Valls, August 2023

The Alcazar of Valls has been popularised in the world first as a touristic spot, but more recently as the headquarters of the world summit that brought forth the Valls Pact. Now, it was being prepared again for a summit, but much smaller this time, with two of Ebria's farther neighbours, Neustria and Thaumantica. The three nations were the big players in Gallia, with Engwahl especially being a historical rival of Ebria in its colonies and an even longer one of Neustria's going as far as the middle ages. The joint importance of catholicism in Thaumantica and Ebria made it easy for the two nations to ammend their past relation and to find that there is high potential for a stable cordial relationship, but Lacianism, the Neustrian view that the king is Lisbourg is to be a head of the church within the kingdom, limiting the authority of the pope, while still keeping the nation within the church, not fully breaking it like the protestants, still was quite a barrier that historically iritated the Ultrabahíans of Ebria (Ultramontanists) and their Thaumantican equivalents. Even so, for about seven decades, Ebria held a pragmatic foreign policy and pulled for a closer relationship with Neustria and now its goal was to bring together Neustria and Thaumantica too.

The Thaumantican and Neustrian delegations have arrived a few hours apart, but have been received at Cuatros Vientos International Airport by President Dario Alfonso Rios Lopez and Vice-President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pedro Mendez. They have been then escorted to their hotels, where they will be hosted, with the Thaumanticans specially close to the San Idelfonso Cathedral, as Dario Rios requested, as he through they might enjoy it. The program for the meeting was a working dinner in the first evening, followed by a meeting with King Manuel III the next day at noon and a last meeting the same evening.

The delegations were led into one of the dinner rooms of the Alcazar, with a long table set up formally, with Tianese made china plates, silverware and crystal glasses. The menu consisted of Ebrian foods, a salmorejo starter, either red, made of tomatoes or white, made of almonds, followed by the main course, which was either cod, octopus or some vegetable and legume dishes, all followed by locally made but worldwide known Sahagun and Ranero wines. The lack of meat would be visible for a practicing Catholic, as there were only a few days until the Assumption of Mary, and officially it was a feasting period, but as it was a Sunday, fish was allowed and the Ebrians pushed it a bit with the octopus too.

The delegations were seated in such a way to have the Neustrians face the Thaumanticans, with the Ebrias divided in two, Dario Rios seated by the Neustrians and Pedro Mendez by the Thaumanticans, each other them facing each other. Both delegations were invited to take a seat and as the food was announced, both Mendez and Rios, knowing the Thaumanticans, knew to expect a prayer before eating, so they hoped the Neustrians will do their best to not provoke anything by ignoring it and not participating.

A Cantignian led the Thaumantic delegation in this diplomatic exchange with accompany actors such as his Nievish wife, an Engwahlian who wore an eye patch, and an emergency translator to provide flavor context to what he might say: also Cantignian.

"Did y'all just feel that?" the Cantignian, a junior Quorum member of the Grand Covenant, asked as his wife's blue yes widened - reaching towards him and making sure he did not shoot up to deliver a sermon befit of Thaumantic Saints in this room of traditionalists. Oswald Cassady had great command over the heart and soul of Cantignians, yet put off Thaumanticans and especially the wider world when not muzzled by Margaret Cassady, a Nieve who went down-Cannie for university and never returned.

"We feel so very blessed to be here," Margaret said, cautioning her husband to not razzle dazzle a moment of closeness with Christ that surely did not exist. Neither knew the Engwahlian well, nor why he wore the eyepatch, but this was typical of missions beyond Cantignia for the Communal Order. A diplomatic mission came with an agenda, a checklist really, that they had to consult and send back to Caitekurke when they were through. The Engwahlian had actually brought his rather than memorizing and was eyeing it intensely while his communal compatriots harnessed attention.

"No finer food nor finer friends exist than here in Ebria," the Engwahlian, a software engineer from Clover Computing and Order diplomatic license, said with cheer, "I know not the Ebrian word for 'sommelier', and know true none exist down-Cannie, but is not the finest wine ye have ever tasted?"

"Tis!" Margaret Cassady blurted before her husband could fight the point of low Cannie culture, offering a cheers to the table after the more formal prayer by standing and offering a "cin-cin" as the Radlians did.
