The doors to the cell opened and the officers threw in Maria Quintette, she had been arrested for protesting in the cities main plaza without a permit and as soon the police knew they were on there way and she was arrested. Her goal was known to many she wanted to change what she called 'The Difference', ever since she had been a young child she had notice how different the upper class Mehldorfean immigrants were treated compared to the poorer natives and it had really changed her, her father wanted her to be a doctor as did her mother but she threw that all out the window to fight for her cause. On her 18th birthday she gave away all the gifts she had received angering her parents above and beyond, they threw her out onto the streets and left her there, it was here that she developed her friendships and decided that she had to really do something instead of just feeling bad about it.

It was a winters morning in New Danebourg City and the Quintette family servant was getting there youngest daughter, Maria, ready to go out with her mother, once she had got the child ready she took her down the stairs to her mother who was waiting at the door "Urghh, took you long enough to get her ready didn't it" her mother exclaimed as she handed the child over to her before putting her on the floor and walking out onto the streets. They shut the door, locking it to ensure the servant couldn't get out before heading off.

They set off walking down the packed street with her mother stopping every minute or so to say "Hello" or "How do you do?" to various people along the way but then they reached a part of the street filled with people of native descent and her mother seemed to turn icy cold storming through them all and acting as if they were nothing to her, in the corner of her eye Maria saw a young girl around her age playing down an alleyway filled with rubbish "What's the matter with her, mummy" she asked, her mother replied "Oh, them, they're just, just forget about them, they...they don't matter to us or this country, okay darling" and that was it but Maria knew something darker must be going on and her intrigue led her to learn more and more.

Earlier That Day...

Maria sat in the kitchen of her apartment preparing for her protest at the square, she knew the threats, she knew people here hated change and that her presence would cause major issues but she didn't care she was ready to stand up for the rights of those who couldn't do it themselves. She had made a protest sign which she could hide until she reached her destination, she also had a photo with her which she crumpled up and put into her pocket, it was of her and her family because she knew once she'd done this they could never see her again. She opened the door and locked it and set off, similarly to what happened on that day she was first inspired to fight for her cause.

Maria had set off walking down the crowded streets, to some they were an annoyance but to her they were endearing, they reminded her of life. She ran to the bus stop to catch her bus down to the plaza, looking around she felt good about herself, like maybe she could change what was happening. When the stop came up she hopped off and made her way to the square she passed all the secure points made her way to the centre before pulling out her protest sign and a small pot which she had put a label on the side of, it read "For those who we have oppressed for too long". Now she would begin her protest.

Maria started chanting "Help those who we have oppressed" and everyone seemed to just look on, a group of women were walking past and they laughed at her as they did, "What an idiot" they whispered among themselves before continuing on and laughing. A police officer was on his beat nearby when he heard the shouting and came over, he rang for the police immediately and went over to her "Madame, please can you remove yourself from these premises", "WHY" she shouted back "It's a free nation isn't it" she carried on with her chanting. Little did she know the storm was to come, a van carrying six or so policemen pulled up and they jumped out tearing her sign down and grabbing her beating her and shoving her into the back of the van before climbing in themselves and carrying on, all that was now left was the empty tin with the label on the side.

The Burning Injustice

Grand Sultan Besphmet Mosque
Tariq
Mehldorfean Himyar

The call to prayer was heard throughout the streets of Tariq as over a thousand people gathered at the largest mosque in Mehldorfean Himyar, Grand Sultan Besphmet Mosque, on the River Hades. The streets were jam packed as they all began to pray. The prayers were read out and the people enjoyed a time to connect with there god and to bring peace to there mind. The Imam continued the prayers and everything was calm, this was unusual as usually there was unrest caused by Christian Immigrants from mainland Mehldorf. It seemed that maybe the Imam's hopes for no christian protesters weren't the right hopes though as sirens sounded in the distance and grew ever closer.

Right in the middle of the prayers around ten police cars and three police vans showed up. Riot police jumped out of the vans and started attacking the prayer goers and throwing them out of the way. Hundreds ran off whilst some brave souls stayed to end there prayers. Armed with guns the men looked scary as they stormed inside the mosque and arrested the Imam dragging him out as he called out the final prayers. The men and children attending prayer looked on horrified as the Imam was dragged to the van being beaten by riot police as he calmly accepted what was happening. This was just another burning injustice in Mehldorf's society he thought to himself.

A Few Hours Later...

The mosque was now under heavy police lock down and all prayers had been restricted. Thousands of precious artefacts had been removed and a sign had been put up announcing the pending demolishment of the mosque. A building that had stood for over a thousand years was now going to be knocked down as it's worshippers feared for what was next. The Government of the Colony had become increasingly strict over the past few years with a group of wealthy Christians ruling the colony unchallenged by the central government in Wilhelmsstadt. There had to be a way to end this.
