Maréchal Bouglione was not sure what he expected to see when the meeting the man claiming to be of the Black Robe but he definately did not expect what Col. DeVeer led into his office. Though it was not the first time he had run across agents of the Secret Service, but those were in more formal settings and in less difficult times and in those time the agents were dressed appropriately for the occasion, these men looked, and smelled, like they had just come in directly from the field after getting back from a two-week survival course. Both men's clothing were mud spattered and stiff from sweat and faces dark with grime. At least he thought their faces were dark because of the grime, but when Bouglione got a better look at them he realized their complexions were swarthy and hair jet black, indicating they both had native blood in them. Well, Bouglione knew there must Abenaki in the Black Robes, but this would be the first one he would meet, at least he thinks this was the first one.

As soon as they were inside the room and the door closed, Col. DeVeer, hands the Maréchal a note, saying that three Coalition commanders have arrived in Dax and will be in the main conference room, then introduced the two civilians to Maréchal Bouglione.

"Messieurs, may I introduce to you, Maréchal Alexandre de Bouglione," then, stepping aside he introduces the men to the commander of the Aquitanian Army, "Sir, this is Louis Pialsis Nagazoa of ....Beynac and his very important guest."

Louis Pialsis Nagazoa has always been impressed the reaction the codeword Beynac always got. Château de Beynac was of course the home of the Black Robes, as they were called, but it has been over a century since it has been used for the purpose of a headquarters, or even the older use as the headquarters of the Black Robes during the time of their original occupation, as Inquisitors, but as its reputation still provokes a bit of apprehension, the Order still, as it does with many of the other stories and legends, maintains the perception, or should he say, deceptions.

"Monsieur Maréchal, it is a great honour to meet you," Nagazoa begins, "but due to time restraints and the fact you have VIPs waiting to meet with you, I will get straight to the point. My mission had been originally to make contact with Cheif Jonas Algru of the Otchi, but because of his capture and subsequence execution, my mission became one of extractionm the get the Chief's family out of Freiheit. In this I succeeded and is what brings me here. May I introduce Daniel Algru, the eldest son of Cheif Jonas Algru, and who is willing, if it is in his power, help us in out quest to liberate his people."

The revelation of who the young man that had accompanied Nagazoa did indeed get the gears turning in Bouglione head. Though technically Algru would be more of an asset politically, he is exactly what was needed. Well, it is said 'God will provide', and after all, Black Robes do serve God.

"Monsieur Algru," Bouglione steps forward and extends his hand, then switching to german, as is the tongue spoken in Freiheit, "it is a pleasure to meet you. I offer you and your family my condolences for not only your father's death, but for all those who have died at the hands of the Freiheiters under Faust. Is there anything I can do for you right now?"

Daniel Algru, grasps the hand of the Aquitanian commander. At twenty-six, he has seen enough horrors and death to haunt him for the rest his life, but he knows that a great deal more will need to come before it is over and he knows it will be men like Bouglione that will bring it to that end.

"Herr-Marschall," "it is an honor to meet you as well and I thank you, on behalf of my family and people for you condolences. I also promise that I will do what is required of me to bring an end to this and bring peace to my people. What I do require is that my family, which Herr Nagazoa has been able to get out of Freiheit, to be taken someplace away from the war, someplace safe where this horror cannot get to them. Can this be arranged."

"This can be arranged immediately," say Bouglione unhesitantly,"I will have them place on a priority military flight to Bordéu, they will be safe and comfortable in the capital by noon tomorrow. Is there anything else?"

Daniel looks down at the clothes he wearing.

"A shower and fresh clothes would be nice."

The old soldier smiles, turing to DeVeer.

"Colonel, make sure Monsieur Algru's family is safely placed on a priority transport to Bordéu, making sure they are provided with whatever they need. Also have my vallet sent in, Monsieurs Algru and Nagazoa are in need of freshen up before they meet the Coalition Generals. Notify them I will be right down."

"I want this shit over on schedule boys. Not only do I have the Brigadier breathing down my fucking neck to make sure everything goes down 'as fragged', but I've also received more than one personal message from the Fleet-Admiral himself to the same effect." Double checking his weapon's systems once more as he and his flight of specialized AH-1Z-Wir, or Whirlwind (AH-1Z Viper) attack-helicopters entered the official boundaries of Wolnogród proper, Lieutenant Colonel Alojzy Konas knew that he couldn't- altogether- keep the sharp-edged agitation out of his voice.

And Konas was sure that the rest of the Whirlwind pilots under his command would be able to catch that edge, as damnably clear as their new "closed" flight-radio system was. Still, it was of the utmost importance that he impress the absolute necessity of a "perfect mission" upon his men. It was highly likely that the Fleet-Admiral Wojownik- for whom the Imperial Secretariat of War had been forced to create a new, and thus far unique rank- was monitoring their every action...making it also rather likely that someone uncomfortably high in rank was doing the same back in Stary Hrodino.

That meant that this was make or break time for Konas' career- and that of every man under his command. If they managed to pull this off, they'd all come out far richer- and Konas would likely come out of it with a knighthood, something he'd been incapable of considering even six months earlier. If they failed- and weren't blown out of the sky over the partially irradiated, and completely bombed out ruins of Wolnogród- it was likely the only contact he'd have with a Whirlwind, or any other helicopter, for the rest of his life would be polishing the exterior.

'On paper,' it was an easy enough task. Imperial K-18's had been hammering the city for most of the day already, as had (the admittedly limited) Naval Infantry artillery dug into the high-ground to the southeast of the city. The night before had been much the same, only with missile cruisers replacing the latter half of the duo. As it stood, the Fleet-Admiral had issued a general stand-down order for the subs, in the case that their incomparable firepower was required elsewhere- perhaps to support the Imperial Tiburan or Warreic forces finishing off the remnants of the Freiheiter "guerillas" in the north and northeast.

It did Konas' heart a great deal of good when the only reply he received was "Wilco."

In the time it had taken for that grand internal monologue to play out, Konas's and his Whirlwinds have covered three-quarters of the distance to their target- the remnants of an ancient bank headquarters that had withstood the worst of the various Imperial barrages that had all but flattened Wolnogród's largest structures. The old bank, and the metro tunnels that ran directly beneath if were reportedly serving as one of the nerve centers of the rapidly collapsing "native resistance."

There was little chance that Hoffman- currently Greater Sarmatia's most wanted war-criminal- was present, and it was rather hoped that he wasn't, as the NBD had much more...involved plans for him- but if he happened to be crushed under thousands of tons of concrete, or incinerated in the holocaust that Konas and his men were about to unleash...well, that was tough shit for him.

And with that thought, Konas was within range of the hypothetical anti-air emplacements that could still be in place around, or inside of their target. Thus far there was no indication of any such hardware, but it wouldn't have been much of a stretch for the Niemcy-barbarians to have something stashed away down there. There'd certainly been greater surprises in the nascent assault on the former capital of the former Freiheit.

"Yardsticks out boys- and good hunting. Get your targets verified and weapons free." Erring on the side of caution, Konas angled his Whirlwind downward slightly, passing through the space that had only three weeks before been occupied by one of Wolnogród's tallest skyscrapers. The ruins of that once majestic structure were scattered several hundred feet below; according to Imperial records having been felled in the initial bombing that had caused one, maybe more of the nuclear warheads so foolishly stored underneath the city to fizzle, irradiating so many unsuspecting civilians.

At last, his targeting systems lit up green, "shuttering" boxes imposed over the aged bank on the smallish screen dedicated to such. Konas' Whirlwind was the first to come within firing range by a few seconds, but only just, but he somehow managed to escape the notice of whatever lucky- or unlucky, depending on the final outcome of this engagement- AAA gunner was manning the very-well emplacement in one of the ruins on the bank's perimeter. Two rockets screamed up at the approaching helicopters, vapor trails close enough for Konas to make out the individual licks of flame in the white smoke. Konas had just enough time to cast a jerky glance over his shoulder before the first of the rockets impacted the third helicopter in his flight, somewhere just behind the nose-mounted cannon. The explosion was truly impressive, reducing a multi-million złoty machine into so many tons of flaming steel instantly.

Muscle memory and pure hatred took over at this point, Konas and the rest of his flight reacting as one- their own rockets bracketing the area with fuel-air explosives, presumably eradicating the bastard who'd fired that AA rocket as abruptly as he'd lashed out at the fallen Whirlwind.

Once the blossom of fire had partially dissipated, shrinking back to within the bounds of the crater that had been the concealed AAA emplacement, Konas allowed his Whirlwind to drift to the right slightly, giving him a slightly better angle on the backside of the blackened bank. There was just enough of a hint of another hidden AAA emplacement to warrant a "double-tap" of rocket fire, a hunch rewarded with a satisfying detonation- that included the superheated remains of the artillery piece itself soaring up at least a dozen yards, before crashing down into a charred, smoking heap.

The rest of his circuit around the bank revealed no further emplacements, concealed or otherwise, though there were hints of activity on the upper floors of the building, concealed though it might have been by roiling banks of oily smoke mingling with nearly atomized asphalt, bring and mortar. Again, just to be safe, he unleashed a stream of 20mm fire on that top floor, the super-heavy depleted uranium shells piercing the aged concrete as easily as if it were naught more than a collection of rotten timbers. Whatever life there might have been lurking there, in the shadows had been extinguished within seconds- whether by the auto-cannon fire, or the literal storm of concrete and rebar shrapnel that followed.

Another circuit of the bank, the pounding of his rotary-blades stirring the smoke and other debris up enough to allow him a clear look at the facade of the building, and Konas was satisfied that any immediate threats to less "hardened" aircraft were neutralized.

A second's worth of cycling through comm's channels, and Konas was in contact with the flight commander of the "truly" important helicopter force.

A dozen heavy transport helicopters were cruising in fast, just minutes behind and on the same route that Konas and his flight had taken into the city. That flight of transport helo's, and a half-dozen others like it, would provide the final blow to the all but vanquished nation- Special Weapons Division "operatives", and Naval Infantry "Recon Scouts," suited up to withstand the slightly lower radiation levels that permeated all the possible locations that Hoffman might be harbored.

Some of the hardest men on the face of the planet, and certainly amongst the best trained, would soon be cutting their ways through the remains of this broken city, eliminating or "arresting" any Freiheiter "VIP's" they came across- and hopefully decapitating any future resistance movements. Konas shivered slightly at the thought of having to face down such butchers...before allowing his gaze to settle upon the still raging inferno that marked the remains of one of his men. Bastards down there deserved as good- or more accurately, as bad- as they got.

The place where the headquarters is set up in Dax was not exactly a typical military installation, but instead it is a three hundred year old chateau built on a hill on the edge of the town. Easily secured due to the old fortifications, it is not the first time it has been used in its current role, as it had once served as 1st Army headquarters the last time Freiheit invaded Aquitania. Though the chateau is as it was then, a hotel, war tends to drive the tourists away so its being turned back into a headquarters is actually a blessing to the owner, as the Grand Duchy will compensate him for the use.

It being a hotel is why the planning room is set up in the Great Hall. It is here that modern reconstruction had been done so as to provide for more modern entertainment for the hotel's clientele makes it the logical place for the eletronics used in modern warfare.

It is here where Maréchal Bouglione meets with the Coalition commanders. After greeting each of one, Bouglione quickly begins briefing them on the coming offensive.

"Monsieurs, with your troops moving into position, and with the enemy in disaray, it is time for us to attack. Aquitanian mechanized forces have been moved into position and at 0600hrs tomorrow "Operation Crusader" will commence. With overwelming air support from both land and sea
six armoured brigades, which will include the Guards Armour, will attack in three columns, one along the coast, one in the north, both securing the flanks of the main drive up the center, with a forth column attacking directly to the sea to cut off the retreating enemy from the failed attack on Bayonne."

"It will be the Guianan 1st Corps that will follow up and support the main force in the center, being prepared to move to either flank if needed. The Radilian force will support the north column the armour being ready to surge forward to exploit or to support. The same will go for the Franken contingent along the coast."

"There are three objectives, the first is obvious, destroy or capture any and all of those Freiheit forces still resisting south of the Red Line. The second is the physical objective, 'The Red Line' itself, a line on the map roughly drawn from St. George eastward to the border, this is the limit of our advance. To prevent any confrontaion with Sarmatian forces, there will not be any advance beyond that line."

"The third objective maybe the most difficult, to save as many Otchi as humanly possible. It is likely that those Freiheiters that are in resistance will attempt to take retrebution on the Otchi, this is where our air assault units will come into play. If any credible information of Otchi needing assistance, our helicopter assault troops will be sent in to either extract them or to hold in place until ground forces can arrive."

"Now I will like to introduce you to Daniel Algru, the eldest son of Cheif Jonas Algru. He has agreed to help in anyway he can. A video of him will be shot and distributed to all commands. It will be of Monsieur Algru telling his people to aid us, and themselves, in this crusade to free them from the opression of the Freiheit. Though it is unlikely, if there is any hesitation on the part of the Otchi in accepting aid or showing aggressive behavior towards Coalition troops, if possible, show them the video and hope it does the job."

"Now. Coalition commanders, you have ten hours to brief your commanders, though you will be in a support role at the beginning of this operation, be prepared to move into a frontline position when needed. If there is no questions, you are all dismissed. Good luck monsieurs, and may God be with you."

On both sides of the large pond military matters were naturally handled the same way. Generalmajor Wilhelm Beaumont was glad for the Aquitanians that they had such a professional military leadership. On the contrary, popular Franconian prejudices against Aquitanians pictured them as easy-going procrastinating ladies and gentlemen.

"Marshal, I have but one question. Which code will be used to call the allied reserve forces into action?"

As for Daniel Algru, the Generalmajor was satisfied to learn a native Otchi would lend the Aquitanians his support. Since saving as much as Otchis as possible was paramount, the naval fighters starting from the carrier KMS Graf Montgelas would have to be somewhat careful, lest there be a publicity issue, the Royal Army officer mused.

The situation was becoming very desperate for the Tiburans. Despite the docking of the transports holding hundreds of infantry in the 1st Tiburan Expeditionary Division, the reinforcements were only delaying the relentless advance of the Freiheiter recruits. What they lacked in experience and tactics, they made up for with a terrifying fanaticism, that no matter what, no matter the casualties they took, they would push the invaders off of their island.

The bombardment of missiles from both Tiburan and captured Freiheiter ships further slowed their advance, but it never halted. The minute a wave of recruits petered out, another wave followed. This was the fourth wave, and the Tiburans were on the breaking point. They were rapidly running out of ammunition and soldiers. There were reports of diversionary invasions from some of the other transport ships trying to draw off the recruits, but unloading the soldiers in question was even more difficult than here, in the main docks. The lack of proper infrastructure took up time, time that the besieged soldiers did not have.

Currently, they were making a last stand at their final defensive line. The transport ships themselves were taking hits from the recruits, though only one had been severely damaged by rocket fire. That one was enough, however, to severely erode Tiburan morale. Only a few more minutes, the officers told them. Just hold on for a few more minutes, help is on the way. Training and desperation kept the soldiers together, but as many got down to their last ammo magazine, some began considering what surrender would mean.

Another barrage of missiles from the ship, but it was the last one, and there was another wave incoming. Contrammiraglio Cipriani on the ITS Vittoria sighed deeply as the reports of the situation kept getting worse and worse. Retreat now seemed inevitable if he didn't want a total rout on his hands... but he needed to wait just two more minutes...

Those minutes passed, things began to collapse, when giant fireballs appeared behind the attacking Freiheiter troops and, accompanied by tremors, made their way forward towards the defending Tiburan troops. Stupified by the sight, they ceased firing to watch the spectacle as the explosions finally stopped, but the fire didn't, and the screams of the wounded and dying finally reached the battle lines. The fifth wave had been neutralized.

"Now's our chance! Let's finish them off!" a private shouted as he emerged from cover and mowed down three Freiheiter recruits, their backs turned to the Tiburans as they too watched the destruction behind them.

The opportunity was here, the time was now. Reeling from the strikes of the six K-18s sent from Fort Hibernia, the Freiheiter offensive had stumbled to a halt, and the Tiburans began a vicious counterattack, to strike while they reeled, and break their previously invincible morale once and for all.

The tide had turned.

The fighting on Krei Island was said to be very vicious, albeit finally winding down, so the rumor said. The other two islands had been conquered with almost no resistance, and with the now reported total collapse of organized resistance, be it conventional or guerilla, the same was expected on the mainland.

That's what the 2nd Tiburan Expeditionary Division hoped for, at least. While significantly better armed than their comrades, composed of Armored Brigade Combat Teams rather than just infantry and a few pieces of mechanized equipment, they were still only about 10,000 strong in all, and they had far more ground to cover. Supposedly, after Krei Island was finally deemed pacified, after occupational forces were established they would reinforce the three armored BCTs.

Still, there was a lot of ground to cover, with so little time.

As a handful of tanks disembarked from the docks, a rocket impacted the ground next to the lead tank. The tanks stopped, the turret turned slowly, as if savoring the moment, and the secondary machine gun on top burst to life, mowing down the inaccurate soldier with no mercy.

One down. The heavens knew how many more to go.

Operation Crusader

While all along the front, mechanized units of the Aquitanian and Coalition forces wait for the order to be given to begin the offensive that will not only drive the Freiheiters from Aquitanian soid, but will be also the next step of bringing into existance a new Otchi homeland.

In Dax, Maréchal Bouglione watches the clock, the battleplans have been made, now it just a matter of waiting for appointed time.

Day 1
0600hrs, Zero-Hour. Operation Crusader begins as Coalition Forces, lead by the mechanized forces of the Army of Aquitania, attack northwest, retaking lost Aquitanian soil and driving the demoralized and unorganized Freiheiter arrmy before them. The attack is swift and in the form of four columns, three pushing into Freiheit while the fourth drives to the sea, cutting off the path of retreat of the Freiheit force attacking towards Bayonne. The attack is so swift that within 3 hours the 1st Armoured Brigade of Battle Group Désiré had reached objective, the Coast Road, successfully blocking the retreat of the Freiheit attack force, and with most of the Freiheit mechanized units having been destroyed or run out of gas, it didn't take much more pursuasion to get them to surrender.

While Combat Group Désiré was doing its part, the three attack columns retook Aquitanian soil, advancing past the wrecked and burning equipment as well as the corpses of the troops of the Freiheit Invasion Force. The lack of any organized resistance within Aquitania indicated that the the Freiheiters were in full retreat and by 10:00 hrs, all three columns had reached and crossed the border and had entered Freiheit itself.

Once in Freiheit, resistance did become a little more noticable, but even here, with Coalition aircraft pounding away at targets before the advancing columns, the resistance usually did not last long and by the end of the first day all forces had achieved their Day 1 objectives and then some as the peninsula, not expected to taken until the second day, fell by mid-afternoon to Battle Group Eugène and by nightfall, thousands of exhausted and demoralize Freiheiter soldiers had laid down their weapons and surrendered.

During the night, as the lead units rest and prepare for the next day, infantry continued to secure key points along the lines of communication.

Day 2

The second day was much like the first, except that acting on intel that had been received the day before, a battalion of Franken paratroopers were dropped near a village turned detention camp, and in the dawn raid they were able to liberate a large numbers of Otchi being held there. They were relieved by the infantry of the 15th Infantry Regt, four hours later.

The advance contiued throughout the day, but due to the greater number of settlements in the center, slowing Attack Column Berthe, the flanks began to out distance the center, so by the end of the second day, though the center had achieved its goals, both flanks had advanced further than was ordered. This caused some concern back headquarters as it left both flanks vulnerable, but instead of pulling the flanks back, Maréchal Bouglione ordered a redeployment of Aquitanian troops to establish a line and ordered the reserves forward, Battle Groups Friedrich, Gaston and Raoul made up of the Franken, Guianan and Radilo contengents respectively, were moved into position for the next day's operations.

Day 3

Day 3 was the day, the objective, La Ligne Rouge. While the Aquitanian troops of Attack Column Berthe held a line that stretched in an arc across Freiheit, Attack Columns Anatole and Célestin were ordered to advance to The Red Line with Battle Groups Friedrich and Raoul sweeping around and linking up, closing the pocket that had been formed and prevent the remains of the Freiheit army from escaping, forcing them to either surrender or be annihilated.

Within hours, the Red Line had been reached and the lead elements of Battle Groups Friedrich and Raoul had linked up, closing the gap. It was at this time that Battle Group Gaston was given the order to advance into the pocket causing it to shrink, so it didn't take long for the Freiheiters to realize that they no longer had a place left to run. The vast majority of them were ready to give up when the first plane flew over dropping, instead of bombs, leaflets informing them of their government's capitulation and that any further resistance was futile. Very few refused to give up.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Attack Column Anatole
The route of attack of the column designated Anatole, is that of the Northern Route. Lead by the 5th Armoured Brigade and supported by the 6th Armoured Brigade along with additional Aquitanian infantry brigades and the Radilo contingent, the objective of the column is to secure the right flank of the main force, Attack Column Berthe.

Attack Column Berthe
Attack Column Berthe is the main column, led by the 3rd and 4th Armoured Brigades, this is where half of Aquitania's attacking force is assigned along with the Guianan 1st Corps.

Attack Column Célestin
Attack Column Célestin has been assigned the coast route, and like Anatole in the north is to secure the left flank of Berthe. Spearheaded by the Guards Armour and 2nd Armoured Brigade, it is this column that the Franken contingent is assigned. In addition to securing the flank, the clearing of the peninsula has also been assigned to the 3rd Infantry Brigade.

Battle Group Désiré
Made up of the 1st Armoured Brigade and the 12th and 21st Infantry Brigades, Combat Group Désiré has been assigned to cut off the retreat of the Freiheit attacking force that had attempted to drive on Bayonne and force it to either surrender or be destroyed.

Battle Group Eugène
Assigned the penisula.

Battle Group Friedrich
The Franken contingent, assigned to Attack Column Célestin

Battle Group Gaston
The Guianan contingent, assigned to Attack Column Berthe

Battle Group Raoul
The Radilian contingent, assigned to Attack Column Anatole

Foreign Office

His Majesty's Government wishes to issue a proclamation of its willingness to host an international conference with the purpose of bringing to a close the question of the former state of Freiheit. While the regime of Faust has been brought crashing down and the fighting has ended the future of the area remains in question as long as no official arrangements are made. With this in mind the Breotish Government hopes to see the creation of an instrument which will formalize boundaries and areas of responsibility in the post-war Freiheit.

On the agenda of the conference would be the stabilizing of post-war borders and the official designation of successor state/s and/or the creation of permanent territories or dependencies of the victorious states as the situation warrants. This would be aimed at the wider goal normalizing the region and ensuring the stable peacetime governance of the area. Other relevant issues may be brought before the assembled body by participating representatives.

It is the opinion of His Majesty's Government that, pending the promise of attendance and the approval of the necessary states, the most appropriate place to host the conference would be aboard the Breotish carrier HMS-Shadow of Intent (CVN-79) which is currently stationed with and is the command ship of the Carrier Battle Group Shadow of Intent several hundred kilometers off the west coast of the former state of Freiheit in the Implarian Ocean.

While any state that has a legitimate interest in the matter is invited to attend His Majesty's Government is most hopeful that the following states which we feel are most directly affected by the present situation will be in attendance:

The Empire of Greater Sarmatia
-
The Most Serene Crowned Republic of Oltremare
-
The High Kingdom of Warre
-
The Grand Duchy of Aquitania

It is the greatest wish of His Majesty and His Majesty's Government that these parties may come together and bring this matter to a close.
