Colonel Herrera decrees: "None shall go to bed hungry anymore!"

In a speech in front of the amassed people in the Plaza 15 de Septiembre, his excellency, Colonel Pedro Herrera Rasgado, president of the United States of Corrientes has announced a state program whose goal will be the aiding of the most impoverished in the United States, with the main element being the end of undernourishment and death from famine. The program, which as of yet is only in planning stages, as it still needs to find necessary funds from the state budget, calls for the creation of a series of soup kitchens in the cities, where every day, people who can't afford food can get a warm meal. This represents only a first step, as the "urban poor" social strata is rising at accelerated levels as the country continues to develop and inequality is rife. The 2nd step is much more ambitious as besides offering a free hot meal once a day to the unfortunate ones, it asks for the creation of social housing and a generalised improvement of the housing and healthcare conditions in the nation.
The plan has raised the hopes of many, especially the National Federation of Labour, which has campaigned for many years for the improvement of the living conditions of the Correntine proletariat, especially for the people whom have recently moved in from the rural areas into the cities. Many analysts are already seen the Herrera presidency and the general episode of the Azul Revolution, to be a turn from the conservative and semi-feudal old system to a new form of politics that is much more influenced by the Gallo-Germanian politics and will provide for the creation of a proto-welfare system. Many have also observed that the Azul Revolution and Herrera's policies also come in the context of generalized post-war great labour agitation, from the mines of Natal, to the strikes and terror attacks in Remion and the generalised chaos caused by the fight for emancipation of the labour movement in Implaria.
The speech was hailed by the people who listened to it in in the Plaza, and later it was broadcast by the Radiodifusora Nacional to the people from all over the country. The way spontaneous demonstrations of support for Colonel Herrera have started in faraway cities such as Rio Verde, Potobamba or Titil, shows how powerful radio is set to become and ease the transmission of information, and the administration of a large country the size of the United States of Corrientes.
"The time has come for us to work together to improve the lives of our own people. We start the plan now, and by the next 15th of September, when Corrientes celebrates a century of freedom, I promise you all that none shall go to sleep hungry, in this nation that we are building! The people supported us against the oligarchs, the people supported us with their ballots, in the election. The time has now come for us to provide! I promise you all, none shall die of hunger anymore! Our goals are simple and achievable: decent life, solidarity, equity! Our duty is to bring social justice and equity to all!" stated Colonel Herrera in his speech.

Selva State incorporates three localities from disputed area
Governor Agustin Machado: "The Conquest of the Selva ought to continue!"

This morning, the office of the governor of the Selva State has announced that the localities of Estancia El Dorado, Boyuibe and Machareti, all situated in the disputed area of Meseta Verde. Currently, much of the de facto administration of the Meseta Verde is organised by the Gran Occidentian authorities in the city of Amatenango de la Frontera, while the Correntine part of the Meseta is administered by the Selva State. Even so, the border is still very volatile, as the deep jungle that is not even to this day correctly cartographed and the chronic lack of state clerks and manpower both in the police, militas or workforce, combined with the apatrid tribes of still not contacted natives that live there, makes the Meseta pretty much a territory of anarchy from which banditry and other issues emerge. The border dispute between Corrientes and Gran Occidentia stems from the days of the old Aurarian colonial empire, which created the first proto states that evolved into the modern day republics. The Meseta Verde was originally designated as part of the Viceroyalty of Corrientes and administered from Callao, until the last 50 years of the Empire, when it was given to the Viceroyalty of Gran Occidentia.
During the first decade post-independence a war was fought between Rio Bravo and Callao, which created the current border, with Corrientes claiming the area because of its historical precedent and the existence of Yteia natives living in the Meseta, the nation being a part of the United States of Corrientes. On the other side, Gran Occitania is claiming the area as it is respecting the borders from the historical administrative divisions of the Aurarian Empire and also stating that it colonized it, a claim refuted by Corrientes. Statistically, 3rd party observers believe that actually, the vast majority of people living in the Meseta Verde represents stateless people are they are mostly tribes with limited contact with outside world and it is still believed that there are many others un-contacted still.
The recent statement coming from Governor Agustin Machado reheats the dispute regarding the Meseta Verde, as he officially stated that his administration is now incorporating the three aforementioned hamlets and will appoint mayors and a local council to administer them. The incorporation is set to be problematic as the three settlements are de facto under the Gran Occidentian banner, while being in the Meseta disputed zone. While officially no grand action has been undertaken, it is believed that the Selva State will begin to sponsor the creation of a series of councils in exile for the counties and localities which are in the Meseta disputed area. As of yet, the government of foreign affairs did not issue any comment, but inside intel did state that the creation of such councils and appointing mayors like that is within the rights of Governor Machado, as he is doing it 'within his own state'.

Dredging of Rio Catatungo officially completed
  • One of Corrientes' most important infrastructure projects inaugurated
  • Medium sized ships can travel upstream from the Thaumantic to Camiaco
  • President Herrera has officiated the opening ceremony
The Rio Catatungo, the lifeline and the backbone in the northern and central parts of the country, which flows from the Sierra Dorada to the east, into the Azure Sea and the Thaumantic Ocean, is one of Occitania's most important rivers and the biggest in Corrientes. For many years, the river has offered a facile and cheap way of transportation from the capital and port city of Callao towards the Selva states in the north west, and the Sierra Dorada, connecting timber and mining communities, with industrial centres like Turrialba, Camiaco, Cartagena and finally bringing the goods to the gate of the nation, the great metropolis of Callao. As the goods that needed to be transported have increased in quantity, something needed to be done to aid trade and the goods exchange.

In 1998, the first project of the dredging of the Catatungo has been signed by President Cayo Molina, but the project was quickly abandoned out of lack of funds. The recent economic boom has made the current Herrera administration to revive the project, which has started again in 2015, first with an urban revival project of the old river port areas of Callao, which were rejuvenated and transformed into modern housing and leisure estates, while the project also enlarged the maritime port of Callao, as the dredging project will allow medium sized maritime ships to travel upstream, not only riverine barges. The project, which costed more than 32 billion Quris, also included the refurbishment of the river ports of the cities of Cartagena, Camiaco and Turrialba, together with urban renewal projects for the riverine areas.

While the river was used as the main way of transportation inland from Callao since the days of the Chimu Empire, before the Gallo-Germanian colonisation, the development of railways, and the construction of the Selva Railway, which travels in parallel with the river from Callao to Cartagena but then leaves the Catatungo Valley for Antioquia, Heredia, where is divides with one line going to Sipe Sipe and Patacamaya, deep into the Selva, towards the border with Gran-Occidentia and Monterrey, while another line goes towards the lake lands, reaching San Miguel and Potobamba, has brought a steady decrease of the quantity of goods on the river.

With the Selva Railway Corporation being first nationalised in 1920 after it went bankrupt, later privatised again in the early 1970s and since 1990s having financial problems again, the government has observed that the transportation of goods, especially expensive wood essences and minerals is going down because of the unreliability of the railways and has decided to bring back to like the antique route.

It is expected that the new and improved waterway transportation will aid the local economy and will manage to be paid back in the taxes of the future to be booming economy in 15 years.

"The Rio Catatungo has been the backbone of the economy of the northern states of the nation since immemorial. The whole dredging project was an effort of ours to push this ancient travel system into the 21st century, by managing to deepen and clean the river, so that bigger ships are able to navigate without issues up to Camiaco. This will connect some of the major industrial centres of the nation to a cheap and reliable transportation system and will aid the economy of the United States in the long run. Such improvement projects are set to continue as I receive projects from nearly all state governors, from the refurbishment of railways, to the building of new highways or dredging projects such as this. I promise you all that we will continue our work to modernise and improve the transportation network and infrastructure of our nation," stated his excellency, President Pedro Herrera Rasgado in his speech at the opening ceremony of the river port in Cartagena.

National Armed Forces to be expanded and modernised
  • Nicolás Capmany, Minister of Defence signs national plan of modernisation
  • Recent extra-continental tensions bring concerns
  • National Army to be further mechanised and motorised
In an emergency meeting of the cabinet, his excellency President Pedro Herrera Rasgado has requested detailed reports on the events taking place in Gallo-Germania and the potential aftermath of the tragic crisis that unfolds in Pannonia. The national concern is that now, with the entry of the Rus Peoples' Republic into the fray on the side of the Pannonian sovereignist camp, the balance of power has been restored since Pelasgian forces were forced to retreat and with the recent rhetoric of the Rus' leadership being highly bellicose, there are fears of a great continental war looming over Gallo-Germania, bringing together Tarusa, the Pannonian government and the Rus' Peoples' Republic on one side and the Eiffellanders, Remis, Federation of Westernesse, Frankish Empire and the Pannonian separatists on the other.
In such a tense environment, his excellency the president has announced that he wishes to improve the defence capabilities of the Free State of Corrientes, to aid such a pest befalling over our proud nation, and has requested the for months in advance, from the minister of Defence, senor Nicolás Capmany, to create a plan to modernise and expand the National Armed Forces.
The cabinet has met today for the final review of the plan, which has been signed by the President and senor Capmany and it will be sent into the Congress as soon as possible. The Plan, dubbed Operation Protector Supremo, includes the conversion of three divisions from mechanised infantry into motorised ones, the addition of four new Jungle Hunter brigades and the modernisation of the equipment of the air forces, armour forces of the land army and even the creation of a new torpedo boat flotilla to protect the coast.
A very ambitious plan, the government stated that this will rise the defence expenditure by about 20%, which will be done in the span of a decade, so as to not push the national budget under too much strain and create economical problems for the country and its people.
"In the end, our first and foremost defence is our diplomacy, which has kept us away from some of Europe's most gruesome wars. We will base ourselves on that and on the patriotism of our people which will answer the call of their Correntina motherland, should she ever be in trouble. Even so, Operation Protector Supremo is necessary as modern wars are fought more and more mechanised and we need to bring to the table a worthy armed force. As of yet, the National Armed Forces of Corrientes are the 2nd most powerful in the western hemisphere after the Army of the Federation, but that doesn't mean we must wait for enemies to spawn and attack us right in our homeland. We must always stand ready, to respond to any emergency and any conflict arising at any point, even if that means that we must keep our guns close by. The cult of the patriotic duty is what made our nation rose up in revolution and must be what keeps up stand strong and firm today," stated his excellency, President Pedro Herrera Rasgado.
The plan will be sent to be voted upon in the Congress by the next week, with many believing that it will be approved with no issues by the Nationalist Revolutionary Party's caucus, which holds the majority of seats in the legislative.

Eduardo Schaerer assassinated in Embarcadero
  • Correntine Governor-General assassinated in a car bomb;
  • Schaerer was heading an investigation in the cocaine traffic in the Mandatory State;
  • While nothing is certain, it is believed that the local underworld is the main culprit for the assassination;
An explosion has rocked the city of Embarcadero, the capital of the State of Monterrey, this morning at 7, destroying nearby parked cars and shattering the windows of the nearby block of apartments. The source of the explosion was a bomb situated under the driver's seat in the personal car of the Correntine Governor-General, Eduardo Schaerer, killing him and wounding one of his bodyguards.
The Governor-General has visited in the early morning hours an apartment on Avenida Occidentia in central Embarcadero, driving his own car and being followed by a security team of two guards in a different cars. After spending about half an hour in the said apartment, the Governor-General has stormed out, getting into his car and as he started driving, the car exploded, killing him and wounding the driver from his security team.
It is unsure yet why or whom Eduardo Schaerer has visited as the Correntine authorities in Monterrey have not stated anything as of yet, with the exception that a special team from the United States will arrive into the Mandatory State to start an investigation in the assassination.
It is known, that the Correntine authorities in Monterrey have started a campaign against the local underworld, which is in the eyes of the United States mandatory authorities, are using the lack of power of the local authorities to transform Monterrey into a narco-state, producing cocaine deep in the selva and then smuggling it into the Westernesse and Gallo-Germania. When he presented his report to the European Forum and the Correntine Congress, Governor-General Schaerer has stated that he doesn't see Monterrey become a sovereign nation and evolve from its Mandatory status without clearing its act and ending its status as a narco-state where cartels are so embedded in the local authorities that they can be juxtaposed with no issue.
While local tabloids have been quick to march on with the story of a passionate crime where the local underworld would be ready to assassinate him because of some romantic bonds he might have had with the daughter of a local cartel head, which he might have visited this morning, it is believed by many analysts that either his campaign against crime in Monterrey might have brought his demise from the cartels, or he might have been assassinated by Montanero nationalists which want a quick end to the mandate status of Monterrey.

Presidente Jose Constanza visits Callao and the Vale de Catatungo
  • President Herrera receives his Josefino counterpart
  • Solidarity, Cooperation and Brotherhood of Tiburan Occidentian nations
  • Herrera-Constanza Doctrine proclaimed
His excellency, president Jose Constanza, of the Archipelagic Collectivist Republic of San Jose and his delegation, have been received by President Pedro Herrera, the first lady and members of the cabinet at the General Ocampo International Airport and have been escorted by motorcade to the Santa Marta Palace, the seat of the presidency of the Estados Unidos.

The Josefino state visit reciprocates the earlier state visit by President Herrera which concentrated on the economic and academic ties between the nations, and how continued with discussions regarding the political ties between San Jose and Corrientes. The Josefino delegation has spent a day in Callao, at the Santa Marta Palace, and then was joined by the Correntino representatives in a cruise up the Rio Catatungo, to Antioquia, where they stayed at Hacienda Sucia, for a private visit of Corriente's biggest coffee plantation.

During the talks, the two presidents, Herrera and Constanza have discussed the importance of developing a sense of unity between Tiburan Occidentian nations, hoping to bring together the Cayabocan nation, the People's State of Gran-Occidentia, the Archipelagic Republic, The United States of Corrientes and even the Mandatory State of Monterrey.

In their meeting at the Santa Marta Palace, presidents Constanza and Herrera have discussed about the importance of the revolutionary origin of the Occidentian nations, all of them being born in the fires of liberal and patriotic revolutions, with the goal of creating more equitable societies where social mobility is given on merit, instead of the traditional aristocratic societies of Gallo-Germania. To further the aspirations of the Occidenal peoples, presidents Herrera and Constanza have agreed to create together a brotherhood of Occidental nations, which is to be named the "hermandad de naciones occidentales", which will defend each other and their interests in face of foreign imperialist aggression while also creating a bridge of cooperation between the nations in case of crises, while also setting up a tempalte for equitable development for all.
At the Hacienda Sucia, after many discussions, the two delegations have come to an agreement, and in a press conference, the two national leaders have formally proclaimed the Herrera-Constanza Doctrine. With this new doctrine defining the foreign policies of the Archipelagic Republic and the United States, the two nations are set to defend the continent of Occidentia from any foreign imperialist and colonialist agenda, stating that any such action, will be a declaration of hostility against the two nations. Presidents Herrera and Constanza have invited the leaders of Gran Occidentia, and the Cayabocan nation to join in enforcing this doctrine.
