Greetings!

Your Majesty, it is with great joy that we write to you this day to express our great pleasure at seeing your proper accession to the throne of Gunnland. As we noted in our previous, public message, we look forward to the day we are able to travel to Windhaven to meet with you personally. Of course, dear sister, you are always welcome to visit Eschenbach. Our two realms have so much in common and it would be wonderful to have sucn an occasion to properly celebrate those commonalities.

In the meantime, we hope this new year to open new channels for the discussion of items of mutual interest. As you are no doubt aware, Crotobaltislavonia has become a great flashpoint. There is always the criminal element who use the porousness of the border between our two realms to hide among our Gunnish subjects and yours. And we hope to build greater economic cooperation this year. The rail line between windhaven and Eschenbach is a prime example of how such cooperation strengthens the ties between Gunnland and Elben.

May the angels and saints watch over us!

Dear royal cousin,

I look to Elben as a model for how to modernize my realm. We have much to learn from you. My government believes there is a threat of war from the East, and urge me to make our case to Geotri, Warre, Caledonia, and even Bourgogne. But my late father Josias always believed Gunnland could defend itself, that the martial traditions of my people are not irrelevant in this age of machine warfare, and that foreign troops would bring foreign ways to our kingdom. So I must know. Will there be a war? And what would Elben have her friend to the west do in the case of war?

I hope that you shall be present at my coronation, Wednesday next, at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Windhaven. It would be an honor to host you, as well as our royal cousins.

Your Majesty,

Will there be war? It is my belief that the great powers will come together in some way to find some arrangement to continue the status quo. There is too much at stake for there to be a general conflagration over Crotobaltislavonia. If I am wrong, if I have read the situation so poorly, and there is indeed war, I would ask nothing of Gunnland except to accept my subjects who are able to flee the Red hordes with Christian caritas.

Dear royal cousin,

I look forward to seeing you in Windhaven very soon. I shall presently be making changes to my government; in fact, I expect I shall appoint a new prime minister in advance of my coronation. You shall be in our quiet, charming university town capital in a time of some political wrangling, I am afraid. I suspect that the present Gunnish administration wishes to use this crisis to implement some lasting foreign policy alignments that are neither to my liking nor to the interest of peace in our region. Soon the Blackthorn administration will be used to having a queen, but they are unaccustomed to rule as yet. Beware them.
