BREK'N KNOW :- COMPENSATORY ALMSKEEPING

Nieveland's single congressional body (the Almshouse) has retired for Christmas recess until 3 January, and the annual Democratic Revival remains hazy on the horizon at 4 months away. Still, Almskeeper Aelis Pherson and thousands of other Socialist Republic comrades remain engaged in public service despite the "stand-down" typical of her decades-spanning predecessor. Indeed, Pherson used somehow perpetually activated Almsforces to crush the Snowdrivers Union strike on Christmas Eve by pressing soldiers into trucks, and suspending the Union's status as recognized by the Socialist Republic until the mostly elderly and already pensioned seasonal drivers capitulated.

Meanwhile, the Landscapers Union (likewise containing seasonally working pensioners) is taking both notes and aim at the freshman Almskeeper who faces her first incumbent test this spring. "Lady Aelis can spin she saved Christmas, but what ken when the red roses don't bloom for the Resurrection & Revival?" Union Rep. Don Harlee asked in a lengthy Twatter diatribe against the Almskeeper. "Seasoned thumbs do keep these lands bonnie, not yer' fetched boots nor cross threats!"

High from the Almskeeper's pulpit, Pherson fired back online asking the Senior Servants: "Won't you recollect your second-calling as servants to the next before reaching out to steal from the same?", a controversial sentiment with which Pherson rose to prominence in 2020. An appeal to freeze alms increases from traditional interests such as Senior Servants, who collect wages on top of a pension, by instead investing in Infant Reinforcement (childbirth incentive) and Social Connectedness programs (mobile and online capability) that lagged in the past two decades under Almskeeper Millar.

Pherson rode into Caitekurke upon the youth vote and quiet retirements from Millar mainstays, however, the backlash of seniors and Millarian holdouts promise a challenge this spring. A costly solution would be granting secondary pensions, the so-called double-dip, for opponents to disappear. But if this Christmas Crackdown from Almsforces is any indication of Pherson's path: the Almskeeper seems willing to fight where others gave in during decades past.

*TUNING INTO 1000 AM*

Megan Christie:
"Good morning to ye! You have indeed returned to the Breakfast Companion this 14th of January, and it's a cold blustery morning if can say so, but don't let me put ye off - I'm nigh from Cruffith where the West Wind beats Summer and ignores us in Winter! This morning we are joined by True Crime author Randal Ivell, he has penned yet another chronicle of one of Nieveland's most heart wringing mysteries: when in the winter of 1982 Sister Edith led three young 'Lady Regulators' on march to meet initiation with . . ?"

Randal Ivell: "Aye, it does seem rather complicated nowadays. In 2022 all Lady & Lord Regulators are expected to carry GPS chips, but you know, it was Sister Edith's mystery that concerned parents, the Church, and the State to make these things happen."

Megan Christie: "Why were they out then at night though, in the midst of winter mind younger listeners, why would a Sister of Church and State subject them to this?"

Randal Ivell: "Indeed, it is a ritual that has been toned down - but there was what the pre-Christian Nieves called 'Ceist'. Young boys and girls were guided into nature and left until they returned with a purpose."

Megan Christie: "Didn't some of them just, ye'kin, just die?"

Randal Ivell: "Aye, well - this was attributed to a walk with faeries. The gods or goddesses reclaiming a debt, and well, these supersitions blended with difficulty as populations grew on these islands with modernity. Today a missing woman and three children would not be brushed aside as a religious consequence, nor did most around the country view it as such in 1982 this way, but the early 80s represented a crisis for both Nievish Socialism and Catholicism and the two circled in together in consensus."

Megan Christie: "And what was that consensus, and why all these decades later do we not have an answer what happened to Sister Edith and the three?"

Randal Ivell: "Of course two parts of two two the children were recovered. Some years apart mind ye. Seana Cetag's remains were discovered first a few kilometers away from their expected path within days of their disapperance. This eschewed superstitions for a time and gave investigators some lead, but Catrina Leumanach's remains would not be discovered many many kilometers away along an unexpected path by hikers for almost a decade later."

Megan Christie: "And what of suspects. Is Lady Edith a suspect, why are we still without answers with her and the remaining child forty years later?"

Randal Ivell: "Twas not til 2016 that the Nievish Catholic Regulators agreed on a release on quote: "all known information on Sister Edith", and many true crime reporters do find the results disappointing. Sister Edith was born Edith McCann as the last child to the parents of revolutionaries. These sorts of stories are complicated as we cannot expect a wholesome result, can we?"

Megan Christie: "Ni'wecan, can we?"

Randal Ivell: "Edith did give birth once over in marriage, was divorced, and fell prey to addiction in those unfortunate sixties."

Megan Christie: "Did she consort with the devil, ye think?"

Randal Ivell: "I think not, no more than she flirted with faeries. I think Sister Edith was very lost in a time while the wilderness was still great on a cold and windy night before the GPS, and I sincerely doubt the demonic, UFO, faery, or capitalist abductor stories that propose anything other than what this was and is: the remains of two Niommonach remain missing where thousands have gone before. She was sober for at least a decade when she led young girls, as she had for five years before, into such woods. I do join you, I presume, and others in prayer for the missing child Ayla Ewcorke and Sister Edith as well as the deceased.

Megan Christie: "I de'join you and pose the investigation to continue on foot. This is our country, we can hoof it if those gals did, and I think we should find them!"

BREK'N KNOW :- SEARCHING FOR SAINTS

The Nievish Socialist Party regularly holds quarterly conferences to discuss infinite amounts of issues where researchers, laymen, politicians, and the clergy are asked to present data or theories on a given issue. In autumn the People's Conference discussed Birthing Incentives, wherein most prominently neuroscientists produced brain scan data on children who were raised in higher subsidy households versus lower ones that showed lower brain activity and development. In this most recent winter conference speakers were asked to discuss modern saints.

Veering away from the hard neurosciences, the winter conference saw a return of the clergy and studied sociologists wrangling with the issue of heroism and sacrifice in the 21st-Century. "I'm no saint, okay, I've sinned today and will again before this conference is through" Father Michael, a Marian Order professor at Saint Theo University told conference attendees, "I judge others for their politics and assume the worst, or I get jealous when someone has more or has achieved more than me."

Meanwhile, other clergy argued that feelings like that which Father Michael shared were normal and essential to saintly stories. "Father Michael is touched by Frankic and Germanic oversharing, volunteering one's inner conflict towards modern psychological figures and constructs where prayer to the highest has always been sufficient."

Next, Sociologists present at the conference rallied around a technological explanation for the absence of saints and heroes in modernity. "You've done one great thing, maybe even a few have ye?" Dr. Thomson from Caitekurk Communal College asked, "But today a potential saint has already sinned in cyberspace: they said the wrong thing, supported the wrong issue in their heroes journey."

Very few consensuses were reached in this winter conference, though Almskeeper Pherson (who sets conference topics) reminded speakers and viewers that this was very much the point. "I wanted us Niomonnach to reflect on what we value, discuss what the Europeans do, and to get closer to recognizing what a Saint or Hero looks like in Nieveland today."

BREK'N KNOW :- JUDGEMENT DAY APPROACHES

Aelis Pherson is walking a delicate tight rope towards this Easter's religious and national "Resurrection & Revival" holidays. Private polls have been banned for some decades now, so speculation as to how the Niomonnach will lean this year depends on a number of factors, Foremost is inner socialist party support from which most urban votes can be mobilized. Secondary are pressured votes from the remnant lords and ladies of the countryside who command an unignorable block every Easter. What is unique about this R&R is that an Almskeeper is in true threat of recall for the first time in decades.

Pherson approached the Alms as an agent of remnant lords and has served old money in many ways that offended many unions which exist within the state or church alone. Under state-run and sponsored media, it is difficult for alternative candidates to blossom. One such candidate is Mack Harris who commands a serious contingent of fishery unions. Less serious candidates include a bus driver, an electro-musician, and a mesmerist who claims Almskeeper Pherson laid with him in occult communion. These secondary candidates can expect ballot representation based upon sufficient petition backing, however they are not expected to attract the block votes typical to R&R. Libby Smart, the bus driver, holds the only legitimate block vote among them and she should be expected to dedicate the transportation block to either Pherson or Harris after sufficient wooing.

Pherson & Harris do not differ on foreign policy issues in any significant way, though Harris could be expected to drive Nievish fishing interests farther and wider than Pherson or previous Almskeepers. Instead, the issues at play within the homeland have to do with the classically unsettled dynamics of the commandant, lord, and priest issues manifest in regional politics. Pherson has been driving technological modernization in schools and industries with a particular lordist bend that has been dubbed "revanchist" in the Nievish context. It is argued by Harris supporters that most modern world technology actually consolidates monetary power despite presenting itself as socially universal. Indeed, Nieveland's relationship with online technology remains another primary issue at play.

The internal web of Nieveland is an infertile and oversowed ground of state propaganda. Pherson is aware of this and has called for revitalization that promotes school children to participate and develop in the next generation of Nieveland's inner web. Harris, meanwhile, is calling for harsher fines for importing foreign web materials not reviewed by the party. Regardless, neither candidate advocates that Nieveland participates in capitalist property constructs online. Should the online component of this bout be the deciding factor we expect Pherson to carry R&R over Harris because both capital and the modern sentiment of interconnectedness within the Nievish Spiritual Vision encourage wider communications. However, a perhaps just as wide contingent of voting age Niomonnach are uninterested in web education, commerce, or conversation that cannot be had in person.

*TUNING INTO 1000 AM*

Fern McGuire:
"Put the kettle on it's 6 A.M., shake off those cobwebs and rejoice as you have found the right station at the right time because we will be your breakfast companion this morning. Here's what's on the table:

*SNIPPETS OF AUDIO PLAY A TRAIN WHISTLE, CROWDS BOOING, AND FATHER HEUGHAN RECITING MATTHEW 19:23*

Fern McGuire:
"A promise made by Almskeeper Pherson in her bid for re-election has already potentially fallen through. A report from the Railway Union has essentially axed Lady Pherson's "Bullet Roundabout" network proposal by citing a technological gap, geographical hurdles impossible to overcome, and insufficient funding to even approach the feat."

*QUOTE FROM ALMSKEEPER PHERSON CUTS IN*: "If Douglas MacKinnon sat idle and believed every stodgy bugger who said this and that can't be done we wouldn't have a republic today, would we then? I am ordering construction of this high speed network out and round the main island again to start immediately. Nothing is impossible with the power of Christ: instead we are dealing with a matter of improbability.

Fern McGuire: "In this early hour the Railway Union has yet to respond, however National Guard units have been sighted pitching camp at the site of the proposed Caitekurke hub with engineering equipment. You're lass here, being completely true, I wouldn't ride a Guard built bullet train - I do trust the Unions. I will pray for reconciliation with the Almskeeper and the Railway, but I fear how many will be shot down or suicide to make the roundabout real."

*CROWDS BOO AND RECITE 'DEATH TO MACLENNAN*

Fern McGuire:
"Mixed martial artist Kian MacLennan has drawn ire from the Athletics Union and citizens alike by absconding his international bout in Sylvania. All Nievelanders who fail to meet their international duties and return to homeland orders can assumed to be dead spiritually if not physically, and with three months of absence MacLennan has been pronounced dead by the province of Ballyclaire. As you go about your morning and break your fast we ask that you pray for the family he left behind: a loving mother, two brothers, three sisters all with young Nievish of their own. They are abandoned and bereft without explanation as to why a new life in Westernesse means more than the holy struggle of a Niomonnach nation.

*DIAL TONE RINGS TO FATHER HEUGHAN*

Fern McGuire:
"Good morning Father, how are ye kept?"

Father Heughan: "Busy, busy, busy. Next year when I am 79 I plan to slow down and keep less appointments, but not less with you lass. Am I coming in clear?"

Fern McGuire: "Loud and clear Father, do you have a morning message for us as we break?"

Father Heughan: "I do. I'm asking our listeners to focus and fasten their heart and soul to today. When caught in sin we often think the path is set, that there is no going back, and the speed in which we travel it cannot be stopped. This is your fellow breakfast companion Father Heughan asking you to just sit and reflect on where you are going right now and whether it is towards the trinity. Have you prayed on it, and if you can't face that have you reached out to your parish? There is no sin the eternal church in Nieveland hasn't heard, and I beg you to challenge us with something new. I would bear witness to you, embrace you, and welcome you back to this family of Catholic Niomonnach without exception."

"No sense fighting it, you're awake and ready to fight on! Shake off those cobwebs, put a kettle on, cut up those soldiers, and boil an egg! If these feel like their orders from the Guard, well, that's what we're gabbing this morning so get ready to run!"

*RECORDING PLAYS IN OF 1/11 GUARD TERRIERS RUNNING AND MAKING BARK NOISES AS A SERGEANT SHOUTS ON "HOW MUCH, HOW LOUD?"*

Fern McGuire:
"I turn over to Aurora Foster who has embedded with the 1/11th in Corlcolmen before their historic journey, Aurora?"

Aurora Foster: "I assure ye I'm not bedded, but I am proud to say that I've met the lads who waded the bogs outside Caitekurke and set Pherson's Folly straight. There will be a railway 'round the republic, and it is due thanks to the persistence of a few Niomonnach who, as they say, simply followed orders and carried on until the job was done!"

Fern McGuire: "So they did! Count me as one who cast doubt but now I see. What's next for the terriers?"

Aurora Foster: "With faith from Almskeeper Pherson these lads have been given white helmets and are ordered to answer the Pope's call to service in a world spiritual vision . . ."

Fern McGuire: "A WSV? And how are the boys handling that?"

Aurora Foster: "I spoke with one Corporal Maguire who had this to say:"

Recording of Corporal Maguire: "Within every Niommonach is a deeper reservoir of spiritual service and energy that can be drawn upon, I think that the terriers will . . "

Another voice interrupts: "Oi! Everyone onna' bus!"

Fern McGuire: "That's something? Were you able to reconnect with Maguire?"

Aurora Foster: "A Captain Hely availed next, and I was unable to meet with Mister Maguire on this leg of their journey. The Terrier's captain had this to say:"

Recording of Captain Hely: "This is a papal mission, but know you well that we aim to make Niomonnach proud on the mainland. The terriers are good lads, I've only just taken the leash, but I know we are going to make a Christ like impact on wherever the good Pope sends us next! So bus on Miss Foster!"

Aurora Foster: "So I did! We are in Caitekurke for brek this morning with billets for a jetline to Radilo this afternoon."

Fern McGuire: "Prayers be with ye lass, and to all those brawny lads. I've never flown nor left the islands. Have they commissioned a Catholic chaplain to accompany ye?"

Aurora Foster: "More or less, Fern, but he's not of the cloth himself I must confess. Studied and doctored at Saint Marian, but left the order for reasons unknown to I. He's known as Lieutenant Ewan Fleming and I was able to record this statement from him:"

Recording of Ewan Fleming: "No comment, Lass. Please find a seat and stay quiet."

Fern McGuire: "That's a touch unusual, isn't it? A chaplain without a collar and this Captain Hely, isn't he a new appointment as well?"

Aurora Foster: "It's a new tone, a new tenor, and this duo are shaking up what it means to be a Republican Guardsmen. These two are direct Pherson appointees, and we are keen to see how they serve the NSV and WSV as the terriers advance to the continent tomorrow!"

BOMB THREATS SHUTTER THE ALMSHOUSE!

International terrorist bombings have shaken the mainland world in recent months and now Nàbaidhean (Nievish Intelligence, or Neighbors) have asked Almskeeper Aelis Pherson to lock down the legislative Almshouse in Caitekurke until the historic site can be fully inspected and secured.

Almskeeper Pherson taking Oath of the Almskeeper after re-election, 2022

Commandant [NAME REDACTED FOR SAFETY] of the Nàbaidhean wants Niomonnach to get on with daily activities such as work, studies, and worship. "These threats were aimed directly at Nievish democracy, the Aldermen, and Almskeeper Pherson. We are working tirelessly to sniff out the author or authors of these threats, and combing every corridor in Caitekurke to ensure that this is just some idle threat." Commandant [Redacted] told the Brek.

Mercantile Engellnach and Post-Delegationists (Anarcho-Protestants) are a common source of violence in Nieveland, however many experts are suggesting the source of this new threat to Nievish democracy comes from the so-called Revival Moment. Revivalists peddle a counter-revolutionary and liberal conspiracy dating back to MacKinnon's charge at Rosie's Marsh that involves, without a scant of evidence, that the Inferno at Matharn was set by Nieve's rather than the Engell Mercenaries.

"Revivalists
, like all conspiracy theorists, rely on stirring dissatisfaction and disillusionment within those at risk of spiritual stray," Father Cooper, a Marian priest and professor at Saint Theo University in Caitekurke informed the Companion. "They seek to revive a revolution that has already been won because within them is the desire to inflict the questioning and spiritual pain within themselves on others."

With actionable evidence pointing to a genuine bomb, Almskeeper Pherson has granted Nàbaidhean requests to detain and interview any and all persons who have visited the legislative Almshouse in Caitekurke. This includes Almskeeper Pherson herself, who presided over a tight vote that restricted online activities for Niomonnach on personal computers and smartblock telephones. The Breakfast Companion encourages all guests accessing the The Brek online to check their online license for expiration, and to visit Alms.nv for revised public safety protocols concerning smartblocks and personal computers.

Finally, it must be advised that County Almshouses will be under strict monitoring from Nàbaidhean as well. Almskeeper Pherson has called for a "legislative pause" as the mainland terror bombing craze makes its way through serene Nieveland.

*1000 AM, BREAKFAST COMPANION RADIO LIVESTREAM, DINING IN W/ PETER LEAVY*

Peter Leavy:
"If I be the first to tell you, then I strongly advise you to sit down. Niomonnach have have died on this night, and a site that . . That holds such special importance to us all has been destroyed. First on the scene was Fern Maguire, host from the morning brek, and we have her back now to describe what she did bear witness to earlier."

Fern McGuire: "Where there are no words I know I must form some for ye, but what I witnessed this afternoon was so heartbreaking, so soulcrushing, that tears do reside hot on my cheeks - snot wiped down on every checker of my blouse and I dunn'ah, I dunn'ah how to begin?"

Peter Leavy: "Yes lass, and do know for those listening at home it may be best to turn in the wee ones for bed now and return posthaste."

Fern McGuire: "It was such a fucking bloody perfect afternoon, so fucking perfectly cloudy yet warm and inviting for everyone to venture out in Caitekurke. I had wrapped up the Brek and passed it on for the Afternoon and I aimed to trek it to Field Museum downtown where a mate of mine was presenting . . but I never did get there, I'm not sure anyone who was out then could escape the smell of it . . the billowing smoke. I turned corner at Padraig's Pass and saw it, I saw a massive orange flame roaring from Saint Brig's."

Peter Leavy: "Of course Saint Brigid's Cathedral in Caitekurke is the seat of Nievish Catholicism. Physically it is a site of two cathedrals before over a near millennia, it was rebuilt by King Padraig and the two dear Almskeeper's MacKinnon and MacPherson. It holds relics of so many saints, artifacts of the first Nievish Catholics, and so very many statues and paintings from Nieveland's finest artists . . and, well it's really quite daunting as the list piles up doesn't it Fern?"

Fern McGuire: "The spire was fully consumed by the flames, Peter, and my heart fell so far down and I still haven't picked it up. Hundreds of us, no thousands, were gathering to watch in horror as this symbol - this seat of Nievish spirituality was engulfed . . an'I, an'we . . when the spire did collapse we all began to gasp, cry, and some did also collapse in the cobbles."

Peter Leavy: "And any Niomonnach who has heard, seen the pictures or watched a video of what transpired there is deeply aggrieved. I would let you go now, Miss McGuire, because we will soon be giving the floor from an address from Almskeeper Pherson. Do you have any last words?"

Fern McGuire: "Saint Brigid's is so special, so dear, so positively Nievish. The windows, the facade, the most visited site in Caitekurke by our own tourists and foreign ones. Briggie's is the heart of Caitekurke, the heart of Nievish Catholicism, and today we had our heart ripped out . . Save us . ."

*VIDEO CONTINUES TO ROLL OF THE FLAMES THAT RUINED SAINT BRIGID'S CATHEDRAL BEFORE BEING INTERRUPTED BY ALMSKEEPER PHERSON STANDING IN FRONT OF HER DESK AT OXWHYTE CASTLE WEARING INFORMAL CLOTHING*

Almskeeper Aelis Pherson:
"You will see no tear in my this evening, though I know they weigh heavy on every eye in Nieveland tonight. This afternoon, Saint Brigid's Cathedral in Caitekurke, was deliberately set aflame by Anarcho-Protestants. What is clear is that one young deviant, so personally bothered by the spirit of Nievish Catholicism and its vision, self immolated at the wooden core of this six-hundred year old heart we call St. Brigg's. This deviant was not alone, this we know because while the traitor lurked within most exits were blocked and barred by parties outside.

We know this so: Cardinal Gallagher is dead, twenty-three nuns or priests are dead or in hospital, ten secretaries and union custodial or groundskeepers are injured or dead, and nearly one-hundred parishioners will not return from afternoon mass alive or so forever burned and traumatized from what transpired.

See no tear in my eye because what I feel is rage, and what I desire is vengeance. The perpetrators did leave note of what they wanted and hoped to achieve: 'the destruction of the Nievish State and its Papist roots'. To he who marked these words: know that I will destroy you, we the Nievish Catholics will overcome you, and that when Niomonnach across these fair islands have sobbed a thousand tears their eyes will turn the terror you have inflicted upon us into unrelenting revenge.

Tonight I ken that the enemy is the MacLennan Revivalist Movement. The words of the manifesto that the arsonist posted on Nievenet link directly back to MacLennan's ugly lies about the Nievish Revolution. Through his words the Nàbaidhean found online webforum postings that matched from Joseph-Anthony Jordan, a registered protestant with prior arrests for counter-revolutionary outbursts in school and in public. Still, tonight as I address you, we do not yet know the names and locations of his confederates who locked the doors and trapped so many to die within. I would call the late Jordan a devil, but of those who barred doors and ran away I call them cowards!

These cowards are no Engells, Skanns, or Tiannemen. They were Nieves, they WERE Nieves, and YOU must help us track them down! Report everyone and everything that simply felt off today to Nàbaidhean. This service has been expanded, Guardsmen are being converted into Nàbaidhean to support the effort, and I will avail myself no wink, no spot of bread or drink, until arrests of these revivalist terrorists begin piling up as high as the death count they have savagely inflicted on we."

We strongly condemn this terrorist attack on Saint Brigid's Cathedral. This attack goes against each and every human principle. We know that there are many disputes on religion, especially within Christianity, but it is unchristian to try to solve those disputes with this kind of violence. We are ready to cooperate with the government of Nieveland to find the culprits. Our condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, and to the people of Nieveland. The Rheinians will hold the deceased in their prayers, whichever religion they have.

Joint statement

We are utterly shocked by the terrorist attack on Saint Brigid's Cathedral in Nieveland. This act does not honour God, but smear his face. We urge the culprits to repent and turn themselves in. We pledge our support to the people of Nieveland and hold them in our prayers, especially those who lost their loved ones. We will also hold special praying sessions for the people who died in this heinous attack, and hold them in our usual prayers as well.

"Why hello there, that's right, welcome back, the Breakfast Companion is streaming wide across domestic airwaves and across all channels beyond the islands on the net once again! If I've missed you more than you've missed I'd not miss a wink because the kettle is on and news from the islands steams ever forward. Let's crack in:"

*TRAIN WHISTLE AND RINGING PRECEDES A ROAR OF CHEERS*

*Recording of Almskeeper Aelis Pherson:*
"Would you look at that? Pherson's Folly they called it when when some six years ago the high speed railway project marched out from southern Caitekurke. Where are they now, the doubting and unfaithful, where else but hiding while we faithful and cheerful celebrate? Linens from Ballyclaire are shot up to Padraigsbrig in fair trade for sprats in about an hour. Wee ones from Mathanar can visit a museum in Caitekurke and be back at home within a day."

Fern McGuire: "That was of course Almskeeper Pherson touting a success in Catholic Revolutionary engineering that, if one were to listen to our archives, I doubted some years back. Strikes, subterfuge, and even now after its completion there are threats of violence against that folly that we now see as a miracle. I have Dr. Ellis Tait from the 5th Republican University in Ballyclaire to discuss the security situation, Dr. Tait?"

Ellis Tait: "Indeed Fern, god bless this Almskeeper and god bless this revolutionary achievement, but let's not forget what we are still up against! Piracy in the Gothic stew, ongoing protestant violence on the European mainland, and here within this sublime Catholic Revolutionary Republic we share access to public transportation with an ornery and resentful Engell underclass obsessed with violent anarcho-protestant fantasies. After the Engell-Fianna's genocidal attack upon Saint Brigid's Cathedral this ideology, a divisive and corrosive spew, has settled into the Engell and immigrant ghettos."

Fern McGuire: "Are intelligence services such as the Nàbaidhean or Gardaí responding, and what are they predicting with regards to Pherson's rails?"

Ellis Tait: "Embittered, jealous, and misplaced. The capitalist immigrant, brainwashed at birth with Engell agitation, seeks to externalize the conflict they feel within their soul upon us in the physical world. Every day a new Fianna or lone wolf is scooped up by our intelligence services, save us, because those of us who study these terror groups know that eventually an attack will skirt their screening efforts. I am advocating for intensive screenings of bodies and personal effects for all passengers along the line . . . There are many, even in the services and especially among the Gardaí, who find this extreme and indecent. Hundreds of Catholic Niomonnach burned to ashes in Saint Brig's was indecent, that was a violation! Mark me I say, mark me that if measures are not taken along the rails these . . these anarchists, these Engells, and these protestant immigrants will take advantage of our unwillingness to secure ourselves!"

*CURLING TEAM IS HEARD SHOUTING TO GUIDE THEIR STONE*

Willy Johnston:
"Mornin' Miss Maguire, I think I might owe you a complete background on every member of the final twelve teams deserving of curling for Lord Killian's Chalice. Might I begin anti-alphabetically with Zuille Marlowe who by alphabet alone belongs at the bottom, however there are so many qualities that the left handed . ."

Fern McGuire: "Might we just remind our listeners overseas the structure of this event at hand?"

Willy Johnston: "Twelve teams converge in Caitekurke for this final curling tournament: a round robin in which all clubs face one another once before the top four, in wins or points, tilt for semifinals. Now my one remaining eye is placed on Zuille Marlowe, who calls Bancy Bend home, leads a mixed male and female team against a diverse field of Niomonnach who have achieved placement based upon three criteria: four teams have won regional championships, four are sponsored by lairds & unions, and four are legacy teams who have won in past years who can be replaced by not being one of the last four to win. Is that quite right with you and your absconding international audience?"

Fern McGuire: "Quite right Mr. Johnston. Where will you be for the first tilt?"

Willy Johnston: "At the appointed place at an appointed hour, broadcasting live on Companion Sports Tellie and Radio, are we done Miss McGuire?"

Fern McGuire: "We are quite done sir, I will let you get back to our sporting channel where I am sure the Z to A biographical series will be of fitting ears of interest."

Willy Johnston: "Finally, what a cu- . . "

OPINION :: TV

Tonight a film premiered across all public channels called "The Second Storm". It is a fictional story where a contingent from a Jysko-Austwegian North arrives in force to sack Caitekurke with a flotilla of simple trading ships. A year ago today had this been put on our screens we might have laughed and canned this poorly put together Nievish romp.

Today, however, we look at the post-delegationist piracy problem and wonder: what if now? The characters in Second Storm take on the trappings of vikings: they are traders, they are opportunists, and they hone in on the weaknesses of Nieveland as if a predator to prey. The story draws upon what must have seemed impossible to Engells and Nieves in that distant time: a faraway unthought of entity coming ashore without warning.

"How do we respond? " a character named Dylan Cairns asks in an opening scene, "we have not navy nor air corps, no army with motor . . "

This televised movie exposes a national weakness that few ever broach: Nieveland's defense is a rifle army, and once the local force is overrun a series of internal rivalries will supersede a unified defense. Characters from Gunnvale make deals with the invaders, same as their kingdom did historically, while the hinterland kingdoms retract and enjoy moments independent of Caitekurke's dominion.

Troubling further, and perhaps a first in Niomonnach cinema, the Catholic Church refuses to choose a side in the story: Nieveland is alone. The writers recognize that Nieveland has gone too far astray, or at least the Church in Tibur has, and that the nation will be isolated from it in the next conflict.

While poorly acted and of low CGI value as compared to other medias on the continent, this film will not be forgotten easily. Indeed, it is scheduled to be repeated every weekend on public channels for months to come and its camp or kitsch value with simple lovable characters will endear a generation around the ideas it is seeding.

Nieveland is poorly defended, alone, and a plucky young resistance parroting the phrases of this age are organizing to retake the republic with small arms and tricks as same as Caitekurke has been exchanged a hundred times before, a story as old as the port itself.

OPINION :: CONSCRIPTION WOES

Thousands of Niomonnach athletes across the Catholic Revolutionary Republic are opening letters this afternoon sent from an unexpected and unthinkable sender: the Revolutionary Guard Office, particularly the Republican Guard (RG / Army). Historically there have been a series of alternatives to serving conscription years in the Republican Guard ranging from entering church service, a maintained medical scholarship, or performing as an athlete for the nation. In each of the aforementioned cases, letters of deferral could be filed by authorities outside of the Nievish government on the individual's behalf, and the pool of conscripts has been sufficient to ignore the inconsistencies and corruption involved with deferment letters.

Following a slew of corruption revelations from Nievish athletics, known as the union-based Red Star Collective, the government in Nieveland is finally beginning to clamp down on a culture where privileged union functionaries were not only stealing money from the legitimate athletes: they were using these funds to send their children to foreign universities on the European mainland! Such absconders, as have been identified by state investigators, have been ordered to return to their homeland or face eternal banishment from the protective veil. With such illuminations identifying treachery in athletics, many are starting to wonder if the Tiburan Church or medical study systems are likewise concealing traitors and defeatists.

Traditional RevGard conscription lasts for 3 years and current or former Red Star Collective athletes with more than 2 months of remaining service time will be pressed into standard military training. Collective athletes historically could choose to "retire" after 3 years of playing, yet under a militarized system Revolutionary Guard soldiers can be extended to meet retention requirements on a year-to-year basis. With control over the national athletic system, would Almskeeper Pherson or the Guard force retention on a footballer or tennis star? Pherson was quite clear on Thursday: "Absolutely, their talent is no less collective than it was yesterday, every effort belongs to the revolution and underlying spiritual vision; we should not see a ball player as any different than a rifleman, a mother, or a deacon: they all must serve in their own way and until the end."

This last statement and the theme of further army takeovers over aspects of Nievish society are manifesting fight or flight occurrences among the remaining youth conscription deferrals. Young religious scholars and medical researchers are taking to the nationwide web to argue that their service towards the healthy body and soul is just as valuable to Nieveland as the service of the military. Others, meanwhile, are heeding the RSC's collapse as a call to escape the Catholic Revolutionary State as soon as possible. Leaving Nieveland is never that simple though and the conscription avoidance trend has been identified by travel authorities as "putridly peculiar". Outgoing Nieves are now being asked to produce not only travel plans and written letters from host destinations that they will return, but their credit and funds will also be held under supervision for the duration of their travels.

To withdraw funds from a card or bank account in Nieveland over a "basic" threshold, which by mainland standards is well below poverty, will require a collect call back home for approval. "Through this scheme, we will rather quickly find the rat tunnels that oligarchs exploit for their lazy children," Pherson told The Brek, "and fine, do you think we will miss them? No, but when they do come back (they always do) there will be a letter of conscription and a uniform too tight for their fat bodies."

HEADLINER:
YOUTH PROTESTS ISOLATED!

"They haven't bathed in weeks, and now they're stealing food from the almshouses" police Brigadier Stephen Cormick told the Brek before ordering armed officers into corral student protesters. While this movement to dodge conscription remains popular among youth and young adults, many in Caitekurke and folk from the country at large are beginning to tire of these weeks of unchecked demonstrations that are blocking public railways and commutes.

Both sides, officers and protesters, sustained injuries as Nieveland's paramilitary police successfully isolated the majority of demonstrators in Quinnlevan's Square Park. Almskeeper Pherson addressed concerns over this concentration of demonstrators by promising "rations befitting of recruits, tents appropriate for troops, and a paid contract to sign when they are done living this way for free!"

Should you have any photographs or videos of todays events you are encouraged to report them to authorities to assist in the spiritual justice process as is ongoing in these trying times. This news service stands with our young men and women in uniform and encourages our viewership to pray for the absconders taking positions at Quinnlevan's Square.

LiveStream :: Almskeeper Press Conference at Oxwhyte Castle

Almskeeper Pherson:
"Gentlefolk, please be seated, I have a short statement to the Niomonnach trapped in Corrientes and then we will proceed with your pesky questions. So here it is: when these words find you know that you are not alone. The entirety of the Catholic Revolutionary State and Nievish nation is with you spiritually and in efforts to return you and your family back safe to these crimson isles. This evening I have petitioned the new government in Corrientes to set a precedent for diplomatic sanity by respecting our wishes to peacefully withdraw from the protesting mobs encircling our peaceful embassy.

They want us to think this is normal, the world, that we should be hounded for our fervent faith and patriotism, but mark me that they will rue the day when the Nievish start hitting back! . . . Questions then, go on then you - Charlie from the Independent?"

Charlie O'Collins (Ballyclaire Independent): "Madame Keeper, good afternoon on behalf of the people's press corps, we are proud to be here despite some extra eyes and ears from the foreign press. Ever forward though: what Spiritual Vision does the Almshouse possess regarding mainland Europe's civil conflicts and the persisting issue of piracy?"

Pherson: "Nieveland provides hundreds of troops at disposal of the European Forum under the White Helm program and I remain a strong believer in international collective responses to small scale conflicts such as the piracy problem. Nieveland's White Seals have been in training now in Ebria for some time and can be expected to contribute to the EF's limited patrolling efforts . . . But hear me clear: the White Helm program cannot address what is brewing at the core of Central Europe in any serious way, and to tell you true, we are the only ones taking this program seriously. The outside world is selfish, sour, and always looking to take advantage or steal from the earnest and faithful - this much I know."

Fern MacGuire (Breakfast Companion): "Can you speak to the status of student and amateur athletes who have been conscripted into the Revolutionary Guard? Will they perform internationally, and what is different now?"

Pherson: "Our Nievish Spiritual Vision calls for full spectrum perfection or likewise efforts exhausted to reach such heights of selfless service. We took a look at the state of international travel among Nievish youth and saw that athletes, clergy, and medical students with affluence were abusing alms funds while your neighbors toiled in moldy gyms and decaying health houses. No one is special in Nieveland, not even me, and I could not stand by and watch that corruption any further.

They are paid, fed, and given housing now: this much is different. The Union Red Star system collected on tickets and broadcasting fees, not to mention sponsorships while abroad, and paid the athletes nothing. We were sending footballers to international games with mismatching boots last year, this is over now, and everyone will be supplied and paid the same."

Doug Ewan (Joshgyll Guardian): "Does Nieveland's participation in Istavanian military exercises indicate a pull towards CETO as they are an erstwhile CETO state?"

Pherson: "The 21st Century is a tumultuous time, Mr. Ewan, and I will not have our armed forces waiting at home for the world to come kick our door in. We need modern perspectives and experience such as the White Helms and White Seals are getting, and this minor Istavanian exercise is indicative of our seriousness in seeing how continentals perhaps fight.

We do not expect CETO to be throwing pebbles at our window for us to join, but their enemies will surely take this as a sign of us choosing a side. As things escalate we will steer clear of any major conflicts and remain present in the European Forum peace processes . . That is all I can say at this time on the matter, neither Tarusa nor major CETO powers court us with any regularity."

Esteemed Representatives,

This government of the United States of Corrientes is baffled by the level of hostility shown towards us by the leadership of the Catholic Revolutionary State of Nieveland. We understand that fervish communiques like that are made specifically for the internal consumption, but we will not allow the name of our people and our nation to be dragged in the mud, by any foreign government.

It is true, that with the events in Nieveland taking place in parallel to our own demonstrations and protests, Correntines have marched and organised a protest in front of the Nievish embassy in Callao, organising even a sit-in. What we also want to state is that the demonstration there lasted just a few hours and even if there are still today some protesters remaining in front of the embassy, the National Police and the Armed Police Corps are there to ensure that it is peaceful and the security of everyone, from Nievish embassy staff to protesters is being assured. Nobody is blocking the embassy nor does it organise a blocade of it.

We hope that in the future, the government of the United States and that of the Catholic Revolutionary State will continue to improve and that this should be the nadir of our relationship, as both Corrientes and Nieveland have many bonds together, the strongest being the shared Catholic faith.

Signed and sealed,

Nievish State Office :: Public Message

The Catholic Revolutionary State in Nieveland is grateful to Comrade Restrepo's prompt response to concerns regarding Nievish embassy Folk stationed in Callao. The trauma of persecution from Engell Mercenaries and mainland European Empires informs our defensive posture to being surrounded by overwhelming numbers, when indeed, Nieves are are a minority people. I have therefor negotiated a cancellation of egress orders with the Almskeeper with this assurance that the United States' Police consortium has guaranteed safety for Nievennach nestled in the embassy.

Goodwill Praised,
Secretary Jon Lanpherson

On 16 May 2023 LGBT relationships were decriminalized in Nieveland

In 1921 Douglas MacKinnon redefined the identity and direction of Nieveland as the first democratically elected head of state. For nearly three centuries prior the Kingdom of Nieveland comported itself as a client of the Engell-Empire, and what Nievish today call MacKinnon's Revolution is defined abroad as a separatist movement and civil war between the Thaumantic Island nations. MacKinnon honed in on the distinctive differences between Dulwich and Caitekurke or Engellex and Nieveland when he wrote a manifesto that was circulated in Occidentia and among mainland Catholic countries in Europe.

In one passage from this manifesto MacKinnon wrote: "when we capture an enemy soldier they often denounce their company, their employers, as mercenaries. We live off of the alms-scraps of faithful Nieves who share our Catholic Spiritual Vision." Indeed, Douglas MacKinnon was precise and targeted with every publication or public statement that he made in his lifetime between 1878-1934. Since his demise countless have speculated as to why AlmsMacKin left no heir, was never married, and how from this void countless more came forward over the decades claiming to be girlfriends or bastards of Douglas.

"My dalliances of desire need not come before the revival of the Nievish nation," MacKinnon wrote in private journals released in May of 2023, "yet sometimes I wish I could leave Oxwhyte Castle with the man I slept with therein, or adopt personally the young ones we drill for state service in the yard. To represent everyone and everything while being so sullen and alone will surely shave years from my lifespan."

Journals and diaries are common to Nieves today because Douglas MacKinnon insisted upon self and group reflection in writing. As entries like these reach the eyes of 21st-Century Nieves a wave of relief and shock is inspiring a trend of individual expression in a typically conformist society. Almskeeper Aelis Pherson's daughter Chloe Pherson announced her asexuality two months ago on Clover, Nieveland's primary social media platform, and was lambasted and attacked until the state owned site banned her account for controversy.

"The diaries of this man are so intimate and dearly special," Almskeeper Pherson said before signing the LGBT decriminalization act and release of a portion of MacKinnon's personal journals, "he was so full of selfless love for his nation that he sequestered who he was fully, who he loved personally, in such a way that he became quite purposely more myth than man." MacKinnon was the first Almskeeper, MacPherson was the second, and now the latter's niece is the third. Prior to this only Brian MacPherson and Aelis Pherson had knowledge of MacKinnon's homosexuality. Nieveland was also one of the last remaining Catholic countries to restrict same-sex relationships, however, thanks to the decriminalization act hundreds if not thousands will be given the opportunity to clear their records or recompense for fines paid for prior restrictions.

MacKinnon's full diaries remain redacted in many areas and the two MacPherson's, the Almskeepers from 1934 to 2020 remain fully closed to the public. "His spiritual vision is completed by selfless and self love," Almskeeper Pherson stated, "and I am so deeply sorry our dear founder never shared his full self with Nieveland."

D. McLeary:
"I did not know any of them by name in the beginning, a lot of us used nicknames or nom de guerre defensively in the Clover app online."

Judge Morrin: "And at this stage you were a what?"

D. McLeary: "I was myself? I do not understand the question."

Judge Morrin: "Were you at that stage, while divining with your smart block on the webs, involved with Engells? Interlopers? Protestants? Did you enter sidebars with Post-Delegationists?"

D. McLeary: "Uhm no sir, most of us were looking for scholarships in the Rheinbund or Radilo . . ."

Judge Morrin: "It will be marked that you conspired to abscond the country with others. Do you disagree with this charge, and do you agree to plead in the affirmative? Speak true!"

D. McLeary: "You know, speaking true, I hated this place. I joined the protest because my visa was cancelled and you freaks wanted me to join the army, me? I joined the protest and I hated them, I hated the Catholics and their hemming and hawing about Nieveland, I just wanted to burn and leave.

D. McLeary: "But you know, like, the young sister who will be a nun promised to be with me to the end . .There was also a young man she ran with was from a convent who would be pulled into the army like the rest of us, and he did read to us every night from the Nievish scholars of I dunno . . yore? He wasn't judgy, and would stop to explain what such and so jerk from Ballyclaire in 1722 did mean when I I yawned. This place started to make sense when she and him spoke, and I'm grateful for that . ."

Judge Morrin: "Go on."

D. McLeary: "I did not want to hold a gun or stand up for anything or anyone but myself a few weeks ago on Clover."

Judge Morrin: "Would you mark yourself in writing and oral oath never to pick up arms against the Nievish State again?"

D. McLeary:
"Dear Laird: mark me, I will not take up arms against the Catholic Revolutionary State in Nieveland . . uhm, yes, so help me god and well, what else?"

Judge Morrin: "I happen to think Nieveland has enough soldiers but not enough heroes or doctors. Miss McLeary: I do not want to see you again, I hate seeing smart young folk like you in my court more than you pretended to hate our lovely island. Please stand to hear my decree, bailiff and the court . . "

Next, I challenge you to complete your education next year on time and as planned.
