We condemn the recent developments in the Continental Republic of Sylvania in the strongest terms possible. What do we see now isn't a way for Charleroi to solve it's issue, but a way for it's government to turn some of the most vulnerable communities in their country into scapegoats too further fuel the discrimination they feel and going as far as to institutionalise a series of racist laws that will make sure that Sylvania becomes white man's domain.

We understand and give our thoughts and prayers in regards to the tragedy that was the mass killing at the Century IV Shopping Mall. She will offer the victims financial aid to see themselves through this, be it for health care, psychological visits or funeral services. But the real problem that everyone must understand is that the issues at hand aren't the Aurophones or the Nethians living in Sylvania, for the Aurophone or Nethian next to you might be a doctor, a scientist, a teacher or a soldier in the Continental Army, being ready to service and give his life for this adoptive motherland of his. No, the problem is the gun culture so prevalent in the Westernesse society and how easy it is for many to acquire a gun and use it.

Of course, Charleroi won't deal with it, as it is maybe a too complex problem for them. They have found their scapegoats and probably secretly hope that we will strike back in the same fashion, for we can't really know for sure if this shooting was a real gang battle or it was a false flag attack orchestrated by the Sylvanian secret services specially for them to impose their racism for the rest of Sylvania. We, on the other hand, aren't like them. We are civilised. We won't use our guns to aid our brothers and fall into the trap Charleroi has set up. No, we will aid them legally and we will attack this law at the supreme court of Sylvania. If they want to limit immigration, that is their option, but if they would have been well indented, they would have made it more strict to have only very well skilled workers come in, whereas now we only see malicious racism, effectively barring Nethians and Aurophones.

What will happen tomorrow, after this? Deportations? Exterminations of those who are already living there but are Nethian?

Dear Director Farady,

The hearts of the Aurarine People hurt the day of the shooting at the Century IV Shopping Mall. To think that such a place, where teenagers spend their weekends and families go to buy a wide assortment of goods, can be turned from such a pleasant environment to one where thirty-six innocents souls could lose their lives. Such a display of savagery is unthinkable in a society as advanced and democratic as the Continental Republic of Sylvania.

In such incidents of great tragedy, often the most critical step is to come together as an entire country to find strength in our fellow man. There are oft stories told of how Sylvania is a nation built from the dejected communities of over countries coming together for the sole, unique goal of a peaceful and free life. It's a beautifully romantic story that rightly gave birth to one of the world's best democracies.

Yet, even in such a society, racism is allowed to flourish. To suggest that the actions of the perpetrators of the Century IV Shooting somehow are caused by the mere existence of non-white peoples in Sylvania is so far removed from sensibility and rationality that we stunned such a man with such ideas could come close to elected office in the country.

The Aurarine Republic calls upon President Beckenridge to veto such a racist bill if it ever has the misfortune of coming close to his desk - for the good of civilized society.

In addition, we would like to remind Congressman Buckley that 63% of Sylvania's near 97,000 sexual assaults and rapes were committed by white men*. We would hope that similar immigration restrictions would be considered to protect Sylvania's women.

All the best,

DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS - STATEMENT

Considering that the NRA is now considered a terrorist organization in its home country, a response to this ridiculous letter is beyond us, however we shall respond nonetheless. Our government is united in its determination to take all necessary measures to keep the Sylvanian people safe and free. The people in question are not citizens of the Continental Republic and therefore it is not our responsibility to extend these murderers and illegal immigrants any sort of rights while within our country. Yet we do so because it is the right thing to do. The shooters will be tried, though I am sure the "Collective Presidency" will cry out that the trial will be a sham.

The illegal immigrants are afforded their time in court and are being given all necessary things needed to keep fed, watered and rested. Once we determine the best course of action they will be deported back to their country of origin. They are NOT in danger of extermination. The NRA shall not wield influence over our government, whether the bill passes or not is at the mercy of the will of the people of Sylvania and nothing will change that. With the deaths at Century IV and the recent deaths in the Camp Hill bombing by Nzadiland terrorists, the claims of false flagging made by the NRA are in poor taste.

DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS - STATEMENT

It is not the standard operating procedure for offices of the executive branch to comment on ongoing legislation, however for our friends in Auraria we shall do so in a limited manner. The bill introduced to the Continental Congress by Congressman Buckley, while not advertised as such, is a return to previous immigration standards that were changed in 1995 by the Democratic Socialists. The way Congressman Buckley has chosen to advertise his bill to supporters is regrettable, but is common to bring more attention to current legislation, or so I am told. While I will not comment on my own beliefs about this bill, many in Sylvania are supportive of these restrictions and do not believe them racist. It is well within the purview of the president to change these laws, however President Breckenridge has deemed it better to allow the people to have a say in this matter and that has manifested itself in the form of Buckley's bill. We believe that this bill will be modified in some sense so as to be less restrictive, these things always happen within the legislative process. Nethian and non-white Aurarospeakers are welcome to come to Sylvania and will continue to be welcome in some form or another in the near future, that is, as long as they adjust themselves to the values that Sylvanians hold dear.

THE CHARLEROI TRIBUNE REVIEW
An End to a National Horror
Opinion
Harvey Bickle

For months the Sylvanian Republic has held their breath. After a moment of patriotic vigilantism uncovered the most horrifying scandal known to any nation and after a tribunal was convened, the Sylvanian people can now let out a sigh of relief. The Federal Tribunal on Cult Crimes has announced that all fifty two living high ranking members of the cult, including the former President, Jillian Snyder, have been found guilty on all counts of murder, kidnapping, pedophilia, money laundering, blackmail, corruption, and gross misuse of federal agencies.

Reactions among the guilty were a mix of blank stares, crying and angry shouts. Jillian Snyder was reported to have gone into a manic rant at the announcement, making little sense and appearing to some as held by some sort of demonic entity, were such a thing possible. However the court did not wait for these reactions to end before delivering it's second and final blow: sentencing. The Prosecution motioned the court to expedite sentencing, rather wait the usual ninety days. Seeing no reason to extend the process, having seen the extent of the horrid crimes and despite the defense's furious objection, the court delivered its sentence: Death by firing squad for all fifty two defendants. While this federal tribunal has come to a close, minor members are still tried within their own states, some trials are nearing their end. We can only hope that the verdict of the tribunal will make the juries of these other courts see that these people must be punished to the fullest extent possible to include capital punishment.

This has been hailed a victory for the people of Sylvania, yet despite the happiness of all those who have followed this case closely, despite the modicum of closure for those affected first hand by the cult, a wariness remains. Could it happen again? Sylvanians are vigilant now, but what might happen if that vigilance wanes? The lessons here is that it cannot wane and that Sylvanians must be ready to defend themselves to the last, that they must be ready to take action where others might not. To be lulled into a sense of comfort because of this victory would be the greatest defeat that could come to us. Sylvanians must put it into their minds forever: never again. To forget that could leave open the possibility for more unscrupulous behavior. Perhaps then a new motto for Sylvania must be made, one that will remind us that we must always be on guard against evil.

THE CHARLEROI TRIBUNE REVIEW
War Dead Discovered During Construction
Jarred Herman

Charleroi is known to people by a few different names, but on frequent occasions it is known to its citizens as the City of the Dead. With three different conflicts fought within the confines of the city limits it is not uncommon to find the bodies of dead soldiers and sometimes revolutionaries when undertaking construction and excavation projects. With the construction of the Findlay connector northern bypass addition to I-101, a project that promises to finally complete the bypass ring around the city, excavation for the road began at the start of 2019. The demolition and excavation of an old aluminum plant gave way to the discovery of fifteen dead bodies. At first the Charleroi Metropolitan Police Force thought the bodies may be in connection with a crime family that operated in the area during the 1930's but with the discovery of rusted military armaments scattered through the area meant that the bodies could only be that of war dead from the war between Sylvania and Pohjanmaa in the 1950's.

With the discovery of these bodies, construction was immediately stopped and a team of forensic archeologists from the University of Charleroi and a investigative unit from the Continental Army was called in to catalogue and identify the dead from military records. Fifteen bodies were found, two Fiannian, five Sylvanian and seven Pohjanmaan. The bodies were found in close proximity to each other, some right on top of the other, suggesting brutal hand to hand fighting. Marks upon the bodies suggest point blank gun fire and bayonet usage. The Findlay area was known, during the Second Siege of Charleroi, as a meat grinder for fighting men on both sides of the conflict. Official death tally reports that over 20,000 died in the area, but unofficial reports say that number could be much higher. Among the dead were a large number of war artifacts collected and catalogued for further study. The names of the dead have yet to be released but both the Fiannian and Pohjanmaan governments were contacted upon the discovery as required by stipulations in the peace treaty that requires the bodies of the soldiers who fought in the war to be returned to their home nation. The families, who are to remain anonymous until they take possession of the dead, were also notified. Once the investigation is complete all fifteen will be returned to home to be laid to their final resting places as honored dead.

This committee considers the discovery of patriot war remains to be a matter of utmost importance. We trust but none the less insist that our Sylvanian counterparts carefully document precise positioning and evidence of the site - one which may shed light and empower the prevailing reality of the Pohjan Empire's war of offense and oppression, and a Sylvo-Fiannian defense of libertarian democracy. We look forward to finding relatives and the hometown of our boys, but we believe the site must be preserved and studied until a factual understanding is gleaned from the site.

The Ulkoministeriö wishes to express the astonishment of such a discovery. The events of the Second Great Northern War, undoubtedly given many other names by various parties, are a black stain on the history of Pohjanmaa. The fact that in such short time our nations, Pohjanmaa and Sylvania, which were often at odds over the course of history in both union and opposition can now be considered allied nations under the DDI umbrella is a triumph to the work of our leadership and our commitment to democracy.

This story of fallen combatants is one that is of great interest, but not one that brings us pride.

These soldiers will be brought back to Pohjanmaa and buried among the tomb of the unknown soldiers unless documentation as to their identity can be found. This will be done without ceremony, but open to the public.

It is the hope of Göötehamina that our governments can continue to work in friendship and if any resources from Pohjanmaa can be of help, we offer our support as always.

THE CHARLEROI TRIBUNE REVIEW
Selling Sylvania at Forefront of Axiflos 2020.
By: Beatrix Newell

Axiflos 2020 is already shaping up to be the most important summit of the year as the Sylvanian delegation arrives ahead of the President in the mildly warm and sunny capitol of the island nation of Aresura. President Breckenridge will arrive Tuesday night to discuss global policy and security, more importantly his mission will be to keep Sylvanian defense industry at the forefront of allied conversation as standardization and streamlining is discussed. Sylvanian defense contractors have stated they are ready to supply the Democratic Defense Initiative with its military needs and are willing to work with allied contractors to create better weapons systems. Analysts have noted that there might be some friction between Shinkyô and Sylvania about were and what military items are built, jobs could possible be on the line depending on what is decided in Axiflos.

Spending is also at the forefront of the agenda at Axiflos 2020, Dictator Hayabusa's wishes for more contributions from Pohjanmaa in the form of responsibilities and spending has been the talk of recent leaks of Axiflos summit agenda. The Breckenridge administration has been mostly mum on the subject. Previous administrations have not pushed for more from Pohjanmaa and the track record for Sylvania has been to pick up where there might be slack on the Thaumantic and Gothic sea side of things. However previous administrations have been vocal about the status of Nedernesia and Pohjanmaa's vow to protect the small island nation should it be attacked. Seen as a weak point in the DDI's armor, a war involving Nedernesia involves Pohjanmaa and could drag the entire alliance with it. The question that will be debated at the summit will be if it's worth the risk and expense of formally extending membership to Nedernesia in an era where streamlining and costs are at the top of DDI concerns.

Justosian Observer Status a Failing of ODS.
Opinion by: Harvey Bickle

There can be no doubt that the Democratic Defense Initiative is by far the most ardent supporter and defender of democratic ideals on this planet, for the last thirty years that has been God's honest truth. However now there is the Organization of Democratic States on the world stage, an alliance and common market between Johnston Island, Lars and Eiffeland-Retalia. For a time it seemed that this small organization, working in the name of the democratic ideals we all hold dear could be another proud voice for freedom and liberty, that is until they granted Justosia observer status. Everyone knows that observer status will one day mean membership at least on a junior level. Justosia has been nothing but a nuisance on the world stage with it's impromptu fleet maneuvers, outrageous military expenditure for "defense" needs, bipolar foreign policy and a legislature that seems to act in lock step with their monarch.

For how could one be dedicated to the ideals of democracy when the government nationalizes its industries to build military weapons at a fever pace to defend against enemies that seem to exist nearby in the mind of a raving madman emperor. It does not seem to me that the legislature in Justosia cares much about what the people they represent think or how they might suffer from these decisions. Instead they would rather please their madman emperor and his floozy wife, who parades herself around as a supporter of peace and freedom. For the ODS to admit these hawkish fools into their organization, even as an observer is a failure, a failure to democracy. Luckily the DDI continues to be the paramount protector of peace, freedom and the democratic way.

In other news:

  • Jupiter Aerojet Corporation reveals a series rockets designed for manned space flight. The Continental Congress is still mulling over use of public funds for manned space exploration.
  • Elections in Strathclyde scheduled for January 31st, will sectarian violence flare up in Ulster? Breckenridge government has stated they are watching closely.
  • Pohjanmaan electronics dominate Sylvanian consumer markets. Touzen companies close second.
  • Charleroi neighborhoods see annoying uptick in Fiannian proselytizers.
  • Worrying rise in youths impartial to Leninovism. Could Kadikistani internet trolls be the problem?

Holy Dawn (Christian Mission Activists)

Sylvania was founded as a Christian nation by Christian founders who divined a constitution passed down from the heavens. If reminding our brothers and sisters of this in Charleroi is considered annoying - we welcome this label and vow to be an annoyance to those who deny this nation’s profoundly Christian roots.

THE CHARLEROI TRIBUNE REVIEW
In Brief

  • Sylvanian athletes fight their way through difficult competition at the Games of the Seventh Apolloniad. Madeline Fitzpatrick, shoots her way to the top over fellow competitor Caroline Ashley to advance to the third round of the Archery Competition. Meanwhile Lucas Hawking struggles to best Aurarian Abigail Sanchez winning two and tying once to advance. Will Sylvania, usually dominate in the shooting sports, be able to make it all the way? Tune to your local sports channel to see Madeline Fitzpatrick take on the communist Kadiki in archery. (Apolloniad schedules found at TeamSylvania.syl)
  • The 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment out of Fort Walker in the Sutherland region of Strathclyde has taken positions within the Free City of Moira in Ulster ahead of scheduled elections in the region. Sectarian violence threatened to postpone the elections until the Strathclyde government asked the Sylvania to act as a neutral security force. CAFiS (Continental Armed Forces in Strathclyde) units will bolster the already heavy police presence in the region until the elections have been completed.
  • Tribune political analysts report rumors that Nedernesia and Fianna will engage in side panel discussions with representatives of the Democratic Defense Initiative meeting in Axiflos.
  • In rural Sylvania, anthracite is still king. Coal sales for home heating rise two percent so far this winter as temperatures plummet across the country.
  • The Continental Air Force 52nd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron to track possible extratropical cyclone that could become a nor'easter this late weekend. Federal Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency warns Sylvanians to prepare for possible heavy storms affecting much of coastal eastern and north eastern Sylvania.

We read Mr. Bickle's opinion on the observer status in the ODS of Justosia with interest. We have to remind him of the fact that Justosia underwent a substantial regime change. The emperor who caused so much instability has left the stage, and his son as well. The country has become a constitutional monarchy. That is the reason why we granted it observership. Please also note that Pelasgia took up diplomatic ties with Justosia again; that should be a clear sign that something has changed in Justosia.
We want to reassure that we continuously monitor the actions of our observers with interest. If the government of Justosia takes a decision that could provoke other countries, we will certainly warn. However, at this moment, Justosia deserves a second chance on the international stage.

The Continental Empire of Justosia appreciates the Eiffelander message of general support. However it is with the utmost respect we remind our old ally that Justosia has been a Constitutional Monarchy since 1850 when His Royal Majesty, King Ferdinand Francisco II, ascended the creation of the Senate de Nationale with his signature.

As Eiffellanders close to their king may know, the crown weighs heavy. The responsibility of being God's Steward on Earth is a mighty one. Emperor Carlos Francisco I ended Justosia's isolation, rebuilt our military, & made Justosia a player again on the European stage. He did the hard, controversial work. He laid the groundwork for his successor. His beloved wife.

His Imperial Highness Prince Carlos Francisco III has publicly admitted that he is bisexual. While we still love, adore, & respect this courage, NJEC law upon coronation states a Justosian Crown Prince must be heterosexual. As most other succession laws also state.

No man, woman, or child save for Jesus Christ is perfect. Neither is any nation. Justosia will continue to evolve.

THE CHARLEROI TRIBUNE REVIEW
ODS Not Up to the Challenge.
Opinion by: Harvey Bickle

Recently I received a few letters about my last opinion piece on ODS and relationship with Justosia. These letters only confirm my beliefs about the inherent weaknesses of the ODS. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Eiffeland states that should if it's observer Justosia attempts to provoke other countries that they would be "warned." Who knows what that means, but in the end it goes to show that not even ODS founding members are so sure that what they have done is a good idea. If they cannot rely on even its most junior members to be a spear against the enemies of democracy, if they cannot rely on their observers not to provoke the enemies of democracy, then what can they be relied upon to do and by extension how can the world rely on ODS to be a defender of the democratic ideal?

While the ODS flounders about with policy and "soft" power moves, the members of the Democratic Defense Initiative are actively out on the front of the ideological war that democracy faces everyday. Sylvania and by extension the DDI has shown it is willing to put its money where it's mouth is by deploying security forces in Strathclyde to ensure the smooth function of democratic elections. The DDI is willing to use both soft and hard power to defend democracy as its founding mission states and it will continue to do so.

The Ulkoministeriö (Ministry for Foreign Affairs) is finding it a habit of Organization of Democratic States members and their affiliates to hold sharp tongues in brash criticism of the free press in Democratic Defense Initiative states. These events not withstanding, it is your right to criticize an opinion. Such is the nature of the marketplace of ideas that our Commonwealth of Pohjanmaa holds so dear. We affirm this marketplace with our elections, and our free press.

Ideas not withstanding, I am making it publicly known that the Eiffelland-Retalian Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Pohjanmaa is being summoned to explain for the sharp words of your Minister of Foreign Affairs and Extraordinary Ambassador for the Italophone minority, Gianluigi di Gravesano-Caroline. It is a pointed insult at the countless deaths of not only Sylvanians, but also Pohjanmaan peoples. We remind the Ambassador that the war in Strathclyde was a war of defense against the aggressive Manx regime which committed weapons of mass destruction against Pohjanmaan civilian populations.

As the Foreign Minister is correct in asserting, the war was won. The peace has brought us hope with a democratic Strathclyde that has just executed fresh and successful elections. Sectarian violence remains a concern in our neighboring friend, but our commitment to their peace and security is unwavering.

I have the impression that my remark is currently interpreted in a way that I never intended it to be interpreted. This puzzles me, because I really don't know how a remark about loosing the peace after winning the war can be considered an insult to the soldiers fighting in that war.
In any case, it was definitely not my intention to insult the soldiers fighting in the war in Strathclyde. On the contrary, I have much respect for the fact that soldiers risk their lives and healths when they defend the peace.
What I did want to emphasize, is that a war will have been fought for nothing if not enough attention is paid to the aftermath. I made that remark because Mr. Bickle tends to ignore that fact.

Sylvania Reaffirms DDI Commitments at Axiflos 2020

While there was no open question of Sylvania's commitments prior to the Axiflos summit; in the wake of troubles that led to the rise of the Breckenridge administration, the Sylvanian delegation has reaffirmed its commitment to the defense agreement.

"There can be no mistake going forward, Sylvania marches side by side with Pohjanmaa and the Anti-State. Whether it is in the frozen mountains and valleys of Pohjanmaa or on the vast expanse of the Anti-State, we will be there to defend our friends, no matter what."

Breckenridge Caught on Hot Mic at Axiflos.

While speaking to members of the Pohjanmaan Delegation, President Breckenridge was caught making critical comments about Prime Minister Finlay of Strathclyde. Here is a transcription of those comments:

"I don't think the doc's got it in him"....Inaudible..."he's not taking the growing unrest in Ulster seriously"... Inaudible..."too busy celebrating his win"...Inaudible..."you checked dagerrogram lately? Look at this!"

The President's office declined to comment and told us a statement would be prepared when the President has returned from the summit.

CHARLEROI TRIBUNE REVIEW

Justosian Ambassador and Diplomatic Mission Ejected.

It was to be like any usual diplomatic meeting, but that was not what had happened, instead, after having been invited to discuss matters of national import, the Justosians then lead with threats and pledges to increase fleet deployments into the North Silk Sea. Director Katalin Faraday of the Department of Foreign Affairs commented for the Charleroi Tribune Review:

"We invited them to discuss security matters in the Silk Sea and the growing threats of communism, however still incensed by their rejection by the ODS they began threatening Sylvania and the DDI nations saying that we were attempting to block them in and destroy their fledgling empire. Their Ambassador made threats against Sylvania, the President and the DDI alliance. It was then I ended the meeting and with the President's agreement we ejected the Justosian delegation. Furthermore we shall be ending diplomatic ties with the Justosian tyrants and revoking visas for any Justosian in Sylvania at this time. The Justosian embassy staff and Justosian citizens will have one week to make arrangements to leave Sylvania by whatever means or they risk detainment and deportation."

Indeed it seems that the Justosian Empire has becoming increasingly more unhinged in the past few days after their rejection by the Organization of Democratic States. Just what this means for worsening relations between Sylvania and the Justosian Empire, we must wait and see.
