Eiffelland prepares for New Year's Eve

There are several ways to celebrate New Year. Also in Eiffelland. Fireworks are forbidden in the mountains in the South because of avalance danger; there a cascade of skiers ski down the mountains with torches, or drone shows are organised. The big cities outside the mountainous areas organise fireworks shows. But there is also another typical Eiffellandian tradition: Carbide shooting.
The principle is simple. When water is added to carbide, an explosive gas is formed. When this happens in for instance a milk can closed with a lid or a ball, an enormous blast is produced when the gas is ignited. Normally this happens by igniting the gas flowing out of a small hole in the milk can, but a group of informatics students introduced Carbide Shooting 2.0. An electronic device is connected to the milk can by means of two electrodes. This device generates an electric current through the electrodes and ignites the carbide gas. The device is controlled by means of an app on a mobile phone. It remains to be seen whether this system will be adopted by more groups, but advanced it is.

Tarusa stops delivering natural gas to Ostmark; Eiffelland steps in

Earlier today it became known that the Tarusan state-owned natural gas company Lianozov will stop delivering natural gas to Ostmark. A spokesperson of Lianozov indicated that the delivery will be resumed until either full payment would be received and a new contract would have been closed, or when another kind of agreement would be reached. Shortly afterwards, it became clear what that other kind of agreement would look like: The release of Generalfeldmarschall von Wilhelmstadt and the cessation of the destruction of the archives of the Ministerium für Staatssicherheit.
A spokesperson of the Tsar indicated that the transition to democracy in itself would not be the in the focus of this action; instead, the government of Tarusa would be focussing on the person who leads the transition: Interim-Volkskanzler Bohmer. He was Vice-Chancellor under Volkskanzler Grasser, and with that a prominent figure during the national-syndicalist government. The problem that government of Tarusa sees in the destruction of the archives of the Ministerium für Staatssicherheit, is that evidence of crimes committed by important persons in the national-syndicalist government will be destructed as well, and that people who were watched by the Ministerium für Staatssicherheit will never get certainty about what this secret service was looking for, what it actually found, and what it used as basis for prosecuting against people.
The Eiffellandian government was unofficially not happy with the violations of human rights in Ostmark (as could be heard from unofficial statements by anonymous government officials), but always maintained the relations with the national-syndicalist government, and never officially commented on the violations of human rights in Ostmark (a decision that emerged from the official policy to not interfere with other countries' internal politics).
Also at this moment, the Eiffellandian government is silent about the human rights violations in Ostmark, and Interim-Volkskanzler Bohmers role in that. It is also silent about the destruction of the archives of the Ministerium für Staatssicherheit. Unofficial sources indicate that the government is in dubio about the destruction of the archives of the Ministerium für Staatssicherheit. It sees the objections against it phrased by the government of Tarusa, but it also looks at the other side of the problem. The Ministerium für Staatssicherheit not only collected information on people's political deeds (like criticising the government), but also many other things. Things that can make people blackmailable also in a democratic system. Extramarital affairs, homosexuals who didn't come out for whichever reason, transvestites, people with extraordinary sexual preferences like sadomasochism or strange fetishes, and many other things. This kind of information makes the archives of the Ministerium für Staatssicherheit toxic for the victims as well. Therefore, the Eiffellandian government considers the destruction of the archives of the Ministerium für Staatssicherheit defendable.
A speech by Interim-Volkskanzler Bohmer made clear that Ostmark will not follow the demands by the government of Tarusa. Minister Dr. Schmelzer called upon the government of Tarusa to reconsider its decision to stop delivering natural gas to Ostmark, and indicated that this action by the government of Tarusa, albeit focussed on Interim-Volkskanzler Bohmer alone, has the potential to destroy the transition to democracy as a whole. A formal condemnation was not phrased.
Chancellor Rheinfeld indicated separately from Dr. Schmelzer that the government would see it as "our duty to let this transition proceed with as few bumps as possible". He ordered to have the natural gas pipelines to Ostmark checked and made ready for covering the natural gas needs of Ostmark, and ordered the construction of an installation in one of Ostmark's seaport where natural gas tankers can unload natural gas. He indicated that Eiffelland can deliver enough gas to Ostmark to bring the houses at 10 degrees celsius permanently: "That is still not a comfortable temperature, but at least it will not be freezing inside the houses." He also called upon nations to send in natural gas by means of tankers. Meanwhile, the checking of the gas pipelines is ongoing. When everything is working well, Eiffelland can start delivering gas to Ostmark from midnight between 29 and 30 December onwards.
It is remarkable that the government is currently stepping in in what is normally considered an internal matter. This can be explained based on the philosophy regarding the spread of democracy that the Auswärtiges Amt follows: Imposing democracy upon a country whose population does not demand for it is counterproductive; introducing democracy can only work when the population wants it. During the period that Volkskanzler Grasser was alive, there was no momentum for a change to democracy; therefore, Eiffelland remained silent. Now that the momentum is there, Eiffelland steps in. Le Pays d'Eiffel recula pour mieux sauter.

Apostolikes Kunungasrikases Walhandbátin /// Apostolic Kingdom's Foreign Ministry

The joy with which this office received the news of the fall of the Grasser regime can never be understated, and the Apostolic Kingdom has and will continue to support the people and legitimate government of Ostmark in the process of fortifying the democratic institutions of their nation. In their hour of need, Eiffelland has stepped forward to ensure that want for one of modern life's basic necessities does not become a hindrance to this process, for which we commend and salute you.

Furthermore, this government wishes to pledge our own material support to this cause, to ensure that the people of Ostmark are free from worry over how they will able to heat their homes throughout the coming winter. To this end, His Apostolic Majesty's Department of Energy has authorized the release of certain quantities of the national reserve, and will be further coordinating with Eiffelland to ensure the swiftest and most efficient methods for delivery of this natural gas to Ostmark.

Likewise, the cruelty and disregard for civilized conduct at the blackened heart of this chain of events, the original denial of this critical resource, has been well noted. Altaturra will remember this miserable deed, and I pray that the offensive party is compelled to repent from this policy of callous barbarism towards his fellow man, however natural a state that might be for such as these Easterners and their pestiferous Tsar.

As ever, you may count on our continued partnership and regard in all similar matters,

Ortolf T. Bawer,
His Apostolic Majesty's Foreign Minister
Apostolic Kingdom of Vistarika

Eiffelland allows gender changing operations

As per the 1st of February, gender changing operations will be allowed in Eiffelland. The first hospital where this operation is allowed is the Pietas, the university hospital in Trier. A team of internists, surgeons, anaesthesiologists, psychologists and nurses of the Pietas was trained in this kind of operations by a university hospital in the @United Republics during the last five years. It was also in this hospital where gender changing operations on Eiffellandian transgenders were conducted.
It is the intention to let the gender team of the Pietas train gender teams of other university hospitals, so that gender changing operations can be conducted in more hospitals than just in Trier. Initially, the Universitätsklinikum der Robert Koch Universität Weissenfels intended to form a gender team on its own in the same way as the Pietas did (sending a team of people to the United Republics to be trained on gender changing operations), an idea probably born out of the traditional rivalry between the Pietas and the Universitätsklinikum der Robert Koch Universität Weissenfels. However, Prof. Dr. Maximilian Jung, who was Minister of Public Health and Welfare in 2015, decided to overrule this traditional rivalry and only send a team of the Pietas to the United Republics.
Rumours go that the current Minister of Public Health and Welfare, Erwin Waagemann, asked assistance of the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Marina Dahles, famous for her foul-mouthedness, her direct remarks, her habit to never hide what she thinks, her antipathy towards macho behaviour and people with big egos, and her big and heavy handbag, to tell the gender team of the Pietas and the future gender team of the Universitätsklinikum der Robert Koch Universität Weissenfels to be respectful to each other.
Eiffelland underwent quite a lot of changes in the 21st century, also when ignoring the influence of the internet and the smartphone. Homosexual intercourse between two individuals above the age of majority was legalised in 1964 by King Philipp. In 1990s, his eldest son and successor King Heinrich was presented a law setting the age of consent for homosexual and heterosexual intercourse at 16 years of age. But King Heinrich was a different person than King Philipp. King Heinrich was very religious, and while the Church he was a member of became more liberal, he didn't change his views. Although aware of his position as a constitutional monarch, his religious beliefs withheld him from signing the law. The same fate underwent the law legalising gender changes.
Also under the influence of the public opinion, the judicial system started to tolerate homosexual intercourse from 16 years onwards as a reaction to the King not wanting to sign the law putting the age of consent at 16 for homosexual and heterosexual intercourse. This approach was not possible for gender changing operations, however; a gender change is not that easy to hide, and it was legally impossible to change someone's gender in the population administration.
For some reasons, the attention for the law allowing gender changes diminished, while the law legalising homosexual intercourse from age 16 onwards remained under the attention and continued to be presented to the King to be signed. King Heinrich abdicated in 2010. The first law King Albrecht signed was the law legalising homosexual intercourse from 16 years onwards.
But it lasted until 2014 that the law legalising gender changes was put back to the attention. King Albrecht was immediately willing to sign it, but the Cabinet Von Seydewitz III considered it problematic that there was no experience with gender changes in Eiffelland, and therefore was hesitated to allow the gender changing operation itself. The government decided to already recognise gender changes conducted abroad from a legal perspective, i.e. to allow gender changes in the population administration, but to not conduct gender change operations in Eiffelland yet. Instead, cooperation with a university hospital abroad was sought to have a gender team educated there and let that gender team educate more gender teams in Eiffelland. And that was what happened. Eiffellandian patients underwent gender changes in the United Republics, and a team from the Pietas was educated there as well. In the meantime, Eiffelland was in the strange situation that the law was completely positive about gender changes while gender change operations were still forbidden.

Alaaf or Helau? Fastelovend, Carneval or Fasching? Eiffelland celebrates Carnival

Carnival have many names. It is celebrated everywhere in Eiffelland, but nowhere as intensely as in the province Rheinland. From the 11th of the 11th onwards, there are regular Sitzungen, and then the party really goes loose on the Thursday before Ash Wednesday, with the Weiberfastnacht. Wearing costumes, drinking, the Carnival cavalcades, but of course making fun of the leaders of the country, making fun of the leaders of other countries, making fun of the Royal Family, making fun of the Princely Families, making fun of the Royal Families of other countries, the Buuttereeden in which national and international events as well as government decisions are joked about. It is all part of the festivities.
There are two so-called Hochburge of the Rheinlandian carnival: Köln (where it is called Fastelovend, and where the carnival greet is Alaaf) and Mainz (where the carnival greet is Helau). These are the cities which set the trends in the Rheinlandian Carnival.
The rest of Eiffelland calls Carnival Fasching and celebrates it in a less exuberant way: There is a cavalcade on Sunday, and parties on Monday and Tuesday, but less big than in the Rheinland.

Eiffellandian car industry announces release of many electric car models

At this moment, the Eiffellandian car industry delivers three electric car models: The Borschel Jivanta, the Raimer E-Karas and the Darner Levante. This is going to change on the short term, however. Borschel is going to present additional variants of the Jivanta, Raimer and Darner are going to introduce more new models, and EKW is going to introduce electric models as well. Furthermore, all four companies are going to invest in battery factories. Also new battery techniques making the cars charge faster and the batteries last longer are on their way, as well as investments in a large scale charge infrastructure. Another development is started as well: Raimer and Magirus-Deutz are going to develop hydrogen-based propulsion further for their trucks. Raimer already markets the H-Karas, a car on hydrogen. The experience gained through this model will be used in the development of hydrogen-trucks.

Vaccine fight

Eiffelland is a country that puts a high emphasis on disease prevention. Vaccinations are a large part of that strategy. Eiffelland has a national vaccination plan. It is registered from everyone who received which vaccinations. Parents are summoned at certain moments in their children's lives to have them vaccinated, and everyone is summoned once every ten years to get a booster of the tetanus vaccine. Also special in Eiffelland is that the cowpox vaccine is still given to keep immunity against smallpox, despite the fact that this disease has been eliminated from the world.
But there is a leak in the system. There are about 2 million members of very conservative church communities who refuse vaccines for religious reasons. On top of that, more and more people refuse vaccines because they consider them dangerous. One of the triggers of that movement is a claim by a Westernessian physician that the measles vaccine would cause autism. Meanwhile, a large study conducted by the Staatsuniversität Aachen among 600,000 people falsified this claim, and the physician who put this claim forward lost his licence, but the rumour is still persistent.
Minister of Public Health and Welfare Waagemann recently proposed a bill to make the vaccination campaign compulsory for children under age 18. He said about it: "It is one thing that adults refuse to have themselves vaccinated, but when parents refusing to have their children vaccinated expose their children to severe illnesses without giving them a say in this. Without the children's consent, these parents expose their children to severe diseases. And not only their own children, also the people who can't be vaccinated due to medical reasons. How would it be if a baby dies of measles before he or she could receive the first vaccination because the people refusing vaccinations prevent herd immunity from occurring?"
Minister Waagemann's bill will probably be approved by the Reichsparlament this week, but a group of lawyers representing orthodox christian communities and other people refusing vaccines indicated that they would challenge the law before the Verfassungsgericht. Chancellor Rheinfeld already indicated that the government would discuss out other means to enforce vaccinations should the Verfassungsgericht reject Minister Waagemann's bill.

Reichsparlament approves Waagemann-Gesetz; vaccination scheme compulsory from 1 May 2021 onwards

As expected, the Reichsparlament approved the law making vaccinations compulsory today. The law, dubbed the Waagemann-Gesetz, makes it compulsory for parents to have their children vaccinated, and makes it compulsory for unvaccinated adults to have themselves vaccinated. The only exception to the rule is for people who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons. This has to be confirmed by independent medical doctors.
The Waagemann-Gesetz is not undisputed. Several members of parliament, also members of the coalition parties, voice objections against the fact that this law overrules people's self-determination w.r.t. their bodies. Furthermore, Orthodox-Christians indicate that this law violates the freedom of religion of people refusing vaccinations for religious reasons. Waagemann's counterargument is, that refusing vaccinations not only have consequences for the persons themselves, but also for others, and remarked that "an individual's freedom ends where the freedom of another individual begins".
Of course also anti-vaxxers objected against the Waagemann law. During the debate about the law, groups of anti-vaxxers protested in front of parliament.
Immediately after the law was passed, the political leader of the Orthodox-Christian Christlich-Reformatorische Verfassungspartei (CRVP) Bernd Schröder, indicated that he will challenge the law before the Verfassungsgericht. The political leader of the Volksunion, Günther Ziesche, indicated that he would file a complaint as well. Also civil rights movements and the association Impfungseinwand indicated that they would file a complaint at the Verfassungsgericht.

Of course the main topic of today, well, the main topic since the Bajorország army demolished an apartment building because of a terrorist cell in one of the apartments last Thursday , is the delivery of weapons to Bajorország. Last Thursday, there were demonstrations in front of the Eiffellandian demonstrations in Wekerletelep. Yesterday President Hulm of Remion asked the government of Eiffelland in a speech to parliament to stop delivering weapons to Bajorország. Furthermore, the Remian Minister of Foreign Affairs sent a note to Minister Dr. Schmelzer with the same request.
It was expected that the cabinet would need some time to deliberate on this, but now it is 3 o' clock and the Chancellor's weekly press conference still has not started. For the first time since the cabinets Jörgens in the zeroes, a cabinet meeting lasts until deep in the night... And now we get the signal that the press conference is about to start so we switch to the press room in the Chancellery.

Good evening, dear listeners, the press conference is about to start. A visibly tired Chancellor Rheinfeld is entering the room, with sign language interpreter Irma Schleuse behind him. The press conference starts.

Good evening dear attendees, apologies for letting you wait so long, but the topic we had to handle is complex. I will outline why.

The current tensions in Bajorország have the potential to escalate in a regionwide conflict. Minister Dr. Schmelzer has indicated that many times, both in the press and directly to the government of Bajorország. This is something that everybody has to be aware of. This is something that the Eiffellandian government is aware of. This danger of escalation creates the necessity for all concerned governments, also the Eiffellandian government, to carefully consider its decisions.

We have seen terrorist assaults committed by the Zaran Federal Army, the ZFA, terrorist assaults claiming numerous lives and irrepairably damaging the lives of many more people. The only justful reaction to those assaults is a sharp condemnation. The people ordering them, planning them and conducting them have to be brought to justice. Nobody questions that the government of Bajorország wants to do so. Also Eiffelland placed the ZFA on the list of terrorist organisations.

Last Thursday, the Bajorország army demolished a complete apartment building because of a cell of the ZFA in one of the apartments. This made many innocent people homeless, and may have taken the lives of many innocent people as well. Be aware: We are talking about people who were by no means involved in the ZFA and were by no means even aware of the presence of said ZFA cell. We cannot condone that innocent people are punished for crimes they were not aware of, did not commit, and did not plan. We fully understand that the government of Bajorország wants to stop the ZFA, but we strongly condemn that innocent people become the victims of this chase.

Also last Thursday, there was a demonstration in front of the Eiffellandian embassy in Wekerletelep. The demonstrators demanded that we stop delivering weapons to Bajorország until Zara has become independent. For the independence of Zara, if that becomes the result of negotatiations between representants of the Zaran people and the government of Bajorország, we will recognise that independent Zara. However, this matter lies outside the jurisdiction of the Eiffellandian government. We cannot tell the government of Bajorország to grant Zara independence, and we will not do so. Neither will we put pressure on the Bajorország government to grant Zara independence. We will continue to put pressure on the government of Bajorország for a more humane treatment of the Zaran people though, as well as for a peaceful solution to the conflict.

We have to mention that we are still shocked about how fast Bajorország fell into instability during the past months. The current Bajorország is completely different from the Bajorország with which Remion, Vistarika, Serbovia, the Holy Frankish Empire and Eiffelland established the CSEAC earlier this year. We do not want to abandon the idea behind the CSEAC, so we will not suspend the whole treaty.

We currently see that the weapons we delivered to Bajorország are used in a way we cannot agree with. The situation in Bajorország is escalating, and, like I said at the beginning of this press conference, threatening to destabilise the complete region. Apart from the humanitarion situation in Zara, which fills us with much concern, such a destabilisation will have consequences to Eiffelland as well. For the case that a refugee flow will start from Bajorország to Eiffelland, we will set up refugee centres in Southern Eiffelland, in the Fürstentümer Tirol, Würzwald, Ruppertswald and Montpassart. Given the limited room for large refugee facilities in Tirol, which is, as you know, a very mountaineous region, we will organise train transport to take refugees to refugee centres elsewhere in Eiffelland. It is also possible that we spread refugees to other parts of Eiffelland.

At the same time, we want to take the measures we can take to prevent the situation from escalating. We will suspend the delivery of weapons to Bajorország effective immediately. Should Bajorország decide to purchase Eiffellandian naval vessels, we will uphold the delivery of such vessels as well. At the same time, on order to prevent that Bajorország imports weapons from other sources and transports them over Eiffellandian soil, we will start controlling the passage of goods to Bajorország over the border between Eiffelland and Bajorország.

We will restart the delivery of weapons and stop structural controlling the goods flow over our border with Bajorország, when peace negotiations between the government of Bajorország and representants of the Zaran people have resulted in a peace that has the potential to sustain long-term, and that guarantees the human rights and social equality of the Zarans.

This is not an easy decision to us. We have always had good relations with the people of Bajorország, and we wish to care for these relations. However, unfortunately, the current situation presses us to take this decision. We cannot do anything else.

Eiffelland welcomes Remian decision to suspend weapons sales to Bajorország

During this week's press conference, Minister o Foreign Affairs Dr. Schmelzer indicated that the government welcomes the decision by the government of Remion to suspend weapons sales to Bajorország. Minister Dr. Schmelzer, who accompanied Chancellor Rheinfeld during the weekly press conference, also took the opportunity to comment on a possible recognition of Eugenia and Bourdignie. He indicated that the government considered it "too early" to recognise Eugenia and Bourdignie: "We think that the possibilities to solve Bajorország's problems peacefully are not exhausted yet. For a very long time, Bajorország was the school example of a nation that housed multiple ethnicities that lived together peacefully. This changed only recently. The Eiffellandian government still has the confidence that peace talks between the current government of Bajorország, the Zarans and the bourdigniers have a chance to succeed."
On the question whether Eiffelland would recognise Eugenia and Bourdignie, Minister Dr. Schmelzer said: "At this moment, a recognition of Eugenia and Bajorország is not on the table. It is our opinion that Eugenia and Bourdignie can only become independent if that is the result of peace negotiations, although we are prepared to recognise Eugenia and Bourdignie earlier when the situation demands that, for instance when Prime Minister Kovács continues to use military force against civilians."

13:40 Eiffellandian time, this is the Engellish news bulletin.

In response to the decision by the Remian and Eiffellandian air control authorities to divert flights away from the Pannonian airspace, the Natalian flagship airliner Western Himyari Airlines decided to relocate its hub for Gallo-Germanian flights to the Airport Trier-Sperenberg. The management team of the airport indicated that it is delighted with this decision, and that it will heartily welcome Western Himyari Airlines at the airport. Given the current situation in Pannonia necessitating an urgent relocation, the airport will help the employees of Western Himyari Airlines with finding new homes in and around Trier.

The Eiffelandian company Heppendorf, the Trierer university clinic Pietas and the Mandatsuniversität Barqah announced that they jointly developed a a technique to increase the number of hearts that can be used as transplant organ. Up to now, only the hearts of brain dead patients that were still beating could be used as a transplant heart. The invention of Heppendorf, the Pietas and the Mandatsuniversität Barqah is a small machine that makes it possible to also use hearts from deceased patients shortly after they stopped beating. Cardiologist Aseddinn Salmi explained that the heart starts beating again when it is taken out of the patient and then placed into the machine where it is supplied with nutritions and oxygen. He also indicated that the number of available transplant hearts will be doubled thanks to this machine.

The Eiffellandian car industry is going to open a research facility for the development of car batteries. The facility will be located in Trier. The Eiffellandian car industry also launched an initiative to recycle used car batteries.

The government announced that it will stimulate the grounding of chip manufacturing plants in Eiffelland. Weissenfels, Würzwald, Heilbronn and Montpassart are mentioned as locations, but more cities are mentioned as well. Also Barqah and Al-Gharb in Al-Magrab are mentioned.

After messages that foreign paramilitary troops have entered the east of Pannonia, Prime Minister Kovács messaged in a twat that he allowed Tarusan troops to deploy in Pannonia. This has led to unrest in several Pannonian cities, as well as amazement among many Pannonians indicating Tarusa not being a natural partner of Pannonia. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that they are currently studying the situation, but didn't want to comment on it yet.

18:40 Eiffellandian time, this is the Engellish news bulletin.

The Remian air force announced the establishment of a no-fly-zone above Eastern and Western Zara in Southern Pannonia, effective from 12 o'clock Remian Time onwards. The cabinet is currently in a meeting to discuss the rapidly escalating situation in Pannonia. It is unclear whether Eiffelland will step in. A government official was cited saying: "When we step in too early, we will not be the peace-bringers but just the next side in the conflict. In that case, we may be able to calm down the conflict, but only when we send in many soldiers who will have to stay there for a very long time to push the lids on an enormous bunch of boiling pans. The chances are bigger that we will only prolong the conflict. IF we step in, we will step in at a moment that we can end the conflict in such a way that it leads to a lasting peace."

After the Ostmarker airliner Interflug - Air Ostmark indicated that it would divert its flights destined for the self-proclaimed republics of Bourdignie and Eugenia to Kispest, the Eiffellandian air control authority immediately announced that it will not allow passenger flights to Pannonia through the Eiffellandian airspace due to the situation in Pannonia, which is considered dangerous to civil air traffic as well.

Eiffelland recognises separatist countries of Pannonia

In a short press release issued this morning, the Eiffellandian government announced that it recognises Eugenia, Bourdignie, Hohensee, Bécs-Altstadt and the Serbove Satellite Republics as independent republics. Later today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Schmelzer indicated during a press conference that there were arguments for and against such a recognition were considered:

"Recognising separatist movements has a difficult legal component. Strictly speaking, it is illegal to take a part of a country out of the control of its government. And with that also unilaterally declaring independence. Of course there is the argument that every ethnicity has the right to govern itself. This sounds like a good argument, but we have a problem with it, because it can be misused. We have to understand that it is difficult to determine the criteria to base the definition of an ethnicity on, and this is the basis on which the ethnicity argument can be misused. A country can bring a part of a neighbourcountry under its control by thinking up a new ethnicity, grounding a separatist movement, making sure that that separatist movement makes an enormous amount of turmoil, openly supporting that separatist movement, and putting the government of the neighbourcountry under a lot of pressure to grant the desired part of the neighbourcountry independence. Of course the newly independent country becomes a satellite state of the country that supported its independence.
Another scenario is the following. A group of people wants to grab the power in a certain part of a country, for instance to use it as a safe haven for various criminal activities. Then it can also start a separatist movement, make enough turmoil and the rest of the story we know.
These are scenarios that we don't want to see happening in the future. Therefore, we must prevent that such malevolent separatist movements can use arguments arising from the current situation in Pannonia for their cause.
But there can be other arguments to recognise a separatist movement than ethnicity alone. A separatist movement with the sole cause to create a country for its ethnicity can only grow in popularity when the people of the ethnicity are dissatisfied with the current situation, are facing discrimination by the leading ethnicity, do not have the possibility to take part in running the country, or are facing oppression. A separatist movement can only be successful when the people they say to represent massively want independence.
Everybody knows what happened in Pannonia from the moment that former Prime-Minister Csonka resigned. At this moment, Prime-Minister Kovács and his mercenaries are acting in such a way that various groups within Pannonia are doing whatever they can to escape from the Kovács-government. Those groups chose the way of separatism. We had the hope that the central government in Kispest would come to its senses. Therefore, we wanted to wait with recognising the new countries emerging from Pannonia until their independence would result from peace talks. But those peace talks didn't come. Instead, Prime-Minister Kovács hired mercenaries to replace the soldiers who deserted from the Pannonian armed forces.
The issue was discussed in the European Forum. The Pannonian government, represented by Mr. Bonifác Nagy, agreed to decommission the mercenaries to make peace talks possible. But then Prime-Minister Kovács issued a twat in which he said that regular troops from Tarusa and Pelasgia would replace the mercenaries. It could very well be that the Tarusan and Pelasgian mercenaries suddenly became regular troops from Tarusa and Pelasgia. This move can mean only one thing: Prime-Minister Kovács is mainly interested in himself, and not in the Pannonians.
The government of Eiffelland has full understanding for the wish of the Zarans, Bourdignians, Hohenseeers, Serbovians and Pécsers to get rid of the rule of the Kovács government. We consider one argument for recognising the separatist movements of these people, to be precise oppression, fulfilled. Therefore, we recognise the Republic of Eugenia, the Confederacy of Bourdignie, the Republic of Hohensee, Bécs-Altstadt and the Union of Serbove Satellite Republics as independent countries.
Furthermore, in order to prevent Tarusa from supplying the government in Kispest with weapons and ammunition, we bar Tarusan planes from entering the Pannonian airspace, and bar Tarusa to transport cargo to Pannonia over land.
The argument that Prime-Minister Kovács was elected in a democratic way has been voiced in the recent weeks. I want to comment on that as well. In a process that I still don't understand that it could happen in a democracy, Prime-Minister Kovács rose to power based on 32% of the seats in parliament, and remained in power while doing the strangest things. It can happen in a democracy that a minority government raises to power, but a government in a democracy can only govern according to its will when it is backed by an absolute majority of the seats in parliament. It is inunderstandable to me how the National People's Party of Pannonia, the party of former Prime-Minister Csonka, allows a government based on 32% of the seats to destabilise the country in the way Prime-Minister Kovács does. This is not what the voters of the National People's Party wanted to vote for, but this is what the National People's Party allows to happen. I also highly doubt whether this is what the voters of the Christian Social Workers Party and the Justice and Life Party wanted to vote for. I will continue to wonder how the democratic system in Pannonia could derail in such a dramatic manner."

Eiffellandian company CCM develops airconditioning system using water as coolant

The problem of the gases currently used in airconditioning systems is that they are very strong greenhouse gases. Furthermore, because they are very poisonous, only people with special certificates can work with airconditioning systems. Therefore, the Eiffellandian company CCM decided to investigate whether these gases could be replaced with something more environmentally friendly. They ended up with using ... Water.
An old cooling principle stemming from a precursor-country of Pelasgia used porous jars filled with water; the water evaporates out of the jar, and this evaporation process demands heat, coming from the air surrounding the jar. This cooling principle is used in the new cooling system from CCM, but then converted to an advanced cooling system that both cools and ventilates. This system can be manufactured from plastics, and even recycled plastics.

Such a statement was also released with respect to Bourdignie. Meanwhile, the navy has increased its presence in the Gothic Sea, the Germanic Bay and the Ems.
The Eiffellandian government commended the Ostmarker government for recognising Eugenia, Bourdignie, Hohenheim, Bécs-Altstadt and the USSR, and announced that it wants to reactivate the CSEAC and extend it with Ostmark and the countries arising from Pannonia.

It is Prince Ludwig's birthday today. He turns 28 years old. The Prince will celebrate his birthday in the beginning of July, due to his upcoming exams.

Verfassungsgericht judges Waagemann-Gesetz as compliant with the constitution

The Verfassungsgericht announced that it considers the Waagemann-Gesetz, the law making vaccinations compulsory, compliant with the constitution. This means that the complaints by Impfungseinwand, the Volksunion, the Christlich-Reformatorische Verfassungspartei (CRVP) and a couple of individuals have been rejected. Günther Ziesche, the political leader of the Volksunion, called the verdict a "farce", and accused the judges of being prejudiced and incompetent. He also indicated that he would put the abolishment of the vaccination programme in next year's election program. Bernd Schröder, the political leader of the CRVP said that "I regret that the Verfassungsgericht adds its seal of approval to this godless law" and that the CRVP will continue campaigning against the Waagemann-Gesetz.
Minister Waagemann reacted delighted about the news.
Also the Verband gegen die Quacksalberei, an association dedicated to fighting quackery, issued a statement saying that it "greets the decision by the Verfassungsgericht to uphold the Waagemann-Gesetz": "It is a scientifically established fact that the vaccinations that are part of the Eiffellandian vaccination programme protect us against severe infectious diseases. Impfungseinwand misleads the public with its pseudoscientific babbling and jeopardises the lives of infants with it. We issued this gang of medical nitwits the Meister Kackidiris Preis several times, and with reason. We will continue to fight this association with all the means we have."
Also Chancellor Reinfeld reacted delighted, and said: "It is a pity that Mr. Schröder considers vaccinations an unlawful intervention in God's Will, because actually vaccinations are God's Gift to humankind."

About 300 Reichsparlament members request emergency debate

It is a Saturday today, but despite that a group of 300 Reichsparlament members called the chairman of the Reichsparlament to request an emergency debate about the situation in Pannonia. This debate will take place coming Tuesday due to pressing obligations of the Government. The group requesting this emergency debate is basically an opportunity coalition of the Volksunion, Grün, the CRVP and strange enough members of two coalition parties: The SPE and the LDP. To be precise so many MPs that the coalition is about to lose its majority or even gets a motion of distrust so close before a possible war. A spokesperson of the Chancellery said that the Chancellor 'regrets that so many members of the DPE and the LDP decided to switch to the other side". Upon a question what this would mean for the coalition, the spokesperson said: "We don't know yet. Let's focus on coming Tuesday; then we know more about the consequences."

Cabinet looses majority in Reichsparlament after 92 MPs break away from coalition parties

The emergency debate is still going on in the Reichsparlament, but it is already clear that the Cabinet has lost its majority. A total of 92 parliament members broke away from the Sociodemocratic SPE/PSE and the social-liberal LDP/PLD. As a result, the Cabinet's majority of 577 seats in the 1000 seats Reichsparlament shrinked to a 485 seats minority. The MPs who broke away from the SPE/PSE and the LDP/PLD mentioned the Cabinet's handling of the Pannonian crisis as the reason for their move. Manuela Hagemann-Faber, former member of the LDP, has been chosen as their spokesperson. She indicated during the debate: "Actually, the only thing the Cabinet did right, was stopping the delivery of tanks, other ams and ammunition to the government of Pannonia. But after that, no other attempt to stop the violence was made. Instead, the Cabinet foresees Bourdignie with weapons and even sends troops there, and even risks a major war with the PRR and Tarusa." This critique was shared by the Environmentalists, the Syndicalists and the Communists.
Günther Ziesche, the political leader of the far right VU/UP, who is a known supporter of the Pannonian Prime-Minister Kovács said during the debate: "The Cabinet-Rheinfeld actively stimulates the splittering of a sovereign country and fights a legally and democraticly chosen Prime-Minister. Why? Because Rheinfeld does not agree with Prime-Minister Kovács's policies. Bad luck: The man has been chosen by the people of Pannonia and obtained the Prime-Ministry by means of a democraticly legal procedure. We didn't have the right to intervene, and Kovács has all the right to act against the separatists in whichever way he chooses."
Chancellor Rheinfeld replied in the following way: "It is not correct that we didn't do anything to stop the violence. Actually, we repeatedly asked Prime-Minister Kovács to come to the negotiation table. He refused. Instead, he became even more fierce. Prime-Minister Kovács was, and is, not willing to close a peace deal. The only way to prevent him from doing more harm is to reinforce the newly emerged countries. That included recognising these countries. A move we waited with, exactly out of respect for Pannonia's sovereignty. The reason why we decided to recognise the countries emerging from Pannonia is that at a certain moment preventing more atrocities became more important than Pannonia's sovereignty. Prime-Minister Kovács has forfeited the sovereign rights of Pannonia over Bourdignie and Eugenia."
The political leader of the Environmentalists, Franziska Trittin, was critical about the fact that the Government did not block Georg von Heidemar-Fulda from becoming Grand-Duke of Bécs-Altstadt; "Georg von Heidemar-Fulda is related to the King. What kind of signal does this give to the world?" Chancellor Rheinfeld replied to this: "The family relation between the King and Georg von Heidemar-Fulda goes back to the 18th century. But apart from that, he is formally not part of the Royal House, so he is free to make his choices."
Meanwhile, a motion of distrust against the whole Cabinet has been put on the table by the 92 breakaway MPs, the Environmentalists, the Communists, the Syndicalists and the VU/UP. It remains to be seen whether these motions will pass, also given the fact that the Market Liberals and the two conservative Christian parties did not support it. If the motion of distrust passes, Eiffelland will face a possible war without a government, although it is expected that the King will quickly appoint a temporary extraparliamentary Cabinet without political program.
At this moment, there is a break in the debate, until 02:00. Then the voting about the motion of distrust will start.

OOC: PRR = People's Republic of the Rus. And now that I'm creating abbreviations:
— VRR = Volksrepublik der Rus.
— RPR = République Populaire des Rus. Although it could be that the Gaullists are not happy with that (Rassemblement Pour la République (RPR)).

Motion of distrust fails; new elections in October

The parliament sitting of 15 June 2021 will go into the history books as Eiffelland's longest parliament sitting ever. It started at 14:00 and lasted until 4:30 the next day. The ministers and MPs saw the sun rising when they went home. At 2am, the sitting was reopened. Chancellor Von Seydewitz held his last plea, and then the fraction leaders got the floor. Jacques de Chambéry, the very young fraction leader and political leader of the market liberal party UFD/UDL, came with a surprise: "Esteemed colleagues, this is an important moment in Eiffelland's history. It is possible that a war breaks out in the very near future. Under such circumstances, we have to think in the interest of the country. The interests of our political parties are of secondary importance now. In the interest of the country, we cannot send the government home now. Therefore, the UDL will vote against the motion of distrust. But then we still have the issue that the government has lost the majority. Furthermore, this split in the PSE and the PLD is so drastic, that we have to ask the voters for a new mandate. New elections are needed."
Then De Chambéry presented a motion calling upon the Government to organise new elections on Thursday 7 October 2021. He added that the market liberals will support the government until a new government has been formed after the elections in October.
This led to lengthy discussions. The far right VU/UP demanded elections earlier. This was rejected by the Cabinet as well as the coalition parties and the UFD/UDL, because then the elections would either fall in the middle of the holiday season or have to be organised within two weeks. A date in September was rejected as well, because then the students are in the middle of re-exams and the introduction weeks at the universities.
Shortly after that, a third motion was issued by the two conservative Christian parties. This was a motion of disapproval, disapproving the way the Cabinet handled the Pannonian Crisis. The reason why the conservative Christians introduced this motion was that they indeed did not want to vote the Cabinet out but did want to make clear that they disagreed with the Cabinet's handling of the Pannonian Crisis.
At 4am, the chairman of the parliament stopped the discussions and started the voting. The complete voting process took twenty minutes. The motion of distrust and the motion of disapproval both failed, but the motion to organise new elections in October passed. After the voting, the Chancellor got the floor. He said that the Government would carry the motion to organise new elections out. He also said that he would go to the King later today to discuss the matter.

Government remains missionary with support from market liberals; new elections on Thursday 7 October

The Chancellor, the two Vice-Chancellors and the political leader of the UFD/UDL just left the Royal Palace. They confirmed that the King agreed with the plan for the next three months: New elections will be held on Thursday 7 October, and until then the Cabinet continues to govern with the support of the market liberals. The Cabinet remains missionary until the day of the elections.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Schmelzer announced in a press conference that Eiffelland withdraws its recognition of the Union of Serbove Satellite Republics. He indicated that this decision was taken because the announcement of the Union of Serbove Satellite Republics would not have been meant as a serious attempt to ground an independent state, but rather as a students joke from a couple of Pressburger students. He also indicated that the situation in what the government considers Former Pannonia would have been quite hectic at the moment that the Union of Serbove Satellite Republics was announced. Minister Dr. Schmelzer was less harsh towards the Pressburger students, but he did voice his rejection. "I don't know what the intentions behind this announcement were, but the announcement of a new country as a split off is a serious matter you should not joke about," said Minister Dr. Schmelzer.
During the same conference, Minister Dr. Schmelzer said that the government is investigating whether it should recognise the new Republic of Pojazerná or not.

RRF shows mock-ups of future fighter plane and drone at military show

During a military show held in Köln, the Eiffellandian aircraft manufacturer Raimer und Rathenau Flugzeugwerke (RRF) presented mock-ups of its future fighter plane and drone. The plane and drone are meant to become part of an integrated air-defence system dubbed the Luftverteidigungssystem der Zukunft (LdZ; air-defence system of the future). The LdZ is intended to become an integrated defence system that can perform manned, unmanned and artificial intelligence-steered missions, while communicating with both satellites and ground-based systems. The new fighter plane will be completely stealth. RRF and Rathenau Militärausrüstung are currently cooperating in the development of this system.
