Abadíes Launches Worlds First Civilian Nuclear Power Plant
WWB Saraqusta 17 Jul. 1954

After three years of construction work, the Saraqusta Nuclear Power Plant was connected to the Abadíen national power grid for the first time today, with engineers announcing the plant running "flawlessly". The graphite moderated and water cooled single reactor of the Saraqusta Nuclear Power Plant provided a net capacity of around 5MWe before it was taken off the grid again by technicians to evaluate the results of this first run.

"We are very satisfied with the results," the head technician of the plant told World Workers Broadcasting, "the succesful construction of this plant puts Abadíes at the forefront of modern energy technology and will provide much needed electricity for the future. Having evaluated the results of the test run, we are now ready to link up the plant permanently."

In the capitalist world, meanwhile, the news of the Saraqusta Nuclear Power Plant were received with shock. It is further proof to the inherent superiority of the socialist economies that a country like Abadíes, ravaged by foreign aggression during the Great European War, could complete such a shining example of modern nuclear technology within a mere three years. The need for nuclear energy in Abadíes is in itself a symbol for the speed of the reconstruction effort, if one remembers the extent of industrial dismantling undertaken by the occupation forces during the war.

The construction of the Saraqusta Nuclear Energy Plant was a purely national effort, undertaken by Abadíen workers. Merely a number of engineers and nuclear scientists from Carentania were present in advisory and observing functions, aiding the construction efforts as much as learning from the worlds first civilian nuclear energy plant to spread the knowledge further amongst the socialist brotherstates.
