Police raid offices of the Mazagan Democratic Party in the Mazagan Autonomous Region

Police officers entered the offices of the Mazagan Democratic Party in Ahvaaz during the early morning. seizing party files and computers and several party functionaries and members were taken into custody. While several party members were later released from detention later during the day those who remained under arrest, including the party leaders, were officially charged with engaging in sectarian activities and sedition.

The raid on the offices comes days after Zander Atassi and Adnan El-Motfy, the two assemblymen representing the MDP in the Mazagan Regional Assembly, were arrested earlier this week and also charged with engaging in sectarian activities and sedition.

The Mazagan Democratic Party, that claims to defend urodoah interests in the Mazagan archipelago, has often been accused of being a front for urudoah nationalists. It's predecessor party, the Urudoah Party, faced similar accusations before it being banned and its leaders, still serving in prison, were arrested on similar charges.

At this time, however, it is still unknown if the MDP will be facing the same ban, as neither the regional or national governments have released any statement.

Mazagan Democratic Party declared illegal by government as tensions grow

The Zhoryan government has earlier today issued a statement declaring the banning of the Mazagan Democratic Party, after the High Tribunal found the party to be unconstitutional on grounds of its sectarian and nationalist ideology.

All party assets have been ceased by regional authorities, with all party offices being closed down, after the party's illegality was confirmed by the government decree. Further searches by local police have found several members of the party in hiding in a small apartment in Jerzam, were along with party propaganda and stored banknotes the police found several small arms.

The spokesperson for the party and the defence council of the list of eighty-one party members, which however keeps growing as the government gathers evidence and charges party members, currently accused of several counts of sedition, sectarianiasm, illegal gun ownership, conspiracy to commit murder, and other such crimes, continue to deny any accusation levied against the party or its members, and continue to defend the fact that the party always acted within the boundaries of the law.

With tensions growing in the Mazagan autonomous region many fear that sectarian violence may erupt again in the archipelago, as it happened during the 70's, during which the Mazagan-Urodoah Liberation Front waged war against the Zhoryan government.

While the Mazagan government, led by the Progress Party, has not issued any statement regarding growing insecurity in the region, a source in the regional government has assured that if the situation turns sour there have already been discussions to declare a regional state of emergency and request military intervention if this is found to be necessary.

National Unity at Stake, Government Slow to Act

Urodoah nationalism and sectarianism have long been an issue in our country, but interestingly it has only been in the islands of the Mazaganese and the Arbazanese archipelagos that they have ever have been agressively against the union of the country and the zhoryan people. It is in the provinces with the largest concentration of urodoah citizens that these frequent outbursts of barbaric violence have been more frequent, while the smaller populations of urodoah in the Karim and Nerbazan archipelagos and those communities on the mainland have had no such history of violence against their neighbours and their country.

Unless we want a repeat of the bombing campaign that plagued the two archipelagos from 1977 to 1979 then we must act quick and decisively, so that these events may never repeat. Arresting party leaders and other members of a movement that there should have never come to be much less be allowed to exist under the constituition isn't enough. These methods were tried before and they have failed.

Permiting the Mazagan Democratic Party and the Solidarity Party of Arbazan to partake in the political stage was a fatal mistake on the part of the sucessive governments led by the Progressive Party. This has allowed them to disseminate and legitimize their message of sectarianism, nationalism and treason. Compromising with radicals is not possible, as it will only teach a radical how to better hide their malicious ideas under the covers of legality.

The only solution is to make it harder for these urodoah radicals to spread their ideals. Relocating the urodoah to the mainland and disseminating them througout the country is the only solution. It is not only necessary to relocate those that can be marked as a supporters of the perfidious regionalist parties, but a majority of urodoah would have to be relocated, if not simply for the fact that, as mentioned before, the current culture of permittance has only allowed radicals to better conceal themselves.

It calls for no bloodshed, would not be done without the necessary social and economic support that those relocated would necessitate, and could accomplish much good for the nation and the urodoah people, who, once relocated, will be led to better integrate themselves as they find eachother far from their original home, which is the final goal of this proposed relocation, as it would stop once and for all the sad notion that has become widespread in this community, that the urodoah are not part of the zhoryan nation.

First zhoryan casualty of war in Bourgogne

Amarte Hamedinne, 29 years old, has been confirmed by the Foreign Affairs Office to have been the first Zhoryan to die in the conflict engulfing Bourgogne. Hammedine, an History graduate from Mirt, according to the government report released, died in an engelkin airstrike in the outskirts of the city of Boulon.

Hamedinne was one of a few zhoryans serving in the international volunteer force with the forces of the Burgundian People's Republic, organized by the Society of Friends of Bourgogne and by the Patriotic Front, which Hamedinne was a member of, as Hamedinne is claimed to have volunteered due to being an ideological kindred with the People's Republic. While the Society of Friends of Bourgogne claims to only provide humanitarian aid the government claims that the organzation has aided and funded at least eleven volunteers serving in the ranks of the People's Republic.

With the unlikely return of Hamedinne's body to Zhorya, his funeral was conducted in Mirt, his birthplace, and was attended family members, friends and members of the Society of Friends of Bourgogne, the Patriotic Front, and the national government. The government has however vowed to do what is possible to see the return of Hamedinne's body to his homeland.

When questioned about the possibility of the imposition of travel restrictions the government representative at the funeral answered that "[...] travel restrictions to the war afflicted zones have been in place since the beggining of the conflict, and the government has informed would-be travellers about the dangers of the conflict, and we are doing all that is possible to stop the loss of zhoryan lives and bring those in the country back safe." However, outside of restricting travel to neighbouring countries, there is little deterring would be volunteers from travelling to a country bordering the People's Republic and traversing the land border.

While the situation in Bourgogne is dire, the arrival of the CONPROFOR seems to be the first stride towards reestablishing peace, but the further loss of life is still quite real. While the zhoryan community in pre-war Bourgogne was relatively small, with an estimated 200 immigrants residing in the country, most of them have sucessfully evacuated the country and were initally placed in refugee camps before being located and aided to return to Zhorya by the Foreign Affairs Office. However, an estimated 50 zhoryans still reside in the country, though mostly on the easten regions that have so far not been afflicted by the ravages of war.

That more and more young people around the world are losing their lives to this conflict, staked upon the memory of Ouistreham and the independence of Neustria, is truly regrettable. If the friends, family, or associates of this Amarte Hamedinne can be more specific concerning this individual's participation in the invasion and occupation of independent Neustria by the firebombing Burgundian People's Republic, then perhaps we may investigate their death and attempt to retrieve the deceased's remains for their necessary and immediate return to Zhola.

Tensions Rising in Mazagan

Tensions between the urodoah population in Mazagan and both the local authorities and zhory population has reached a new high after clashes between urodoah protesters and police in the streets of the regional capital, Jerzam, led to the death of four protesters, with many wounded and several arrests. These clashes were followed by further raids by local authorities that targetted prominent members of the urodoah community and several urodoah organizations, leading to the arrest of several dozen community leaders accused of inciting rioting, such as the leading iman of Mazagan and the president of the Jerzam Youth Club.

There have also been several reports of attacks on the urodoah community, which urodoah community spokespeople have accused the local police of having a turned a blind eye to. Growing discontent among the urodoah members of the police force over the current emergency in the region has reportedly led to the resignation of several members of the police force. The regional police commissioner has chosen to give little importance to the reports of resignations, clarifying that the police is looking into every act of violence no matter who commited it, and that the very small number of resignations was mostly down to either family matters.

Meanwhile the several detainees awaiting their trial over the declaration of the Mazagan Democratic Party as an illegal organization continue to wait for further developements, while the government seems content to continue delaying the case, perhaps hoping not to further escalate tensions in the region over the court's decision.

Les Confédération des Petites-Pays has taken note of the great respect and tribute paid to the late King Albert. The Queen Marie-Charlotte wishes to inform you of her desire to visit the street some day in the future. Kind actions such as these give her great solace during this period of shock and mourning.

The attitudes in which our nations and additionally our peoples have conducted affairs over the previous weeks has given this government profound feelings of good faith and blossoming friendship which may guide us forward in both peace and harmony. With designs towards the bearing of fruit in such a relationship, I can say with quite some confidence that it would be of great initiative for our governments to work towards the formalization of not just continuing improved relations, but additionally the strengthening of such relations.

It can only be said that bearing this idea in mind, Louisiane compelled to offer an olive branch in the formalization of agreements towards stronger economic and technological ties. Such your government feel obligated in its own capacity to pursue similar improvements in relations, then this government would find it appealing to host a meeting between our representatives.

Explosion in downtown Jerzam causes severeal dead and wounded

Today afternoon, in the busy streets of downtown Jerzam, the Mazaganese capital, an explosion caused six reported deaths and at least twelve wounded, among them a mother and her young daughter, which were quickly rushed to the near hopsital and are currently under close medical surveillance, though reports seem to indicate their situation is no longer critical. The attack has not been claimed by any organization but local authorities have already declared that this was an attack from urudoah sectarian terrorists.

With tensions in Mazagan not being assuaged by the government's policy of leaving control to the local elections and further drawing out the court procedures around the case against the Mazagan Democratic Party and several other local urodoah organizations, it is clear that this approach had not only proven inneficient but has now been proved to be wholly damaging, resulting in the loss of life.

So far neither the regional governor nor the Premier's office have released any statement, however sources close to the Mazaganese government claim that meetings over the declaration of martial law are currently being held between the regional government and the national government.

State of Tiburia
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Public Statement

Propontis, 5 October 2019
To Whom it May Concern,

The State of Tiburia condemns this most repugnant and cowardly attack which has achieved nothing but the killing and injuring of innocents. Such barbarism will not earn its perpetrators any sympathy at home or abroad but will instead isolate them. It is in the interest of all parties that such atrocities are not repeated.

We offer our most sincere condolences to government and people of Zhola, and hope that this occurrence will be the last of its kind in their country. Having experienced terror attacks in the not too distant past, the Tiburian people know the pain and sorrow of such needless brutality all too well.

As a sign of solidarity, the flags of all Tiburian diplomatic missions in Zhola shall fly at half a mast during the official period of mourning.

Signed and sealed,

Petros K. Lazarides
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Government of Tiburia

Great and Good Friend,

The Confédération des Petites-Pays (Confederation of the Smallands) is in a state of sorrow observing the events of terror that occurred in Jerzam.

While the political background and plight of the Urodoah people is not lost upon us, acts of terrorism are never acceptable means to achieving political progress. This pathway will only lead to more innocents lost and blood in the streets for generations.

As usual, Louisiane offers itself as host to any potential political solution. In the mean time the flag at the Embassy and Consulates of Petites-Pays in Zhorya will fly their flags at half mast. Additionally, a lunch time meeting will be prepared a week from now to remember the victims.

Sincerely,

The People's Federal Socialist Republic of Kadikistan and its Workers' Government wholly condemns this sectarian terrorist attack in Jerzam and wish to offer not only our most sincere condolences to the victims of this cowardly action, but also our assistance in finding the organisation responsible should our esteemed neighbours request it. Such organisations and the people behind them must be rooted out without exception nor clemency.
