Seoran Nationalists and Taketoriites Clash Near Border
STN Siyang

Seoran militants and Taketoriite insurgents have clashed near the border to Northern Seora, sources from the area reported. No immediate reports about casualties were available.

The Seoran border has seen an increase in violent encounters between various armed groups in the past two weeks. Ethnic Seoran movements, themselves fractured into numerous competing groups, have profited from the erosion of state authority in both Yujin and Touzen in what some have come to call the first real opportunity for Seoran statehood since the beginning of the century. Already Seoran groups are not only operating on one side of the border, but freely conduct operations on both sides of the border. Government forces in Yujin are not in control of their side of the border, while several militia groups as well as the Touzen government's forces maintain different parts of the border on the southern side. Southern Seora is administrated by the Constitutional State as a part of the Touzen mainland polity.

A Taketoriite militia reported having been attacked by unknown Seoran assailants on a routine reconnaissance mission to the Jewish Autonomous Settlements that are within the areas in Southern Seora controlled by the Taketoriite movement. The militia reported having been able to repel the attack and having chased the attackers back towards the border dividing the Seoran peninsula. The reports could not be independently confirmed. A local spokesman for the insurgents warned that the group did not recognize the border and would conduct operations against "nationalist reactionaries, if these operations are in the interest of the post-delegationist revolution". The Touzen Ministry of Revolutionary Defense and Foreign Affairs was not available for comments.

We would be happy to act as intermediaries between the Seoran nationalists and the Hongmenghui within Yujin, in order to resolve violent attacks by Taketoriite groups and prevent unnecessary reprisals against the Jewish Autonomous Settlements within Southern Seora. We strongly urge the North Seoran groups to meet with us in Liangang for these talks.

Failed Attempt on Life of the Khan of Boliatur
STN Mrysini

An attempt on the life of Khan Dorjsurenkhoroljav, leader of a coup against the post-delegationist government, has failed in Mrysini earlier today. The assailant, a young man of eastern Boliaturan descent, was overpowered by guards when he charged at the Khan during a public speech, armed with a knife. According to officials working for Dorjsurenkhoroljav, the man is a member of the Young Regicists League, a militant post-delegationist youth movement and has confessed to be working under orders from Touzen. Khan Dorjsurenkhoroljav himself has issued a decree ordering the immediate execution of the man, identified as a certain Muunokhoi.

Battles in Boliatur between supporters of Dorjsurenkhoroljav, who proclaimed himself Khan in september of 1952, and loyalists to the post-delegationist regime supported by Jurchen forces have continued throughout the year, but increasingly grinded down into a stalemate. Disposing the Khan, who is said to prefer to maintain extensive control over all aspects of his government, would likely have weakened the opponents of the post-delegationist government. However, experts doubt that Touzen has indeed ordered the assassination, believing Muunokhoi to be a lone wolf - especially considering the flawed planning of the assassination attempt.

The Khan himself has commented on the attack, decrying the post-delegationists as "puppets of imperialists from Touzen" and claiming that he had single-handedly wrestled the knife from Muunokhois hands without interrupting his speech on industrialization plans for Boliatur. For surviving the attack, Dorjsurenkhoroljav awarded himself the honorific "stalwart leader of Boliatur".

Potenzan Duke in Vangala to negotiate release of imprisoned missionaries
STN Kilkila

The Communist regime of Vangala claims a propaganda victory after the Potenzan Duke HRH Prospero di Cornaro of Treviso starts his visit to the People's Republic to negotiate the release of detained missionaries from the Potenzan Reformed Church. The trip, personally funded by the Duke himself, has been widely reported in Vangalan party and state media and Vangalan External Affairs Minister Abdul Qamaruzzaman, speaking to foreign journalists in a press conference before negotiations, stated it was a sign of Vangala's growing clout and recognition in international affairs.

Potenzan Foreign Minister Gian Lombardo is also reportedly to visit Vangala, the first Western dignitary from a non-socialist country to do so since the Communist Revolution, to further attempt to secure the release of the missionaries. The central government of Potenza is purportedly irritated by the private visit of Duke di Canaro, who has been received first by Vangalan authorities.

The Potenzan missionaries were imprisoned for allegedly attempting to convert local tribes people to Christianity. Proselytising is forbidden under Vangalan law, and punishment can range from a fine to prison sentence, as well as more specific measures, including travel and location bans. Legal representatives of the missionaries reject the allegations, and insist the Church members were only conducting humanitarian work.

Their trial, currently underway at Indrakil District Intermediate People's Court, has yet to be concluded. Analysts reckon it is likely the missionaries will be released before the investigation is finished.

Seora Declares Independence from Empire of Yujin
STN Siyang

The province of Seora, a vassal state of the Empire of Yujin, has declared it's independence from the Empire in a bid to assert it's sovereignty amid continuing clashes between Imperial and Communist forces on the peninsula. Comrade Sin Tae-joon, speaking on behalf of the United Seora People's Congress, spoke before a small assembly of press within the relatively peaceful Seoran capital of Lelang

"Decades of oppression at the hands of Yujiner's and Touzenese are finally over," Sin Tae-joon stated, "the People's Republic of Seora stands as a strong, free, and independent beacon for all Seorans! There is no system better suited to serving a People freed from servitude and oppression than one in which every man and woman are equal; there is no greater place in the world than a great Commonwealth in which all can call each other Comrade!"

The Hongmenghui, a coalition of Yujiner Communist groups, began organizing large numbers of People's Council's throughout Hongmenghui-controlled territory in northern Seora, ostensibly under the Communist leader Wu Jindiao's wish to create the first of many Communist states in the East. Though the government has yet to incorporate the totality of Seora, reports of fighting in many parts of the region have drastically declined as Hongmenghui leaders reach out to Seoran nationalists in the Seol-a Jehyu in a bid to create an independent and free nation.

The Empire of Yujin was quick to denounce the action as a divisive, subversive, and illegitimate action undertaken by terrorists who seek to destabilize the region and tear apart an ancient Empire. Imperial forces within Seora continue to resist Hongmenghui advances, with large scale skirmishes erupting daily between Lelang and the Imperial stronghold of Sunjohang. The Imperial forces, however, have been losing ground, with units around Yodeok and Najin reported to be lost in action, and sporadic combat around Balgibyeol signals an Imperial withdrawal from that city after days of intense fighting.

Sin Tae-joon further praised the continued efforts of the Yujiner Hongmenghui units to "liberate the Seoran people", pledging large-scale military assistance in the Yujin civil war.

The Socialist Republic of Tyrrhenia formally recognizes the independence and sovereignty of the People's Republic of Seora. The government would like to open an embassy in Lelang and will also prepare the infrastructure in Kastoria for the Seoran government to open an embasy in Tyrrhenia.

The Council of Ministers of the Socialist Republic of Tyrrhenia along with the Revolutionary Worker's Party and it's Central Committee would like to sincerely congratulate Sin Tae-joon, the United Seora People's Congress, the Seoran freedom fighters and the Hongmenghui for their victory against world imperialism and oppression. The Council of Ministers will prepare a mission to give supplies and aid to the Seoran people to pass through the first days of their new republic, especially now that nearby Touzen is also in an internal conflict and in Yujin the war continues.

Taketoriites Might Have Locked Down Embassy District in Nokanawa; Unknown Number of Foreign Officials Remain
STN Siyang

Heavy fighting continued in the Touzen capital of Nokanawa throughout the day, with government troops mounting heavy pressure against the Taketoriite insurgents that currently claim control over the national capital. The Constitutional State's Continental Army and allied paramilitaries yesterday launched their bid to restore control over the capital after the city, alongside most of the southern parts of the Touzen archipelago, slipped from government control in recent months. According to figures unofficially communicated by Continental Army representatives, the government has seen significant successes in regaining control over the eastern parts of Nokanawa in the last few hours, with hundreds of rebel fighters claimed dead. Officially, the Continental Army is not commenting on the assault on Nokanawa, stating that it would not issue statements on ongoing security operations.

As the Continental Army advances into the city core, reports are coming in that a significant remnant of Taketoriite resistance is holding out in a pocket centered around the embassy district located in eastern Nokanawa. Even though the political conflict in Touzen has been steadily escalating since the summer of 1952, foreign governments have maintained their diplomatic representations inside the country, trusting into the ability of the Lord Protector's government to restore order in Touzen. Tanks and heavy support have been seen to have started grouping around the district, although both Taketoriite and Constitutional forces remain silent on any potential standoff that could endanger the lives of hundreds of diplomats and their entourages. Western sources could confirm that telephone and telegraph connections to several embassies seem to be nonoperational, but it remains unclear whether this is the case due to a general power blackout caused by fighting in the area or if perhaps Taketoriite defenders have deliberately cut off communication channels to the outside to obscure the situation on the ground for Constitutional forces.

Political tensions sparked by strikes escalated into a conflict between the Constitutional State's post-delegationist government and radical opposition forces claiming to represent genuine post-delegationist orthodoxy. The conflict, which began in Touzen over a year ago, has since expanded and incorporated other regional conflicts in Seora, Jurchen and Boliatur, with casualty estimates going into the tens of thousands.

Hundreds Feared Dead in Nokanawa Embassy Massacre
STN Siyang

Hundreds of foreign dignitaries and their staffs are feared dead after the hostage situation in the Nokanawan embassy area escalated last night. In a first statement released by the governing National Emergency Council, Chairman Shizuka Haruto spoke of an "unparalleled tragedy that has not only befallen Touzen, but the entirety of the international community. The Touzen government has highly disturbing information that suggests the execution of horrific numbers of foreign diplomats at the hands of Taketoriite terrorists, a dramatic escalation even when considering this group." He apologized that any information from the embassy district at this point was extremely difficult to verify, asking for "patience in a time where waiting is intolerable."

It was the first time since assuming power this May that Shizuka addressed the nation on TV as well as radio. The National Emergency Council currently resides in the northern city of Akayama, having relocated there after the fall of the capital to Taketoriite troops. The National Emergency Council has been externally described as the last civilian part of the Constitutional State still efficiently operating after the Taketoriite bomb attack of the All Citizens' Congress largely beheaded the political establishment of the country.

According to the government, soldiers of the Constitutional State's Continental Army began their assault on the Taketoriite pocket around the embassy district in the capital city after receiving intelligence information suggesting that Taketoriite troops had begun executing their hostages. Advancing government troops were however met with severe resistance, with fighting still going in parts of the heavily damaged city district. First pictures from the site show the burning Ivernian embassy and large holes in the concrete street in front of it, seemingly confirming reports of heavy fighting in the area. Unconfirmed rumors from within the Touzen establishment also report that the military commander tasked with executing the hostage rescue action has committed suicide upon hearing about the dramatic failure of the operation, but this could not be independently confirmed by SYN.

Ending his short address of not even 2 minutes, Shizuka vowed to hunt down the hostage takers, calling them "terrorists against the Constitutional State and free men everywhere" while also promising a full investigation in cooperation with other governments, closing with a prayer to the Buddha for the souls of those killed in the violence, a highly unusual gesture for public features in the post-delegationist Constitutional State. As Shizuka's address was transmitted, Continental Army aircrafts were seen to operate over contested Western Nokanawa. It would be the first time air assets are being deployed in the fighting between government and rebel troops. Already the blackest day in recent Touzen history could be marking a turning point in the perception of the conflict which has been engulfing the Touyouan nation for over a year now.

The Peoples & Patriots of Cantignia are absolutely horrified by the total deterioration of Touzen, once a proud nation, at the hands of bloodthirsty vigilantes. Dreadfully we must report and reveal to the world that two Cantigian Diplomats, Mister Drew P. Egan and Mister Gilbert Parr, are presumed dead or captured by Taketorite Terrorists.

We send our earnest prayers to the families of our diplomats, to the diplomats of our peers, and indeed the peoples & patriots of Touzen's Constitutional State who have suffered so dreadfully in this last year. Let all who have suffered take a moment of silence as wounds are licked, but let us also return resolute to demand accountability for this blatant act of terror.

The High Kingdom of Ivernia
utterly and completely condemns this horrific action of the destruction of the Ivernish Embassy and the near certainty that the Ivernish diplomats within were massacred. We in the High Kingdom consider this an invasion of our sovereign territory under the Ivernish Law of Embassies and Foreign Embassies and as such,

The High Kingdom of Ivernia officially declares the Taketoriite Insugents enemies of the Ivernish State.

The High Kingdom of Ivernia shall lend any and all assistance the High Kingdom can offer to the National Emergency Council and to Chairman Sizuka Haruto in the acts of:
1. Discovering and investigating the extent of the destruction.
2. Finding the guilty and responsible who still live and prosecuting them accordingly.
3. Ending the Taketoriite Insugency.

The High Kingdom of Ivernia shall never lightly accept such crimes against the High Kingdom and will see those responsible swiftly under the sword of justice.

The Fennian Union

The Fennian Union stands in full condemnation of this blatant and intolerable violation of the principles of diplomatic immunity, and the bloodshed that resulted from the utterly barbarian seizure of hostages by the fighting elements of the Takeoriite movement. There can be no excuse for these actions that have occurred in violation of the sacred principles of diplomatic immunity that have been maintained in the course of modern history even during mass conflicts such as the August Catastrophe.

In order to express our sympathies to the families and countrymen of the diplomats who lost their lives in this action, flags will tomorrow be flown half-mast at the National Palace, the Union Congress, the Foreign Office Headquarters and all Fennian embassies and consulates. Additionally, the ambassadors and consuls of the Union in countries whose diplomats have lost their lives in Nokanawa have been directed to personally express the condolences of the Fennian people to the governments of their host countries.

The Government of the Andal Commonwealth
The Ministry of the Exterior

El Gobierno de la Comunidad de Andaluz
El Ministerio del Exterior

As provided for by the Office of the President, and the Foreign Relations Committee of the Gran Consejo
Secure Communique, Dated November 1th, 1953

The government of the Andal Commonwealth stands beside and echoes the sentiments expressed by many other members of the international community in condemning in their entirety the atrocities committed by these Taketoriite terrorists. The individuals responsible for this intolerable and egregious breach of the laws of hospitality and diplomatic immunity must be held accountable, and brought to justice as quickly as is possible.

It is with the expectation that justice is indeed served that we place no blame upon the Constitutional State for this occurrence. May god judge all involved accordingly.

God bless.

The first reaction of the Republic of Cathiopia to the tragedy in Nokanawa is one of great sadness. We mourn not only the death of our own diplomats, but also the death of the diplomats of other nations, as well as the death of innocent civilians native to the city. What has occurred in the capital of Touzen is an outrage, an affront to Civilisation. The second reaction of the Republic of Cathiopia is one of tremendous anger. This government of Cathiopia, and all governments after, will ensure the perpetrators of this grim massacre are held accountable and justly punished.

DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
CONTINENTAL REPUBLIC OF SYLVANIA

The Continental Republic condemns this heinous, godless, careless act of evil that has been perpetrated upon the ambassadorial staff of Sylvania and of all nations that have been caught up in this senseless act of murder.

We demand:

  • The return of any and all Sylvanian bodies.
  • The return of any and all living Sylvanian diplomatic staff assigned to Touzen.
  • The immediate hand over of all involved in this massacre to face the courts for punishment.
  • Payment for the destruction of Sylvanian property and life.

If these demands are not met we will take action to bring both the Touzenese Continental Army and the Takertoriite Rebels to task for this crime against humanity, either through diplomatic or military means. Your savage ritual suicide will not satisfy our demand to bring justice to those involved, we will not stop until all those responsible are tried for their crimes.

National Emergency Council

Constitutional State of Touzen

The National Emergency Council, acting on behalf of the democratic institutions of the Constitutional State,

thanks the international community shown for its expressions of solidarity in this great moment of national tragedy and shame. We once again reiterate our vow to bring down these enemies of humanity at all costs, while closely cooperating with concerned parties abroad wherever possible. It is the intention of the Constitutional State to very soon begin international consultations to intensify the cooperation with the international community on how to appropriately deal with the aftermath of this catastrophe and ultimately ends its causes. It has become clear that the enemies of Touzen's democracy do not stop at our borders but have an international agenda of death; indeed, this has already become clear in the Jurchen Republic, Yujin and Boliatur.

Keeping this in mind, the Constitutional State once again expresses its sincere grief for the victims of the Nokanawa Massacre. The National Emergency Council can understand the great anger and call for decisive action issued by Mr. Viklund on behalf of the Continental Republic of Sylvania. However, the Constitutional State's government urges its Sylvanian counterpart to show restrain and practice prudence when handling the situation at hands, which is no doubt a difficult one for us all.

  • The Constitutional State as of now has no information about deaths or survivals amongst the Sylvanian diplomatic staff in the Constitutional State. Fighting in the area is ongoing. Of course, information will be immediately made available to the Continental Republic once available.
  • The Constitutional State fully understands international interest in seeing the perpetrators of this crime being brought to justice and will in due time provide for representatives to witness any proceedings that will be the result of our resolute hunt for justice. Solely the Constitutional State has the burden of bringing these terrorists to justice, a shameful task we would not want to bestow upon any other nation.
  • Other matters pertaining to the attacks will be resolved by the Constitutional State in negotiations with affected parties.

Proclaiming these policies, the Constitutional State strongly urges against any verbal show of force that could imply hostile acts against the Touzen Citizenry or the Constitutional State it built. Much like the International Community, the Constitutional State has become a victim in this affair, and it is in the interest of all involved parties that the victims emerge together as conquerors of death.

We express our condolences to the families and friends of the deceased diplomats, on behalf of the Government, Parliament and People of Eiffelland. The flags at the Royal Palace, all governmental buildings in Eiffelland and all Eiffellandian embassies abroad will be flown half-mast. As a consequence of the mass-murdering on diplomats in Nokanawa, we will put the Taketoriite Movement on the list of terrorist organisations. All bank accounts of this organisation or its members will be frozen, and all possessions of this organisation or its members will be seized. Furthermore, we consider it needed that the events in Nokanawa are investigated by a team of international diplomats. It is absolutely needed to know what exactly happened.

We would also like to know what happened to any Eiffellandian diplomats in Nokanawa.

Een uitbreiding van de verklaring van Hunne Majesteiten in de Raad van State van Lisse
An extension of the declaration of their Majesties in the Council of State of Lisse

WOENSDAG, 20 NOVEMBER 1953

TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL STATE OF TOUZEN.

Ik ben geïnstrueerd uit te spreken namens Hunne Majesteiten;
I am instructed to express on behalf of their Majesties;

National Emergency Council & Chairman.

It is with the greatest of regrets that I should perform now to admit on behalf of the Kingdom of Lisse respecting the fact that the most horrific and distressing points involved in the Nokanawa Crisis had of late been very much overlooked by the ministries of government in Leidschendam. I cannot express more the humiliation and international embarrassment presently endured by the kingdom to the fact that the attention of the government, and by extension, their Majesties, had been directed to such minor matters quite recently - matters which were of the most trifling importance in comparison with the great issues at stake around Europe.

Now, I will come to the matter at hand and address the few observations of the Lisser government. I do not believe the National Emergency Council will be surprised, or can complain, if on an occasion like this I make a pause from the characteristic tone of Lisser foreign affairs, and implore the Constitituional State of Touzen to exhaust all efforts in guaranteeing a justice for the great and barbaric crimes committed against both the international community and the proud, civilised peoples of Touzen. It is hoped that the National Emergency Council will subject the situation to a perfectly cool analysis, and, equally, hope that the government in Leischendam should not be misled with respect to the facts and details, when they should be available.

I am not going to attempt any rhetoric, other than to express further, that the Kingdom of Lisse hopes that there will be no difference between us as to this, that it is the intention of the National Emergency Council that the Counstitutional State of Touzen is to be freed absolutely in its future from any effective intervention or influence by the Taketoriite Insurgents.

Southern Yujin Declares Independence, War on Empire
STN Siyang

Fourteen months ago, the notion that the mighty Empire of Yujin would collapse into civil war was almost unfathomable. The railroad workers strike which initiated the conflict in September of 1952 and its subsequent crackdown were not remarkable, and yet the consequences of this one event have brought nearly a fourth of the worlds population into a state of war.

Today, the scope of that war increases as the southern provinces, combined with the western province of Xinhai, declare their independence from Zhenjing. This follows reports of the suicide of the Southlands military leader, Sun Daoshi, General of the Southern Expeditionary Army and military-governor of the Southern provinces. The South, now nominally led by Sun Daoshi's son, Sun Zhida, is mobilizing its entire armed forces to counter what it calls an "imminent, existential threat" from Zhenjing.

"[The Emperor] has lost all legitimacy in asking his most capable General to take his life," a spokesman for the Southern Expeditionary Army stated at a brief press conference in Siraama. "The South recognizes this as a move to undermine the freedom of its people, and it is our sworn duty to defend our country, our leader, and our families. Xiong Qirui has made himself known as an enemy of the South, and all those subjects which are filial to him are enemies of the South."

A general call to arms has been issued for the population of three Southern provinces as gun battles erupt in five major Southern cities, including Shanghu and Danbu. With the majority of Southern forces deployed in the West, the southern provinces are only lightly defended, and reports from Zhenjing suggest that as many as three armies of neighboring regional General's are hoping to take Shanghu flat-footed.

In Xinhai, New Army forces loyal to the Emperor in Siraama are rumored to be undergoing talks with SEA forces there to facilitate a mass-defection of forces in the area, while SEA forces which were still in transit to Xinhai are rumored to be attacking military outposts in the Lakelands.

The Yujin Imperial Office was unavailable for comment. Hongmenghui leader Wu Jindiao has denounced the actions of the Emperor of Yujin, calling his actions "further evidence of the debauchery and insanity present in a system where leadership is determined by blood and not merit."

Touzen Government captures Nokanawa
STN Siyang

The Touzen government has reported that it has successfully expelled rebel forces from the nation's capital of Nokanawa. The National Emergency Council confirmed earlier media reports that had reported that Continental Army units had entered the remaining neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city still under Taketoriite control in the early morning hours. The capture of the city marks a major success in the Autumn Campaign launched by the Constitutional State with the aim to recapture western areas currently under control of rebel groups loyal to the Taketoriite group ruling in large pasts of eastern Touzenand southern Seora from the port city of Hakata.

Air strikes around Nokanawa had intensified over the last week as fighting moved into the countryside and mountains around the city. Taketoriite military leaders had responded by ordering a general retreat towards the eastern heartlands of the insurgency following the utilization of air raids inside the city, citing concerns for the well-being of the civilian population. Government forces had escalated the conflict with the Taketoriite opposition which had in previous months shifted between phases of coexistence and low level violence into the current phase of warlike violence with the full deployment of armored and air assets after the Nokanawa Embassy Massacre that left hundreds of foreigners dead and underlined the Touzen government's effective lack of control over large parts of the country.

The beginning of a full scale military assault on rebel leaders associated with the massacre was generally seen as a show of force that now has seems to gained the government an important victory after months of critical setbacks. Thousands of the city's inhabitants fled the city following the escalation of violence, and their situation has been described as "desperate" by human rights groups which warn that the impending winter conditions would have catastrophic consequences especially for civilians under Taketoriite governance, but also in large areas still under control of the NEC. Winter has been unusually mild until now, but meteorologists expect winter to hit the archipelago in full force by the middle of December. Should the government capitalize on the successes of its new strategy of total military confrontation, tens of thousands of more Touzen citizens could be facing the direct effects of warfare as the front is moving eastwards into Taketoriite territory, with the National Emergency Council determined to restore its reputation in front of an international community that has been critical of the NEC's handling of the aftermath of the Nokanawa Embassy Massacre.
