Army Recruitment Falling Behind

The Army of Portsrey is seeing decline of manpower with many young able bodied men instead joining local militias instead. A common trend every 10 years, it usually results in the main armed force being older and more well experienced who assist in training of the many militias of Portsrey. "With recruitment for the main fighting force of Portsrey not meeting standards, we shall instead direct resources to make sure that local militias are up to combat standards." Colonel Marcel Gouin stated earlier this week in a press conference.

Most militias are funded and owned by private citizens who protect and serve their local communities, with more regulated militias funded at the State level. While making the bulk of military might of Portsrey, they are much less disciplined and generally under armed compared to most modern armies. Generally only armed with small weapons, occasional mortars and artillery pieces, they rely primarily on hit and run tactics and ambushes. Colonel Gouin also stated in the press release that, "We will be running drills and field practice to better prepare the militias, using blank rounds and practicing their unconventional tactics against a more uniform and disciplined enemy."

While the issue of recruitment is a constant debate in Congress no resolution has been passed to slacken recruitment standards or for conscription. Deemed by the Senate as "Highly unconstitutional and will result in mass spread riots." With no answer in sight for the Army, they will for now train and drill the militias to ensure a safe domestic home force.

The Serenien defense industry would be more than willing to provide Portsreyen militia members with state of the art infantry equipment to further amplify their ability to defend their inalienable rights as free citizens of the republican motherland. If private citizens are so inclined, a consortium of industry representatives will make themselves available for a meeting in Cantaron at the very earliest.

After consulting with the various militias, namely the state level militias, they have decided to take you up on the offer. And are willing to meet with your generous industry representatives in Cantaron, at the hotel Passerelle Verte. We are honored by your noble intentions and grand generosity, and we look forward to further cooperation between our fine people.

Native Tribe Hit by Large Storm

One of the Native Tribe Chocowai's settlements was recently hit by a small tropical depression. Suffering from high winds and torrential rainfall large amounts of the town was either flooded or was struck from falling limbs/trees. This is the first major storm to hit in the "Saison Humide," which typically lasts from four to seven months. The period is marked with large amounts of rainfall and storms, which particularly affects our state and Varencana. The swampland in these states has over the years been drained and neighborhoods placed over top of them, which has resulted in sometimes severe flooding in these areas.

However, the Chocowai typically suffer more to these storms due to poverty and close proximity to the coast, where most of the storms come from. The State and Federal Governments have made numerous attempts to incorporate and build infrastructure, most of which results in failure from Chocowai to accept the aid. Generally distrustful of the Government, even by our standards, and unfriendly to visitors has resulted in them being more and more isolated to the rest of civilization. After being granted greater autonomy in the early 1900's, they have ceased to be hostile with our people. But, have yet to see us as anything other than invaders and savages.

ATC Announces New Military Contract
ATC (Aignes Tractor Co.) to design and manufacture new Military vehicles, including new cargo and support vehicles as well as a new APC. The negotiations for the contract lasted five days before they came to agreeable terms, 30.8 million dollars as payment in return for "New and sorely needed vehicles," A military spokesman said.

The ATC has over the years been a reliable source of military vehicles for Portsrey, however with economic downturn in the 90's and early 2000's has left the armed forces with decades old vehicles. With frequent mechanical issues and equipment breaking down from long term usage, most vehicles having been in service for 20+ years. With left over budget that would have otherwise been returned to the Federal Government, they instead decided to upgrade their equipment. Which has caused some eyebrows to raise in Congress, but have allowed it due to "The military really needing to have some form of mechanization."

With this new contract secured, ATC has 10 years to have the designs and tests finished.

Local Militias Strike Agreement with Serenierre

While talks have been ongoing for a while, an agreement has finally been struck between Portsrey (Specifically the Militias,) and Serenierre to better outfit the Militias. With newer small arms the Militias are more able to defend the nation and their respective communities and states, with training with these new arms beginning in the coming weeks.

This comes after recent news of protests and demonstrations Villesen outside of the Aurarian Embassy and escalating tensions in Gallia. While these events seem far away to us over the ocean, it will drastically effect trade and commerce, possibly resulting in limited rationing of resources. President Alex Beaulieu is expected to be briefed on the ongoing events overseas this week and will be keeping a close eye on the events unfolding in Villesen and abroad. "We are in troubling times, and we must stay ever vigilant and aware of the world around us," President Beaulieu said in a press statement this morning.
