They had arrived intermingled with some of the Vympel Group. While the contractors had been absorbed into the ranks of the Pannonian military, these men had simply vanished. They had been taking orders from the Imperial Military intelligence in Kispest, until communication became an issue with the seige. All together they were roughly company sized, but to help with disappearing they had broken down into several platoons. With their communications severed from Kispest they had largely remained an inactive force as they waited and watched events unfold. Small minor intelligence missions had been launched and they had monitored communications of friend and foe largely as they awaited.

They would now act as a forward element of several battalions of 98th Guards which had been unloading from two of the ships and organizing the past weeks within the city of Halaszbastya. The situation on the ground had devolved rapidly over large swaths of Pannonia, the military had all but abandoned parts of the country in the North and with situation in Kispest they had moved largely from the South as well, allowing rebels to seize large swaths of land that could very well not be loyal to their cause.

Information of Horvaths goal of re-taking Sankt Viet had reached Lt. Col Valeriy Heletey who was in charge of the detachments of the airborne units deployed in Pannonia. Knowing the condition of the Pannonian army, and the distance it would have to travel would be far greater than his own units. So they would move, the two battalions would advance towards Sankt Viet in their vehicles, they would move at the first sign of darkness. Communications with the Special Operators that had been hidden as parts of the Vympel Group that had been awaiting would give them orders to swing east and begin operations of hit and run with the more mobile platoons, and others would begin acts of sabotage behind the lines of the enemy or commit to direct action as diversionary attacks, as "Pro-Pannonian" militia.

Tarusan boots had unofficially always been on the ground, and those unofficially would remain that way. Those on the other side of issue in Pannonia had already officially crossed the boundary and used military forces deep within the borders of Pannonia. Their actions had paved the way for greater involvement beyond equipping the national army, the detachments officially would be "securing the borders of Pannonia from further intrusion by foreign aggressors", unofficially for the time being they were now launching Operation Salvation, the repelling of rebel forces from the western reaches of Pannonia.

Outside the city

The special forces platoons had varying degrees of success. Those who had been carrying out hit and run attacks on Eugenian forces to the north and east of the city had simply encountered bad luck, one platoon was unfortunate enough to not even so much as find any patrols to attack and another had simply not managed to inflict any true meaningful casualties or disruptions. The diversions to draw Eugenian forces outside of Sankt Viet had failed and would be unfortunate for Lt. Col Heletey who had hoped to draw them into a more open area to use his superior firepower to his advantage without worrying of collateral damage to the city as much.

The true victory behind his movements towards the city had came from the three platoons of special forces who had acted in coordination of of various acts of sabotaging enemy efforts. They had placed explosives along smaller bridges and sections of railway lines, some they already destroyed, a select few they would lay in wait to destroy. They had cut major powerlines and telephone lines that connected Sankt Viet to the rest of the rebellious province.

The main force of two Battalions of the 98th Airborne had arrived to the outskirts of the city on the North-East. It had been no secret that they were coming after General Horvaths announced goal of reclaiming the city. Heletey was sure that the defenders would have prepared themselves for the defense of the city, and Urban Operations were always the most difficult to dislodge an enemy force that was prepared, as heavy equipment can only go so far in an urban environment. He would not advance into the city directly at this moment, he would refocus and give a chance for the Pannonians to potentially arrive, or at least be closer to act as a secondary thrust to his attack. Any attacks to be carried out would be small scale on the suburbs or carried out by mortar attacks against positions identified as hostile. Two Special forces platoons would regroup themselves towards the Southern edges of the city.

The men were to be given a slight show with their arrival, as within the hour they could see across the sky the streaks coming from the north of several cruise missiles that had been launched by submarines of the Empire. It was not what many would think of an opening large scale salvo, the number could have been no more than six if they were counting correctly. The target was unknown to them, but as fate would have it it was the dockyards that were the target.

Eugenian Army
The attack came in ways they did not expect. Prior to the attack only mortars had assaulted ZLA positions and destroyed a town. Now there were reports of killings, murders, and now these missiles hit Saint Lucia's harbor. Such weaponry was entirely out of the scope of Eugenia's Army and their non-regulars would not hold up well to such munitions. Army command also did not want to have to engage in fierce combat inside of the city and decided that rather than destroy the city which was of paramount importance to Eugenia, they would withdraw from the city. Over night troops left the city as fast as they could where the order of retreat was swiftly acted upon. The Eugenian forces instead would move backwards towards Eugenia proper where they could set up better defensive positions in towns of smaller importance.

The harbor itself was still serviceable, and that was the most important part. The explosions thankfully did not cause tremendous fires or ignite any thing massively explosive. That helped morale as having missiles hit the city was bad enough. Being helpless to incoming enemy fire was bad enough. The Eugenians debated destroying the harbor further to prevent usage from Pannonian forces, but ultimately felt it wasn't right to destroy their own city. They would work to halt the advance in other ways.

Armed Forces of Remion
For now, the remion armed forces have been on the border with what was once the Republic of Bajorország, now the Republic of Eugenia. One exercise after another, simulations of war and the extraction of civilians from war scenarios. They were usual actions for those men stopped at the border. They hoped that the politicians seated at the European Forum could put an end to their stay there. Too bad that when the officers gave him orders that morning, they weren't the ones to return to base, home, but to advance. Politics had failed to bring peace to the brothers in the north.

The order was given to advance, to cross the border and secure the area, the collaboration of Eugenia's armed forces, until yesterday armed by Tibur, was expected. But the quality of that army could not be taken for granted. The air force would be, like the last few months, the guardian angel of the men on the ground.

98th Airborne Expeditionary Force

The night was interesting, some units had made probing attacks into the suburbs and met with resistance that had gradually faded to almost nothing. Some units received no resistance at all as if the enemy had never been there or left before they came. It was in the middle of the night when the Remion forces acted thru the air. Several of the anti-air systems on the forces vehicles that acted as their mobile protection were destroyed by missiles, some were luck enough to evade destruction thru counter-measures and just pure luck. It wasn't just anti-air units that were struck, several mortar companies were silenced during the night as well, being mobile came at a cost of making oneself noticeable.

This was to be expected, Heletey had expected to eventually have pushed the limits too this point, but it was his job to follow the orders from the powers that be and make the results happen on the ground by any means he could.

As daylight began breaking and reports from units reached command that enemy resistance had ceased or was light, the command staff made the decision. They would take Sankt Viet. The show of force, of superior firepower had won the day. They would not have to level a city to rubble as General Horvath had done weeks before to take a city from hostile forces. This was perhaps one of Heletey's greatest achievements in his long career, and would certainly get him noticed for he had taken a city from hostile forces without air support.

Heleteys convoy entered the city, one that was not welcoming but also not unwelcoming of his forces. The people that remained in the city and were not attempting to flee for safer places seemed like they did not know what to expect of the future. His convoy for the command staff were en-route to the municipal offices where he would establish his new command post. The rest of the forces were to establish security zones and begin assessing the situation in the city to provide relief and security. A company of special forces would move to the south and secure a corridor to Thalgau allowing another avenue of aid into the reclaimed territory and city, as well as allow a corridor of safe passage for those wishing to flee.

For the moment they would not pursue the enemy, he had completed his limited objective and would hold it. It was the politicians turns to do their dirty work, a job Heletey would never desire for himself.

Air Force Base, North Remion.
Air Force Remion

Some men are loading houses onto a high-wing aircraft, one of those used to drop food and ammunition to ground troops.

"Marco, there must be an error on these accompanying documents, I don't remember the presence of our men in San Lucia." said the boy that was driving the forklift. "No mistake, friend" replied his colleague. "These are orders from the Irregular War Bureau, no one knows what those folks over there have in mind. If you read, they are cases of Rum from San Jose and condoms." Afther that, the man opened one of the case his colleague was carrying, and took a bottle for himself. "I don't think they mind if I keep it for later." Both of them burst into loud laughter.

In reality, what the two men could not know is that this plan was designed to affect the morale of Tarusa's soldiers, as well as their sobriety. Hoping that, full of their recent victory, several soldiers would enjoy the gift and get drunk. In the meantime, in the region, the Secret Service of Remion would have infiltrated the population to create partisan bands, to be armed and trained.

Tarusan Headquarters

The sound of hostile fighters in the sky patrolling the region from time to time had become something familiar in the days following the victory but a unique sound as something larger was coming. Intelligence had never stated anything about the enemy having heavy bomber capabilities, and communication to the headquarters quickly became very erratic as officers called for orders on whether to engage the low flying single aircraft or not. They were not expecting airdrops from home, especially over hostile skies, so what was the meaning of this. Soon parachutes were seen opening out as pallets of cargo began falling from the sky. Lt. Col Heletey ordered the cargo seized by the units spread across the city, as its contents were unknown for all he was aware it was weapons to attempt and fuel a resistance of what was left for citizenry in the city.

As the cargo was secured the command staff themselves came to inspect the interesting cargo they had been informed of. Heletey himself wanted to see this as he found it quite hilarious.
"Would you look at this boys! Even the Republic knows its a lost cause fighting us, they're giving us strong enough booze to tolerate sleeping with their women when we finally get there and the protection we need so we don't take anything unwanted home with us!
He took a moment and thought, he grabbed a box for himself to carry back "Hell I am gonna take this, it is a gift after all, I'll take it home with me. Order a pallet to be dispersed to the companies. The men that have some down time can enjoy themselves, the rest we will ration out to the public. Call it a good will gesture from the Tarusan Government."

Skies of Meridian Sea
Operation Sky Train

The logistics behind the sky train were going to put to test the reach of the Imperial Air Force. It had a strike regiment that was part of its operations in southern Thrakia, which for the time being was to be taking a backseat to the more urgent crisis in former Pannonia. The government had attempted to reach out to partners elsewhere to ease the potential strain on crews, but it had been left with little choice having not yet having reached any formal agreement with the City State. Tankers would first make the flight to Thrakia with each tanker having two crews for rotational shifts. From there the tankers would loiter over the Meridian to refuel the strike aircraft of the 16th strike regiment on their ferry trip towards Halaszbastya.

The General Staff had hoped to avoid the need for air assets and had been hoping diplomatic avenues could reach a deal, while preparing the sword while the pen was trying to work. The time for the sword to be put to work was getting closer, the enemy was making its moves and so would the Imperial Forces. Bringing in air support was the first priority, the next would be flying in the remainder of the 98th Guards Division as well. Starting the fight wasn't the goal, but force parity was. If you cannot make peace by the pen, making them think twice about an outright attack by being of an equal strength would.

The Death of Horvath was a difficult pill to swallow amongst the staff of the Expeditionary Force. He had been the closest thing to an end in the conflict as there ever could be, for the time being. The Csengians had captured six men they believed to be responsible for the assassination of the General, as they had not managed to make themselves away from the scene fast enough. It had been believed there was a partisan activity being formed and organized, now the assassination of the Csengian leader proved it to be true, and the threat was something that could not be overlooked now.

Companies had in the hours since the attack been organized to do block sweeps, sealing off entire city blocks and going door to door. The Imperial troops had taken it upon themselves swiftly as the thought the Csengians would potentially be out for blood and the city streets would be covered in Zaran blood was a worry, and an image that they did not want being seen by the world while the government was attempting to make peace. To the media this would be a necessary evil targeting only partisans for the safety of the populace and the city, the reality was, the majority of the Zaran populace that remained in Sankt Viet that did not cooperate with the military was being rounded up and removed from their homes. Those that were found to have weapons, or were believed to be part of a resistance movement were being detained and would be sent to the detention camp in Pressburg, the homes that were vacated or seized would be in turn given to Csengian refugees who had been dislodged from their homes by the Eugenians.

The first evening of detentions had been lucrative so far, out of the blocks that had been searched some they had detained some 163 Zarans whom were believed to be members of the partisan resistance that had been operating within the city or had information, and another 337 that were removed from their homes for "association" with partisans.

Border between Eugenia and area occupied by Tarusan forces

Full European summer, there had been no rain for more than two weeks. Nothing new for the locals or Remion's soldiers, it was normal to have warm summers and mild winters. Some high-ranking officers with their subordinates were discussing the various plans on a map placed in the center of the room. Around them other men proposed to the collection of information were engaged in their work.

"Horvath's death was an interesting twist. We can already see the power struggles within this faction, the entire command line of the Csengians army is in question." One of the senior officers told his colleagues, intent on moving units on the map. "Even though his death is officially attributed to a partisan group in the area, I have a feeling that some politicians in Tibur again wanted to shuffle the deck to see if we had a better hand to play on this round."

While the discussion went on for several minutes about where to improve the defense, move troops or deploy a better anti-tank defense. A communications officer interrupts the group of officers and gives the highest-ranking person a paper from the Ministry of Defense and signed by the Head of State. The man read the document, as he reached the end of the document a slight laugh could be seen appearing on the middle-aged man's face. "Gentlemen, we will move soon, so I expect the best possible preparation of your individual men. Franco Carboni, you will not be able to participate with us, you will be sent to Gonzaga and then north, you will have to set up defenses on the border with Csengian. The presence of tanks enemies is not to be underestimated." The man raised his wrist and adjusted his watch, setting the time x. "24 hours before we cross this line and see what Tarusa's men are made of. When we attack, we will also order the partisan forces to carry out armed resistance against the invader Taruso."

The 52nd Tank Division had been held back by the communist forces on the first night. The city itself was still damaged from just weeks earlier having revolted when Kovacs was killed and the city was taken by General Horvath. They would not be repulsed on the second day. Smoke filled the air from the burning Parliamentary building that had been bombed the night before by a pair of Tarusan jets, the building provided an eerily glow across the night sky as it was burning.

As daylight began to crack little light onto the horizon the sound of the artillery roared to life. The first hour was a consistent shelling of positions that had been identified during the night as enemy positions. As the guns fell silent the first companies began entering the city with the infantry dismounted providing cover for the tanks as they moved from building to building and block to block. When heavy resistance was encountered that was easier to dislodge without worry of collateral damage then sheer firepower was used as the infantry would simply call in artillery which would rain down metal for several minutes upon the area before silencing their guns again.

The process was effective as by the end of the afternoon half of the city had fallen in an overwhelming victory to the division. The river divided the city, with multiple bridge crossings which would be the hardest task yet. The rebels were obviously ill equipped and largely untrained, but it was easy enough to make explosives and just get lucky from time to time. Major General Nikolai Yolkin wanted to go for glory, half of the city was not enough in a single day. He wanted to crush this revolt once and for all so he could turn his attention to the south. "Across the river!" was his orders to his subordinates, and the order went down the chain of command.

As darkness fell the first platoon of infantry with a tank as support tried to cross a bridge on the edge of the city and was met by raking machinegun fire. The tank rolled forward towards the middle of the bridge to provide cover and destroy the enemy position, the main gun roared to life and as it proceeded forward something underneath, buried by the enemy stopped the tank cold in its tracks. The explosive device blew the tracks apart on the tank and the crew scrambled to bail out of the vehicle as the infantry covered them. Crossing the river would prove another point of resistance from the enemy, one that would irritate Yolkin, for he would have to wait another day or more to haven taken the whole city.

Border between Eugenia and area occupied by Tarusan forces

Early morning, still the sun's rays had not hit the roar on the grass, when the unmistakable noise of the artillery and the impact of their shots had interrupted the tranquility of the Eugenian countryside. The artillery, especially the strationary one, was subject to easy fire response from the enemy who could detect the origin of the blows. This time, in order to prevent any possible reaction from the enemy, there was an eye from above, the air force. Thanks to the Federation's intelligence counter-top and aerial surveillance, enemies were engaged with bombs before being able to load the barrel of their artillery pieces.

Once the bombing began, the order was also given to the ground forces to advance. The tanks would lead the way, followed by the mechanized infantry. The soldiers were instructed to be ready for anything, after all Tarus's forces were not to be considered inexperienced, their success in Kispest could not be due to luck alone. In constant radio coordination by the attacking forces and the artillery in the rear, as well as the fundamental air support, we thus avoid being victims of our own friendly fire.

The enemy forces, although well armed, had no way of resisting or capable to stop the advance of Remion and Eugenia. With no possibility of resisting everything in the air, they could only take refuge in the tunnels and trenches dug for defense, but that would have trapped them like rats. In addition, many Csengian soldiers reported that the local people of Zaran origin were happy to point out to the soldiers of Remion where the retreating troops were hiding. In one day, the front line moves 60 km towards Sant Elia.

Port of Sant Elia

At the outbreak of hostilities on the border between Remion / Eugenia and the occupation forces, a few hours earlier, a regiment under the orders of the Collonello Maria of the Navy, was ordered to storm and conquer the port of San Elia. While the main part of the fleet with the two aircraft carriers was at a safe distance in the open sea, the strike group can count on the support of several Landing Ships units and a latest generation frigate within missile range, the operation began an hour before the first artillery round was fired on the eastern edge of the city.

While the first aircraft cleaned up any engageable targets with cirurgic accuracy, the first amphibious craft began appearing on the beaches surrounding the harbor area. Thanks to the new amphibious vehicles used for the first time in the conflict, and the speed of the action, the defense forces of the port were quickly pushed back towards the city. A new front line had been created and it was in Sant Elia.

The presence of land ships it was essential, the attacking forces were also able to hit some retreating tanks and destroy them thanks to the presence of several attack helicopters embarked on the ships. As the hours passed, the port was conquered without compromising its main functions.

Kispest

The once glorious capital of Pannonia had now been half turned into a devastated landscape. While the southern half of the city had been rapidly captured and the rebellious elements pushed back, the crossing of the river had proved problematic with the resistance having been prepared for yet another assault on the city. This had caused the imperial division to turn to more aggressive tactics, where they could not get across the bridges they levelled buildings with the main guns of the tanks from the other side, and deeper into the city missiles had pounded the positions of the enemy.

Northern Kispest was in complete ruin, the parliament was now just a skeleton of the building it had once been. The city however had fallen and in the few days since mopping operations had been carried out. The division would not remain however, it turned over control of the city to the Csengian military units that had assisted in the operation of taking the city, Maj. Gen. Yolkin would turn his division around and head to the south, he had some bigger fish to fry now that the war had actually kicked off and he wanted to take some glory and some blood.

Sankt Viet

The enemy had came from the Sea, the port had not been one of the highest priorities for the airborne forces occupying the city, as they came the initial resistance was light until reinforcements had started to arrive and put up a fight. The fighting was fierce as the elements of the 98th carried out a fighting withdrawal from the area of the port setting up in new positions along inside the city. If the enemy wanted the city they would have to take it by force, turning Sankt Viet into another destroyed city. If they wanted to bomb the imperial troops into submission, it would once more be at a cost to the city, how far the Republic was willing to push the desire to have this city would be the question.

Off in the Horizon as the end of the first days hostilities in daylight could be seen was the burning fires from Republican ships, Col. Heleteys' message for support from the navy must have gone thru, and they must have had more success than he could have dreamed of as the amount of smoke he could see from his command post was far greater than that from the fighting at the port had managed to create.

Airspace NFZ, areas occupied by Csengian soldiers.

On the day following that in which Remion accepted the offer of peace, the propaganda department put in place and created a leaflet to be thrown on the enemy lines containing a provocative exhortation to surrender and to end the belligerence.

Csengian!
Get to know the Remiones.
We fly over your heads, we could keep throwing bombs. We are only giving you a two-color greeting: the two colors of freedom.
We Remionesi do not make war on children, on the old, on women.
We wage war on your government, the enemy of national freedoms and peace, on your blind stubborn cruel government which does not know how to give you either peace or bread, and feeds you with hatred and illusions.

Csengian!
You are reputed to be intelligent. But why did you put on the Tarusa uniform? Now, you see, the whole world has turned against you.
Do you want to continue the war? Keep it up, it's your suicide. What are you hoping for? The decisive victory promised to you by the Tarusian generals? Their decisive victory is like Zaran men: dies behind barbed fields set up by soulless men.
PEOPLE AND SOLDIERS OF CSEGIAN, think of your loved ones. Wake up!
VIVA FREEDOM!
VIVA REMION!
VIVA EUGENIA!

Together with this leaflet, a second document was launched in which the momentary cease-fire was attributed to General Pista, as the only true leader inclined to peace. A peace that all the powers of the area with the exception of Tarusa had accepted.

General Eszes was on his field telephone speaking back with General Pista. ~...yes, the cease-fire is agreed upon, our diplomats and their diplomats have signed and shook on it. You are to order your men that the retreat to the agreed upon lines is to begin at 06:00. Prepare the men quickly...~

Eszes replied, "Yes, affirmative, sir. We will plan for prompt departure at exactly 06:00. I must as well ask, there are no reports from Tarusa, are we expected to be attacked in this movement? We have received leaflets from the enemy supposing their generosity."

~...No, such a penalty is only expected upon myself and my command. There are some strange things afoot, but I have to believe that we have achieved a lasting cease-fire... ...assume the Remiones will hold their end of the bargain...~"

Eszes sighed, "Yes, of course sir. Where can we expect rendezvous?"

~...We'll meet up at new border town of Tolna for resupply and some rest... ...your men have done a great service for this country, I believe the actions of your men allowed us to come to this favorable peace... dismissed...~

Eszes hung up the phone and shouted out the orders. "We're packing up! Leaving at 06:00, due north to Tolna. Someone please, inform our opposing general that in compliance with the ceasefire we'll be moving out and would appreciate if they held their positions until 09:00. Else we'll have to assume their movements are in hostility."

In efforts to avoid the endless bombing runs, the army of General Eszes was spread across a wide section of land, quite scattered. It could take ages for this command to reach everyone, and they only had 15 hours to move.

"Theyre doing what!?"

Boris Ukhov was yelling at his staff while also on the radio with Heletey as he found out of General Pistas orders to the Csengians holding the front line west of Sankt Viet.

"Someone get that asshole RIGHT NOW! Tell him the Csengians are to hold the line. We are not withdrawing from our positions inside of Sankt Viet at this time. I will in fact be moving the more of the division towards Sankt Viet under the cover of rendering assistance with the withdraw from the city. Myself and the rest of the division will be holding at the "border" region. He can make up whatever excuse he pleases for slowing the retreat, if he carries this out he is committing treason, as he abandons the people of Thalgau and the Csengians within the West Zaran area as this region has quite the mixed population, and spits on the grave of Horvath who had made a much more reasonable offer."

General Pista got off the phone with a very angry Tarusan and got on the phone with General Eszes again. "Eszes, I just finished a call with some very very angry Tarusans. They want us to hold our ground so that they can maintain control of this shit city, and be able to take back Thalgau. I'll tell you, fuck Sankt Viet, fuck Thalgau. Both those Kraut shit holes can fuck themselves. I told them we'd do as he asked, we'd slow down our pace. We're still going to meet in Tolna though. You tell your men we're slowing down because we're waiting for a missing unit to catch up. Otherwise, you do not shoot at anything. I don't care if it's the devil himself, your men are not to fire at anything."

Eszes replied swiftly, "yes, sir. What if we encounter Tarusans?"

Pista replied, "Make some shit up, you are to tell them you have orders to rendezvous up north, and sweep south in a flanking maneuver. Whatever you do, you are to respect this treaty."

Eszes, agreed and the conversation ended. They'd slow the pace, but now everything was firmly in his hands. They were nearly half way to their next checkpoint. He didn't particularly like the situation on the ground. He didn't know what government he was actually reporting to. He wasn't in on the military junta decisions, but it seemed to him, peace for now would be a good thing. Maybe things would have been different if he had some damned air support.

It was at this moment a man speeding towards him on a motorcycle stopped. He was given a letter from the capital from a Queen?

Under the guise of darkness the detachment prepared for their assault, they were preparing to drive the enemy back into the sea, or make them prisoners. As the time drew closer to 3 am the first sounds of mortars could be heard beginning the shelling of the enemy positions on the docks followed by the sound of squad heavy machineguns as the assault began. The fighting would last several hours into the early morning hours before silence would once again reign on the city as the attack was repelled and Heletey began the provision for his forces fighting retreat out of the city. As the battle had progressed and not in a positive way on the land there was at least two other parts of the operation that seemed to go successfully.

Heletey had noticed that even with his forces engaged in combat the lack of bombs on his forces for the last couple of hours and had actually seen what appeared to be a republican jet come crashing somewhere outside of the city as the Imperial Air Force had finally been brought into the fight to contest the air. He had not seen any Imperial jets in the sky, so the assumption was they were staying out of engagement range for enemy anti-air as they moved closer to the city.

With the enemy closing in on the city, and signs the Csengians were not gonna stand ground and fight outside the city boundaries his orders upon successfully or failing to push the enemy into the city was a withdrawal towards the north to meet up with the remainder of the division to regroup.

Off the shores of Sankt Viet the Imperial Navy struck once again, this time two submarines had slipped into range of the remaining vessels of the republican attack force. Lady luck had been on their side, each sub managed to release several torpedoes into the water and it was not very long after they could hear the sounds, the explosions, the sound of water rushing into the hulls of the two enemy ships. As the two submarines began making their way back across the depths of the sea towards the waters of Csengia they were being hunted by the main republican fleet. Several close calls ensued for some time as some explosions managed to rattle the crews and the equipment aboard the subs causing slight fears that this would be their final mission.

Yet again lady luck reigned in for them as after some time the hunt was given up and they could resume their treck back towards safer waters. While underway they would repair the minor damage to some systems and equipment from the close calls, they had managed to carry out. The conflict was being lost on land, but won at sea.

Csengian/Eugenian Former Border

Word had now reached the 98th Airborne Division of the signing of the ceasefire and the new demarcation lines to be established. They had fought for Sankt Viet and been forced into a retreat, now they would get to re-enter the city and take possession of it. General Pista would head the column of his division as it would make its way back towards the city, the fighting and the conflict had not been in vain for the Empire. They had successfully negotiated for what had been the goal from the politicians back home, the city of Sankt Viet, and a new ally in the Csengian Kingdom. This conflict had cemented the Tarusan Empire in central Europe for the foreseeable future.

The 98th would take over security of the city when they reached it. Orders were already coming down that soon enough they would be relieved by the 35th Combined Arms Army once the personnel and headquarters were to arrive in Csengia and they would get to go home. Pista and his men had not been home for over a year between their deployment in Thrakia and the conflict in Csengia, and home sounded nice.

The war was over for now, and a new day was coming. The operations in the country would now switch from a footing of war to rebuilding the nation, the cities, and the military. Csengia would be molded into a mini-Tarusa, until the time was right to reclaim the entirety of the Zaran provinces.......

Starting a war and then sabotaging it was too tricky, but creating chaos and unrest could also bring his cause forward. And showing some loyalty with the Tarusan Emperor couldn't harm, either.

It was a large operation. Much forework had already been done. Throughout the years, his organisation had gathered information to blackmail politicians. A lot of information. That came in handy when this emergency session of the Reichsparlament came in.
Luckily, the sociodemocrats were too naive to see what was happening. That meant about 170 seats less to bother about. But that was not enough to tip the balance. More people had to be "convinced". He had blackmail material of fifty parliament members, but that was still not enough. So he ordered the kidnapping of spouses and children of parliament members. That was a large operation, but a successful one. Two kidnappings failed, but 21 succeeded. And one of those 21 was a special one: The Chancellor's wife and children. Unfortunately, the Chancellor's eldest son was away, but the wife and two younger children were enough. The Chancellor's family was well-guarded, but it appeared to be possible to outtrick the guards. So the Chancellor's wife and two of his children landed in his power.

And then the Chancellor continued his efforts to make Eiffelland join the war. But failed. The plan had worked. But of course the Chancellor had to be punished. He himself would live, but he would lose wife and children. "Herr Kanzler Rheinfeld, maybe you are not sensitive to Vrijpoorter money, but you will do what I, your rightful King, tell you to do," Segimer Graf von Heidemar-Siegen thought.
