Royal Gallery Opens
Merteuil

The Queen held a star-studded reception this evening, officially opening The Queen's Gallery in Merteuil.

Costing more than 125 million Coeur, paid for by the SGC, the gallery will house the extensive collection of the Royal Family. Many of their paintings and sculptures are priceless, accumulated over the course of three centuries. But the gallery opened with an exhibition of contempary artist André-Lucien Pothnos, renowned for his abstract work in the 1930s and 40s.

"This is a great occasion for the people, the Nation and, if I may say, the world, to celebrate the achievements of artists yesterday, today and tomorrow," Queen Henrietta Maria said as she addressed the crowd of politicians and figures from the art & culture scene.

The gallery will be opened to the public beginning this Friday.

Cabinet Reshuffling Announced
Merteuil

The Prime Minister has reshuffled some positions in the Cabinet, as it was confirmed this morning.

Count Maximillien Cöez du Barche has appointed the Controller-General of Finances as Leader of the Chamber of Deputies. Mssr. Victor Guyon will be responsible for leading the Government's business in the lower house as the prime minister sits in the Chamber of Peers. Meanwhile, the post of Lord President of the Council, in addition to the offices of Keeper of the Great Royal Seal and Royal Privy Seal, will be merged with the premiership. While the posts do not come with active political power, it says much about the new prime minister's style of leadership.

"The last [Prime Minister] to take charge of the Council and hold the Royal Seals was Cardinal de Belvois in 1697," said Dr. Roland Ypres, a professor of political science at the University of Sainte-Elisabeth. "Effectively the first Cœurlois PM, he was responsible for centralizing the government at Court. This could only be an example of how the current PM wants to manage his ministry: keeping everyone in line."

Traditionally, the posts have always been separate, though there have been times since Belvois maintained them. In 1833, the Duc-Pair de Montbaizon, at the age of 73, held the posts for three months before he died of natural causes.

In his new role as Leader, Mssr. Guyon is expected to introduce this morning The National Health Scheme, a proposal to offer low-cost access to medical offices and hospitals.

Queen's Accession Anniversary
Merteuil

Tomorrow will mark one year since the accession of Queen Henrietta Maria.

Tomorrow, the now 18-year-old Monarch will celebrate her accession to the throne with a parade through the capital, which will culminate with a Mass held at Sainte-Elisabeth's Cathedral. On Friday, the Queen will make a speech addressed before a joint session of Parlement, followed by a garden party for children at the palace.

Diplomats, politicians, and foreign royals will be attending this week's festivities. Among them is Prince Philippe of Tiburtina, who is believed to be courting the young Queen.

Priceless Art, Jewels Stolen!
Merteuil

The Times of Biarritz confirmed the residence The Dowager Baroness de Beauregard was burglarized Wednesday morning.*

No one was hurt at the time of the incident. The Dowager Baroness, 85, is currently vacationing in Camden with her extended family.*

The theft includes twelve rare paintings by Father Yves du Thiers, a 16th century priest who later became one of the famous artists of the Late Renaissance, as well as The Guillart Tiara. Worn on the Dowager's wedding day, it features priceless stones bought by her father. After the royal regalia, the tiara is considered one of the most valuable jewels in the Nation.*

Born Félicité-Marie Guillart, she was born in Montepesan to André Guillart. The Guillart patriarch earned his wealth as a land speculator. Félicité-Marie married into one of the oldest Cœurlois families, bringing to the impoverished Beauregard family an immense dowry.*

The Royal Gendarmerie has not released any additional information. At this time there are no suspects are currently*

IT IS HEREBY DECREED BY

THE COMMONWEALTH OF CAMDEN
20 August 1954
REGARDS from the CAMDENITE FOLK AND GOVERNMENT

The government of Camden feels morally guilty for the problems of the Dowager Baroness because if she wouldn't have been in Camden, no such thing would have happened. Sadly, such infinitely valuable treasures are lost now. For this, the Government of Camden is ready to help the Coeurlois Gendarmerie in their investigation, being ready to send to the Kingdom their own investigators, from the Southern Cross Guards, to join the Coeurlois and to help end this theft that can easily qualify as the theft of the century.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, His Honorable Jon Eaton is ready to cooperate with the Kingdom of Coeurleon and to help them organize the security of their treasures and also to join their investigation to find the lost treasures.

To The Honorable Bradley Ross:

I have been instructed personally by Her Majesty Queen Henrietta Maria to send forward and express her sincere thanks to the Commonwealth's offer of assistance in this matter. At this time, however, this investigation is still an internal matter. As the investigation continues, let me assure you that I will be in constant contact with Your Honorable's office, the Dowager Baroness, as well as her family.

With Sincere Thanks,
Mssr. Coulaincourt

Dowager's Jewels Found
Merteuil

The Royal Gendarmerie confirmed arrests were made in the theft of priceless art and jewels owned by the Dowager Baroness de Beauregard.

The arrests took place this morning and afternoon.

Among the accomplices named is 23-year-old Mathieu de Beauregard, one of the dowager's great-grandson. He was arrested while boarding a private plane in the northeastern city of Espeyrac.

Mathieu de Beauregard is the son of the dowager's third grandson, Jean-Paule, who currently represents the Salonge arrondisement in the Chamber of Deputies. Jean-Paule is set to inherit 1/25th of the dowager's 400m-ecu fortune. Ironically, the plane Mssr. de Beauregard was planning to use was registered to the Dowager Baroness.

"[Madame la Baronesse] mentioned she had not called for any of her plans within the past week. But the Royal Aviation Authority confirmed her plane crossed into national territory two night before," Chief Inspector Alexandre Fiscquieu reported this afternoon. "We continued our investigation from there. We were quite surprised that the young man in question was so willing to accept his fault."

A spokesman for Jean-Paule de Beauregard said this was a family matter, and will be dealt with privately.

National Health Services Approved!
Merteuil

The scheme to offer low-cost – and free – access to medical offices, hospitals and services was granted consent by The Queen this afternoon.

The National Health Services Act of 1954 was passed by an overwhelming majority in the Upper House last Thursday. This was the first bill to gain broad support from members of both Government and Opposition parties. The scheme also received support from socialist Populaires.

It did not receive any support in either Chamber by the ultra-conservative Royaliste party.

The Prime Minister has already announced the Secretary for Education, Mme. Hortense Noyer, will become the first Health Secretary. However, the chief public health officer will be Dr. Georges Leredu. Currently Head of the Queen’s Medical Household, he will become the new Surgeon-General. He will take his position on the first of December.

“He is entrusted with the health and well-being of the First Lady of the Land,” the Prime Minister stated in the Chamber of Peers this evening. “I can assure this Chamber that Dr. Leredu can equally be entrusted with the health and well-being of the Nation.”

Cœurlois Jew is Ennobled!
Merteuil

Benoit Strauss, a leader of the Jewish community in Merteuil, was ennobled this morning by The Queen at the Palais de Sainte-Élisabeth. Now known as Count de Rothesmont, he becomes the first Jew in the Nation to be ennobled.

Strauss is the great-grandson of Eduard Strauss, founder of the family bank, who helped finance the national railway system in the mid-19th century. Since then, the family bank has entered into chemical, mining, and architectural operations.

Despite fervent anti-Semitism throughout the 19th century, and increasingly during the Disannde era, the Strauss family were able to act as a voice for Cœurlois Jews. The Count himself personally intervened when Disannde's government proposed their expulsion from the country, helped end hostilities between Jews and Christians in the capital's notorious 12th arrondissement, and personally financed the renovation of the Mertueil Grand Synagogue. His brother, Jacob, is currently Chief Rabbi of Cœurléon.

The Count has announced he will not take a seat in the Chamber of Peers.

Protests in Curlania!
What was a small peaceful protest on a university campus has grown into near outright rebellion!
Merteuil

A leading delegation has been sent to Merteuil as protests in the Autonomous Community continue to mount.

Students at the University of Le Yon called for major educational and social reforms by the Autonomous Government over the weekend. On Sunday evening, the regional police force - the Constabulary - was called in to suppress the otherwise peaceful demonstration. Many have seen this as the President's abuse of authority. More than a dozen protests have taken place throughout the region. Meanwhile, the Autonomous Government has made no comment. However, more than three dozen students and youths have been arrested.

While no state of emergency has been declared, national press have received word the order may come within days, if not hours.

The Statute of Autonomy, enacted under the Disannde era, re-established some form of independence from Merteuil. Pledged by King Louis X to uphold the statute under the Restoration, a clause does exist that allows Merteuil to intervene and suspend the regional government 'under dire duress.'

It is believed the delegation will meet with the Prime Minister to discuss current issues and reforms. The delegation is led by the Queen's uncle the Duke-Peer de Cornouaille, seen as one of the most prominent voices for the Curlan community and a leading politician in the regional Assembly.

The Secretary for Curlania, Luis d'Albes, is expected to make a statement before the Chamber of Deputies on Friday morning.

Queen to make Christmas Address
The Monarch is set to make an address on the radio wireless on Christmas morning.
Merteuil

Initiated in the reign of her grandfather, The Queen will make the annual Christmastide Speech from the Chateau d’Espeyrac. She did not deliver a message last year due to an illness.

The speech, not written by the government of the day, is one of the few opportunities the monarch is allowed to share her societal views. However, it is very unlikely the queen will make such notions. As done in the reign of her grandfather, Henrietta Maria will call for peace and charity during the holiday season.

There was much fanfare as the 18-year-old monarch departed from the capital this morning. In addition to bidding farewell to the Lord Mayor, his wife, and leading officials of Merteuil, Her Majesty received eighteen petitions from poor children and single mothers and gave them each a bag of alms or Queen's Gold before her departure on the Royal Train.

The young monarch, along with the royal family, will spend the next few weeks in the southeast village of Espeyrac. However, her stay may be cut short as rumors speculate of snap elections.

Curlania to become Region
As of today, Curlania will become the 24th Region of Coeurleon, after the Curlan Assembly unanimously approved the proposal.
Merteuil

A joint leadership between conservatives and liberals in the legislature brought the vote to the floor Friday morning. The President of the Autonomous Community resigned hours before.

The vote came after a month of civil unrest in the region. Under the terms, Curlania's autonomous agencies will remain intact, with the cabinet-level Secretary to become its first Governor. Despite its infancy, the position is said to be ranked as among the most powerful positions in government.

"[The Governor], as executive of the region's health, education and police forces, will be the most powerful position in terms of regional governance," said Beatrice-Marie Curie, professor of politics at the University of Cornouaille. "The new office will also be responsible for the regional bank [of Curlania], which operates its own commercial services in addition to servicing the regional government."

Under terms of the Statute of Autonomy, the vote did not require a popular vote.

Controller-General to Become PM!
With overwhelming support of the Conservatives, the treasury minister will become the third Prime Minister in a year.
Merteuil

Mssr. Victor Guyon traveled to Palais de Sainte-Elisabeth this evening, where he kissed hands with The Queen.

Conservative Deputies revolted against the leadership of Count Coez du Barche on Monday morning, blocking a proposal to sell licenses to foreign competitors. Both backbenchers and frontbenchers voiced opposition, with many calling for a Vote of No Confidence. Unable to maintain support in the lower house would mean the inevitable collapse of the government. The Count tendered his resignation hours before the Controller-General.

“I am pleased to announce that I have Her Majesty’s confidence in forming a government in her name,” Guyon told the press after arriving at Hôtel de Loncret. His first task would be to select a new Cabinet, though he has made hints at maintaining some Cabinet members.

Curlan Public Works Program Approved
Government's multi-billion Coeur program set to begin in Curlania.
Merteuil

The Queen, Prime Minister, Governor of Curlania and business leaders assembled in Cornouaille, where Her Majesty gave her blessing to the new program.

A year after the Curlania became a Region, this is the first major program to take place.

Shortly after his quick transition from Secretary of State for Curlania to its Governor, Luïs d'Albens led a mass coalition of Curlan businessmen and politicians to negotiate with the Government late last year. With a price tag of 3.2 billion Coeur, the program aims to improve general infrastructure and public buildings, as well as improve the standard of living for millions of Curlans. An overwhelming majority of 3 million Curlans live in poverty, with more than half earning less than five Coeurs a day.

"We are pleased Her Majesty's Government has taken a serious interest in the matters of the Curlan people," d'Albens, a native Curlan, told the press. "On behalf of all the Curlans, we thank Queen Henrietta Maria and her ministers for uplifting so many toward a brighter future." The Queen, whose mother hails from an ancient Curlan family, was also an active participant in the negotiations. Though no one has said how much she was involved, government sources and courtiers have confirmed the young monarch was kept abreast of the issue and did, according to one senior courtier, "write instructions to the prime minister and the Treasury on this important matter."

Funds will also be set aside for the arts, schools, and hospitals. An apprenticeship program between businesses and secondary school pupils will be established next year.
