CONCERNS MOUNT AS MASSIVE STORM ON THE HORIZON
Meteorological Department predicts Cyclone on its way to batter southern coast

The Meteorological Department has announced that its data suggests that a major storm is developing in the South Thaumantic Ocean and expected to batter the southern coastline of Serenierre some time later this week. Already, the country has witnessed some of the strongest summer rains in the past decade and the impending cyclone is expected to cause significant damage in relation to subsequent flooding and wind damage.
Chief Minister Renaudierre has announced a period of emergency in the affected regions and informed all emergency services to be on high alert. The Commonwealth Government has also issued warnings to vessels in the immediate vicinity of the Serenien coastline to immediately head for safe harbour. The Military of Serenierre has been placed on full service and is expected to fully be deployed to assist in the post-disaster rescue operations.
In a statement issued by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Commonwealth Government has called on assistance from the international community to assist Serenierre in the looming disaster, as damage from the cyclone is bound to overwhelm emergency services in the country.
The Meteorological Department has named the storm as Cyclone Minerva.

HIM High Commissioner for the Far Southern Territories

Fort Antipas, 11 June 2020
Unclassified - Public - Normal

To whom it may concern,

The Pelasgian Throne's authorities in the Far South are prepared to render any aid necessary and possible to the Confederation of Serenierre, given the immense scale of the natural disaster currently gripping the country. Though our Colonial Administration is currently occupied with suppressing the domestic terror of the self-proclaimed Himyari People's Union, the Pelasgian Southern Himyari Company and the Administration understand the need for support that our neighbours must be going through. Many a Pelasgian whaler sheltered in Serenierre in the early days of the Far Southern Colonies, and we owe it to the Sereniens to repay this favour. To this end, we have authorized the transfer of several tonnes of perishables and basic cold-resistant clothing to Villesen airport via PSHC carriers, provided the local authorities accept this aid. We are also prepared to help in the post-disaster cleanup, and search and rescue efforts.

Signed and sealed,

Augoustinos Solomos
HIM High Commissioner for the Far South

CYCLONE MINERVA: Deaths at 6,000+, injuries at 21,000, missing at 31,100
Brèves battered by the force of Category 5 cyclone, as floods spread across western Serenierre

You must be registered for see images
The ongoing tragedy in Serenierre is beginning to yield concrete figures as the Chief Minister's Office released official numbers of casualties and injured people. With the worst of the storm over, it is now clear that the casualties and the damage to property have been the worst in recorded Serenien history.

As the sun rose on Brèves today, much of the city was flooded and the shanty towns on the outskirts had been gutted by the wind damage. It is estimated nearly all of the Kwazantaulo Township has been destroyed, leaving 25,000 people homeless. Further afield, the Namouto river has seen its banks burst all across the provinces of Coubron-Menegal and Villemarne-sur-Nebede, spreading considerable destruction in its wake.

The Chief Minister's Office has announced that the national emergency would continue in the two provinces during the post-disaster relief process. The Ministry of Defense informed the Assembly of Deputies that the two brigades from the Army had been deployed to the western provinces to assist and that aid and assistance would be coming from Pelasgia, Natal, Nedernie, Asteria, and Furlanie in the form of volunteers and evacuation teams. Chief Minister Renaudierre also announced that he would be establishing the "Chief Minister's Cyclone Relief Fund" which would be open to donations from all citizens of the country.

However, leader of the opposition Progressive Democratic League has already criticized the Government's handling of the country over its tenure, stating that its aversion to infrastructure development in the name of cost cutting had cost people their lives. "If we had made timely investments in the barrages and drainage canals all across Coubron-Menegal, we would not have seen these massive floods. Yet again, the Liberal Democratic Alliance has put the interests of the rich above those of the people."

REPÚBLICA AURARIA
MINISTERO DE ASUNTOS EXTERIORES

28 Hortia CCI | 16 de Junio de 2020

The Honorable Guillaume de Vollenhoven
Minister
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Confederation of Serenierre

Minister de Vollenhoven,

The loss of six thousand lives and the undue hardship brought upon tens of thousands more weighs heavy on the Republic.

For any nation-state that seeks to value human life and beliefs firmly in the pursuit of happiness as its highest calling, the terror of Cyclone Minerva is a terror to us all. In order to lessen the burden on the Serenien people and assist in their speedy recovery, the President of the Republic has authorized the deployment of the Hospital Ship-Guardián del Mar to Brèves to assist in medical efforts.

The ship’s 800 patient capacity will be complemented by medical teams employed by both the Aurarine Republican Armed Forces and civilian entities. In addition, teams will be deployed to assist in search and rescue operations for the more than 30,000 missing.

To ensure the safety of the Guardián del Mar and provide for additional materials needed to successfully complete the mission, the Republic is requesting permission from the Serenien Confederation to deploy the destroyer ARA Vincente to provide escort.

It is our mission to assist the Confederation during this difficult time. Upon your approval, the Republic will – with haste – make the necessary arrangements to deploy the fleet. We estimate it will arrive within a week’s time.

Signed,

Ravages of Cyclone Minerva shake nation to core
The Confederation of Serenierre has suffered some of the most devastating harm from Cyclone Minerva earlier in the summer. Many thousands of people have lost their homes and a number of barrages, dams, and levies have been destroyed or damaged. Chief Minister Renaudierre has stated that his Government will not allow the opposition to hold the Confederal Government back from taking the emergency steps needed to rescue the country from ever increasing suffering.
