The Spallanzani Empire

The name Spallanzani was known throughout Cortona. Spallanzani changed Cortonan Business; in fact the Spallanzani Corp was the first corporation that could officially be called a Conglomerate. Starting from humble beginnings, the man now stands as the richest man in Cortona, a net worth of C$16 Billion. The Spallanzani Corporation had employed nearly 630,000 employees, making it the largest employer in Cortona. Spallanzani’s business philosophy was to buy and get involved in as much as possible.

In the 70s, the Great Recession had hit Cortona hard, and Spallanzani wanted to take advantage of it. He purchased many bankrupt companies, and most of all, bought thousands of shares in the stock market. When the recession ended and the economy came back, those shares regained their value and were sold for massive profits. Those massive profits then went to rebuilding those bankrupt companies. When these companies came to, by 1980 the Spallanzani Empire formed.

Today, the Spallanzani Corporation is the father company of seven others. It works in retail, information technology, lumber, oil refining, medicines, cruise ships, construction, and sports equipment. In total, the Spallanzani Corporation’s assets equal C$160 Billion.

The Government has looked into the Spallanzani Corporation, some call it a monopoly. However, Spallanzani went to a great effort to be fair and legal, doing nothing shady. In 1997, he took 6 billion marks and divided it equally among all his employees, giving everyone C$9500. The company went into a horrific deficit for some time, but Spallanzani made no regrets.

Perhaps the most astonishing work was Spallanzani’s efforts in Napoli. Spallanzani built the first skyscraper in Napoli, which today stands as the second highest building in the city. He also used his own money to construct the Napoli Stock Exchange, which today is the biggest in Cortona. Other companies began to move into Napoli and Spallanzani gave huge loans to these companies to build their offices. Within ten years, Napoli was a booming, modern city, all due to Spallanzani.

Present

Spallanzani was sitting in his office, looking over some things. Napoli was hitting its afternoon hours; the orange sun turned Spallanzani’s office orange. For, one whole wall was a window. Spallanzani heard a knock on his door and allowed the person in. It was a member of the Board, asking why Spallanzani didn’t show at the meeting. Spallanzani took off his glasses, leaned back in his chair and smiled.

“Because, I have something very big planned,” he said.
