfare, much plotting, numerous negotiations, the various Dukes joined together in the first shape of the Res Publica, deciding to hold a regular Gauntlet among themselves or a representative appointed by them (from their own house) to become the Grand Duke of Remuria. Back then, the title was for life and the country was an elective monarchy.
Since then the history is somewhat faded, but eventually the Res Publica survived to the modern times, when the title of Magnus Dux was made limited in time and akin to a President, most likely because of the influence from nearby Aurarians, to be confirmed.

As described in the nation brainstorming thread, the country is somewhat of a cultural bridge across the numerous other cultures around. So while similar to neighbours, the country is unique in its own way. It is clearly a Tiburan, so an Italian cultured country in its majority. But I see the locals as actually italianised Greeks, thus maybe giving a bridge to Pelasgia and his own Greeks. Additionally, French-speakers in the south would have a relationship to the Petits-Pays, something left to work out, but they as well are a bridge for a southern arc of seafaring Frenchmen in Retalia, Remuria and Petits-Pays. Finally, there is a cultural continuity from Auraria into Remuria in the shape of the Arandian culture, which I can see as well as a Basque equivalent straddling two sides of a border.

6. How else might this application help RP or contribute to the community? (100 - 200 words)
As stated, I see Remuria as being a sort of a bridge filling maybe some cultural and historic gaps in Gallo-Germania and consolidating the already existing lore and countries into an even better continuum. The whole idea is to create something both unique, yet similar to what already exists. To not upset the established order, but instead bring additional value to it.

Almost a thousand years ago, adventurers from the north sailed down from northwest Gallo-Germania to the northwest coast of Himyar, conquered the locals, and established themselves as overlords. Even in those early days, there was no king and their collective rule evolved into the democracy as it exists today.

The adventurers, satiated with their new lands, looked no further abroad and instead focused on being good stewards of productive lands and happy subjects. So their foreign policy is conservative and non-interventionalist. But they also never forgot how they came by their country in the first place. And they also have a powerful neighbor to the east. So they have always had a strong national defense, with the emphasis on defense.

This is a cosmopolitan, uni-ethnic, uni-religious, English-speaking culture. Stability is the name of the game.

I would like to ask that Pelasgian Southern Himyar be renamed to "South Himyar," given its recent grant of Home Rule from Propontis as an independent dominion.

Nothing else needs to change on its map spot, and I would appreciate it if its colour could be kept the same as Pelasgia's. I will continue to RP South Himyar as a puppet.

As Congress Aresura is a de jure Provisional Paternal Presidental Socialist Republic but de facto a Military Junta. The Overseer-Colonel Iōséph Konstantinos is the de facto leader of Congress Aresura.

???-1500s: Stuff happens!

1500s: modern Aresuroi coasts "discovered" by Gallo-Germanics. Early attempts to colonize fail due to unusually vicious resistance by the natives.

1699: The three main islands of Lazikia, Morea, and Perateia (from northwest to southeast) are successfully colonized by the Southern Tiburan Empire.

1699-1799: Despite being colonies of the Empire in theory, in practice the three islands become hotbeds for piracy, smuggling, and other nefarious activities, de facto known as the Aresuroi Pirate Confederation. Rum-running and privateering become the backbone of the economy alongside cash crops of coffee and marijuana. The Empire eventually comes to tolerate the status quo and encourages said privateering, rum-running, and cash-crop trading with occasional bribes in exchange for lip service fealty, taking out specified rival colonial fleets and bases with previously mentioned bribes, and preferential treatment and protection of Tiburan merchants.

1799-1824: The Aresuroi Pirate Confederation is swept up in the Hesperian Revolution and Valkist Wars, attempting to play both sides off before being annexed by the First Hesperian Republic, prompting the Empire to intervene and retake the colonies by 1824, establishing official, direct control over the archipelago for the first time since the 1660s.

1824-1890: Tensions slowly build as the Aresuroi Archipelago chafes under more direct Imperial rule, with many small, poorly coordinated revolts over the decades until the Great Aresuroi Rebellion of 1890 with an official declaration of independence by the Republic of Aresura.

1890-1899: The rebellion lasts for 9 years, supported covertly by anti-Pelasgian powers and openly by the Third Hesperian Republic. Brutal, bloody, and seemingly perpetual, the Pelasgian Empire finally admits defeat and recognizes Aresuroi Independence on January 1, 1899

1899: The Republic of Aresura establishes a constitution based off the RL Articles of the Confederation in the US.

1899-2011: The Republic of Aresura is an isolationist, relatively ineffectual government due to the lack of a strong executive and a legislature that has too much power, and no easy way for them to be active, internationally or, occasionally, nationally. Reform is far from the minds of anybody because of how the legislature is set up, corruption is evident, and for some time the people have been clamoring for change with little to show for it.

2011: A coup is launched, composed of a good portion of the military under the de facto command of Colonel Iōséph Konstantinos. Because of the surprise and coordinated uprisings, as well as either popular support or neutrality, the rebels quickly took control of most of Aresura, save for the northwestern-most island of Remus and its regional capital of Axiflos. Touzen sends two carrier battle groups into the strait securing the safety of the self-styled Legitimists, while the revolutionaries style themselves as Reformists.

2011-Present: A Cold War between the post-delegationist de facto Touzen-satellite Republic of Aresura and the vaguely-socialist de facto militaristic junta Provisional Collectivist Congress of Aresura, punctuated with occasional semi-serious negotiations, ensues. Overseer-Colonel Iōséph Konstantinos maintains power through the fact that Aresura is not reunified.

Aresura already has a semi-established history within Europe, and so I wish to add to and enhance the RP that @Touzen had been quietly developing by injecting a little Caribbean-flavored spicy Cold War drama to the area. Furthermore, a Greek Caribbean nation is a more unique take on the standard operating procedure of Western European colonized Caribbean nations, but perfectly possible given the international influence of @Pelasgia.

6. How else might this application help RP or contribute to the community? (100 - 200 words)
My RP is likely to be low-key, given my expected activity levels, but filled with references to rum, marijuana and coffee, so it’s bound to be a bit goofy while also fun. It also brings some fresh-ish ideas to the western continents of the map. Additionally, I'm returning to RP after a multi-year hiatus which is probably always good, and actually sticking with a nation for once.

Cofressa is the capital, while Daeva can be considered a rather large city. Most of the rest of the cities are optional to include, but would be appreciated. The Blou Sea is the name @Hesperia and I more or less agreed to be the name of the body of water between us. Cities on the currently established Aresura island can be omitted if there are concerns with @Touzen.

Also, if possible, a color swap of Aresura being blue and Congress Aresura being red would be appreciated.
