Agents find a Colonist meat & cigarettes smuggling ring

Today, following thorough intelligence work, reportedly assisted extensively by the small Jewish and Muslim communities of Niyabinghi, half a dozen enforcers accompanied by a force of communal officers, arrested two white colonists in the Shiloh neighbourhood and confiscated stashes of meat and cigarettes; Fifty kilograms of pork meat as well as about three hundred cigarette packs were found. While a first violation, its 'public' nature forced a punishment on the colonists - a public court has sentenced them to six months of community service as well as a fine of 5,000 Browns.

Since the Uprising (or the Upression) tentative legal codes on the possession, importation and production of non-Ital foods and beverages have been enacted. Among the Bredren many know that the only meat to be allowed in the freed New Zion is fish, but out of a desire to come to peace with the Muslim & Jewish communities of Arab ancestry in the city of Niyabinghi (formerly Jackson) and generally around the country, as well as taking into consideration the less-observant Bredren, the consumption of meat other then pork (whom Jews and Muslims do not eat) has been allowed in the mean time, so long as the sale and consumption of meat is not done publicly. Importation is also strictly forbidden. Liquor faces similar restrictions, as well as tobacco products of any kind; owing to the recognition that many have grown accustomed to consuming tobacco, it is legal to grow tobacco in a private setting for one and his immediate environment, but organising chains of distribution (namely middlemen) and the importation of tobacco is strictly illegal. Also, smoking tobacco in public places is now an offense.

The Christian colonists that remained after the Uprising, around five thousand or so, primarily in the capital of Niyabinghi, claim this is yet another attack on their lifestyle, and say they will leave soon after the Emigration Tax requirements are lifted - any colonist seeking to sell his property when he leaves must pay ninety percent tax on the sale, and only sell the property to Bredren. Also, colonists must sell their property before leaving as any unsold property will be confiscated. After much protest by white colonists, Asfaw Solomon (also John Tarsus), the chosen Niya Ras, organised a rally outside the white neighbourhoods, claiming; "Your fathers brought my fathers to here poor and you've kept them poor, and now you will leave this place poor."

All of these codes were enacted by the newly convened Parliament, now filled with mostly black representives. Because an election has yet to take place, two representatives were sent from each city neighbourhood, as well as one from each plantation or village. Also participating were delegates from the Arab community in the capital (Arab and Jewish) and senior members of the Upression Front, the violent arm of the revolution. It was also rumoured that a colonist delegate is present, attempting to negotiate a collective emigration agreement. After establising these various new legal codes, the Parliament urged the nations of the world to support it and recognise the new nation, liberated of its colonist past.
