Dr. George Tellefson stood on board the science ship, owned by Asylan Science Institute and the Navy, the Inventum. She was following an icebreaker, on loan from the Asylan Coast Guard to assist with making the rough journey to the arctic. They had been sailing for the better part of the week and he had never been so excited to see land before in his life. In front of the two Asylan ships, which had made only the briefest stop at Erdenshire, lay Etnaean Isamorga. No doubt their Etnaean scientific counter parts were waiting at the port for them to arrive. It was going to be a long expedition, with hope of setting up a permanent science base with easy access to Isamorga.
Their mission was one of general scientific curiosity, there were a few specific goals, but this was the Science Institute's attempt to thrust Asylan into relevance in the scientific world. With their ship they carrier three experimental wind turbine designs, which when setup would be used to test the mass production potential for wind power on the Asylan mainland. Once setup they would provide the small base with indefinite renewable power. The area they have chose had a perfect plateau for the wind generators and flat port for the main base. The Science Institute had sent another icebreaker ahead a month ago to scout out potential landing sites. Beyond just the generators though the Asylan science team, which had around fifty scientists and ten engineers, would test the effects of extreme temperatures on fauna, conduct ice drilling, and set the groundwork for a potential observatory amongst many other things.
Tellefson walked from the front of the deck up the stairs to the bridge, where he found the captain and his navigator, "So how long until we are at port?"
The captain looked at his watch, "Well, I'd say maybe six or seven hours."
"Wonderful,"Tellefson replied. He was glad to be on time. He thanked the captain and started back to his quarters to get some things ready and inform the rest of the crew.
