The King set his tea down and pressed the intercom. The King was in the corner office of a small, discrete villa, which had been tucked away from the city by the virtue of a small hill, a man-made, lightly populated forest, and 8 foot brick walls. It was one of many retreats the Royal Family had for getting some peace while working.

The King leaned down only slightly to speak into the intercom: "Please show our guest in Madam" said the King, releasing the button from the 70's antique intercom his father had used. "We Monsieur" replied a mousy voice. He always loved his personal secretary. The only person who called him 'Monsieur' and not King or Your Highness; she was special. Even her husband once or twice had addressed him as 'Monsieur le Roi', much to the shock of those present at court.

The King stood to welcome the Talemantine representative. "I trust you had a good flight?" asked the King extending his hand. "You will have to excuse me for not meeting you personally at the airport, Ive been rather busy."

 

[Taley]

"The flight was well your majesty." said Carmine Gavallo. The Vice Chancellor had travelled to Marquette, a friend of the empire, after the kingdom requested a meeting. Both nations had simular goals and Secretary Gavallo was interested in what Marquette wanted to discuss.

"Your majesty the empire is looking forward to improved fresh relations with Marquette. What did your majesty have in mind?"

"Well, I would like to implement a mutual defense agreement; on a limited basis of course. Funding, material, weapons and such. Direct involvement optional based on the situation, but something enough to make our enemies think twice. Of course this is a defensive pact. Included, would a military exchange program. Perhaps every other year stationing four or five ships in each others ports or something" said the King with a broad smile.

"Our two nations have a common attitude about life. I feel this will promise us a future. To help ensure that future, I feel we must find a mutually profitable trade agreement. Don't you agree?"

 

[Taley]

"I can agree with a mutual defense agreement. The further cooperation between our two nations will help us both in security. A military exchange would be acceptable, but I do have some reservations. The exchange would have to be limited to a small sqadron of aircraft and a limit on the number and class of ships. The agreement cannot allow capital ships say like aircraft carriers to dock in our ports. This is not to say that a Marquette carrier could never dock, but that should be done on situational basis and not as part of this exchange. Also I would suggest a joint project, be it a new aircraft or ship that we can work on together."

Secretary Gavallo took a sip of water before continuing. "Your majesty a Trade agreement would be acceptable, but I wish to now the terms Marquette requests."

The King nodded in agreement with the defense terms. "I would be pleased to develop a ship with your nation in the future or perhaps a utility aircraft. As for the trade agreement; our main concern is to eliminate barriers for investment in each others country. That is our main concern. We have yet to draw out specifics as I would like your input" said the King warmly.

 

[Taley]

"Well your majesty, the Talemantine Empire is very business friendly. We have low business taxes and are heavily unfavorable to labor unions. However, we could work to lower the importation quotas on Marquetten companies and vis versa."

"Excellent, my nation for the most part values labor unions and they, at least in my nation are fairly reasona-" the King trailed off when his aid handed him a file. The King opened it and took a moment to analyze it. He closed the file and handed it to his guest. "May I suggest we work together on this military project. I do not mean to change the subject, but my aid handed me this and I feel that this project would benefit us equally. We have planned it but would like help in the actual production. Perhaps you have some firms who would like a part in this. Currently we plan to build 8-10. No doubt your navy may adopt this juicy ship" said the King, smiling slightly, handing over the document.*
