Crown Prince denied permission to marry commoner. King's health in question

You must be registered for see images attach

King Erik has denied the Crown Prince to marry a commoner says Palace sources. Prince Henrik has carried on a very public relationship with ballet dancer Astrid Langkjaer since 1918. The Crown Prince reportedly sought permission to marry earlier this week and was flatly denied. Prince Henrik has since left Tingsted for the remote coastal palace at Olsterholm. Many are speculating at the ongoing father-son feud which has brewed since the end of the Great Contest. Many are questioning if the relationship remains politically viable as the King's health has been rumored to be ill since 1916. The palace has refused to acknowledge any reports on the King's health. However, on Monday the King appeared at the Tingsted Statsopera and appeared to be struggling to walk. The King is scheduled to visit several countries in the coming weeks and to seek new trade deals. The King was scheduled to appear before the Statsgilde on Tuesday of next week. No word has been given as to if the King will still speak.

Royal Jute Navy will decommission captured ships

The new Tapper Class dreadnought RJS King Erik

As funding becomes an ever increasing issue for the Royal Jute Navy, the Statsgilde has cut further funding for the Royal Navy. Statminister Harald Møller has stated that he plans to continue pushing the Statsgilde for cuts as a "large navy is an extravagance and frankly, is anachronistic for our nation. The Jute Navy will continue to be an effective force. But commissioning new battleships and simultaneously allowing old and foreign ships to drain our treasury is unwise".

The Knights of St. Joseph observe with growing concern the swirling of rumors surrounding His Majesty, King Erik's health, and we pray that such gossip is exaggerated, and that His Majesty's constitution continues to be as strong as ever. Furthermore, we look forward to continued diplomatic correspondence with the Jutes in regards to potential future trade deals.

Statsminister: Steel will struggle
You must be registered for see images

Statsminister Harald Møller spoke today from a steel mill outside of Bolhavn this weekend. The renowned Jute steel industry has struggled in recent months as export targets have not been met. Many in the industry promised to maintain war-time export numbers. Yet in the last few months, numbers have plummeted as many nations have gotten closer to full recovery from the war and others have gotten their domestic steel industries ramped up to meet demand. Last week, steel mills across Jutegn cut approximately 1,000 jobs with many more forecast for the future. Møller has promised the workers the full attention of the Statsgilde in the coming weeks. A full strike over the coming employment cuts was initially scheduled for Thursday. However, Møller has reportedly negotiated a partial strike in order to ensure that mills are still producing. "We have many vital contracts around the world. It is wholly necessary that we build upon these agreements to better ensure that future contracts continue".

King Erik reportedly in grave condition. Prince Henrik to named Regent
Tingsted

King Erik VI, who has ruled since 1882, is reportedly in "seriously grave condition". No medical information was given aside from the seriousness of his illness. The Statsminister, Harald Møller, has left Tingsted to visit the King who left the capital over the weekend. The King's ongoing illness has been subject of much speculation since the end of the War. In 1914, the King was supposedly evacuated from inspecting troops near the front. In 1916, the Palace acknowledged the King's health issues. His appearances have been increasingly rare and few are said to have audiences with him in the past year. King Erik is noted for his attempts to modernize the more remote regions of Jutegn and his heavy support of the domestic steel industry. He garnered much debate for his imposition of the 1909 Constitution which dismantled the house of nobles and replaced it with an elected domestic government. Meanwhile in Tingsted, Prince Henrik has been named Regent. The 41 year-old Prince-widower is said to be in meetings with councilors and various ministers without portfolio.

Dr. Rasmus Hein and Dr. Klaus Jacobsen patent Insulin

The two doctors credited with the discovery and development of insulin have patented their discovery in Jutegn, Petit-Pays, and in other nations following last year. The doctors have patented their discovery to "avoid abuse by certain entities". The applicable nature of the discovery to fight various illnesses and imbalances is still in question. Testing will commence this year at Lisborg University. There have been several attempts in the past to isolate insulin. However, last year the pair of Lisborg University doctors succeeded. The two are considered to be formally on the faculty at the Medical Academy at Lisborg University- though the University confirmed that they only co-taught one class and instead focus on research alongside recent graduates. The government has promised to fully fund any research following the current subject of insulin.

"King's condition definitely improving" says source
You must be registered for see images

Sources at one of the Royal Estates claim that King Erik's health has improved greatly over the last week. The King has left Tingsted for Gunderup Castle and has reportedly been attended to be a flock of doctors. The Statsminister visited the King last week but has yet to comment on the health of His Majesty. The Crown Prince has been seen visiting the castle daily and there is widespread speculation that His Majesty will return to Tingsted by October. The Royal Palace in Tingsted has been on a near lockdown as most of the staff are in seclusion. Attempts to see the King by politicians and nobles has largely been denied. The King's governing roles have been filled by the Crown Prince, though there has been no mention of a regency. Hundreds gathered at the Palace on Friday to light candles and to offer prayers.
The Foreign Minister, Petr Sorensen, will delay next month's tour of undisclosed countries. Additionally, the King's official birthday celebrations have been postponed indefinitely.

King Erik Dead. Prince-Regent Henrik to take throne. Rumors of a coup "nonsense" say palace
Gunderup

King Erik VI has died at Gunderup Castle following a long illness says the Palace. King Erik led the nation through many crises and in 1907 announced that Jutegn would no longer be an absolute monarchy. King Erik transformed the nation and abolished the Ældstemøde- replacing it with the Statsgilde in 1910. The King issued 1911 Constitution as his final act as an absolute monarch. His Majesty was an accomplished horseman and dancer. Respected on the international stage for his commitment to international cooperation, King Erik remained friendly with democracies and monarchies throughout his reign. His innate ability to bring others to the negotiating table and his genial manner remain in the minds of many. A state funeral is planned for Monday with a national holiday declared.

Rumors of an attempted noble coup, following the death of King Erik, have been deemed as "complete and utter nonsense" by the Palace. Statsminister Harald Møller will meet with the Prince-Regent tomorrow in Tingsted.

Early Snow causing havoc

Lydum's already precarious links to the rest of the nation came to a close as an Autumn storm has dumped nearly 8 inches of snow on the ground in the north of Jutegn. Subsequently, a warm day followed the initial snowfall on Monday. This has caused a mass influx of water from the mountains. In the region of Rinkjobing, residents are fairing better as they were expecting snow. The Royal Government has sent civil and military engineers to reopen washed away roads and to ensure that the northern gateways remain open. Several bridges were damaged from flash flooding and Statsminister Møller has promised to have the bridges in working order by the weekend.

A Nation Mourns: King Erik VI and his legacy. State Funeral to be held Friday.

Born at a small farming estate near Holstrup in 1849, King Erik VI was known to be a sickly child. At age 8, King Erik left for boarding school in Petit-Pays. He initially struggled as a student but remained at the boarding school until are 14. He was said to be a talented viola player and briefly served as president of the chess club. Despite his 6 years in Petit-Pays, Erik failed to truly master the Frankish language. Though able to read and speak Frankish, he reportedly never was able to write coherently in the language.

At 14, he was enrolled in the now defunct Kongelig Skole for Kunst og Teknik near Turi. His education was interrupted by the Nationer Crisis in 1864. His father, Lars II died abruptly in 1866 leaving the 17-year old to become king. His mother, Queen Frederika, stepped in. Through shrewd negations with the Ædlehus, Frederika became regent in 1867- claiming her son was not yet ready for regal duties. The coronation would wait. Following his reception of the Rigsuddannelseseksamen, Erik was sent to attend the Royal University of Tingsted in which he studied law and history- ultimately graduating with a degree in law. In August of 1872, things came to a head. Queen Frederika refused yet again to relinquish the throne. Furious debate in the Ædlehus resulted in a compromise. On August 1, 1873, Erik would be crowned, regardless of his mother's willingness to step aside. Over the following year, Erik attended the Royal Military Institute in Fredriksborg and studied Naval Warfare Theory. On July 18th, 1873, Erik made his way to Tingsted. Frederika again demanded to speak in the Ædlehus but was drowned out by its members. The coronation went through and it became clear very quickly, Erik had many ideas.

King Erik's first order of business was to tour much of the Jute countryside where he talked with many common people. This was a trend he continued until the war. His overwhelmingly most recognizable achievement of his first years on the throne was the investment in infrastructure. Railroads, roads, and telegraphs went up all over the country. Erik invested heavily in the nation's steel industry and the navy. Much of this rattled the Ædlehus. In 1882, the King repealed many of the censorship laws and banned the Isperan Church from having its own courts. He further banned Isperan Church clergy from holding any public office unless appointed directly by the King. This was the last straw for the Ædlehus. In 1884, the Ædlehus passed the Charter om ædle Rettigheder (Charter of Noble Rights). This effectively cut the King's power immensely.

King Erik still found multiple ways to subvert the Elderhouse. He took on projects personally and saw their completion often in person. He worked tirelessly as a diplomat. Well respected among his counterparts, Erik traveled throughout the region to promote cooperation and Jute businesses. His largest trip in 1899 lasted 3 continuous months. In 1901, the Ædlehus sought to further curb the King's power. Though already a near figurehead, Erik saw that the Ædlehus had become a place of corruption and over-exposed nationalistic conservatism. In 1902, King Erik began to investigate dismantling the house of nobles. It would take 8 years but in 1910, while the Ædlehus was in recess- King Erik dissolved the house and demanded new elections. Much to the dismay of the members, the King was responsible to set the date for the election; which he never did. Following his proclamation, the King told a reporter- It is only for the people to kick me around, not the privileged (Det er kun for folket at sparke mig rundt - ikke de privilegerede). Ruling as the temporary President of the Elder House, the King instituted numerous laws and a new tax system. On March 3rd, 1911, King Erik formally issued the Constitution of 1911 which officially abolished the Ædlehus and replaced it with a democratically elected legislature. The King's constitution restored some powers to the monarch but left the overwhelming bulk of power in the hands to the citizen.

King Erik's reign was largely prosperous. The nation transformed under his rule. Railways and a blossoming economy are the testament to his time on the throne. The dark stain of the Great War was reportedly difficult on him. He maintained that should the monarchies of the world falter, a great power gap would be created which would lead to the social anarchists taking the world by storm. He repeatedly commented throughout the war that Jutegn's mission was not to fight democracy but rather to stand with the Kingdom's friends. This led to the national motto -Vi står for vores pligt over for vores venner, vores rige og vores Gud. As King Erik's health deteriorated, he still took part in daily briefings and was active in his role as King. He will be remembered as a stoic leader whose character remained steadfast in the transformation of Jutegn.

The State Funeral is scheduled for Friday in Tingsted at 11am at the Isperan Basilica. A route of honor is scheduled and his burial is to take place at the Royal War Cemetery per his wishes.
