The overall philosophy behind this redesign, is twofold:

Firstly, to take what has been done and refine it, balancing simplicity and minimizing subforums with detail, ensuring each section is distinct and has a clear purpose that both new players, old players, and everyone in between can easily understand and enjoy. Having four subforums for each forum (for the most part) allows for symmetry and, in my opinion, achieves that balance.

Secondly, to have a descending, almost linear path for people to follow, where we start with rules and the map, lore via encyclopedias and indexes of information, followed by lighter RP in the form of news and business threads and sports events, with the more detailed RP of diplomacy, character storylines, and international incidents at the bottom. Each theme can lead to the other, and possesses names that are easy to understand.

In Welcome to Our World, we have where everyone should begin: the Guidelines & Discussion to introduce ourselves, announce absences, view forum-wide announcements, and read the rules and guides on how to play. Then we've got the Map Room, where folk can see the map, apply as new nations or make any changes, etc. Then Community Parliament, where players can, after discussion of potential community-initiated changes, propose said changes to vote on (which is where this whole project will progress if all goes well). Lastly, Talking Point, which is where everything not forum-oriented is discussed, usually IRL stuff.

In Worldbuilding Corner, we start with National Encyclopedias, where players can create and update their wiki threads with all the information the community needs to understand the nation they are playing. Next, Project Coordination & Feedback. Essentially, this is where players can solicit feedback on their RP, and if they're still creating their nation, secondary nation, or important aspects of their nation, solicit thoughts from the rest of the forum. Then there's Shared Lore & Development, which takes from both the Shared Lore, Institutions, and Organizations subforum and the recently passed Development & Feedback subforum and essentially dedicates itself to lorebuilding, be it on a bilateral, regional, or global scale. Lastly, Indexes & Lists, which function as it does now.

From there, we move to Press Pool & Events, with National Media functioning as it does, same with International & Social Media, to continue distinguishing the different types of reporting, etc. Then, World Business & Economics, where storefronts and chambers of commerce can be posted, and business deals can be done. Lastly, Sports & Culture, where our cultural events like football, comic conventions, the Olympics, cultural gatherings, and so on can happen.

Finally, we have Foreign Affairs & World Narratives, where we start with Embassy Row, which functions as it presently does in the realm of diplomatic communiques between nations' various foreign ministries. After that is Conferences & Treaties, dedicated to more character-driven diplomatic RP like peace conferences, summits, alliance creation, etc., and the crafting of treaties that eventually result. From there, we have Storyteller's Corner, which is a renamed The Stage that focuses on character and internal RP, and Incident Room, which is a renamed The Arena focusing on multinational RP, including but not limited to war and conflict.

The rest of the subforums in Borders Beyond and The Graveyard remain otherwise unchanged.

, as a helpful reminder to everyone:

"For both types of votes, for now a quorum of 10 users and 60% of voters in favor of the motion within one week have to be reached, though these criteria can be modified if we feel they don’t work. Voting is done via post - Aye or Nay (or Abstain). Certain topics are out of scope - for example, a vote won’t make it acceptable to post racist things or matters of harassment, and unfortunately it can’t overturn copyright-related matters either. But beyond these few cases, nothing should truly be out of scope for votes."

Votes (as of Sept. 26th, Deadline Sept. 26th):

  • Ayes (12): Josepania, Ranrike, Kamigakari, Sylvania, Nandao, Azilia, Petits-Pays, Kougi, YUANGUO, Nanuka, Swart Baai, Istavania;
  • Nays (0): N/A;
QUORUM ACHIEVED, VOTING CLOSED, MOTION PASSED.
