Not sure whether this is the right place (please delete my comment if it's taking up space you wanted).

But I was wondering what Engellexic State Atheist. From what I understand from the factbook above it's a religion in and of itself, though up to now I just understood it as state-enforced atheism. Is it an actual religion & how is it growing in Cantignia?

Other than that pretty great concept and nice to get an actual fascist state after having quite a lot of everything else. I hope to see how it plays out in RP.

Right, I can’t say I understand if it is meant to be a complex set of understandings set out by the old country government that leads one to atheism or if it’s a somewhat more organic fall from faith.

Absent of what Engellex can link us to, I imagined the Cannie Atheists to be mostly parrots of our worlds Dawkins and new atheist equivalents. They might consistently cite an Engell State atheist author over and over again, crusading for atheism like you might have seen on the internet in the 00s.

Hallucinogens suppressed!? Oh hell naw. Being serious, looks like another fun ride, looking forward to seeing how it develops myself. Might behoove us all to create entries on (anti-)beliefs eventually, for all our quirkier bits.

Will your Christian fundamentalism prevent any serious relations between Cantignia and Azraq?

No, the government does not really expect other nations to become Mormons or take missionaries voluntarily at this time. That may change, but for now it’ll be focused on assessing regional dynamics and figuring out how it fits in the world.

Proposing Kinism: A Cantigian Philosophy with Engell Roots

Between starting the Cantignia wiki recently and a busy work season for what I do, I have been mulling over the integration of my nation into the Engellexic world as it exists in this RP scenario rather than the 50s - where a lot of my Canbrained ideas came from. Mormonism and radical Christianity just do not fit in with the Engellsphere, and Cantignia should have been struck down from this order a century ago most likely if things played out naturally. I thus want to amend the religious basis of my country by doing a short presumptious thought exercise on historical Engellex.

Per Engellex's wiki and sidebar discussions on the matter, in 1440 the Declaration of Nag's Head separated Engell provinces from Burgundian Franks, their monarchical system, and the High Church of Catholicism. Also per the wiki: just over one hundred years passes before the mechanisms of the Republican system are truly codified in a constitution in 1555. This in my opinion, not unlike the American revolution, was a rebellion of merchants and middle class to cut the distant crown out of the profits, and much more uniquely purge Christian elements from corrupting the common people with fictional beliefs.

I do think there's an absence of insanity and return to sanity in that hundred year stretch, where in real life Martin Luther lived and died. I am thinking about it as the "Engellexic Dark Century", where the mettle of the First Republic is tested by quickly extinguished doomsday or fertility prophets, peasant or merchant revolts, and probing by the Franks, Jyskerige-Austweg, and others who are imbibing Protestantism. In this time of chaos which is mostly in my head, not sure if in others, I want to construct a movement within the machine that would go on to colonize most of the world that is not precisely the same. With the assumption that each outbreak of Christianity and Protestantism is duly purged in Engellex, I think many philosophies and fields of thought scrubbed of religiosity would manifest from thinkers who wish to not only influence, but survive. One such field could be "Kinism", a tiered philosophy that most importantly to Cantignia spells out to peasants what comes naturally to them: the importance of family bonds and structure. It also follows a period of war and likely pestilence, which means it should be a rabidly pro-natalist ideology that flirts with and tempers man and woman's evolutionary desires.

I'm also talking about a recognition of Anglo-Saxon based family structures and inheritance traditions, that may have actually used the early printing press to reintegrate these ideas. Important copulation aspects would be reinforcing the importance of communal and parental awareness of the courtship process between youths, accountability for pregnancy i.e. formal commitments witnessed by many when two youths then shared a human responsibility. Where Kinism becomes radical perhaps is that it delineates liberty of ones family as a masculine responsibility that belong to a man so low as a peasant father. He is responsible for the defence of his home, and must organize with cousins and clansmen to form patrols and nightwatches to defend the community. The primary aim is of course to form or participate in a family that can rise to the level of the great Engellexic merchant empires, or at least live independently from them. In the Republican system I imagine the common man incurs many service fees rather than crown taxes, so if one can organize his family to perform those services independently he has a lot to gain . . and lose from bigger fish.

So what I wish to do is end the existence of Mormonism and Radical Christianity in Cantignia, and instead embrace Engellexic Atheism with some caveats. Kinism to some might be racialist, to others the role of a second son to form his own great branch, and to perhaps most normal people (peasants of today) how most thinkers in Cantignia today expect them to form their lives. At some point in the Westernesse Colonial Era I imagine these Kinists would have grown in small pockets in Engellex to irk ruling Republicans or Merchants with community grown ideas, and tension between them ranging from violence to polite disagreement may have caused many to pick up and leave to test their lower atom kin structures on the frontier.

There is still an onus on me to make a wiki article that describes this better than I have, and now a lot of room for RP of a pro-Natalist Atheist State with a coherent family structure - a challenge I'll fail to say the least, but at least it will be fun. It's designed to fracture immediately based on clan and circumstance, which I think validates what I've already imagined as the Cantigian "Covenant" system, where communities outside of the capital Vesper have unique systems of laws and governance . . A lot to do still.

I agree if you want Cantignia to be a firm part of the Engellkin family then yes having a Mormon esque doesn't make much sense HOWEVER I don't see why you couldn't go down the same route as RL America in being founded by religious dissidents.

You’re right, and the way I am envisioning it is that Vesper the Capital is the seat of atheist overreach and the smaller rural covenant communities are where a diverse cornucopia of religious dissidents have set up there own experimental communities such as Mormons, Anabaptists/Amish types, and now that I think of it Muslims might have legal basis to set up their own no-go zone for citizens outside of their covenant community. Dunno, something to think about.

In a more appropriate thread, you should expand on Wilbur Rydell's motivations. Capitalism? Something else? A decade of trying to build a revolution is a substantial investment of time and energy.

You’re right, the Sylvanian revolution is so long and I had originally intended on keeping one character for simplicity and branding value, but a decade of jihad over taxes may seem dumb without a better background or list of travel and events during this time.

A lot of this isn’t very well thought out . .

I would say though the purpose of this campaign was capitalism and enrichment initially, and that the ideals of the revolution were packed on as a vehicle when opposition to Monarchy and fictionalism may have proved more compelling than one man getting rich.

Shameless self promotion here, but perhaps Rydell was a follower of some radical Cussian proto- to early Officially Nativist philosopher, and was acting on some of the crazy mojo and visions for the future of the early crowd of Westernesse's native political thinkers? Someone very Thomas Paine maybe. Really, pick a random Founding Father or contemporary figure, we'll radicalize him a bit, slap a Cussian name on there, and there we go.

Yeah certainly, I’ll look to add that in and perhaps look for collaboration on 1900 on as my nation begins falling into the Cussian sphere.

Sounds good, and aligns with my general intention for the overview of Cussian history (itself forthcoming in the very near term). Basically the first half century of Cussian independence was one long war and grand consolidation, so it would be around that point it was able to begin to exert particular influence abroad (again).

I’d just like to note that the Two Kingdoms haven’t been to war (formally) since 1828. Feel free to have your northern successes in the early 19th century be quite a bit larger than you may have imagined.
—Thus naturally, when you invade Pohjanmaa, you aren’t attacking the Royal Army anymore, but likely another regional power (which has been floated to be Ivernia, as it’s an NPC and that doesn’t conflict with others storylines who don’t want to deal with the Pohjanmaan story) For the sake of ease, let’s formalize that here as Ivernia. In this sense, you’d likely find support from some elements in Austwegian and Jysk society that would want to have Pohjanmaan liberated by the NRA.

Another point of interest, is that “Markland” in the Jysk-Austwegian linguistic community stretches from the W. Engell Republic all the way down to Beautancus. Westernesse being a term that isn’t used in Jysk-Austwegian linguistics formally, but is understood as the Engellkin term for the Occidental continent. Basically, Markland is in this sense is like “North America” while the term “Vinland” I’ve thought about using for “South America.” In fact, I’m thinking I’ll utilize this conceptualization of the Viking Age world to explain how the Nordic world sees the west in our world.

Otherwise, I like what I see. I can add some flavor by adding complimentary facets of the GNE and later Two Kingdoms to the events in WER. I imagine the WER and Sylvania (and to a lesser extent Beautancus and Seneca) as the primary location during the famines of the mid to late 19th century which saw a great deal of emigration. It’s worth noting that I’m going to RP the repatriation of thousands of citizens in the late 19th century and early 20th century where Sylvanian and WER culture will have a cultural impact on the beginnings of democracy in the Two Kingdoms.
