The Allied States emphatically protests Walstatdt's unilateral, unprovoked, militaristic arms buildup. As a remote island nation which faces no threats to it's national security Walstadt has no need for advanced warplanes or other modern weapons, unless of course it's ambitions are more than simply defense.

The Principality is amazed by the attitude of our friends and neighbours in Kyiv. We are but a small country in an increasingly volatile world and simply wish to safeguard our independence by modernising our part-time defence forces; the idea that our actions threaten anybody is laughable.

The Constitutional State considers it to be Walstadt's right to build up defensive assets of a strength that its people deem suitable for their defense.

Schmidt Under Fire Over Military Expansion

Interior Minister Konrad Schmidt is fighting for his political career following widespread criticism of his handling of the controversial military expansion programme.

Questions were raised in Parliament today after it emerged that the Princely Household has placed a separate order for military vehicles to equip the Princess’ own guard brigade. A spokesman for Princess Anna explained that she had ‘lost patience’ with the official procurement process managed by the State Ministry of the Interior, which has yet to secure any bids for lucrative defence contracts worth up to six billion Thalers.

“I would really like to know how the Princely Household, with far fewer resources at its disposal, has managed to secure the equipment it needs, within budget, when the Interior Ministry cannot even obtain a single bid,” asked Member of Parliament Thomas Thielemann. “All I can say is thank God for Princess Anna!” Others were even more outspoken. “Perhaps we should just give the entire military procurement budget to the Princess, on the grounds that she will make better use of it than the Interior Minister, who is obviously too busy to properly manage things,” said Gerda Freytag.

Prime Minister Drosselmeyer has resisted calls to sack Mr Schmidt, but has promised a full enquiry into the minister’s conduct. “It is important to ensure that taxpayers’ money is being used efficiently,” said the Prime Minister.

Bemjamin Stokes, Chief Colonial Officer for Foreign Affairs, has been instructed to encode the following dispatch from
Felix Ilchester, the Chancellor of the Commonwealth of Cantigny

To the Patriotic Sons & Daughters of Walstadt

The Commonwealth of Cantigny keenly recognizes Interior Minister Konrad Schmidt's intentions as both wise and timely, as the threat of Neo-Gaelic Imperialism draws near, and a new reign of terror is unleashed from Republican Militants of all skin-colors. As a Nation that is faithful to honour and tradition, Cantigny shares interest in the steadfast protection of Walstadt's Princess, and is willing to facilitate contractors in possession of modern and equitable security technologies utilized by the Commonwealth's highest dignitaries.
