Operation Hagedorn

The Eiffellandian government did not have the intention to control the events in the East. It did not want to be involved in the war in Yujin, either. But contrary to what the Ministry for Foreign Affairs said, it was known to the government that it was the Emperor himself who had ordered the use of chemical and biological weapons. All government members agreed in their opinion on the Emperor: The man was a psychopathological mass‑murder. But a communist Yujin was a nightmare scenario as well; therefore, the government was in a diabolic dilemma. It decided to remain neutral.
But a disruption of the Sikandari trade was considered a major problem, because Eiffelland depended largely on Sikandari oil. Therefore, it was decided to at least protect the Sikandari vessels destined for Eiffelland and Nichtstein. It was unknown whether the Tyrrhenians depended on Sikandari oil as well, but when needed, the Eiffellandians would also protect the Sikandari vessels destined for Tyrrhenia, despite the fact that Tyrrhenia was an RDTO member.

Emden was the home base of the III. Flotte, Eiffelland’s third carrier fleet. This fleet would be dispatched to the Long Sea to serve as a basis for Eiffelland’s mission to protect Sikandari vessels. But the III. Flotte would not go alone. A group of 5 torpedo boats, 10 destroyer escorts, 10 attack submarines and 10 frigates would accompany it. Everybody was working hard to prepare the many ships. It was expected that the fleet would set sail on 9 April 1954.

Dawn of the Republic

With the Republicans from Yujin smashed, and unable to continue the war, all portusgalian efforts for a Republican Yujin have fallen. The Bureau of Foreign Affairs is in deep shame with this episode. The portusgalian relations with Touyou are always corrupted by economical interests of major corporations, the major one is the Orient Company who has the sole monopoly of commerce/trade with Touyou. Other portusgalian corporations that have negotiations with Touyou have to ally to this trade monster. Major names such has ASTRA, the automobile corporation, are deep friends with the Orient Company. Although other small corporations, or "non-aligned" corporations, who question this centenary monopoly have supported the government efforts to support the republicans. The government of Côrte-Real was genuinely supporting in pro bono the republicans, expecting that democracy would triumph over communism and imperial despotism. Since this fiasco the Orient Company is in a confortable position, with Osório, the secretary of foreign affairs, almost being dismissed by the Queen.

The government is now away from the situation, this was a major break out of neutrality, and it fears that supporting the imperialists it may focus the carentanian atentions over Portusgalia. This puts the government in a weakling position towards the defense of the Sikandaran merchant ships. Although if the enter in portusgalian national waters they wave a warranty that they are save, no escort convoys are deployed in to sea like Eiffelland does. Other major support to this lack o assistence to Sikandara, is Mozambia and SACOR (oil corporation). The carentanians are the secret heroes of the business men from Mozambia and SACOR. With the Long Sea route at stake, Mozambia is winning milions because the ships have to make a detour towards the Himyar Route. Hotels are full, ports are full, passengers all over the place, and those passengers became turists. An agressive from turist promotion agencies from Mozambia starts attacking, in order to seduce the passengers to stay even more time. Time in Mozambia means expending their money in there. The province government is earning great tax payments from the ports. In general lines... A great bonus to Mozambian economy. Since almost 70% of the congressmen are mozambians, the situation it is explained...
Other major corporation, SACOR, that in 1954 quite being an oil importer to start being an oil producer, is thriving in the oil trade. With Sikandaran oil trade at stake, the Elfantan oil of SACOR, doesn't need to pass by the Long Sea and it is exported directly to Europe, either has oil or has fuel.
Other point is the great development program of Bissau, that the government is executing. Since Bissau is a underdeveloped province, the government is putting its best efforts in infrastructures and seducing trade to that realm. The major idealist of this is Côrte-Real, and the idea of the Long Sea traffic passing in Bissau is helping a lot to accelerate the process. So another man that intentionally delays some support to Sikandara.

The only one that stands on Sikandaran side, is the Orient Company with more than obvious interests in the area. Sikandara is de jewel of commerce of the Company, with intense trade connections ranging from goods to passengers. The Company knows that this Carentanian measure won't be for ever, and Sikandara will remember the position of Portusgalia in the future regarding this situation. There are too many enemies standing against the OC power and trade in the East, but can they beat the might of a centenary corporation? The Company continues its trade with Sikandara, and in fact is profiting a lot with transport of goods, mainly oil to Europe. But the OC, is a good market prospector, and knows if Sikandara is strangulated economically, the company will suffer a major lose in trade. So supporting the security of Sikandaran ships and trade it is vital. The Company is also moving in the shadows of politics in order to force the portusgalian government to take a stance towards this.

Operation Hagedorn

The III. Flotte had taken up its position in the Long Sea, exactly in‑between Emden and the seaports of Sikandara. The other ships taking part in Operation Hagedorn assumed their task of escorting Sikandari vessels destined for Eiffelland.

The Eiffellandian government had also taken into account that it would not make friends among Socialist countries with Operation Hagedorn, but it already assumed Eiffelland to be under special interest of Socialist countries, especially Carentania. Eiffelland was Carentania’s most important opponent in Solaren, Eiffelland was militarily on par with Carentania, and Eiffelland was a non-Socialist country. On top of that, Eiffelland was situated in a part of Europe that Carentania was assumed to consider its sphere of influence. Furthermore, the Germanic alternative to a Socialist revolution (the Social Market Economy, which was in fact the result of negotiations between the elites and the common men) was frowned upon by the Carentanians. From that perspective, it would not matter if Operation Hagedorn would be carried out or not.

In any case, the success of the Social Market Economy had one disadvantage. The Eiffellandians completely failed to understand the fanaticism of Socialists, their unwillingness to compromise and their blind hatred for each and every system that was not Socialist (even if such a system also managed to achieve social justice).

A procession of Vangalan warships and commandeered merchant vessels entered the port in Siraama to a carefully orchestrated fanfare. The city's inhabitants, in a supposedly spontaneous outpouring of gratitude, lined the dockside frantically waving the flags of Vangala and newly independent Sinhai, and screaming with excitement, while victorious Red Alliance rebels and their Sinhese nationalist allies fired rounds into the air in salute of their foreign comrades-in-arms.

The purpose of Vangala's presence in the Sinhese capital was threefold: first to guarantee the survival of the independent revolutionary government; second to deter an attack by Sri Siva and third to act as a base of operations in offences against remaining Imperial forces in the region.

To ensure the survival of the revolutionary regime in Siraama, a sense of unity between the different factions would have to be established - at gunpoint, if needs be. Accompanying Vangalan soldiers in Siraama was a delegation of senior figures from the Ministry of External Affairs and the United Motherland Front, who would act as mediators between the Red Alliance and the Sinhese Revolutionary Socialist Party, the main Sinhese nationalist group.

To ward off an invasion by Sri Siva, units of the Vangalan military, in conjunction with Red Alliance and Sinhese nationalist fighters, would be dispatched to the border region as soon as possible. The Vangalan government had also made several public assurances of its support for Sinhese independence, and believed Sri Siva ultimately was unlikely to intervene openly in Sinhai, and would instead covertly aid Imperial forces or local reactionary movements. But with the regional situation in the East so uncertain, nothing could be assumed lightly.

While the Eiffellanders already deployed and carried out all sorts of tasks, Nichtsteiners as usual somewhat lagged behind in their international decisiveness, still "suffering", as some would say, from the various constitutional arrangements the personal union imposed upon the country. No matter how much it irritated many in Altburg, overall Nichtstein was far less assertive on the international stage and pretty much just played the side-kick.

Regardless, the side kick would strike once more as a dispatch was sent to Eiffelland, offering to place select elements and squadrons of the Grand Ducal Navy under Eiffellander operational command to assist as required in Operation Hagedorn.

Operation Hagedorn

There were some doubts within the highest echelons of the Eiffellandian navies whether the lines of support would not be too long. On the other hand, it was considered to be tricky to place another carrier fleet on the route. The arrival of the Nichtsteiner reinforcements solved the problem. Now it was possible to let the III. Flotte concentrate on a smaller area, because the Nichtsteiners would control the western part of the route, assisted by the aerial divisions of the Eiffellandian Navy.

The Nichtsteiner reinforcements were heartily welcomed in Southern Eiffelland. First, they were invited to a good lunch. Then they were briefed about what needed to be done. Soon the Nichtsteiners went en route to take up their positions in Operation Hagedorn.

A large thank‑you telegram was sent to the Nichtsteiner Prime‑Minister by the Eiffellandian Chancellor.
