THIERS DEFEATS GRENIER!
Stunning upset leads to NPP gains across the board
Grenier: "Humbled by this loss, honored to have served the people"
Thiers: "A new dawn for our nation awaits, let us move forward together"

ROSTOCK, PORTELANIA - The National Electoral Commission has officially certified Senator Joseph Thiers of Rostock as the new President of Portelania, defeating incumbent President Jean Grenier of the United Left Alliance with 50% of the vote to Grenier's 42%. The election campaign was marred by vicious attacks between the candidates that trickled down ballot to gubernatorial races and congressional races. At stake - the legacy of the United Left Alliance, holding the Presidency for the last 24 years and a healthy congressional majority for the last 32 years. The United Left Alliance saw its support erode quickly with a string of corruption scandals with several government ministers and officials, which has led to a Ministry of Justice investigation into President's Grenier involvement in the corruption scandal. Added to this was the strong unpopularity of the new tax policy passed by the ULA majority early in President Grenier's term - income taxes, payroll taxes, corporate taxes, sales taxes and excise taxes were all raised substantially to cover a staggering 2 billion dollar deficit and provide funding to one of the ULA's most unpopular policies - the Parenting License and Enforcement Act.

In his victory speech, Senator Thiers thanked Grenier for a well fought race and vowed to improve public education, health, security, balance the budget and lower taxes, as well as a full repeal of the new parenting license policy. "A new dawn for our nation awaits, let us move forward together as one people," said the Senator to cheering crowds at the Grand Hotel in Rostock. "I'm optimistic about the future because with the National People's Party leading the country, Portelania will recover its path of growth and well-being for all. And that will benefit all of the citizens," he said.

NPP MAJORITY REPEALS PARENTING LICENSE ACT
Much dreaded legislation repealed completely by the new NPP majority, tax reform next

ROSTOCK, PORTELANIA
- As part of the first 100 days of the Thiers Administration, the Federal Congress has sent legislation for the President to sign that repeals the ULA's Parenting License and Enforcement Act. The PLE Act was one of the cornerstone policies of the Grenier Administration, designed to control the population growth of the country and ensure that prospective parents received government sponsored or subsidized training to be good parents. The program also created several parental support programs and tax credits for new families. The PRE Acy came to be very unpopular as it established the Birth Tax, which applied a government tax on all hospitals, as well as medical procedures and equipment used for child birth. The Act also required that all prospective parents pay the government a hefty fee to acquire a Parenting License, allowing the parents to procreate. Fees would be paid per birth.

The measure quickly drew the ire of religious organizations, human rights organizations and the National People's Party, which made a full repeal of the act a top priority during its campaign. The repeal of the PLE Act passed the National Assembly with 181 votes in support of the repeal to 74 votes. The repeal passed the Senate with 19 votes in support, 13 against.

"It's our first promise kept," says President Thiers. "Our nation is moving forward together, and we will keep fighting to repeal the onerous laws and regulations that the ULA has forced on Portelania."
