The election had been tight. Sichaeus Notus was the leader of the Messalian "Kómma Enótitas" the Unity Party. He sat at his desk watching the vote count on his phone. As the results for Crima rolled in he thought back to a conversation he had had a month ago with the newly elected senator of Crima; Paris Sevastós. She had been running for Igétis, just as he was. At the time they had sat down to negotiate; and what a fruitful negotiation it had been. The two parties had unified; her Conservative Union and his Symmachian Party. He had had to give some ground to her more conservative tendencies. Such as promising not to protect the Hindus and obviously giving her the senatorship. But in exchange they were able to focus on tearing down the incumbent. Nico Aetos, leader of Messalia Forward. A Liberal party with dreams of self sufficency from the Symmachia.

52 to 46, two percent eaten up by random independents. By the next morning it was official. Sichaeus Notus was going to be the Igétis. The accusations of election impropriety started immediately. But those issues could be handled later.

The inauguration was a rainy day. An event of a moderate amount of pomp and circumstance made Mr. Notus officially Igétis Notus. The Rod of The Wanax was handed to him by his predecessor. Mr. Aetos; who seemed to be doing his best to keep his people as respectful and orderly as possible, despite the lawsuits.

After the event a short speech was in order. In a form of rally in the Theatre of Return; the oldest greek building still standing in Messalia. Notus said the following.
"We stand here today in a building build by the Symmachia. One they built before they left their children and wives here and departed to reclaim their homeland. As much as Helios, or Minaos are the homeland to the league, Messalia will always be her refuge. We are where they fled when there was nowhere left to go. The Symmachia may be different now than it was all those years ago, but so are we. And so I think, no I know it is finally time that we join the federation proper. This decision will protect our shores and revitalize our shipyards. It will offer our children opportunities denied to them up to now. Please raise a hand if you can, raise a hand for Messalia's future! Raise a hand for our children and our soldiers! Raise a hand for a Symmachia unified again!

Igétis Sichaeus sat before his his assembled cabinet. They had been arguing for an hour about how to go about organizing the referendum and how Messalia would integraate into the federation. Senator Sevastós had avoided commenting until now, allowing her conservatives to get cold feet as she made no statement personally. They; it seemed, had only been interested in sinking the liberals. And didn't really feel like hooking their political fortunes to the referendum. When the arguing lulled from pure exhaustion Sevastós took the opportunity to make her proposition. "Lets send an ambassador to nail out a plan for how integration would work; then bring it to the people."

Sichaeus groaned, "Then the interest and fervour will have decended from where it is right now, it may leave us in a room full of bureaucrats as our opportunity passes us by."

Sevastós shrugged, "Make it a good deal and that won't matter."

Unfortunately for the Igétis she was his kingmaker, but he could work with that plan. He just needed a good negotiator and something to ensure that the senator from Crima couldn't sink the deal. And he had thought of a way to skewer those birds onto a single spit. It would just take some maneuvering.
