Commonwealth Naval Defence Force conducts training exercises in the Gothic Sea
Several vessels of the Commonwealth Naval Defence Force were involved in trainining exercises in the Gothic Sea, to the north of Andros, participating in traininging maneuvers and war games. In total twelve vessels were involved in the exercises, which included two frigates, three corvettes, and an assortment of several other smaller support vessels.

Two Corvis Class Corvettes
[/div]
Among the several warships involved were three Corvis Class Frigates, the most recent additions to the navy, which captured much international attention for their design and their stealth capabilities. Further two corvettes of this kind are expected to be delivered later this year by the Almstars Shipyards, while an additional one is expected to enter service in a few months. The acquisition of these warships has been the flagship of the government's defence policy.

The fact that these exercises have come at a time of growing volatily of diplomatic relations between the Rurikgrad Pact nations and its neighbours in Gallo-Germania has put it's purpose into questions. Critics have accused of this being an ill-timed military exercise at a time when the country should be exercising contention in its diplomatic relations, as the exercises could be misconstrued as a show of force and put Andros in its neighbours crosshairs.

The spokesperson for the navy however assured that these military exercises were a normal part of maintaining a capable military force, which is a right afforded to all sovereign nations, and that it was undertaken fully within the boundaries of international law and good sense. Several days ago it was also announced that several regiments of the National Volunteer Army would be participating in exercises around the Osvalis county.

The Dual Monarchy, that of which includes the Crowns of Tyskonia and Petits-Pays and their united crowned peoples wish to convey appreciation for the serious understanding of Gothic Sea security. While the drumming or perhaps distant humming of war may sound off between the Rurikgrad Pact and Socialist Gallia, the Empress and Queen Marie-Charlotte wishes to convey her supreme assurance that the Gothic Sea and the region that surrounds Andros will remain open for commerce and without threat.

Mit herzlichen Grüßen,

Calls for scannian unity amidst growing tensions
As tensions in mainland gallo-germania increase so do the demands for military preparedness at home. However recent developements in neighbourhing Pohjanmaa and nearby Strathclyde have seen the growth of tensions nearer to home, and amidst growing fears that the gothic sea and the scannian channel might become a conflict zone between the navies of Ivar and Villesen, some have argued that the government hasn't done nearly enough to bring up the nation to the same levels of military preparendess as its neighbours.

However some dissenting voices have appeared amidst the calls for heightened militarization and have called for instead closer cooperation within Scannia. Demokraticfolkbann's representative Ervin at Arnell called for further cooperation with Pohjanmaa, Strathclyde and Nedernesia during yesterday's legislative synod's session - "[...] it is quite befuddling that there has never been closer cooperation between the scannian nations, but it is evern more befuddling that at an opportunity like this this country has yet to take charge of that initiative [...]"-

Critics have however dismissed the notion that further cooperation within Scannia would be preferable, particularly when neighbouring Pohjanmaa has also sought alliances elsewhere, among the post-delegationist hosts in Sylvania and the Anti-State, and instead argue that instead Andros should focus on seeking, much like it's neighbour has done, support abroad, even if seeking to do so in gallo-germania would surelly have Andros become entangled in the current continental crisis.

reactie op openbaar nieuws | response to public news

The Commonwealth of Nedernesia, now under the new coalition government of Senior Minister Melinda Weldaad and her EPP (Equity and Prosperity Party) have also internally been discussing the strange status quo of Scania, particularly the lack of interstate cooperation, most notably on economic and trade affairs and secondarily on matters concerning joint security. Naturally such issues are delicate and require ample discussion, research and debate.

Perhaps a first step towards fostering greater Scanian cooperation has already been taken as Andros has graciously offered Nedernesia vital assistance in the race to save lives from yesterday's earthquake and tsunami. Can interstate humanitarian aid be part one in a series of gradual regional cooperation and synthesis?

We hope to discuss this further with our colleagues in Andros.

Chief Secretariat of Foreign Affairs
Chefsekreteriet at Utlandfarse

International cooperation is the guiding principle of our foreign policy, but it has unfortunately been our failure to foster closer ties with our dear neighbours, to the detriment of the peoples of all our nations, until now. We will gladly answer any calls for the strengthening of ties between regional partners and friends.

We hope that further cooperation comes in times of equal prosperity more often than they come in times of need and loss of human lives, but we will always be open to offer aid to those in need. It is saddening that we are offered the respite from international tensions at the cost of a tragic event, but we look forward for more nations following suit in aiding Nedernesia, and hopefully answering the call for scannian unity.

To offer respite from the tragic events in your homeland, should your government be willing, we would cordially invite a nedernesian delegation to Londo to discuss further on matters of not just humanitarian aid, but economic and diplomatic cooperation, and any other issue that your government should choose to discuss.

Citizen Assembly set to convene next month

The Synod has unanymoulsy approved a motion to convene the citizen council after a public petition reached the legislative chambers, scheduling the new session of the consultative body in two months. The petition called for the organization of a new session of the citizen council to discuss the reforming the electoral system, particularly in the aspect of permitting greater participation from independent politicans as the current party list system effectively bars independents from running in national elections.

The petiton was sponsored by the PolitiskReformMovement, a citizen organization closely related with the post-delegationist inspired Demokraticfolkbann party. Along with expanding the avenues for greater participation by independents, the petition also called for the abolishment of the nationa electoral districts, for the creation of more regional electoral district, shorter terms and the devolution of more powers to the county and local governments and councils. References to the monarchy are altogether absent.

Most parties sitting in the legislature have voiced their support of electoral reforms in the past, though seem cautious in supporting concrete reforms or the stated goals of the petition, which had recieved only the endorsement of the post-delegationists before arriving in the synod for deliberation.

With the citizen assembly being expected to have it's session start in two months, the selection process of its members is expected to start soon and those selected should be duly notified in no less than three weeks. Meanwhile legislators have also debated the addition of further points of discussion to the agenda of the citizen council.
