THE CHARLEROI TRIBUNE REVIEW
President Breckenridge Disbands Federal Protection
Andrew Beatty
With revelations of deep corruption within the Federal Protection Agency, responsible for the security of the executive and other important government offices, President Breckenridge has disbanded the Agency. Under Snyder's administration the Agency was used more as spies to gather information on targets of interest to the cult, they were also used to coerce with violence those who might have spoken out, with many agents now coming forward to give information to authorities in exchange for immunity in the upcoming tribunal.
"The actions of those within the Federal Protection Agency from the top to the bottom of the agency shows the deep corruption that Snyder and Ellington allowed to persist within the government for their own benefit. Evidence shows that hundred of people who could have blown the whistle on the actions of the cult were threatened with violence against their families and themselves, we also have evidence that some were killed in an effort to silence The amount of crimes committed by this agency under their administration will take a long while to investigate and try." - Acting Attorney General Erland Gustafsson
The Agency will be replaced by the newly created Bureau of Executive Security that will function with the same mission as the now disbanded FPA. BES agents will be picked from former military and police units and be given rigorous background checks and training, something that the previous agency became lax in as corruption grew. The Bureau will be under the umbrella of the Justice Department to divorce it's day to day operations from being controlled directly by the President so as to prevent the President from using it for personal goals and agendas.
Democratic Socialist Party Folds, Radical Remnants Fracture
Laura Barnes
After the raid on the Democratic Socialist Party headquarters, those who were not involved in the cult's schemes have been left to their own devices. The radical elements of the party that had been kept in check by the now deceased Lars Ellington have left the party and formed their own. Most prominently the Socialist Workers Party of Sylvania has gained quick support of some sitting members of the continental congress. The Socialist Workers Party membership has mostly come from the northeast of Sylvania, north of Charleroi, where a majority of citizens are of Scanian descent. Whereas the Democratic Socialists enjoyed a large percentage of Scanian membership, a good portion of their members were Engell or closely related to Engell descent. The SWP hope that more Engells will want to switch over to the party as the Democratic Socialists continue to lose membership, but it's still too early to tell.
"The Democratic Socialists have left a stain on socialism in Sylvania and it will be very difficult to rebuild from that. We won't kid ourselves, because of Snyder and Ellington we will be looking at Federalist control of the government for a few election cycles before we can rebuild trust outside of strong socialist areas in the northeast. We hope that other socialist movements from outside the country will show us support as we fight to bring true socialism back to Sylvania and move toward a truly progressive society." - Klara Alfson, SWP Chairwoman.
Many prominent members of the SWP were involved in the Charleroi riots, though they claim that elements aligned with Ellington were responsible for turning the protest into a riot as a method for turning attention away from a report on kidnappings occurring in West Sylvania.
