"Hello, I am your host Maja Larsson with SPHStv. You are reading a transcript of yesterday's interview with Fernando Guzman AGE's SecGen Pro Temp. with me on SPHStv's Meet Europe segment. SPHStv, Europe's view into the World's Events.
Maja: "Welcome Mr. Guzman, how have you been as Secretary General of AGE for the past few days?"
Fernando: "Good Morning, Maja. The past few days have been very busy for me, but I have enjoyed every aspect of the position so far. I am thankful to my colleagues for giving me this chance."
Maja: "This chance was created by the departure of Austurland from AGE, can you shed any light on why they decided to leave the alliance after being a founding member?"Fernando:"First of all, I would like to say that AGE was honored to have the Archduchy as a founding member and we regret their decision to withdraw. The reasons behind their withdraw has been stated by Prime Minister Nikolay Raev when the announcement was made public, those reasons being lack of participation and activity. But let me clarify that making a democratic alliance run takes time to get members into agreement and all member states must have patience with the procedures of the alliance."
Maja: "Interesting, so rumored reports of infighting after the strange way in which Mr. Ortendahl received the previous Secretary General term would be false?"Fernando: "Yes, these rumors are false. Any problems with Mr. Ortendahl's term was solved within days of his appointment. In no way was the Alliance in danger of infighting between the member states."
Maja: "That said, do you see a lack of participation and activity as threatening to the alliance? If so, do you have plans to change this?"Fernando: "As I said earlier, the member states must have patience with the way the Alliance works. That being said, I do want to make the Alliance work more efficiently and quickly so that we can have a response to any challenge that comes our way."
Maja: "Speaking of challenges, with Samartia seeming to declare the upstart EDF as the new power in this world, do you feel this is true and that the politics of old between Oikawa and the Levantine States have come to an end?"Fernando: "Not at all. I think the Levantine States and Oikawa will continue to play a major role in international affairs. However, the rise of Samartia and the European Defense Federation has been impressive, and what exactly this rise will do to the relationship between the superpowers, I don't know."
Maja: "Will AGE tolerate war should these powers comes to that, much like many feel they will?"Fernando: "We hope that war can be avoided as it will only bring destruction to thousands if not millions of civilians. If war does occur, we will be prepare to defend our members, and involvement will have to be discussed between the member states."
Maja: "One can never go wrong with peace and hopefully you can help Europe avoid it. If you don't mind me asking you about yourself, what kind of experience do you feel helps or qualifies you for this position?"Fernando: "I have been part of Frescania's diplomatic corp for 30 years now, having served first as adviser to Frescania's ambassador in Oikawa during late 80s, later on in the early 90s I was part of Frescania's mission to the CoN; later I was adviser to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, and at last I was ambassador to the Levantine States from 2004-2007 and Franken before I was sent to AGE."
Maja: "Not much of a family life living so far away from home is there?"Fernando: "That's one of the problems with being part of the diplomatic corp. Prior to being ambassador to the Levantine States and Franken, I would visit every week if I could, but of course that was not always the case. Once I got the position of ambassador, I was capable of bringing my family, which gave my kids a time to experience other cultures. Since serving in AGE, we have moved to Françoiville, but we go every two weeks or so."
Maja: "An interesting look into a diplomats life. Lastly about your new job, do you have anything else that you would want to focus on during your time as Secretary General?"Fernando: "My main priority is to make the Alliance more efficient and quick in responding to international challenges. Anything else can be included once we have the system working much faster. If this is done correctly, then I believe AGE can become a stronger voice in the international arena"
Maja: "Well Mr. Guzman, I'd like to thank you for your time, it is true service to our world when leaders speak to the public like this. Is there anything else you'd like to add?"Fernando: "Nope, but I do want to thank you and SPHS-tv for giving me this opportunity to talk about AGE."
