Esteemed counterparts,

It is with great regret that we heard the news of the withdrawal of all Eiffello-Retalian companies from the All-Union Special Economic Zones. More so because we had to inform ourselves about it through Etruscan media instead of at least being given the courtesy of an official notice. Though the latter might seem fitting within this economic declaration of war by the ODS against all member-states of the Rurikgrad Pact we were expecting that after over 60 years of prosperous economic co-operation we would have at least seen these occurrences transpire with the conduct of gentlemen. Furthermore we regret that this decision was made unilaterally and without any sense of diplomatic responsibility. Should you have approached us with your grievances we would've gone through extensive concessions in order to accommodate them and potentially prevent this withdrawal. The significant leverage you had through your long-standing investment in the SEZs, but also as one of our larger energy exports you have carelessly thrown out of the window in exchange for conflict. This while the cause of this economic warfare was merely the consolidation of a nation that was already firmly under the influence of the East as accepted by both your nation and mine in the Pax Germanica. Not to mention that the popular regime change in Crotobaltislavonia ousted a regime that served as the distribution point of deadly narcotics throughout our shared region and saved the lives of thousands of Yiddish people facing extermination. Nonetheless this communiqué does not have the intention to victimize ourselfs. We will digest and react appropriately as we always have.

The fact that these companies are now forced by their government to withdraw from a highly lucrative and long-standing business opportunity will no doubt cost you trillions of euromarks and countless hours of sleep in the near future. The cost of this shutdown, the end of stable financial flows and the inevitable claims for compensations by the aforementioned companies for the loss of projected profits for years to come may even punish yourself more than it does us. That is, however, an internal matter that is yours to handle. What concerns us is the compensation for the loss on our end. We are both aware that no other nation in the immediate region can supply and meet your economical demands for raw resources, including, but not limited to natural gas and oil. Certainly not with the transport and cost efficiency that the All-Union has graciously offered during the past decades. Even when it does find a new supplier it will be yourself and your administration that has to explain to the average Eiffeloretalian worker, and due to economic proximity the average ODS worker, why his monthly energy bill is increased by 50 euromarks, why it costs more to fill up the fuel tank of their Dalmer or in some cases even why his company had to put them all on the streets. Again that is an internal matter, but for your sake I hope you find a better explanation than 'Crotobaltislavonia'. While no other nation will be able to compete with our prices due to sheer proximity and established infrastructure we have no doubt that you will find a new supplier eventually.

Until that time we wish to inform you that all previously established economic privileges and incentives concerning both import and export from the All-Union market have hereby been revoked. We also announce that along with the dropping of all economic privileges we will seek to compensate for the wilfully done damage by increasing the tariffs and taxes of all such exports by 165% until the time where all trade ends completely. Imports of cars, luxury products and consumer goods will cease immediatly with only ongoing transactions being concluded honouring our past agreements. This is, from our perspective, an appropriate response to the actions taken by your nation and the ODS. At least you didn't have to hear it from some foreign news agency.

Signed,

We regret that the communication about this matter was handled in such a clumsy way from our side. Please accept our apologies. Currently a lot is going on inside the government, not only due to the decision to withdraw from the All Union SEZ, but also due to national elections. Therefore, a proper communication to you fell through. Again, apologies for that.

The problem is, that the ODS interprets the recent regime change in Crotobaltislavonia in a different way than you do. Apart from the fact that Crotobaltislavonia is/was an important hub for drug traficking, we saw that the previous government was turning Crotobaltislavonia into a communication hub between the Rurikgrad Pact and the liberal-democratic world. We saw that development cut short.

But let's turn the situation a bit differently. Suppose that Etruria abolishes the monarchy and adopts elements of Grasserism, and that Eiffelland-Retalia then invades Etruria to restore the old system. I don't think that the Rurikgrad Pact would have taken that lightly.

Furthermore, Crotobaltislavonia never showed the intention to break away from the Rurikgrad Pact; it only sought cooperation with Etruria and the Northern Tiburan Empire. There was no reason for you to intervene militarily. A bit of dialogue from your side would also have worked to take your grievances about the former Crotobaltislavonian government's course away.

Best regards,

Gianluigi di Gravesano-Carone, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Extraordinary Ambassador of the Italophone minority in Eiffelland-Retalia

OOC: From my side, it is this @#)(&#$*&)($*^&@)(*%&@#_*&%)(*&@% project at work that strongly limits my spare time. Therefore, I didn't write a news post :icon_confused: :icon_confused: :icon_confused: :icon_confused:
