Third Strife Horizon?

Experts Warn of Gridlock if PM Nijimeijer Perishes

National stability rests on the pulse of a 99-year-old patriarch, experts from the Constitutional Policy Forum (CPF) warned in an extensive article this week. The article outlines a fragile web of political alliances, agreements, and pressures that Prime Minister Gerean Nijimeijer or his power base has woven around the Gethsemani Constitutional Conference over the last 30 years.

"Nijimeijer is constitutionally consistent, publicly inoffensive, privately cunning, and indeed irreplaceable even within his own party" CPF lamented. Political heirs within the PM's own party, the Geth. Democratic Union, make up a pitiful minority in parliament and regarded as toothless in what these experts describe as an "individual institution" rather than a political movement.

Nijimeijer initially led a Reformed Geth campaign in the 1970s, however, as the MP and PM to-be consolidated power he embraced a secular public persona as a unifier. But now, as the twilight of the PM's reign appears on the horizon, religiopolitical rivals that exist within Nijimeijer's decades-spanning coalition are calling for "open strife" if necessary to take charge or walk away from the constitutional conference.

When Nijimeijer fell and broke his hip in public last week the potential for inner strife was felt in waves throughout Gethsland. Social media erupted in criticism and jeers immediately, whereas less connected Orthodox Geths spent their daily devotionals praying for the Prime Minister with one breath and prescribing their own replacements and desires for constitutional change with the next.

The CPF warns that neutral constitutional authorities must do everything within their power to clamp down on potentially violent grabs for power in the coming weeks as well as a rash of already dangerous public protests and clashes between domestic radicals. Further, and finally, the CPF approximates that the formation of a new government following Nejimeijer's demise may require "a depth of patience capable of months if not a quarter or more of waiting as representative democracy reacts to the end of an era."

Justice With Borders

Sexual Assault Saga Continues in the Wessgerbarias

In May of 2020, this newspaper reported on allegations of a sexual nature from an anonymous young woman in North Wessgerbaria against Commune Prophet (state leader) Hosea Kuiper. Kuiper's authorized internet agents* quickly denied these claims and demanded that the accuser's name be made public with threats to ban this publication in N. Wessgerbaria if the story was not retracted or demands were not met. The Star would soon be banned in the NW Communes when these ultimatums were not granted.

Early last month the accuser was said to have surfaced in neighboring South Wessgerbaria to report to authorities in the Reformed Republic (neighboring state to commune of N. WesG). Without jurisdictional authority in neighboring N. Wes., S. Wes. state police turned the young lady away without further inquiry or advice. Although several states in Gethland maintain mutual assistance and extradition, the North and South states of Wessgerbaria have not made such agreements since the Second Strife (War) in the 1910s.

Determined to continue with her case the alleged victim, who has now been named as Ann-Margo Sonnebeld, she next followed guidance from an assault victims advocacy group by filing an "inter-conference complaint" against the Commune of Wessgerbaria for refusing to hear her local complaint. Note that the substance of Sonnebeld's complaint has only to do with the right to report and be heard within her state and nothing to do with the nature of the alleged crime itself. This is because the InterState Constitutional Conference possesses few actionable criminal charges and none of which apply to crimes of a sexual nature.

Now the two oppositional Wessgerbarian states are using this case as legal, cultural, and political venues to battle out contrasting differences between the two neighbors. The North Wess. are demanding immediate constitutional censure of the Prophet Hosea, a function that has never been applied to non-ministers or justices. Meanwhile, the N. Wess. claim that Sonnebeld stands accused of theft from the Prophet Hosea and public slander against him. Without a safe structure of legal agreements between these two states, the onus is now in the legal departments of the constitutional conference to examine and decide upon a crippling controversy.

*Authorized Internet Agents are politicians or propagandists of the N. Wessgerbarian state who are trusted to read and post on the world wide web.

Succession Crisis: Nijimeijer in Critical Condition

Hours after a bizarre television appearance on GBC Prime Minister Gerean Nijimeijer returned to hospital in Gethylstad with complaints of hip and arm pain. The 99-year-old P.M. was captured in photographs with eyes closed and mouth open outside Ambrose Memorial Hospital early Wednesday morning amid attempts to disperse media. The Prime Minister's Public Secretary, Miriam Schumacher, addressed the press later in the afternoon with adamant insistence that "the Prime Minister is in ideal condition and attending routine re-checks after his unfortunate accident".

And while calls for prayer ring out across Gethland, as the Prime Minister returns to hospital for the second time within a week, for the first time now candidates for succession are presenting themselves in media despite the Nijimeijer administration's insistence on the Prime Minister's "robust and continuous health". Furthermore, in reaction to Nijimeijer's apparent incapacitation, 6 overly cautious Gethsemani states have mobilized their home guard forces in anticipation of potential unrest.

"I plan to write Gethsland's next chapter with by marking a capital U for unity," M.P. Hanno Ryskamp told the Star outside of Constitutional Conference Quarters in Gethylstad before the steps and streets outside of CCQ were swarmed by an unruly mix of protesters. As this article is being pushed out we have journalists on the ground that have observed injured citizens bleeding out as ambulances fail to wade through the rabble. Some ministers have been pictured and videoed online leading mobs with bullhorns and encircled within horse drawn buggies of armed Orthodox Geths.

Capitol Police in Gethylstad have called upon neighboring states to respond to the crisis, however none so far have responded out of fear of rhyming riots within their own localities or paranoia that neighboring states might use this window of chaos to press gains against each other. The embattled Prophet & President from N. Wessgerbaria, Hosea, went so far as to condemn "Nijimeijer and Gethylstad to the same devastation that Sodom and Gomorrah brought upon themselves!".

The Gethylstad Star will continue to observe capitol protests and relay updates concerning the Prime Minister's health from Ambrose Memorial Hospital as information becomes available.
