I'm also from the Bay Area, and Yerba Buena is supposed to be kinda similar to California, culturally and maybe geographically if I can get that spot on the map. Re: geography, that miiiiiiight be tricky given I may or may not have that area at least partly under my control (as a Scandinavian monarchic Mexican Empire), but the Texas spot between me and @Sylvania might still be a great place for you to set up shop as a California-esque nation (albeit in Texas-shape for extra trolling)

The topography is kiiiiiiinda sorta set in stone but with a little bit of leeway, and climate isn't SUPER strictly followed here (so long as it's within reason and you're willing to be a little bit flexible).

Essentially, I'm pretty sure most folk here won't lose their minds if you change up the details like that a bit. I certainly won't.

Echoing Josepania, climate can be flexible! I RP a frozen tundra akin to Alaska, but have said that the southwest is more like a colder Pennsylvania than Alaska and blamed ocean currents and mountains, blah blah.

I personally wouldn’t have any issue with a California esque climate in that Texas spot
