Genre: Mountain & Rural Drama

Synopsis:

Set in the remote highlands of southern Urpala, Ashes of Winter follows Elara Veyn, a young physician assigned to a declining mountain town whose economy once depended entirely on a nearby coal mine. For generations the mine provided prosperity, but after its closure the community entered a slow decline marked by unemployment, migration, and social isolation.
When an exceptionally harsh winter strikes the region, the town becomes temporarily cut off from the rest of Norlanda. Roads disappear beneath snow, supplies become limited, and old tensions among residents begin to surface. As the weeks pass, Elara witnesses how different families cope with hardship: some cling to memories of a better past, others dream of leaving forever, while a few attempt to reinvent the community's future.
At the center of the story is Brenn Korath, a former miner struggling to adapt to a world that no longer values the skills that defined his entire life. Through his friendship with Elara, the film explores questions of identity, dignity, and belonging in a rapidly changing society.
Rather than focusing on mystery or suspense, Ashes of Winter is a deeply human story about resilience during times of economic and social transformation. The "ashes" of the title symbolize not only the abandoned coal industry, but also the fading memories of a generation watching its way of life disappear.
The film became known for its breathtaking mountain cinematography, realistic portrayal of rural life, and emotionally restrained performances. Critics praised its depiction of ordinary people confronting change, and it is widely regarded as one of the foundational works of the Mountain & Rural Drama genre in modern Norlandic cinema.

The First Crown

Historical Drama

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The year is 1758.
For centuries, the Norlandic lands have remained divided among proud tribal realms, each ruled by ancient noble houses whose loyalty belongs first to their own people rather than to any common nation.
Peace is fragile.
Old rivalries over trade, borders, and succession continue to simmer beneath the surface, while neighboring Albireth quietly exploits every division.
Among the tribal rulers, Lanireth Elvar, heir to House Thalorin of Shaelor, is admired as a gifted negotiator but dismissed by many as an idealist. Unlike the other princes, he believes the tribes will eventually destroy themselves if they continue fighting over yesterday's victories.
When the Crisis of the Triple Succession plunges three neighboring realms into political chaos, alliances begin collapsing one after another. Border raids increase. Merchants abandon the roads. Entire villages become trapped between competing armies that claim to defend them.
The Council of Norska is summoned in a final attempt to prevent open war.
Few expect it to succeed.
Inside the ancient Hall of Winds, Lanireth discovers that winning the council is not his greatest challenge.
The men sitting around him are not enemies.
They are proud rulers who each believe they alone can preserve Norlanda's future.
Every concession feels like surrender.
Every compromise appears as weakness.
As negotiations stall, Albireth secretly finances several factions hoping to provoke a civil war before any agreement can be reached.
Lanireth realizes that defeating a foreign enemy will be easier than overcoming centuries of distrust between his own people.
His greatest sacrifice comes unexpectedly.
To secure the unity of the tribes, he is forced to abandon the woman he loves—Lady Elara Durvael, daughter of one of the most influential western houses. Their marriage could unite two powerful families but would convince the remaining rulers that the future crown belongs to a single dynasty rather than to all Norlandic tribes.
Choosing love could cost the union.
Choosing the union may cost love forever.
As violence spreads across the countryside, Lanireth begins traveling from duchy to duchy instead of remaining behind palace walls.
He walks among fishermen whose harbors stand empty.
Blacksmiths who forge swords instead of farming tools.
Families who no longer know which banner flies above their village.
Gradually he understands that Norlanda does not yet exist.
It survives only as an idea carried by ordinary people who are tired of burying one generation after another.
When the Council reconvenes in March 1761, every delegate knows that history will remember whatever happens inside the Hall of Winds.
After three days and three nights of relentless debate, ten rulers rise together before the ancient Stone Throne.
One by one they lay down the ceremonial swords that had symbolized tribal independence for centuries.
Not as an act of surrender—
—but as a promise that no Norlandic blade would again be raised against another Norlandic tribe.
On 21 March 1761, Lanireth Elvar II is crowned the first King of a united Norlanda, taking the title:
High Sovereign of the Tribes and the People.
Outside, spring rain begins falling over Norska.
Church bells, tribal horns, and harbor bells echo together for the first time.
A child watching the ceremony asks his father:
"What tribe are we now?"
The father smiles before answering:
"Today... we are Norlandic."
