The Election Results of the General Election to the Duma and Senate
With
the election season finally over in Siokania, the government coalition of center-right parties will hold on to power after losing 14 seats in the Duma to the official opposition of left parties. While in the Senate, the government was able to gain 2 seats after a surprise win in two states. The government now holds 60-39 lead in the Senate and 338-301-11 lead in the Duma.
SENATE (99 seats with 50 needed for majority) (Speaker William Guo - Conservative Party)
The election started of with a twist after the announcement from the Ryba Party (Center Right) and the Centre Party (Centrist) that they would be forming a new party under the name, The Moderates (Center - Center Right). This placed the Conservative Party (Center Right - Right) on the back step for most of the election as their partners in the government now outnumbered them in the Duma and Senate. The Conservatives then moved to contest more seats than normal in the Senate race to try and win some of the seats that were held by the former Ryba Party. The Christian Democracy Party (Christian Right) and the Southern Bloc (Regionalism) both continued to align themselves with the government and hoped to pick up votes from those who were unhappy about the recent merger of the two parties. The Christian Dems would go on to lose one of their 4 seats in the Senate to a surprise upset by the Moderates in a state that was considered a flip state. The Southern Bloc, however, able to win a seat away from the Communist Party in the south after the Communist (Communism) formed a new party with the Radicals (Third Way Socialism) under the name The Left of Siokania (Far Leftist). The Conservatives emerged as the largest party in the Senate at 28 seats with the Moderates just one behind at 27 seats.
The Opposition went though some changes as well this election cycle, mostly that of the far leftist parties coming together to form a new bloc under the name The Left of Siokania. While they lost 2 seats, Labour (Center Left -Left) gained 4 seats from her other partners in the opposition due to the uncertainty of the new party, The Left. The Greens (Green Politics) held onto all their seats and the Progressive Movement of Siokania (Leftist) lost just one seat to the new Moderates Party. In the end of it all, Labour continues to head the opposition with 23 seats.
William Guo was elected for the second time to the seat of Speaker of the Senate on a vote of 67 aye - 26 nay - 6 abst. He held the position under the previous power sharing agreement and is popular for his bipartisan support of bills on the floor.

DUMA (650 seats with 326 needed for majority) (Speaker Damita Cocchi - Moderate Party)
The government majority did not fair well in the Duma after the announcement of the merger of two government parties and would go on to lose 14 seats from their previous 352 seats. The Moderates would emerge as the largest party on the floor with 163 seats to the former largest Conservatives at only 117 seats. The Moderates were able to perform well in all their old seats but would still lose some the the Labour Party and the Conservatives. The Conservative Prime Minister, Lucia Kovac , admitted that the two parties were able to outperform them in many areas due to their centrist views and she would later go on to resign at the end of session. The Christian Dems and The Southern Bloc would both go on to gain seats in the south which helped to bolster their claims to seats on the cabinet. The Right Party (Far Right) would go on to lose all their seats in this election due to the rise of anti-nationalism within many states. They admitted that there need to be reforms and promised to be back in the next election.
The opposition did significantly better in the Duma than in the Senate. For the first time, they crossed the 300 seat mark which places them in a good position for future elections. Labour dominated the returns and won 31 seats in the election. They positioned themselves as the largest party in the Duma. The Communist-Socialist Party (Far Left) along with the Radicals moved to form The Left of Siokania and did well in all their old seat holdings to bring them to second place in the opposition beating out the PMS. The Progressive Movement of Siokania gained seats at the expense of the Greens who lost a heavy majority of their seats. They vowed to do better in the next election.
Damita Cocchi was elected the Speaker of the Duma is a surprise vote of 356 aye - 268 nay - 26 abst. The Moderates, along with the Labour Party voted in favor of her election is a bid of bi-partisan. The rest of the government majority with the support of The Left and PMS voted agasint her believing that she would not be able to get anything done.

Evening Coverage of the Cedriwyn Times (22 Dec 2019)
The 2019 Federal Election Results - The Rise of the Myanmar Coalition

Good Evening to everyone in Europe! This is the Cedriwyn Times Nightly News. The News for You! Tonight, the official results of the 2019 Federal Elections are released and was this a big election for the Siokanian people. In a stunning turn of events, Prime Minister Katarina Schneider has held onto power. The Moderate Party will continue to lead the government into the year to come but this time with new allies in the Senate and Duma.

The Senate Elections 39-41-19
This has become the most fractured Senate in the history of the Senate as we see no single group able to control the Senate. The Government coalition of Centre-Right parties collapsed just a few months ago and the voters seemed to have punished the two leaders of the Coalition with the Conservatives and Moderates losing seats in the Senate. The Moderates lost 8 seats bring them down to 19 seats. Their new allies, The Labour Party, seemed to be on the back step as well with their loss of 6 seats down to 17 seats in the Senate. The other party of the new government coalition, styled the Myanmar Coalition after the colors of the Flag of the Nation of Myanmar, The Greens lost 1 seat bring them down to only 3 Senate seats. The new government in the Senate only holds 39 seats which is the lowest number of seats held by a government ever. (For the most part this seems to be a push back from new parties that have risen through the ranks this last year with 3 new parties joining the senate.)
On the Opposition side of things, they are equal as weak as the government even when holding more 2 more seats. At 41 seats, the coalition of right-parties barley limped across the finish line. With the worst loss in their history, the Conservatives are down to 15 seats after the loss of 13 senators. The general reasoning for this was the rise of the Ryba Party, which had left the Moderates ranks earlier this year. The new version of the party is further right than their predecessors which won them 8 seats in the Senate. In the Southern Allied Regions, the Southern Bloc are showing all of Siokania their muscles with their win of 13 seats. This was seen as a massive victory for their message as it gained them 11 additional seats from the last election. Their 13 seats all come the Southern Allied Region which was allocated 17 seats in last year’s electoral legislation. The Christian Dems showed their colors with the addition of 2 new senators to bring them from 3 to 5 seats. Many believe this to be a rise in religious politics in the Nordhavnene Region.
The Cross Bench of the Senate is at its largest state in years with 19 seats, after the rise of two new parties that are on extreme opposites of each other. The biggest party on the bench is that of the Labour’s old Ally, The Left, with their win of 7 seats. This is an addition of 4 seats from the last election with most of the pick ups from former Moderate Senators. The close second and third place finishers were Untamed Siokania and New Dawn. Untamed Siokania entered the Senate with 6 seats and New Dawn got 5 seats. These are two parties who absolutely hate each other. The last win of the night was the former Conservative Senator, Bill Kanter, who left the party right before the election and won his seat back as an independent.

The Senate elected Pehr Kristoffersen of The Greens to Speaker of the Senate in a surprise vote. After discussions between the Government and other political factions in the crossbench, it was decided that a Green Senator should be elected due to their left leaning politics which would help win the vote of The Left and Untamed Siokania. The twist came after the support of the Green candidate by the Southern Bloc. The vote was 65 Yeas - 33 Nays - 1 Present (from the lone independent senator).

The Siokania Senate would have become a major roadblock to any of the government’s plans if the parties of The Left and Untamed Siokania hadn’t stated that they will listen and support the government on major legislation. Although, not confidence and supply for the government, their 13 seats give the government a much needed breath of fresh air as they move forward.

The Duma Elections 324-234-92
The new government faired about as well in the Duma as they did in the senate. For the first time in the Duma, the government has fallen to minority status. The Labour Party lost 35 seats from the last election to win 158 seats in the new Duma. This was coupled with the Moderates loss of 32 seats down to 131. Their saving grace was The Greens who picked up over double their last seat count with 35 seats won across the nation. Their increase of 21 seats left the government short of a majority by 2 seats. The Greens performed well in Alberi Region to the surprise of many. Most political commentators in Siokania have praised The Greens for saving a fractured and damaged government.
The Opposition in the Duma saw minimal changes to their group with the exception of the Ryba Party and The Right who joined their ranks. The Conservatives lost only 4 seats to bring them to a total of 113 representatives. Their punishment that they saw in the Senate was not translated over to their seat count in the Duma. The Ryba Party crashed into second place with a win of 41 seats, most from the Moderates. The Christians Dems won an additional 2 seats in the Duma at the expense of their Conservatives partners. With 37 seats in the Duma, they are becoming more entrenched in Nordhavnene politics with 31 of those seats coming from the region. The Southern Bloc won 36 seats this election, up from their 23 in the last election. They control more than half of the 53 seats in the Southern Allied Region meaning their voice will be stronger than ever. In the strangest twist of the night, The Right has returned to the Duma with 7 seats. Their “diet-nationalism” message worked well in the regions of Umigawa and Seredina who felt a vote for New Dawn was the wrong message for the country.
The Crossbenchers are certainly celebrating tonight with the addition of 83 seats to their ranks. The Left has joined their bench with their 42 seats after the loss of 17 seats with a major going to Untamed Siokania. New Dawn won 17 seats to the dismay of many more non-extremist parties. The Leadership of the New Dawn Party say their win of seats should not scare people and should instead inspire them. In third place, Untamed Siokania won 16 seats. Their seats wins came mostly from the Capital Territory with disgruntled young people voted in droves for them. 13 Independents took their seats in the Duma with a majority also coming from the Capital Territory. The smallest party in the Duma, The Federalist, picked up 1 additional seat to bring their count to 4.

With the support of 5 independent representatives, the Duma elected Gustavo Altamura of the Labour Party to Speaker of the Duma in a vote of 329 Yeas - 290 Nays - 32 Abstentions - 4 Presents.
