"He outstretched his hand and pulled us into modernity. He withstood torrents of, wrongful, international criticism. He never bowed. Only to God's will that he return home to him. It's part of why I loved him so. Until we meet again, my Emperador."

This was part of his eulogy. It was surreal. The procession passed the Military Police checkpoint into the Government Quarter. It was drizzling. Almost a mist. As the balmy breezes watched the sun set. Truly Justosian. The palace was mere minutes away. There Carlos Francisco II will be entombed forever. Their subjects had not seen him since he started chemotherapy. She wouldn't allow it. No. They'll remember him the right way.

Her son looked numb, bored. She suspected he may have been drinking prior. One problem at a time. As Holiness Temporal of the state church she was required to lead the procession from the senate where he laid in state, back home to the royal catacombs. She went through the motions, still hoping to wake up. Behind her walked Bishops, Imperial Guard, & the Grand General of the army. She knew some of them were already looking past her, to her son. She had ordered the borders closed during the recent conflict. His passing had tragically good timing.

Now the borders were open again & the news resumed. Talon fighters roared overheard. Flying low. Another reminder of how much the military nearly worshipped him.

"Tell them to stop that. Those pilots take a liberty too many."
