Rheinbund is known especially for its cars, but it also builds trains. We have the perfect solution for every train demand, from high-speed long distance trains to underground trainsets, and also for cargo transport. Magarus is the Rheinian company that produces trainsets, locomotives and waggons. Here is a list of our products.

The Magarus Velocitas is an electric trainset with an operational top speed of up to 380 km/h. This trainset set a speed record of 487 km/h.
The special feature of this trainset is, that all the train technique (engines, transformers, air pumps etc.) is fitted under the floors of the waggons. The advantages of this technique are that the complete length of the train can consist of passenger compartments, and that the axle load is divided more equally over the axles.
In principle, this train is delivered in sets consisting of eight or sixteen waggons (including the head and tail waggons), but sets consisting of ten, twelve or fourteen waggons can be delivered as well. Two eight-waggon sets can be coupled to form one train.
The Velocitas can be customised from the inside, and to a certain extent from the outside as well. For instance, depending on the standard height of the viaducts and the tunnels, it is possible to build higher or lower trainsets. It is also possible to make trainsets according to customised specifications regarding track widths and railstation designs.
In the standard configuration used by the Rheinische Bahn, this trainset has a restaurant waggon.

Magarus also has a high-speed solution for railtracks which cannot be adjusted to speeds above 300 km/h, e.g. due to curves which cannot be adjusted. That is the MTE 250S. This electric trainset has an operational top speed of 250 km/h. Also this trainset has all the train technique under the waggon floors. Special tilting techniques make it possible to operate these trainsets on curved tracks with speeds up to 250 km/h (depending on the curves).
This trainset can be delivered in various configurations, from five to fourteen waggons (head and tail waggons included).
A diesel variant is available as well. That is the MTD 200S. This trainset consists of four waggons (including the head and tail waggons), and has an operational top speed of 200 km/h. A speed record for diesel trainsets at 222 km/h was achieved with the predecessor of this train. The MTD 200S looks the same as the MTE 250S, and also has all the train technique under the floors. This train is operated by the Rheinische Bahn on non-electrified railtracks, but can also be a high-speed solution on non-electrified railtracks in other parts of the world.
In the standard configuration used by the Rheinische Bahn, this trainset has a restaurant waggon.

The MTE 160Z and MTE 200Z are double-deck trainsets that can be used in long-range and regional train traffic. The operational top speed is 160 km/h (MTE 160Z) or 200 km/h (MTE 200Z). These trains can be configured like the following:
Propelled head and tail waggons with one to six middle waggons in-between. Two of these configurations can be coupled to form one train.
A propelled waggon and a steering waggon at the ends, and one or two middle waggons in-between. Several of these configurations can be coupled to form one train.
A locomotive (diesel or electric) at one end, a steering waggon at the other end, and up to nine middle waggons in-between.
The first two configurations can be combined into one single train.
The MTE 160Z and MTE 200Z can be ordered in a fixed configuration, but it is also possible to buy individual waggons and configure them according to varying needs. It is also possible to just buy middle waggons and couple them to a locomotive without a steering waggon at the other end.

Another solution for regional and long-range train traffic, but also for local train traffic, are the single deck trainsets MTE 100, MTE 160 and MTE 200 (all electric), and the MTD 100 and MTD 160 (both diesel). These are trainsets that can be delivered in two-, three-, four- or six-waggon configuration. Several trainsets of the same propulsion can be coupled to form one train. The top speeds range from 100 km/h (MTE 100 and MTD 100) to 200 km/h (MTE 200). The trainsets can be delivered with or without tilting technique. The MTE 100 and MTD 100 are specially designed for local train traffic with many stops and few distance between the stops: They are specially equipped for accelerating fast and stopping often.

Some Rheinian cities have city rail tracks connecting various city quarters with each other. Such a city rail track is called “Stadtbahn” or more often “S-Bahn”. The one in Fehrbellin is the most famous one. We developed the MTS 50 for the use on S-Bahn-railroads. The MTS train series take their electricity from a busbar. The S-Bahn in Fehrbellin uses direct current to feed the trains, but we can also deliver the MTS 50 in an alternating current version.

The MTU 40 is Magarus’s underground trainset. We build this trainset in a narrow-gauge and broad-gauge version. The trainset consists of four waggons. Two or three trainsets can be coupled to form one train.

Magarus offers a tramway set as well. It is the MSB 20.

Magarus also produces individual locomotives, for passenger trains but also for cargo trains. These are the ME 160, ME 200, ME 230 and MD 160. These locomotives have operational top speeds of 160 to 230 km/h (depending on the version). The diesel locomotive generates 2.0 MW power; the electric locomotive between 2.2 to 6.4 MW.

The MDR is a switcher locomotive for industrial areas.

In addition to the trainsets and locomotives, Magarus produces individual passenger waggons in each possible configuration, as well as all types of cargo waggons.
