Scangermania Express is an international long-distance train alliance operating non-high-speed trains connecting various Scandinavian and Germanian cities to one another. A Scangermania Express train must meet certain criteria. The alliance is headquartered in Hilversum, Batavië, where administration offices are located as well as the main control centre, which oversees all trains operating and travelling on the network. Communication between Scangermania Express Train Systems Alliance (SETSA) and the national railway operators is crucial and therefore SETSA maintains and uses direct automated and manual computer and telephone lines with the national rail operators. Travellers may book journeys on a Scangermania Express train either through the national railway operator or from a SETSA Travel Centre, located in most major train stations, or online at
Criteria

. SETSA Travel Centres are staffed with service personnel who speak the local vernacular as well as German.Criteria
- train through two or more countries
- all cars air-conditioned and heated
- stop only at major cities
- stops for no more than five minutes, in special cases (very large cities) up to 15 minutes
- food and beverages available on-board (preferably from a dining car)
- conductors speak at least two languages, one of which must be German
- average speed (including stops) above 100 km/h, exceptions for mountainous terrain and train ferries
- daytime journey (start after 06.00, arrival earlier than midnight) or if night time journey equipped with sleeping carriage option
