My darling Marie:

I am excited to deliver the news of my current venture. It appears there have been positive responses so far. In Villesen, His Royal Highness The Duke de Brabonais has offered four members of his family. I have instructed the Ambassadress-Consort, Madame de Vexin, to give me an inquiry into these princes. Of them, she finds Prince Philippe to be most kind and tender-hearted. However, she states, it is the Prince Nicolas who is most serious in his duties, albeit minimal since their country is a Republic. Two other relations of that House of Athene carry titles in their own country. The Duke de Couserans, Prince Henri, is said to be tall and handsome, applauded as an athlete. Madame de Vexin believes him to be quite charming, though his eyes are often found on one after the other. The Prince Pierre-Auguste, Earl de Bilbenois, is the least interesting according to de Vexin. He is very bookish and plain - suitable for a queen regnant, but not suitable for my granddaughter.

Your Majesty’s Ambassador in Tivoli received a letter from the Emperor himself! Such a marriage is more beneficial to your person as equally as to your nation. His youngest son Prince Louis is only a year older than Your Majesty. He is quite the ideal Prince. Mssr. de Talleyrand has inspected the Prince personally. Well-educated, confident and athletic, His Royal Highness had the famous Adoe Burccina as one of his tutors. And the Prince’s mother Mariana is a darling, charming and beautiful woman. Of course, not as darling, charming and beautiful as my dear Marie.
