Gallego: "40 years since the end of the Junta. 40 years of democracy and freedom"

You must be registered to see images.
The 2nd of December celebrates the return of constitutionalism and democracy in Ebria, as it is the day in which the Cortes Generales has returned to normal functioning after about 20 years of vacancy during the two military juntas called the 1st and 2nd Phase of the Revolutionary Armed Forces Government. The day is the traditional day of the State of the Realm Speech, which is traditionally held by the President of the Government, in front of the joint houses of the Cortes Generales.

Ana Isabel Gallego, the president of government and the leader of the Radical Party has held the traditional speech whose themes have been this year about reflection, the importance of understanding civic duty and the struggle to keep the light of democracy and anti-corruption alive.

The speech comes as part of a generalised wave of nostalgia after the 1st Phase of the Revolutionary Armed Forces Government, known popularly as the Gutierrez Junta, which proclaimed the 15 year long Ebrian Republic but brought intense fears that the nation will be led unto the path of totalitarian left wing populism. The disaster of the Republic has been followed by the 2nd Phase of the RAFG, led by the even worse Camp Navarro, which became ultra-conservative and royalist, bringing forth stagflation, war and generalised poverty.

"We as a people must be thankful. Since 1812, our nation has functioned as a modern constitutional monarchy and has built a tradition of respecting human right, offering freedom of speech and press and the most important, free and fair elections. The Great War has showed that when a rift forms between the political class and the population, populism rises and that brings no real solution to the aspirations and issues of the people, but rather, presents short term disastrous solutions as the universal panacea. It is the duty of all politicians of this country not to repeat what has happened in the 1950s. It is our duty to remain connected to the will of the people and to listen to the voice of the people.

To the press and citizens, I will say the following: We must look back and understand that the nation has risen a lot. The economical crisis of the 1980s and the last war with Josefánia has been the perigee of the development of this nation. Since 1985, four decades have passed. Our economy nearly tripled since then. The quality of life is the highest it has been in our history. Even so, I understand the disappointment people have, for many see we could have been much higher than we are now, if the political class cared more of their voters than their clients. For this, I condemn again and again the National Front, which has dominated so much the national politics especially in the last decade.

Our goal is to be realistic in understanding the world, be thankful of the sacrifices the previous generations did to secure our current present, do the same for the future and the next generations, and to conclude, stay the course! Stay the course to defend our democracy and our prosperity!" stated President Ana Isabel Gallego.

The state of the realm address has been broadcast live by RTE, Radio-Television Ebriana, and was followed by record breaking audience, both in mainland Ebria but also in Natalia and Rio de Oro.

ENAI, a success story changing the economic paradigm

The political success of the Partido Radical in the elections in 2020 have been attributed to the promises of offering impulses to local industries and manufacturing sectors of the economy, reviving the steel production around Sahagún, and also return the traditional voice the trade unions had for the blue collar workers and the encourage them in the white collar working class too. Presented by the Partido Cartista as retrograde populism, and by the Partido Restaurador as progressive neo-communist nonsense, the voice of the classical two parties which has dominated Ebrian politics for the whole past century has slipped into minority as the Radicals have not only broken the mould and got enough seats to form a coalition with the Chartists, but four years later, they returned with an ever stronger presence in the Cortes Generales.

The main vector of change in the way manufacturing was seen in the nation was the creation of ENAI, the Empresa Nacional de Inversiones (National Investment Company), through which the government invested 5 billion Reales in the first Radical administration and at the moment, one year within the second, already 2.5 billion were added to it. ENAI tied to realm wide campaign, covering not only Ebria, but Rio de Oro and Natal too, in which companies, start ups and entrepreneurs can gain low-interest credits to build their companies. They also receive a tax amnesties for up to three years depending how much the company grows and how many people it employs.

The program offered an impulse to the growth of the economy, with the National and Royal Bank stating that the economic growth for 2025 stands and 3.2%, and without the program it would have stood at 1.2%. Many in the government have called it a success, especially as President Ana Isabel Gallego has visited the Garrido Rubio steel mill, the largest in Ebria, which shut its doors in 2005, and will return to operation in 2026, thanks to investments from the ENAI.

Critics on the new policy of state interventionism in the economy have called it a manipulation of the market by a polity too big to fail, the government, which will actually lead to a short term bonanza and a very long term economic collapse. Even so, when asked by the polling agencies, on average, around 68% of the people stated that the state should intervene more to regulate the market, showing that the Ebrian people are turning their backs on the neoliberalism of the 1990s and 2000s, and more of a returned to state investments especially in energy, transport and heavy industry, not through direct micromanaging, but rather through sponsoring private investors and regulating the market.

"It is a recipe for success. It shows that the economical paradigm needs to be shuffled from time to time when it reaches the the end of its life, so that we don't enter systemic crises. Up until now, have functioned for 30 years through a laissez faire system that did its best to keep debt low too, leading to reduced growth compared to other great democracies of Middle Europe, but in the past five years, we are seeing a construction boom. In the 1990s, we had only the high speer railways connecting Valls to Amerida, and to Ranero as grand national projects. Today, we see buildings sites everywhere, as ports are getting expanded, infrastructure is renewed, energy production expanded, new companies spawning and employment reaching record levels. I for one see it as a success and I will want to see Ebrians paying some of the lowest prices in electricity productions in the future," stated President Ana Isabel Gallego.

There is criticism of the program too, as it opened the way to increased deficit, as the first bill proposed by the Radical Party back in 2020 was to bring to an end the Deficit Break decided upon back in 1999. At the moment, the government reported a 5% deficit, compared to 4.1% last year. Even so, there is hope that should the growth continue, the situation will ameliorate. There were voices in the government who already stated that after important infrastructure projects are sorted, the funds going through the ENAI should be reduced to reach a 3% deficit. Opposition party members of the Cortes have also called for increased audits on the destination of the funds given to the ENAI credits, to ensure the respect of the state of law, and that any corruption, influence trafficking or power abuses could be dealt upon.

Five dead and 90 injured after high-speed train derails between Sahagún and Valls

A high-speed train operating on the busy Sahagún-Valls corridor derailed early this morning shortly after passing the small town of Calzada, unleashing one of the most serious railway emergencies in recent years in the Federal Republic. The train, which departed Sahagún shortly after 7:30 a.m. carrying commuters, business travellers, and families, was bound for the capital when several of its rear carriages left the tracks on a rural stretch of line surrounded by open farmland and woodland.

According to preliminary official figures released by the Ministry of Transport, five people have been confirmed dead and approximately 90 others injured, several of them in critical condition. Emergency services arrived within minutes of the derailment, which occurred shortly before 8:15 a.m., and began evacuating passengers from damaged carriages. Survivors described scenes of confusion and panic as smoke reportedly filled part of the train. Multiple witnesses stated that they heard what they described as “a loud explosion” coming from the restaurant car seconds before the train began to shake violently and derail.

The central government swiftly activated the Red Intervention Plan, a national emergency protocol designed to coordinate large-scale crisis response. Under the plan, emergency medical units from across the Community of North Trastámara were deployed, including fire brigades, civil protection teams, and medical helicopters. Reinforcements were dispatched from Valls and Amérida as hospitals in Sahagún, Valls, and Amérida entered a state of maximum alert. Health authorities confirmed that surgical teams had been placed on standby and that additional blood supplies were being mobilized as a precaution.

The Guardia Civil has cordoned off the accident site and initiated a full investigation in coordination with national security and transport safety agencies. While officials have cautioned against speculation, early reports indicate that investigators are examining evidence suggesting a possible explosion in the restaurant coach. Authorities have not confirmed the cause of the blast, and no group has claimed responsibility. At this stage, investigators have stated that no hypothesis has been ruled out, including mechanical failure, accidental explosion, or a deliberate act.

The Prime Minister is expected to address the nation later this afternoon from the Sotelo Palace in Valls to provide further updates and to outline the government’s response. Political leaders, both from the government and opposition, have expressed condolences to the victims and their families, as authorities have urged citizens to avoid spreading unverified information on social media and to rely exclusively on official communications as the investigation progresses.

"It is a tragedy and a disaster for out nation and our people. We will stand together and we will respond to ensure that the bereaved will be cared of by the state and its institutions. As I receive new reports, we cannot simply close our eyes towards potentally malevolent acts that have led to this or sabotage, for the investigation is slowly moving farther away from the initial supposition of a catastrophic electrical failure and more towards the explosion of an improvised device. Whomever stood behind this, will pay and the state and the Republic will stand by its people in bringing those monsters to justice," stated President Ana Isabel Gallego, who interrupted her meeting with the Presidents of Natal, Corrientes and Rio de Oro, to hold a press conference

Rail traffic along the Northern Line has been suspended while technical teams assess the condition of the infrastructure. Transport officials have indicated that a full safety review of the corridor will be conducted in the coming days.

Ebria's Premiere Culture Magazine - Averinish Version - Since 1975 - 1st of March 2026

The Movida Vallena is back. Prepare for a cultural revolution
  • How a movie premiere influenced a whole generation
  • Nostalgia broke the fear for the future, creating something totally new
  • The new Movida is bringing a new face to the image of Ebrian culture
You must be registered to see images.
The premiere of the new Cristiano Botero movie, "Un ocaso en los 60", a Sunset in the 60s has taken the Ebrian society by storm. Seen as one as the most popular movies that have released in this decade by the Ebrian cinematography, Un ocaso on los 60, or in its Averinish version, a Sunset in the 60s, tells the stories of a few friends that come together in an apartment to talk, drink and smoke some weed. As their evening goes on, the watcher finds out more and more about their personal histories, aspirations and political ideals, under the magic of a late 1960s and early 1970s soundtrack that dominates the movie as they listen to music in the background. The movie ends not with a great revolution that they always waited for with so much passion, but with the sun setting and the night beginning, showing how much of their idealism is just being smothered by their daily rutines.

Created as a social critique, by Cristiano Botero, the movie has been seen by more than 5 million Ebrians in this premiere weekend, and with 10 more million people in its first week in the cinemas. Some of the critiques has responded to this reaction, stating that the movie doesn't offer anything special, and at time just draws on and on and is quite boring in its exercise of showing how useless teenage and young adult angst just turns into daily rutine as the characters mature, but it seems that many of the Ebrians have responded against this, showing that the intimate meeting, fuelled by alcohol, cannabis, hope in the future and good music must return and become again a normal setting as it was during the times the movie was set in, in the middle of the Movida Vallena.

The sense of nostalgia permeates through the movie and the setting, for in the late 1960s, the young generation of Ebrians, be them from the mainland, Oreños or Natalians, were moving to the big cities, like Amerida, Valls and Sahagun. This concentration of the youth has proven to be problematic for the conservative cultural mainstream, leading to an explosion and a new cultural revolution, which in the end is called La Movida Vallena (The Valls Movement) or La Movida de los 60 (The Movement of the 60s), completely modernising the music and cinematographic scene with new sounds and subjects and pushing the prudish old world culture in the back.

Today, the new generation feels that it rediscovers the old Movida, as in the aftermath of the premiere of Un ocaso en los 60, streaming platforms have reported in just a week a spike for 1960s and 1970s hits, with many old garage rock bands that haven't seen the light for the sun in decades rising today to becoming no.1 hits, pushing back what can be described as contemporary music.

Our reporters have analysed this newly discovered interest and did observe a rise in the attraction to everything late 60s and early 70s, from music to hippie stiles and ideals. It is now a game of waiting to see if we can expect a new movida or it is just a weird cultural episode and a fascination solely fuelled by the movie's popularity. Our belief and hope at the moment is that we are seeing a new Movida, be with the rediscovering of the music styles from many decades ago, and we expect incoming cultural products inspired by it. We invite all zoomers of Ebria to partake for they will write history in what can be an episode of self-discovery, in turning their back from the consumer filled modern day and enjoy culture for the sake of culture, friends for the sake of friends and try to build a better world, as the old hippies did back in the 1960s.

Tens of thousands march and protest in Rio de Oro

You must be registered to see images.
The announcement of the existence of the terrorist group has taken many by surprise within the State of Rio de Oro, especially in the Christian coastal regions, areas of political domination of the National Oreño Party of the incumbent President of Government, Umar Ghali, and where many Ebrians are living.

Local representatives of the NOP have organised a pro-government and pro-Realm march, with more than 10,000, up to 15,000 people participating in it, and condemning the terrorist attack in Ebria and the instability in Rio de Oro. In parallel to this, in Villa Cisneros, the northern town, people took to the streets there, to protest against the current status of Rio de Oro and to call for so-called total independence. Some of them even waved the blue-yellow-green tricolour associated with Oreño nationalism and pro-independence groups in the 1950s, and which has been deemed illegal from the 1950s to the 1990s.

The internal tensions within the nation, between the settled coastal Christians and the interior, more pastoral Muslim people are running high, especially as the coastal Christians feel more Ebrian and are closer to the Ebrian mainland, while calls for total independence, against the devolved dominion which has been created in 1970, comes from the interior, which has always felt snubbed by the authorities in El Aaiun.

President of the Government Umar Ghali has announced at the moment that the new organisation, the National Liberation Movement of Rio de Oro, is seen as a terrorist organisation and its goals are rejected by the government and the people, for Rio de Oro is a peaceful and independent nation, associated to Ebria only through the Crown and through a series of free trade, free migration and common defence clauses, which were defined by the 1970 Status of Moncloa Decree signed by the Ebrian government, which redefined Natal and Rio de Oro not as colonies but as sovereign dominions and states associated to Ebria, making them the freest of such states in Himyar.

"Our goal is not to redefine a relations with a faraway metropolis, for in the end, we here government first and foremost for the sake of the Oreño people not for Ebrians and others, like how their propaganda says. There is no need to change what is not broken, and yet, it seems that some morally bankrupt politicians are trying their best to burn down society, lying not only to themselves, but to the people too, that they can provide an utopia from the ashes. To them I can only say this: the ashes won't generate a new society and what society is created through ashes, it will be much worse than what was before. There is no reason to take up the gun when you have the democracy and the Cortes in which you can do it, in a civilised manner, if you can win the necessary legitimacy through the will of the people," stated Presidend Umar Ghali.

The National Army of Rio de Oro has been put on high alert, as they expect a series of attacks from the new group, especially as a leak from the Ministry of Defence mentioned a report from the Ebrian intelligence services, stating that they see the attack on the train only as a distraction, with an incoming large attack in Rio de Oro designed to take by surprise and overwhelm the authorities. Many Ebrians have started buying plane tickets to return to Valls or go to Natal, in expectance of significant disruptions.
