A few images from the past. Winter 1978/1979 was the most snowy Winter of the 20th century in the Rheinbund. The northern part of the country was hit by several snow storms. Two times in that winter, massive snow fall led to meters thick layers of snow. Masses of snow that the Tirolsteiners are used to in their mountains, but not the people in the flatlands of the North and Northwest of the Rheinbund. Herewith some pictures.

This picture shows how thick the snow layer was. Such traffic shields are generally 1.8 to 2 meters (roughly 6 to 6.5 feet) above the ground.
