Looking at my numbers I think you can go to something more as my numbers since you had no civil war/famine - but you are more northly, so i guess around 17M was a good shot.

While I sort of agree with the overall sentiment put forward by Engellex, both the points made by Gunnland and Geotri about Eurodisney / Gallo-Germania not being quite like RL Europe in terms of nation sizing and geography. The name of the forum also means as Geotri noted the focus will always likely be on European-style nations.

There's also the absence of an 'Americas' and it seems now Toyou is virtually filled up with Xen now taking a larger role and Kadikistan potentially expanding. Just some other factors to consider.

To some degree we also need to consider the impact of still having largely 20th century societies (still a large manufacturing base, more socially conservative, less digitalised...)

Me personally - I was beginning to think maybe 12.5 million was a bit on the small side for my map spot size but I'm not going to suddenly inflate my population in what may suddenly be a war situation. I now also think I'll also keep my vision in Trivodnia being a largely sparsely populated save for a quite dense Polesian coastline.

Maybe people should also be considering have population decline within their nations rather than just shrinking their population overnight, particularly the more modern ones because in rl western europe and scandinavia fertility rates have been below replacement since the early 1970s (with the exceptions of Ireland, Portugal and Spain who only fell below replacement in the mid to late 1980s). The only reason the western european populations are growing at the moment is due to immigrants and their higher birth rates than the native-born people and besides Gunnland, the colonies down in south west himyar & myself I don't see anywhere where all these immigrants could be coming from to fuel population growth. Also, I understand nations could've grown until the early 2000s due to the large amount of young couples from when the population was above replacement rate but by now those generations are getting close to their 50s so their fertile period is essentially over.

Addition: Btw I know my pop is rather large at 45 million considering irl the average county has about 35 million people however I had large birth rates which are now falling rapidly and according to my calculations now the fertility rate has fallen to 2.67 children per woman and will continue to fall rapidly over the coming years. Also if anyone needs a place for immigrants to come from feel free to ask me and we could work out some numbers.

That would work if we would have the time and motivation to RP continuously for decades so such population changes can be done organically.

True. I guess the declining population can still count for when people lower them and they could still RP it and the issues with it though.

What's the current status of the Gallo-Germanian culling?

I've shot short of my rl markers by 10-20 million, something like 66 million (and honestly feels like I'd need to do fully 80 million to have every minority I've written + the Kurmanji + each have a shot at some sort of relevance, if they're to be included). This isn't at all Gallo-Germania we're talking, but I know that my population (or maybe what I intend to do with it) has specifically been an issue in the past.
