President Rasul Ershatov and the Kurkhazian Liberation Movement

By Asygul Yerbolova, Junior Journalist

Hailing from the pastoral plains of the Great Kurkhazian Northeast, Rasul Ershatov broke with convention last year when he, a General of the Kurkhazian Republican Army, abandoned the strictly conservative 'Eternal Horde' political movement in favor of an unusual and unheard of political clique: the Kurkhazian Liberation Movement or KLM. Resembling an irregular militia, KLM has taken advantage of highways and rail to "brigade" democratic demonstrations of rival movements. In Kurkhazia, where democratic conventions are held as often as weddings or funerals in small towns and large cities to decide matters of public importance, decisions are decided by public headcounts or in "beading tents" where colored beads are deposited one at a time in boxes to determine a candidate or issue.

Whether public or anonymous there is one constant presence in Kurkhazian Kurultai (democracy): armed intimidation. As historically when Kurkish Hordes elected warlords, military officers muster their troops to act as a physical presence before important votes to guarantee the result. This stranglehold from the Kurkhazian Army on democracy was naturally released however during the Great War when these meddling officers and their troops were actively engaged or entrenched opposite of the Tarusan Empire. In their stead an alternative democratic machine arrived: KLM, whose funding and precise origins remain difficult to ascertain.

Previous investigations by the Free Beacon have suggested that KLM was founded and propagated by the Achmedenov Mob, whose leader Marlen Achmedenov was recently pardoned by President Ershatov for dodging the draft and evading police throughout the war. Our investigators further believe that, at least at first, it was Achmedenov's thugs that intimidated the Kaliga Kurultai into accepting the Empire of Tarusa's white peace offer. A day later General Ershatov resigned his post and rapidly returned to the nation's capital to begin his unprecedented climb to civil power.

KLM organizes itself as an informal if-not alternative military structure, complete with Liberation Officers, Cadets, and Commandos. All that seems to be missing from both Ershatov and KLM is a consistent ideology beyond growth and self-preservation against the Eternal Horde. On one day Ershatov can be quoted as being for the homosexual liberty reforms taking place in Kaliga, yet on the next day he is front and center with KLM blocking such reforms at conventions elsewhere in the country. Critics posit that Ershatov is merely taking advantage of the technological culture lag that still exists in Kurkhazia where villages and entire regions of the country are rarely reached by newspapers or radio stations, and that when KLM shapeshifts from town to town they are none the wiser. As the nation modernizes and citizens gain private radio access President Ershatov will be forced to develop a more consistent nationwide platform if he hopes to maintain a grip on power.

MORE THAN JUST A GAME
The Kurkhazian King Killer

"One by one I destroy them, these white pawns" a Kurkhazian girl explains across the table from me. She pushes her Queen out as bait before quickly withdrawing her and defeating my Rook with her Knight. Mirgul Ravileva is an orphan at the 62nd Refuge for Unclaimed Children (RUC), one of over a 110 in the nation and growing since the end of the Great War. Children of the RUC are asked or assigned into specialty mentor programs towards domestic careers, or in Mirgul's case: the tutelage of shamed Aurarian chess wizard Nil Balderas. "Señor Balderas is paid to beat me," Mirgul says, "and when I can beat him I will be paid to travel the world and beat men like him - this is simple!"

ENTER THE CHICKEN
He Calls it the Family Feeder

Uncommon and condemned as Occidental, President Rasul Ershatov has designated the "Himyari Chicken" as the savior of "famine among families" in Kurkhazia. Touting the output of consumable and versatile yolk that the animal outputs, and the insects it consumes to survive, Ershatov challenged cattle wranglers and swine keepers to debate him in the open square. Ershatov obviously left the sheep and goat herder out of his ire: prolific producers of great milk, yogurt, and fiber for the nation. "Have you tasted the breast?" Ershatov asked a group of Liberation Militia followers, "should you not like it I challenge you to devour her thigh and tell me you are still a disbeliever!"

ROADS TO NOWHERE
Paid with taxes to where exactly?

Kurkhazia is rapidly becoming a more interconnected country with long stretching highways and railroads, but as the kilometres of open road extend this way and that some are finally starting to ask why and to where? While vanity re-pave projects towards coal mines are a pork belly given, other highways are angling northward and east through plains and valleys untouched by traditional villages or cities where only nomads roam. A major driver of these road projects seems to be the Kurkhazian Labor Union (KLU), which backed President Ershatov's Liberation Militias at the end of the Great War. These long roads to nowhere seem steal from the taxpayer if only to benefit bosses of KLU, including lieutenants of organized crime.

Liberty is never a given, it is a Practice

  • Kaliga Urban Battalions requesting "fast and unfailing" motor vehicles to sustain democratic response operations as horse and domestic motor solutions fail.
  • Relations with Tarusan "Imperial Rump" continue to breakdown, though President Ershatov validates them as a "dweller at the threshold of democracy".
  • 'Eggcentric' - Enter the Chicken mission at odds with goat herding purists who have opted to ship dung to the capital in response.
  • Kaliga Arts Community calling on donors to fund and facilitate "Kaliga Hermitage Museum" to facilitate Central European arts and heritage records.
  • 3 dead and 16 injured in "Anti-Democratic" protests, KLM claims responsibility for disposal and has registered enemies as "Great War Agitators" near Tarusan border.

Poster Text for the Second Revolution

Millions died and thousands will still wither as a result of democracy’s great stutter in the war throughout the world.

The Kurkhazian Horde still speaks because it was not defeated, The West’s chamber of nonsense barks up a fools tree, with leaves falling for the poor to gather.

KURKHAZIA FREE BEACON

BUILDING HOMES FOR COMMON SENSE
Report Verified for Truth by Department of Revolutionary Information

Villages across Kurkhazia are awash with men wearing unkempt beards, and those women who drink more vodka than these men. This is sad even for shop owners who lose more from theft than purchase of spirits. Homeless Veterans and unwanted wives are the true losers of the Great War among Brother Nations of Karzask, Kurhazia, and the treacherous sister of Tarusa.

While Commander President Ershatov is a master of long roads and sense common, the situation of homeless folk in urban and rural sprawls alike vexes him. "A human without a home is a wild horse," Rasul Ershatov wrote in his Blue Book pamphlet, "it will kick you in the head and trample your cabbage, because this is simple and well understood I will not elaborate further."

Orphanages have been the priority for Kaliga, with the majority of social welfares in the post war going to homeless children and single parent rumps. Now however the Kurkhazian Liberation Army wishes to press the adult homeless population into service, by forcing them into employment, or forcing them into yet to be constructed mass housing.

"They will build their own houses," Ershatov explained over radio this weekend, "I do not know why anyone finds this controversial? It is nearly winter and I will not allow these thousands to freeze in destitute when I could have made them make a barn to share warmth!"

Still, Ershatov's edict marks a major shift away from the anarchic root of his Kurkhazian Liberation where free association and individual rights were prioritized and cherished. Critics of well repute within the Liberation Army claim that "Ershatov is now polishing his Tsarist jewels," and that he "will plunge Kurkhazia into despotic rule as certainly as a wolf will murder an unprotected lamb."
