Silk Sea/Cerealian Sea, 20 NM South-East of Vanguardia
Sunrise

The sun was starting to rise and deck of the Crux began bustling with activity to begin making ready for flight Ops. Rear Admiral Dewey was sipping on his morning coffee from the Bridge of the carrier. Today was going to be a good day. He was in charge of the carrier strike group headed towards Eiffelland-Retalia. A majority of the world assumed the entirety of the group was headed there, in-fact he was simply charged with providing a large escort for the marine detachments that would be traveling to Natal.

His mission was two fold, providing escort in the hostile waters of the Implarian & Cerealian Sea. He was briefed and well aware just from reading the global news papers, the Justosians were not making themselves any friends and were becoming more erratic as weeks passed and more shunned them aside, they had even been making hostile statements against his own government. In his eyes he was more than just an escort for the marines, he was to be a slap in the face of what the Continental Empire considered its waters, its "sphere of Influence".....he paused for a moment and let out a little chuckle from his own thoughts, "what sphere of influence, the Empress couldn't influence her Husband into bed"

He started walking away from the bridge to return to his quarters. "XO, radio the escorts, have them prepare their Helos for operations. I want our aircraft on-board ready to launch. Lets have some fun shall we?"

The six ships of the Continental Navy had left New Touzen two days ago, full of fuel and supplies on a mission to return to the Silk Sea fleet that Sylvania was now gathering at it's shores. They were to sail south of the Vanguardia Islands and then directly for the Port at McKay's Rocks. It was morning and already the ships were aiming for crossing south east of the islands, avoiding Justosian national waters. Their mission during their trip back was the same as it was when passing by the antsy Eiffellanders, freedom of navigation. The Two Marathon class missile destroyers Western Spirit and Pillar of Freedom were accompanied by four Hazard class missile frigates, the Pioneer, Kestrel, Starbuck and Haven.

Captain Stanley Bird III was in the lead ship Western Spirit, when he was informed by the CIC that their passive RADAR detected aircraft in the area.

"Justosian?" Captain Bird asked?

"No sir, judging from the radio transmissions and transponders they are out of Johnston Island, looks to be a carrier group."

"Sweet Jesus."

Captain Bird got on the radio in an attempt to hail the Johnston Island carrier group. "Johnston Island ships this is Captain William Bird of Task Force 116 of the Continental Navy of Sylvania. We are conducting freedom of navigation operations in this area. We are friendly."

The thought of seeing a fleet of Johnston island ships was a little surprising in this area, there was no way they had been deployed to intercept Task Force 116 for their antics over near Eiffelland, the meeting had to be coincidental.

The sound of a ASW helicopter could be heard in the bridge taking off Western Spirit to continue screening the task force from submarines.

Johnston Island ships this is Captain William Bird of Task Force 116 of the Continental Navy of Sylvania. We are conducting freedom of navigation operations in this area. We are friendly.

The officers on the bridge looked at each other and let out a laugh to each other, "They must not have been expecting us, and must've thought we'd blow them out of the water thinking they were Justosians". The XO picked up the line to the rear admirals quarters and had a quick discussion with the rear admiral before hanging up and turning to his communications officer.

"Rear Admiral Dewey says we should extend an invitation to the cheeky bastards. So lets hail the Sylvanians on the radio and invite them to the party."

Task Force 116, this is the Confederate Aircraft Carrier Crux. Rear Admiral Dewey, Commanding Officer of this Carrier Group, has extended an invitation for you to send over a liason. A spot on the deck will be awaiting should you accept this invitation.

After the recent spats with Sylvania and the Rurikgrad Pact, Eiffelland-Retalia was well aware of the fact that some nerves were lying blank. Therefore, it was decided to send the troops to Natal for Operation White Knight as discretely as possible while maintaining security. It was a carrier group that escorted the transport convoy. It stayed far away from the territorial waters and avoided the traditional sea routes and fishing grounds as much as possible.

The transport convoy carried the Eiffelloretalian soldiers with equipment. The Eiffelloretalian soldiers were from the German, Tiburan and French speaking communities. The differences in mother tongues would be an additional complicating factor during the exercise, but the Eiffelloretalian generals considered it good to also practice the use of a lingua franca in combat.

OOC 1: @Etruria , I already presumed that your troops traveled with mine. Is that fine?

OOC 2: The second paragraph was changed. Please see post 5 of this thread for the reason. The original text was:
The transport convoy carried Eiffelloretalian and Etrurian soldiers with equipment. The Eiffelloretalian soldiers were from the German, Tiburan and French speaking communities. The differences in mother tongues would be an additional complicating factor during the exercise, but the Eiffelloretalian generals considered it good to also practice the use of a lingua franca in combat.
And eh, don't worry, Etruria, I won't sink anything ;)

The fleet of the federal kingdom was in its first experience of sailing by number and distance. Etruria had a fleet mainly designed for the Reman Sea, surveillance and escort operations, and this operation could not be a limit, but a challenge that was decided to face. With human personnel transported mainly by air, the most bulky equipment and vehicles remain, such as the MBT to be transported up to Natal.

The fleet, consisting mainly of support and supply ships, would also have had 2 Amphibious assault ship. The escort would have been provided by 3 frigates, 2 offshore patrol vessels and 1 submarines. The route followed would have been that of Natal's commercial route. The defense ministry of Etruria did not keep secret this exercise, as it is not considered necessary to do so, as there are no obvious dangers, on the contrary, it was a new source of photos for the recruitment office.

OOC @Eiffelland In the end I decided to make this experience myself, for not to have a "closed sea" fleet. Please do not sink the transport ships, I would have no way to replace all the MBT lost in the short time :S.

Captain Bird decided to go himself, leaving his XO in charge of the task force while he was on board the Crux. A second Seasprite helicopter was wheeled out of the ships hangar and was prepared for Captain Bird's journey. Meanwhile the six ships of Task Force 116 continued sailing toward the Johnston Island Fleet still maintaining to international waters. Meanwhile the ASW helicopters began dropping sonobouys to cover the Task Force's advance toward the Johnston Island fleet. Captain Bird arrived on the Crux some minutes later and was whisked away by an aide of Rear Admiral Dewey.

Captain Bird saluted the admiral after entering the meeting place. "Sir, Captain William Bird, Task Force 116, a pleasure to meet you in unfriendly seas."

Rear Admiral Dewey saluted Captain Bird back

"Welcome Aboard the Crux Captain. Just think of how the world would react, they seem to all think the DDI and ODS are at odds with each other, yet here we stand together on the Bridge of the same vessel." He could see even the captain of the Sylvanian task force couldn't agree more. Captain Bird took this moment to speak as he could tell the Admiral was waiting for his response. "I couldn't agree more, the world is upside down. I must be frank, and ask. What is a Confederate carrier group doing out here? Why did you invite me aboard your flagship?"

The Rear admiral walked to get a better view out of the bridge as the captain came to join his view.

"The answer to your first question, we are primary tasked with escorting the amphibious ships across the sea for an ODS joint exercise, and as you yourself stated, these are unfriendly waters. As to why I invited you aboard, that too is because we are in hostile waters. We both know the Justosians have provoked our governments, they attempt and slander them, they think they are superior to us. I think we both know the truth, they are nothing more than an absolute monarchy attempting to parade around as democratic while they care more of their weapons of war than the well being of their citizenry. They are hypocritical and reactionary, if there was ever a great threat to stability in the Implarian, it would be they. I too know of your little adventures off the coast of Helgoland, and no, we were never meant as an intercept, just a lucky coincidence."

He paused for a moment, reading the facial expression of the Sylvanian captain...… he looked intrigued, like perhaps he knew where this was now leading, he then walked across the bridge to show him the plotting.

"We are here, and your task force is here. Our radar shows us a grouping of Justosian ships vectoring on an intercept of your task force, the lead ship has apparently slowed its travel. Most likely awaiting for the arrival of the rest. We have the numbers, and the firepower should they foolishly try something, so my question to you is. Do you want to have a little fun again? This is a lesson they need to learn"

Captain Bird was impressed. "Lucky coincidence indeed! We might have been up shit's creek if you hadn't shown up." Captain Bird stepped over to the plotter and reviewed the information. "They'd be foolish to try something, even if it was just us out here, now with an entire fleet of ships they want to try and play games? If that's the case then... of course I want to play a little game with them. My task force is already en route joining up with you would be easy, but afterwards we must rendezvous with the rest of the Sylvanian fleet much further north east of here."

Captain Bird had a bit of a sadistic smile on his face, they would be the first ships of Sylvania to help stick it to the Justosians, wherever it went from here was up to how the Justosians responded to this new joint Confederate/Continental Navy operation. It was clear to him that back home a war footing was being prepared. It was only a matter of time before they were locked into a course that would bring Justosia, Sylvania and perhaps a few other nations into a head to head match.

Dewey watched as the Sylvanian captain boarded his awaiting helicopter and took off from the deck. Now he stood in the bridge, ready for a little more excitement than he had planned for. He quickly jotted down on some paper and handed it to a member of his staff, and hurried them along to find the XO.

"CO all aircraft from the carrier will have transponders disabled, helos' from the escorts will remain on. I want two Vultures on the deck on standby and six in the air. , I'll be ordering two frigates to break off and continue onwards into the open Cerealian Sea escorting the amphibious ships and onwards towards natal, tell them to open up and get a hustle on it, if something should happen with the Justosians, I want them as far away as possible."

The staff member delivered the quickly scribbled note, it left control of the flight operations to the XO and to decide as the Flight Ops officer.

Two Squadrons, one to mock attack the Sylvanians for air defense exercises, another to make an run against the Justosians.

The XO folded the note and began his briefing for the pilots that had been gathered from before the Sylvanian visit as their aircraft had been prepared on the deck.

"Gentleman, our fleet is currently on a heading towards the Sylvanians. It has been determined that some of you will be utilized for aerial defense training and will be launching a simulated attack against their fleet. Obviously our range to them is closer than a true combat situation where we would be launching you, as such you will fly out and make a turnabout coming in from the west. You will hit the deck and make an approach and 'attempt' to sink any of their ships. First flight, you are dismissed"

He paused as he watched the designated men leave and close the door behind them before he continued.

Second Flight, you gentleman, get the most difficult task. There will be two additional vultures on deck to assist should something happen and a situation arises, as well as first flight redirection should it be necessary. In this location here radar has identified a lone Justosian Frigate, radar also indicates a number of ships are what would be assumed on a course to join this lone ship. If we are going to act, we need to act now, our aircraft approach will be far swifter than any ship can gain. You Gentleman will take off on a course of intercept, immediately after take-off you will hit the deck and...…..."

As the men left, the XO stepped outside and onto the ships deck to enjoy a smoke he would enjoy this smoke before he headed to the bridge to assist in managing the operations. The roar of the jets as they began their vertical take-off heard in the background.

Undersea,

The mission had been top secret, not even the Rear Admiral was aware of it. It had been the reason the fleet had been specially tasked with sailing as close as it did to the Justosian territorial waters. The interference between the surface ships, the shallow waters, and being a diesel electric submarine. It all worked in the favor of the crew of the Barracuda, most of whom were all in the dark as to their mission status as well.

The mission? Tapping an underwater communications cable from Vanguardia to the main Justosian Island, and other subsequent lines that fed into it. The submarine had crept at a slower pace than the rest of the taskforce, allowing itself the safety of distance, but also of stealth. It had slowly veered into the Justosian territorial waters at the bottom of the seabed.

The western sea defense sectors had been busy of late. The operators of the SOSUS underwater warning nets had been monitoring the passage of many large capital ships. Due to the courses of the ships, data from the warning nets was not the best, but course, speed, and numbers could be estimated. The ships weren't approaching Augustinian waters, so alert levels remained normal.

The submarine had spent what had seemed an eternity hugging the ocean floor in the shallows of Vanguardia, in reality it had only been six hours they had been sitting here awaiting the return of the unknown engineers who had been slipped aboard the ship for this secret task. The few officers aboard who knew they had violated the territorial waters of Justosia had slowly been growing uneasy as the time had passed. Raising questions amongst themselves; What if We're discovered? Would our ships above protect us? Would our government leave us denying we ever were here, or would they claim we were in national waters and avenge us?

The fears soon would disappear amongst them as the engineers arrived back at the special compartment that was for offloading special forces or carrying out other clandestine missions that had been built into the submarine. The tapping had been successful and the Justosians, and even others of the world would not know of what had happened here. They could now intercept information and sift thru it for critical information relating to the military and other government affairs communications between Avalon and its crown pride and joy of Vanguardia. The submarine now began its journey back out of the waters and back towards the open seas, headed towards home.

------------------------------------
Fleet Ops
Outside Territorial Waters, Vanguardia

The last of the Vultures began returning to the deck of the Crux, they had carried out a series of simulated attacks upon the Sylvanians while others had harassed the Justosian frigate by first having made it appear they were making an attack run at the Frigate and then carrying out a few other harassing maneuvers buzzing over the decks. They had been used to goad the Justosians, to show force, and remind the Justosians that their foreign policy was wreckless, provocative, and most of all wouldn't be tolerated.

Once the final vulture had landed and been secured the Rear Admiral Dewey gave a knod for the helmsman to turn the carrier back to an easterly heading and took to the communications "Captain Bird of the Western Spirit, we are heading back out to sea in the Implarian. You are welcome to accompany us until safer waters." While he was a little disappointed he would not be seeing the sights of natal, nor had he managed to do a little more than tease the Justosians, it was still a successful mission so far as nothing had happened that could have potentially happened, nor had any men under his command been lost. He did at least get to stick it the bastards he thought to himself as he let a little smirk rise to the surface of his face before disappearing.
